I'm so glad that I found this wonderful place!  Dr. Budde and her staff are amazing wonderful, caring, knowledgeable people and I actually look forward to taking my pets in.
My dog is prone to cancerous tumors and has had several surgeries to help.  Dr. Budde was great at explaining what was going on and letting us know what our options are as well as updating us throughout the day on how the surgeries were going.
Their prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed and happy.

I took my dog Harls to see Dr Budde when she had a cut paw.  I was impressed, a Vet that's Honest and takes the time to lay out all your options.  Harly is a pit bull / Akita cross and is people shy so finding a person that Harly likes is rare.  During the exam Dr Budde found a small tumor, I was really glad she found it!  Anyway she laid out all the options, I knew I needed to get the cut sutured up, but now I needed deal with the tumor.  I decided to get the tumor taken care of at the same time he put Harls under Anesthesia for suturing her paw.  I don't know if another Vet would have found the tumor, Dr Budde did and probably saved Harls life, not to mention a larger treatment (and bill) in the future.  Dr Budde is our vet now.   Thanks Dr Budde

I have to rectify my earlier review and also bow to the power of social networking and customer service (which I really thought had died a while ago). After my review, I was contacted by Alta Vista and I was explained that my second bill was nothing but a mistake (which they were quick to acknowledge and credit my account with the difference). I think this type of situations might be avoided if I had brought up if I feel the nail trim was not all in the up and up (I guess this is due to my somewhat non-confrontational personality).
However, I have to say that the staff @ Alta Vista care deeply about their personality and it has made me think that reviews on this site might become more helpful if we wait until our initial anger/frustration has subsided before posting a review. From now on, I really think we should sub-estimate the influence our reviews play on our fellow consumers decision lightly.
Thanks Alta Vista for caring enough to want to keep me as a customer...I will see you in our next appointment.

So I've only been here twice but both were very good visits. The first was a check up and they were very good at explaining everything to me. The price was so much better than my last vet. Also everyone is so friendly.

So they told me he needed his teeth cleaned which I knew but have never done because my last vet said it could be almost 3K! So I could never afford it. Well they gave me an estimate of 1K and it ended up being just under 700 with all his medicine included....plus I got stuck in traffic and was late picking him up but they waited for me even though they were closed....even if I move from the east bay, I will be coming back here.

I went in to see Dr. Budde a little over 5 months ago with my 18+ year old cat Tigger. We new her kidneys were failing and she had lost weight. Dr. Budde explained all the tests we could do, even said I could do it in stages to save money. Well to make a long story short, Thanksgiving came around and Tigger couldn't walk right. So that evening I took her to the 24 hour vet at bay area vet clinic and said goodbye.

The following Monday I went back to Dr. Budde to return some food I had bought and donate the remainder of Tigger's fluids. Dr. Budde came right up to me and gave me a big hug and said, "When I got the report from the clinic I thought to myself thank God that girl was brave enough to do the right thing!" That was exactly what I needed to hear because for the entire weekend I had felt guilty. They also sent me a very sweet sympathy card.

Well one month ago I adopted a pair of adorable kittens and I took them to meet Dr. Budde and she and her staff were happy to see me back. Thanks Dr. Budde and staff for being so supportive and being there for me when I needed you. You guys are the best!

Dr. Budde is the most knowledgeable, no BS veterinarian I have ever been to. Her practice is surrounded by tons of competition in Hayward so she keeps her prices really competitive. She tells you like it is and doesn't ever mince words...ever. No I mean it, she'll talk a lot. She really cares about the animals and the rest of the staff is great too! I live in Sunnyvale, and I drive to Hayward to get to Dr. Budde because she is the best!!

Recently one of my "kids" was diagnosed with cancer-Dr Budde has worked tirelessly to treat my girl, even calling me on her day off to discuss treatment. Her staff is helpful and very friendly...I feel like family here.

I was very impressed with Dr. Budde. She has not lost her love for her work or the animals like so many vets do after being in the business as long as she has.

Her reception and other staff were both friendly and conscientious about their work . My dog peed on the scale and they cleaned it up right away. The place may be small and feel a little cluttered but it was immaculate in terms of cleanliness. Dr. Budde was extremely thorough with her examination and made sure to explain everything going on with my dog. She was honest and did not do any unnecessary procedures. She kept my costs down this way.

My only trouble was their lack of communication. My husband tried calling several times because of an insurance problem with no answer. It seems that after they get their money, they stop caring.

