Not a bad roof top bar.  Pricewise, it's in line what you'll find you pay at most other hotel bars, running in the $9 range for a mixed drink.  I did appreciate the heavy handed pours on blustery, rainy San Diego evening.  Not only did that bourbon warm me up, but there seemed to be just enough heat lamps near the seating that if you're sitting down, you will be pretty comfy.

The views out to Coronado Island and Petco Park below are pretty outstanding.  Hell, you can even watch a baseball game from up here if you can snag a spot on the corner facing the stadium before someone else does.

I've never been to Altitude on a Friday or Saturday night, but I've been more Sundays than I can count.  This place rules on a sunny day before, during or after a Padres game with the all-day happy hour on Sundays.
Most of the time the DJs spin old school hiphop and the waitresses make frequent rounds to keep your drinks flowing.    Skyy is their well vodka... it is ~$6/drink and brews are also reasonably priced.
The views alone here are spectacular, and the fact that it is not pretentious in any way makes this one of our favorite go-to spots downtown.

This is an amazing rooftop lounge and believe I have tried a lot, especially where they are popular on the East Coast... The view is breathtaking, especially if there is a baseball game at night. You can literally see the game from the bar, how cool! There is no cover and if I like me you stay at the hotel, you can skip all the line during the week end nights. Prices are very OK for this upscale place they have great deal for HH from 5-7pm.

The crowd is kind of hit or miss. You have few underdressed tourists sometimes or baseball fans who isn't really what I am looking for but most of the time you should see young and hot people. Music is pretty good as a background during the week and I haven't had a chance to come on week ends to check it out. If the weather is cooperative, it is a great stop to hang out on the rooftop. Decor is very cool with nice seatings, bar and fire pit. Whether you have a date, want to grab a first drink, HH during week day nights, impress a friend watching a Padres games or any other occasions, I would definitely vouch for Altitude!

The view is amazing! It's on the rooftop of Marriott with a view of downtown, the bay, Petco Park, Coronado Island & the bridge, and Point Loma.

It's a lounge area, very classy, cute decor... Happy hour drinks (til 7pm) was awesome before a baseball game! You can predrink here and enjoy the view. You can also just sit up here and watch the whole game if you wanted to.

Only complaint: The crowd wasn't exactly young and hip. Think the opposite of that.

Rooftop lounge with excellent views, especially of Petco Park.  There's NO Cover, but unfortunately that means long lines to ride the elevator to the top.  On a Saturday, it's a safer bet to get there by at least 9:30pm if you don't want to wait in line for an hour.

The fire pit with sofa seats is nice, but I like to sit on the tall stools facing out towards the marina.  The views are amazing!  I also love that while the music is bumping, I can still talk to people without yelling over the noise.  This is definitely a great place to lounge and meet people.  Sometimes, the music will even get people up and dancing.

The bartenders are great, and have always gotten my drinks out quickly.  They have one huge main bar on one side, and a small bar underneath the DJ's box.

Whenever I'm in Gaslamp, I'll always try to make a visit to Altitude.

We were afraid that we were under dressed since we did not plan to go to any clubs or lounges in downtown.  However, we were thrilled to learn that any attire was possible. Of course we felt a little under dressed as we were surrounded by girls in high heels and boys in nice dress shirts (who probably decided to stop by after the clubs).

We waited 20 minutes for the 1 elevator that takes you up to the Altitude lounge. The view definitely breathtaking- overlooking Petco Park and the beautiful city lights.

Overall:  I'll definitely be back. Seems like a fun place to come watch for free a game at Petco Park, to watch the sun set, or to just hangout, relax, and get some drinks.

Fun place to hang out with fabulous view, easy going crowd. Catch a romantic sunset or after dark when DJ spins hip hop mixes. Try a specialty drink--love the pineapple martini. Bonus! No cover charge, but line after 10:30 to get in (unless you are a hotel guest with priority access). VIP area, firepit, best view in the Gaslamp.

WOW! Rooftop bar with a view! It's just too bad that the staff and security give you attitude. In fact, their security is borderline stupid. After the night (P. S. we spent $950 on your damn TABLE SERVICE) they told us to stand on the corner away from the hotel entrance to wait for taxies. Blow me, Marriott and Sky Lounge, I'm contacting CORPORATE!

I come here for the great view of Petco park and there's no cover charge.

It's always crowded, so the vibe is pretty fun and trendy. You get your luck with the crowd's age group though, it's definitely a big older - people in their late 20s and 30s.

