I was looking for a more understated place than the wedding factories around the corner on Miracle Mile to have my wedding dress altered, and this fit the bill. Missy, the owner, is incredibly sweet, friendly, patient and helpful. I didn't have a bridal party and my sister lives in Cali, so I needed her help, and she gave me advice about everything from the neckline to the kind of shoes I should get. As with most wedding dress alterations, it took a few fittings, and by the time it was done, I felt like we were friends.  It doesn't hurt to know some Spanish, but it's not essential. She's been in the biz for a long time, and understands how to make clothes look good.  Missy's daughter Stephanie helps with the website and answers emails, and she was also great to work with.

Unfortunately, I did not have the most positive experience here.  I first tried AlterEgo when I needed to have a formal gown altered.  Since they are dressmakers as well as seamstresses, I figured they would have the know-how to make the adjustments I wanted.  And we got there . . . eventually.  I had to have the dress fitted three times because they didn't quite get it right the first or second time.  However, the work was fine and I was happy with the eventual outcome.

I decided to use their services again, and I brought in a dress that I wanted to have made into a skirt and top.  I was told it would take about two weeks.  Seven weeks later, I came across the receipt and realized they had never called me to pick up the items.  I called the shop and they said they would get back to me.  Two days later, they gave me a call to come pick it up.  Well, the blouse had been cut too short by about three inches, and they hadn't done any work on the skirt.  She offered to finish the skirt, but after seven weeks and a poor job on the top, I decided to cut my losses.  I took my unwearable blouse and the unfinished bottom of my dress home.

Alter Ego totally saved my weekend! I had a very very last minute alteration and they stayed open late for me on a friday and had the dress tailored for me by the next afternoon.  they did an amazing job and even took the extra step of steaming it for me.
thank you and you are the best!

i bought an awesome bcbg dress on mega sale but since im kinda vertically challenged i needed it hemmed quite a few inches and the shoulder straps adjusted.
i dropped off the dress here on tuesday morning. i got fitted she pinned it up, assured me it would be a perfect fit and told me i could pick it up friday at 4. awesome.

so friday morning i call to see if i could pick it up earlier since i would be in the area. i didnt get a clear answer, so i ran other errands and at 255pm i decided to stop in and see if by any chance it was ready.
i got an attitude from the lady telling me it wasnt 4 pm yet. i said oh sorry i didnt think one hour out of 4 days made such a difference.
and i left went around town killed time and went back with some friends at about 430 pm.

the lady that had assisted me was long gone. but the older lady gave me my dress. luckily i have some trust issues and i tried it on (ive been burned by tailors before)
i had to call out to the lady because the zipper was caught on the fine chiffon, she fixed it.
and then i had to call out to her again ask what had happened?!?!? the shoulders had not been adjusted at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so she is like oh yeah sorry we couldnt fix it bc the beading on the chiffon was falling apart.
and im like uuhhh when were you planning to tell me??? what if the wedding had been tonight? was i supposed to go with my boobs hanging out????
thank god i had taken a friend with me, who maybe should consider a future in alterations, she showed the lady where she could take it in to make it work.
although annoyed, i was super polite about it and said i would pick it up the next day. considering i had the wedding in just a few hrs i thought i was more than nice about it.

i get there try on the dress again. and it fits great, thank god!
when she rings me up its 85!!! what?!?!?!? are you kidding. im like lady you cant be serious.
she starts getting mad and giving attitude, to which i quickly match up with my own 'tude.
she claims thats the price. and im like you just filled that in, i saw the invoice yesterday and it was blank. (im pretty sure its scam they do, i think i woulda been charged the full 85 price the day before as well, even though they had not delivered the dress as promised since the shoulders were not fixed at all, btw it still even has the chalk lines where it should have been taken it)

im thinking the least you can do is give a discount considering you didnt have the dress ready as promised on friday. and didnt even let me know that the shoulders were not fixed, she had my cell number she coulda called.

we go back and forth and i tell her im honest and decent, im gonna pay in full, but she is extremely unprofessional. you didnt fix the dress as promised you didnt even call to tell me couldnt fix it, you werent even here to show your face, and had the other lady deal with it.
she called me a grosera (that means vulgar), i didnt even say one bad word, i simply referred to the older lady as her mom, since their website says mother daughter team. whatever.

so i had never been happier to hand over a "youve been yelped card" her jaw almost dropped since she advertises on here. good luck lady, your lack of professionalism and decency and your ridiculously inflated prices will not go unnoticed.