Thanks Yelpers for the great reviews. Katie B is right on with the review.  Dr. Budde is basically a no nonsense straight forward Vet. I love this office and love all of the ladies there.

I had to take my Chihuahua Princess there for a bump on her nose and found that she also needed dental work EEEWWW $$$$$. The doctor gave me three different options and told me the quickest (and most expensive) solution, the cheap way and one other way (hmmm guess it would be the middle way??? lol).  I explained that we were low on funds and she gave us the best answer and best treatment.

Needless to say flattened bump and 11 teeth later (yes had to remove 11 teeth) my Princess still gets excited when she sees this place. What a weirdo lol. It's probably because she loves them as much as I do.  YAY!!!!

The scariest time for any "pet lover" is when one of their family members is sick. Having said that - when we are looking for a vet we just want someone to make it all better. And therefore are primed to be taken advantage of. I have been a victim of this time and time again.

I was pleasantly shocked by finding a veterinarian who not only cares about each of her patients but who prides herself in giving her patients owner brutally honest advice. BRAVO!!!!

**If you too sensitive for this level of honesty this vet is not for you - but you are missing out!

Dr. Budde is amazing! She is extremely thorough and does take the time to go through all your options so that you can make an intelligent decision.  My four four-pawed children now have a new doctor! I end this review with one quote from the good doctor herself. "I'm going to tell you what you must do for your pet, if you don't like it tough... I'm not here to be nice, I am here to make your pet better!"

So I had a follow up visit for my pup. I've made up my mind and Dr. Budde will be the only Vet I go to!! She gives GREAT advice. And if you have an appointment, you are seen at your appointment time (or very close to it)!!

No waiting for 30 minutes to an hour in the lobby like other vet offices!! I love Dr. Budde; her personality, the way she handles my lil man, and how she does a full check on my pup to see if there are any hidden issues lurking. Usually, vets just check on what you brought them in for, not other problems that may exist. And as we all know, it's imperative to catch a health risk early on to reduce the damage and save $$$

Hooray!! She is the BEST vet I have ever come across. :)

II will first say that I do not doubt Dr. Budde's competence, as she is obviously very knowledgeable.  However, my bill totaled a little over $1,300.  My cat was just constipated. However, before she could come to that conclusion, I had to pay for an x ray, ultrasound, blood work, etc.

I realize now the hints the staff were giving me, once Dr. Budde left the room...stating that he is probably just constipated, and to give him a baby enema and see how that worked.

Therefore, to sum it up, Dr. Budde makes you think that your pet is dying.  Now does she do this intentionally to get your money or because she is truly believes that you're pet is in dire need.  Who knows?

What I do know, is that I have never had any issues like this with any other vet. EVERY other vet will go from the least expensive treatment and tests on up.  Dr. Budde, went to the most far-fetched and expensive testing first.  My cat wasn't eating and had not went to the bathroom for 2 days....Why was I getting pancreatic tests done? Dr. Budde stated that she could not give an enema, unless she did an ultrasound, blood work and an x ray.

Anyhow, what do I know, right?  I am not a vet!  WELL...let me ask you, is it common practice for a human to have an x-ray or an ultrasound prior to an enema.  I think not! So why the heck does my cat need one.

theres nothing else than going to the vet to let the fact sink in that you finally have a pet. its a scary feeling because i didnt know what hell i was doing. but the staff made everything awesome.

And with Dr. Budde, you cant go wrong. Not only she is very knowledgeable but shes also very friendly and you can tell that she loves her work AND the animals. its relieving to know that she knows what she's doing.

they dont try to oversell, they tell you straight up what you need and what they THINK would be better and what i should consider. its awesome.

forget the prices (which can definitely add up), its all worth it knowing your dog is perfectly healthy. how can you go wrong?

I truly heart this Vet Clinic.  I heart Dr. Budde and her staff...here's a couple of reasons why:

Dr. Budde:  I took my cute doggie Clancy in for a quick physical checkup so we could board him at the clinic for the weekend.  After Dr. Budde examined him, she shocked me with all the things that my poor little man was going through....rotting teeth, ear infection, eye infection, etc.  Now keep in mind, I was just took him to two different vets a week earlier because of his seizures.  Neither mentioned the ear or eye infection (which had been going on for awhile).  One vet did mention about the teeth, but didn't really emphasize how severe it was.  After Dr. Budde showed me his teeth, I was in shock.   She never pressured me to spend any money, she clearly wanted me to be well informed about his health.    She's takes care of dogs for the local police departments and is the vet for some of the Raiders' players.  So you can clearly see she's got a good reputation.   I took him in the next week to get his teeth extracted and his ears flushed out.  Since the surgery, Clancy has never been happier!  He's no longer grumpy and has his old energy back.  Thank you so much Dr. Budde for getting my ol' Clancy Pants back!

