Review from Joan S.
This hidden park doesn't have much in the way of facilities, but it gets 5 stars for setting & views.
To get there, follow Crest Drive uphill from Crenshaw. It's a steeeeep climb, haha.....my little car was chugging, "I think I can I think I can" all the way up.....
The little tree-filled green space is worth the effort, however. When I arrived yesterday morning, I was the only visitor almost the entire time I was there. The parking lot was empty except for my little car, which was taking a short nap after the exhausting climb as I explored the park.
A walking path circles the 5-1/2 acre space, and as I wandered with my camera, tiny lizards scurried away at my feet. It was as if they don't encounter too many people to disturb them, the way they were sunning in the open spaces. Animal Control was entering the park as I was leaving, and told me of a coyote sighting in the area. No surprise, because the park is surrounded by woods & fields, a rustic and natural environment. There had once been a rattlesnake sighting, too, I was told. Again.....to be expected, and I always keep in mind that snakes & coyotes & all other critters are more scared of us than we are of them. Just give them a chance to move on & they surely will.
This park space is completely fenced in, btw, and the gates are locked at night, see photos of the signs.
There are views from all over this lovely park. I could look down on Torrance Airport from one side. It was so completely peaceful. There are lots of benches, a restroom building, a second building with meeting rooms & a kitchen, a shaded picnic area with grills, and half a basketball court. Haha! And a nice kids playground.
The restroom was clean, but no doors on the stalls. Must be a Torrance park feature, I've seen it before. I don't like it.
I love the way this pretty park is tucked away in a very quiet neighborhood, about as off-the-beaten-track as a place could get. If a secluded, quiet refuge is what you need, check it out.