Come early, because the line gets pretty long in the lobby on the weekend. I usually have to park a big far and walk to the Marriott. I haven't tried their downstairs' bar called Latitude, because it always seem so empty.

Not a bad little spot to grab some happy hour dranks after work and enjoy a view of SD.

I brought my homeslice from outta town here last week for HH. Too bad the weather was cold and foggy, otherwise I'm sure we'd have a most stellar view. Aside from the weather, the drink specials were average ($5 wells/beers). The rooftop space was supes chill.

On the other hand, the music was kinda terrible. When the Backstreet Boys came on (no joke), that was my cue to bounce.

I can see myself stopping in here a lot this summer.

Woo Altitude! The GF and I came here for a friend's goodbye party. What a great spot in downtown SD on a weekend night.

NO COVER. A very high selling point, I have to admit.
Also, the view IS very nice. Unfortunately, the night I went, Altitude was very crowded and I realized just how small the area is. It's not the most spacious lounge. However, it didn't matter much to us. We had tons of fun with our big group anyway.

Drinks were standard. Waitresses came around and took drink orders and got them to us promptly.

Altitude is an awesome date spot.

My friends Pelissa introduced me to this place after we had (that night) a positive experience at Nobu, it was July of 2008...  since then I have been back there probably 3 or 4 times...

For the view alone its worth going.  They've got the heated fire pit with some swanky chairs to sit in...  on a Summer night its a great spot to watch the sunset / Padres games....

One night we charged up a very large bar bill.  I was drinking vodka tonic with a splash of club soda, and my friend Pete was drinking strictly vodka tonics...  though every time I would go up to get a new round (if it were my turn) I would order 2 vodka tonics with splashes of club soda...  for simplicity for the bartender, and I figured my friend would not notice.

He noticed and gave me a light counsel, though it was very humorous.

Went on a Monday night which was perfect and not crowded. Wonderful view of SD and the ball park. Fire Pit was a nice touch in the cold evening. The drinks are definitely pricier than other lounges but that's what you get for the atmosphere and view.

Bouncers are chill and nice in bouncer standards. Actually greets you as you come and go.  A patron had too much and pretty much staggered around and the bouncers were really cool about escorting him out without causing a scene. Given you are 22 stories high. Wouldn't be appropriate tossing him over. ;\

I came here for my birthday with my girlfriends. Like everyone noted in the forum, incredible view. Cozy lounge chairs.

A star off for watered down cocktails. I don't mind Altitude charging more than that of the average Gaslamp bar - because of the view - but I really don't care for watered down drinks.

Another star off for the weird phone service to order food. The phones are by the door and the line was BUSY so I had to actually leave my party and loiter by the door awkwardly for 5 minutes. Finally one of the bouncers said he'd order for me so who knows how much longer it took for the kitchen to get my order? It seems like a needless complicated way to order food.

I came here this past Saturday night for one of my colleague's birthday. It's not too often I go out and party, especially downtown but this was one of those occasions where I didn't mind it as long as the birthday lady was having a good time.

This place is located on the rooftop of the Marriott, 22 floors up. We came here pretty early, about around 9:00. There was no cover charge which was a definite surprise for me, especially since this place has a classier, more upscale atmosphere. The view of Petco Park and the Coronado Bridge are phenominal. This is new territory for me as far as ever coming to a rooftop lounge and I am liking it so far.

The sky lounge itself is not big or small; the size is just right. There are some seats along with heating lamps for those chilly nights. There's also a fire pit with seats around it located in the center of the lounge. The drinks are slightly pricey but I don't mind it really since there was no cover. The music was a mashup of older songs from the 80s and 90s to the current popular songs of today.

I like how classy the crowd was. I'm not sure if there's a dress code; if so they don't seem to strictly enforce it ( I had on a polo shirt with some jeans and black and red Jordans). Regardless, many people were dressed to impress. Most of the people here were talkable and not stuck-up. A few tourists that are living in the hotel were here and very friendly as well.

With no cover charge, decent drinks, and an awesome view of Petco Park, this place definitely won me over. This is probably the only club/lounge that I see myself being at least a semi-regular, especially for a downtown location. The only downside is that there isn't much room for dancing, but this a good place to chill and even bring a date that you wanna impress.

The security staff was really nice here, actually. Not snobby at all for SoCal, but maybe cause we came on like a Sunday night when everyone has work the next day.