Staff:  I heart the staff, especially the girls at the front desk.  They are so super friendly!

Thank you to Dr. Budde and your staff for taking care of my Clancy Pants.

Don't be afraid to venture towards this area of Hayward because it will definitely be worth your trip!  Mojo has been seeing Dr. Budde and her WONDERFUL staff for about 3 years now and I have to say, every single visit has been great!  Not once has Mojo dropped a nervous load of crap on the exam table, waiting area, on the vet techs or anywhere in the clinic!  As nervous as he gets, the vet techs always seem to calm him down and really do care.  I appreciate the way they offer advice and knowledge by way of educating me instead of forcing their opinions down my throat or making me feel like I'm sitting in the principal's office.  Thank you Alta Vista Vet Clinic!  Mojo sends his love ;)

I used to live in Hayward and rescued a cat from the street out there. I took him in to Alta Vista to get looked at after my cat had a fight and was limping pretty bad. The staff there are great! Very friendly and caring. Dr. Budde is AWESOME.....she's very caring, quite funny and most of all she's very honest. She will tell you up front right off the bat what needs to be done, why and the pros and cons. Their prices are very reasonable. They're location is good....their office is a little small and a little dated looking, but the quality of service and care of your pet is still top notch. I've taken my cat to Pets Unlimited in SF before and the staff there are very cold, and mechanical. Pets Unlimited is well known for their knowledgeable staff and trauma care...but they could take lessons in people skills from Dr Budde and all their staff at Alta Vista

This was the closest clinic to our home so we made an appointment and the staff works with you if you need to reschedule. Jenny is one of the staff members and she is really pleasant.

Also Dr. Budde saw our cat and our cat loved her. I really liked how Dr. Budde worked with us and was very comforting to (our feral recently adopted) cat. Also, I like how Dr. Budde has her staff address the guardians of the pets as "mom or dad" I thought that was so thoughtful compare to other clinics that may refer to guardians as "the owners" I really like how Dr. Budde has hired a trained staff to be polite to pet and their guardians. I only wish we could continue seeing Dr. Budde but it's a little too much for our pockets. However, I will say she is an excellent vet to go to if $$ is not an issue or if you have pet insurance and if you want to be assured that your pet and you are in good hands! If only we can find an insurance that would cover up to 80% of TOTAL cost of visit and everything put together we would never cheat on Dr. Budde by going to a more "affordable" vet. But however, I have not found such insurance.  But Yes, Dr. Budde and her practice is a really great place in Hayward and if you're worried about your pet's well-being and want to assure you and your pet are in good hands--call Dr. Budde

Took my 2 cats and my dog here. Dr. Budde seems really experienced and you can tell she takes veterinary medicine seriously. Being female and a pharmacist myself, I like supporting other women's businesses, so I decided to go here, and I am happy with my choice of vet. Boarded all 3 of my pets here and while my dog seemed fine, my cats hated their boarding experience there. Less than 5 minutes after they got into my car they pooped and peed all over their carriers so they were upset about something. I was really alarmed by that so I called the vet kind of enraged, but the girls were still polite and Dr. Budde talked to me herself, offered to do a free exam on the cats to make sure nothing was wrong, which I appreciated and I got over it. She neutered my dog, and he was absolutely fine afterward and didn't seem bothered by the experience at all. After 3 or 4 visits now, I trust this vet and will continue to go here. Her prices are average for vet visits, for boarding they're actually really affordable. And all the girls that work with Dr. Budde are really friendly, sweet, and pretty, so it's a nice atmosphere. I'm sure you'll be satisfied if you go here.

