Review from Hugo C.
I play a weekly pick-up soccer game @ Alta Vista. We have people drive here every Sunday morning from all over the South Bay. We've gone through a couple of different of parks in the area, but have eventually stayed with Alta Vista.
There's a nice open space across from the Tennis courts that we use to play on. A big shout out goes to the Redondo Beach maintenance crew for keeping the grounds tidy and in order. The grass never gets so long that it negatively impacts our games, and while there are several patches of yellow grass, it's definitely less than 5% of the overall property.
I expected parking to be more of a problem when I saw the park was adjacent to two different churches. Luckily, they have enough spaces to not have to come down to the park to...park. Even during baseball season, there's enough parking for all of us to share.
My favorite reason for loving Alta Vista? It's a dog-free zone. Your little furry friends are not allowed here. I was even lucky enough to witness a person walking their dog within the park during a baseball game. Someone got on the PA system and began to inform everyone that dogs were not allowed. When the person walking the dog didn't get the hint, they just kept repeating themselves. With each repetition of, "Dogs are not allowed at Alta Vista Park; please respect the rules" the voice grew louder and louder. By the fourth repetition, the dog walker was quick to jog to their car and get the hell out.
As much as it doesn't bother me for you to be out walking your dog, I really don't want to have to step in dog shit. Granted, most dog owners in this neck of the woods are quite considerate and bring their own baggies to clean up after their canine friends -- still, rules are rules. Rock on Alta Vista with your bad self. Keep those dogs out! -

This review is for the SOFTBALL FIELD. Other than the field, everything else is pretty nice. Plenty of parking, in a safe neighborhood and area, clean restrooms.
BUT...when you normally play on Alta Vista's softball field, you'll know that this season, they fixed up their field. Redondo Beach Parks put up a new fence line, but added some extra layers of grass right off the dirt. No no, if a ground ball his that grass lip it takes a wicked bounce UP and can take out your teeth! The worse part about this field is the DAMN LIGHTING! Whoever designed this field didn't take into account that the bright lights shine right into your eyes when you're swinging for the fences. And when you're tracking down flyballs in the outfield, they blind you also. SUCKSSSSS!!!!!!
And the infield is also a dust bowl. Other than that, I do like the park. HATE HATE the LIGHTS! -

This park is in my very own 'hood
There's a ton of parking & that's good
There are 3 big parking lots
Bring your friends and bring your tots
Ball fields are all over the place
It's 19+ acres, a big space
Ball fields....I counted 4 or 5
Plus one for soccer, that's no jive
Kiddie playgrounds? there are two
And basketball courts, just for you
Did I mention the ball fields are lighted?
I'll bet the neighbors are delighted......(not)
Batting cages? hey, you betcha
And if that ain't enough, this will getcha:
Lighted tennis courts, 8 in all
Two indoor courts for racquetball
Summer tennis camps! man alive!
Call 310-408-9705
How 'bout a gorgeous Community Center?
Yup it's there and I did enter
It was built about ten years ago
It has bathrooms if you gotta go
Or call there: 310-318-0670
See my park photos, all 40 or so
The entire park is below street level
Like in a valley. You can revel
In the scent from eucalyptus trees
Carried on the summer breeze
Did I mention the picnic tables?
All that's missing are horses and stables
If horses were there they could get a drink
Cuz one picnic area has an outdoor sink
Vine-covered fences surround the park grounds
It's as pretty as it sounds
But don't bring Fido, he's been banned
No dogs allowed on Redondo park land
When I was a kid there were no PCs
And my family didn't have any TVs
I read lots of books & I played outside
I had a bike that I loved to ride
I would go to the park and sit in the grass
I loved the clover, what a strange little lass
Look at the photos I took today
My memories were rekindled in a big way
Alta Vista Park's green grassy fields
Are loaded with clover & it appeals
To bees and to bunnies - the rabbits, they eat it
As a kid, my pastime....well you just couldn't beat it:
I combed through the clover of pink and white
Until I would see an exciting sight
I'd find good luck, and moreover
I'd go home with a four-leaf clover
It's not as hard as you might think
To find one. That's a tip *wink wink*
I love the outdoors, like when I was a kid
I still ride a bike, I always did
I long to be outside, from dawn till dark

Came here to participate in the Beach Cities Relay for Life. This is a pretty nice community park with 2 baseball fields, several tennis courts, an open grass area, and a community center. There is paking in 2 locations in the park, but with the ability to service a large number of people there isn't enough. You can park on the street which seems like the norm.
