I was a member here for over a year. This gym is a great facility. I like the amount of equipment and the number of TVs. It's always very clean and the staff is very nice. Decent membership dues and great amenities. They offer a variety of classes (Morning yoga is my favorite one). Definitely join, if you can :)

I travel to Gainesville for work now and then -- this was my first experience at Alter Ego. Seriously disappointing.
First off, I can't remember the last time I went to a gym that didn't have antibacterial wipes for the equipment -- maybe 1993? Unsure. Disgusting. I'm just wiping my sweat around on the equipment when I clean up.
Ventilation is really poor. You can smell the stale hiding behind the Glade Plug-Ins. There's a big fan behind the TVs in the cardio room, but what's the point if it's on slow oscillation and it's blocked?
No towels. A gym in Florida without towels. Let that sink in. You know people are going sweat like hogs because of the humidity...I'd pay you $3 just to give me a towel to help you out.
Best part of all: dude behind the counter cannot stop himself from calling everyone "bro". -