So my Kitten was sick with worms and not eating, i had taken her to another place that was no help, so i found alta vista in the phone book with a coupon for a free exam.  So i took my kitten to see Dr.Budde and she was one of the ruddest ppl that i have ever met!  First of all when she came into the examining room she didnt even acknowledge me then during the examination she had an overall rude attitude with me. She proceded to criticize me for getting the kitten from my cousin, then she said "well i know you just came here because of a coupon" and she acted like i was a peasant with no money!!  Also throughout the whole exam while she was telling me she doesnt know whats wrong and why the kitten wasnt eating I was telling her she had bad worms and I got her dewormed,  she said she didnt know what was wrong and that we could try a shot of fluids but insisted that the cat is sick, then before i left she said oh you could see the worms, and anyway my cat was fine the next day she was just dehydrated!! So if you want rude service this is your doctor.

My little 5 lb. yorkie had something on his eye one day, and knowing how sensitive the eyes are I didn't dare try to open his eye to see what was in it. So I decided to take him to a vet right away. My regular vets office was closed so I went to Alta Vista which was close by.
So, I get there and set my dog down on the floor(rushing out of my house I forgot his leash) there were no other dogs so I thought it would be fine. The lady at the front desk noticed my dog without a leash and started to chase him around the office! Good thing my dog is not aggressive and he didn't bite her. She told me he must be on a leash. Anyways when all that was settled the lady told me to fill out some papers and handed me a clipboard..I was a little upset that they wouldn't look at my dogs eye first. Shortly after the vet came out and told me I could finish the paperwork in the examination room. So I followed her in there with my dog. Without even glancing at my dog she told me it would be a $55 appointment but since she was technically finished for the day there is an $80 emergency fee. Then she told me, without looking at my dog still, that this was not an emergency and I shouldn't even be there. I couldn't belive how rude she was being towards not only me but also my dog, who she should care for, so I dropped the clipboard and  told her that I would be putting up a review online about my terrible experience. She then replied with,  "whatever"..( so proffesional of her!)..then I left. And here us the review. And by the way, I bought eye drops for my dog and used them that evening and he seemed to be better. But to make sure I took him to see a friend of mine who has her veterinary degree the next morning and she said he was fine. Thanks alot Alta Vista, you will never see my adorable yorkie or me again!

After the fiasco that was American Animal Hospital in Fremont, we were relieved to find Dr. Budde in Hayward.  Her knowledge and interest in her work is plainly obvious; her prices are great, the quality of service is terrific and very thorough.  The best part about Dr. Budde is the security you have with your pet under her care.  The office may be small, but you'd be foolish to overlook it.

We've been going to Alta Vista since 2003 and Dr Budde and her staff are the best!  When we walk in there, it's like Norm walking into Cheers.  The staff calls our dogs' names.  They are so welcoming.  I feel as though they are our extended family.  Right off the bat, I thought we couldn't go wrong with a vet called Budde.  I mean, buddy, are you kidding me, that's awesome.  Dr Budde knows our dogs very well and puts up with me being a hypochondriac dog "mom".  No matter how small my concern, Alta Vista takes time to make sure all my questions are answered and our dogs are taken care of.  We use Alta Vista for our vet needs, kenneling needs and nail trims, one stop shop. We never question leaving our dogs there while on vacation.  We know they are in good hands.  I can't imagine us going anywhere else.

Initially I thought this to be a great place, and a great doctor.  Over a couple of years I came to feel radically different about the Dr. and her way of doing business.  Initially my dog had some type of viral problem and Dr. Budde was noble enough to admit that she didn't have the answer.  She consulted at least 2 other doctors and made the determination.  I hugely respected that.  But over the corse of the next couple of years, her outlook seemed to change.  My dog was also diagnosed with hip dysplasia (not too uncommon) and during one visit Dr. Budde said, "I'll bet you wouldn't have bought this dog if you had known she would have this problem..."  I looked her square in the eye and proudly said, "I have loved this dog from the moment she came into my life."  She said nothing further.  Then I had to take her in on an emergency and immediately the doctor prescribed $500 worth of xrays on her hips.  WELL, I was referred to a hip surgeon and when we went, that doctor had no more set foot in the door when he said, "she has a neck problem!"  Huh, from hips to neck?  Indeed, she had a herniaed disc in her neck and was really in pain.  This doctor, who obviously knew what he was talking about, sent us directly to another surgeon and my baby was well taken care of.  At that point I wrote Dr. Budde off, but it TOOK FOREVER to secure my dog's records.  The staff IS, in fact, very "subtle" at giving hints.  When I repeatedly asked and got nothing, one of them finally asked, "are you leaving us because you are MOVING?"   Oh, the light came on.  So I said yes, and bam....I got the records.  We are now going to another vet in Hayward.  Staff is so so, one of the doctors is remarkable.