Cool venue, very colorful and if you know me, I'm entranced by colorful stuff like a kid. Working heat lamps, good music, nice, chill vibe hanging out and talking with our group of 10 or so. The drinks were normal drinks. Wonderful views, of course. I'd come back!

This is my favorite rooftop bar to go to!

No cover! Awesome, because you're getting a very upscale touch of downtown. As soon as you walk in there's a GIANT fire pit. Seats are usually taken :( But there's heaters above the seats that are immediately to the right, which leads to the bar as well.

The music is good, loud, and familiar. It's pretty easy to find a place to hang out. The bar is surprisingly easy to get to. If you are there on the one random night where it's hard to get a drink, stop one of the servers walking around to help you.

The view is awesome. If you're with someone who isn't from San Diego bring them here. You can look right into Petco Park. I've never tried to watch an actual game from here, but I'd like to soon.

Tip -- Sunday is all day and all night Happy Hour. Need I say more?

Tip -- If you're cold, they have blankets right next to the door.

Tip -- Before you get on the elevators to go to the bar look for any signs on room specials, ask the bouncer, front desk, or bartenders if there are any room specials as well. My boyfriend and I wanted to keep drinking one night, but knew one of us was going to eventually have to drive, and the bartender told us that rooms would be half off after midnight for anyone drinking in the bar. We went down and asked and they set us up with a room for a great price. So we went right back up to the bar and finished drinking!

It's also a great deal if you're with a group of people and don't want the fun night to end. The rooms go from $120-$180. Split that up and get a case of beer and some bottles before 2 am and you're all set.

I love rooftop lounges. There's something about the views, music, and open air that makes you feel like you're someplace else. Altitude Sky Lounge had all of the elements of a great lounge for the night that my boyfriend and I had planned in celebrating our anniversary.

    - No cover! (woot!)
    - The view is nice, but it's not breathtaking.
    - The one huge firepit they have has a great feel, but people were sleeping around it (classy).
    - The music was good, but barely anyone was dancing on a Saturday night.
    - The crowd wasn't too pretentious, but definitely not like the college kids gone wild on the streets of Gaslamp.
    - We just had a beer each so we can't say much for the drinks; the prices were reasonable.
    - If you get a table, the loungey area is nice and cozy.

If you want a quiet night out with a couple friends or date, this is the place. But if you're looking for a place to meet new people, don't think this is the spot.

I love this place!  The best part about this place is that it is a rooftop club, you are out in the open air staring out at the city while you drink and dance.  You have a view of the baseball stadium and a portion of downtown San Diego.  There is a fire pit and two bars, good music, and good crowds on the weekend.  Get a buzz and move your feet!

There is something to be said for such an upscale rooftop lounge with such amazingly friendly staff and security.  No one tilted their nose to the sky when a bunch of North Cacky's came stumbling in.  Granted, we were well dressed and tottering on the highest of heels so I'm sure that didn't hurt ;)

More so, the views are outstanding.  The firepits warmed our hearts and the seating is plush and plentiful. Further, this would be an amazing place to catch a game at Petco Stadium.

The music was a mix of loungey and more upbeat the perfect combination.  The bar staff were the finest of mixologists and their concoctions were incredible.  My husband was absolutely in love with their mojito's.

After an awkward altercation that is a story of it's own, I have to say I am extremely pleased with the quality of the security staff, their quick action, and the lack of excuses they allow.

Very cool place to visit while in SD!

Came here on our recent visit down south in SD. We read this place was nice to visit and is a great tourist spot. We came on a Sunday night, tried to come on a Saturday but the line wasn't moving so we left, and the ine was way short and the express elevator really was express. Once up top we were blown away at the view! So nice! The nights air was warm. The bar area and lighting was great and attractive. Fire pit in the middle really warmed you up if you sat around it in the comfy chairs, but the really cool part was if you walked to the very left and you have a specatular view of PetCo park. Looked really nice even at night. The view all around was nice actually.

The local and crowd overall was pretty chill probably because it was a Sunday. No ghettoness. The drinks were a bit pricey. But hey, NO COVER to get in!

We spent my best friend's bday here and I have to say that I have mixed feelings about the place.

Venue: great sky line views, freezing cold outside even nestled in at our table, which required us to grab a blanket. It was pretty close to our hotel room so it was convenient for us.

Service: DISMAL. We had a table for a birthday and tried to bring in a bday cake so we could sing to her. We were denied the cake and told that no restaurant on earth allows you to bring cakes in. Um, really? Every restaurant, club, and nightlife venue I've been to so far has let us bring a cake.

    Music: pretty decent.

Overall, we had a table and had fun with our own group. But it would've been better had the meat heads at the door not blocked the cake and then proceed to talk shit to us.

I literally gasped when I saw the view.  (And I don't overuse/misuse "literally", so I mean it FOREALS haha!)  You get your choice of Petco Park/Coronado Bridge or SD Harbor/Convention Center.

No cover, no dress charge.  ALL the bouncers I encountered were friendly, so just use basic manners, and you'll be fine.  I arrived around midnight on a Saturday, so the line was long but moved fairly quickly.  No complaints here.

Altitude is gorgeous itself (fire pit, white couches, palm trees, ambient lighting), but the view gives it the extra edge over other lounges DT.  I will definitely be back!

I never thought I would give downtown bars/clubs 4 stars because drinks are expensive, the crowds, the covers etc but, this place is awesome.

The view alone is stunning and I love that there is no cover charge. Swanky atmosphere and DJ was spinning some good tunes. I liked that it wasn't incredibly crowded and seemed more low key than the other places in downtown.

I had a mimosa which, was $9...not cheap..but, standard for downtown. It was actually one of the better mimosas I had but, that could be because I asked him to put more OJ than champagne (I know I'm a cheap drunk so, I had to pace myself!).

Pacing myself didn't work out as a planned though cause my friend bought me a shot of grey goose and I ended up in bed by midnight.

Great location over looking Petco from the top of the Marriot Gaslamp.  While I wouldn't call it a lounge on Friday and Saturday nights, its still a great place.  You will find it more of a club atmosphere with DJ's and the typical music along with that.

The ballgames are great but the views of the park can get pretty crowded.

The main bar is usually packed so head to the smaller one towards the the ballpark side of the roof.  Good stiff drinks certainly help things out.

If your staying at the hotel, skip the line in the lobby and just use your room key to bypass the wait.

We spent Thursday night here and came back Friday night of Comic Con week since we liked this place so much. ALTITUDE is located on the 22nd floor of the Gaslamp Marriott. Not too crowded on Thursday and very packed on Friday.

The view of the city up here is pretty nice. You have a great view of Petco Stadium on the small bar side, which there is a DJ Booth directly above it. There is a fire pit in the middle with chairs circling it. The main bar is on the right side after exiting the elevators.

Even though I thought the DJ was so so both nights, I did enjoy his track selections. He lacked smooth transitions from track to track. Regardless, the tunes were nice as I kicked it tipping a few back by the fire pit. A Stella draft will run you about $8 here. Even though there was some dancing, this spot is mostly a chill place for lounging around. This is a good place to kick it and converse with friends and people you randomly meet that night. It is not the wild, crazy and loud place to raise the roof because there isn't one and it is just a chill lounge. If you are looking to party hard, this joint would be a good place to warm up for hitting it hard somewhere else later.

Great view! We got to watch a free ball game. Sweet!

Drinks are over-priced as expected, parking will give you an anxiety attack, and some of the patrons could use a fashion adviser. Skinny jeans that cut off blood circulation to your members is a torturing device, and will not help you score a date with a hot chick.

Can you say beautiful view of downtown San Diego and Petco Park?! Last night was a beautiful night! It was a full moon, not a cloud in sight. Such a wonderful way to end the evening.

We grabbed drinks at the bar and took a seat next to the gravel fire pit. $11  for stiff drinks (not bad). Beer selection - not impressed.

Red velvety blankets are available near the entrance if you get cold at night. What a nice touch.

What a gem! I can't wait to come back with some girlfriends.

    Saturday Night Review...

    No line
    No Cover (Guys & Girls)
    No Problems

Marriot Rooftop with DJ spinning Top 40s mixed w/Old School (Jackson 5, TLC, etc.). Beautiful views of SD Padres Baseball field.

Short line, 1 shot up the elevator and there we arrived. The venue is beautiful, a large fireplace set outside kept classy ambiance, heat lamps hung above kept everyone warm, tables limited but grab one and you're set! If not, plenty of standing/dancing room...TV/Projectors showed music videos of whatever the DJ was playing. Security /guards monitored the floor quietly.

Late 20's-Late 30's crowd. Mixed nationalities. Good Looking Crowd.

I would so come here again!

    Goose & Soda = $12
A little high but for no cover and good music plus a place to sit, I'm OK with this!

    We had a blast!
