Best seafood on the New Hampshire seacoast, and I'm not just saying that because I used to work here.

A lot of other seafood restaurants in the NH seacoast and MA north shore areas get their seafood directly from Al's, but it's here that they know how to prepare it the best. Everything is cooked to order and tastes amazingly fresh. Lobster salad is made daily in the kitchen from real lobsters that are cooked on premises, none of that fake lobster meat that you find at McDonald's or other restaurants during the summer months. Al's Maine shrimp is delicious, his scallops are wonderful, even the chicken strips are fantastic. And the french fries and twice-baked potatoes will have you clutching your stomach in pure bliss.

If you're from the area and have never tried Al's before, or if you're just up visiting, I highly recommend that you stop in and grab some lunch or dinner. You won't regret it. Easy on your wallet AND your taste buds. The parking lot is small and sometimes spots are at a premium, but there's a reason for that. Al's definitely deserves every single star that I've given it.

Al's, you have disappointed me tonight. Since I gave you a 5 star review last time, I feel it needs an update from my experience tonight. I gave you 3 stars today, so my reviews will average 4 stars, overall.
    This was my experience

twas 8 o clock Friday nite.. not too busy. 4 other parties already eating and little kids running amok that need some parenting running around.

I was not greeted as I stood at the counter for what seemed like a little too long. I don't mind waiting if you are busy in the back, but just greet me and tell me you'll be right with me... it's little things like that that make me want to come back.
We ordered a chowder for me and a chicken boat for the mister.

While waiting for the food, I used the bathroom that could have used a freshener spray. There was a sign on the door that read in plain English "please knock on the door and wait for a response. the lock is not working properly" Fair enough. Some dumb teenager walked in on me anyways... yes it was her fault, not Al's restaurant, but please, Al's spend the 15 dollars to for a new toggle bolt or $50 to replace the handle. People should not have to deal with that.

The next disappointing thing was that Mr. got his chicken boat and I was told my chowder would be right out. It took 5 more minutes. That is always a sad experience to go through. Should my husband wait and his food get cold? no. Should I have to wait drooling? no. There was nothing okay with this. When I did get my chowder, I am assuming it was reheated because it seriously burnt the roof of my mouth. It still hurts. I just don't understand the rationale behind serving people's food at different times at the same table.

I wrote out a comment card that gave my Yelp! URL so Al's could read this and I hope they do. (except the first pencil I picked out of the jar had a broken tip and i had to get up to get another one.) I really like this place, truly, but I wasn't pleased tonight. The staff just were not on the top of their game, obviously. I hope management will sort out whatever kink was in the line today.

The seafood is as average as it gets. However the ambiance is quite nice. You simply order your overpriced paper plate of grease at a window. Then, a lovely young girl delivers it to your comfy booth. Never a rush, and the eating area is quite attractive. If you've ever suffered through a meal a Bob's Crap Hut then you can expect more of the same. The fish is usually very fresh but the batter they use is not all that great. When you eat a fried haddock sandwhich, the oil drips onto the plate like a BP leak.

A few years ago the owner (who I believe is no longer there) told my wife that the whale bone hanging from the ceiling in the eating area was a whale penis. Maybe it's true?

Despite the mediocre quality of the food, we visit there every two months or so.

Very generous and tasty lobster roll.  The thing must weigh a couple of pounds.  And the coleslaw and fries served on the side are perfect accompaniments.

It's a little hard to spot during heavy traffic periods, but it's located just north of Abercrombie & Finch Restaurant.

I had the brioled scallops, and I could not believe the portion. It was alot of food. My wife had grilled swordfish and it was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this place!

I visit my sister and her family once or twice a year, and my vacation is not complete without a trip to Al's. (Used to do a lot of takeout, but batter and styrofoam do not mix.) I adore the oysters and shrimp. The crabcakes are meh ...obviously mass-manufactured. The portions are absolutely enormous.

I had the Seafood Platter for 1 and my wife has the Lobster Roll.  Good value for money. Staff work as a team. Constantly cleaning after leaving patrons which was refreshing. Ample seating and parking. Only problems is location. It's a little out of the way. but value for money. They have a website. http://www.alsseafoodn...

We stopped at Al's a few days ago & picked up some fish.  There were a few bones in the sole but the shrimp were delicious.  The fresh swordfish looked really good too.  I didn't get to try any of their cooked food but they do a nice job with the raw fish.  If you're in the neighborhood, give it a shot.

Sometimes when I go home, I just really need that good 'ole lobstah fix.  It's something that just doesn't happen in Houston.  Besides being really convenient to my parents house you just really can't beat the prices here.  Triple lobster dinner for $24.  Granted all three lobsters are chix and right about a pound so you're not getting a lot of meat but compared to Texas where you'd get one for the same price this is a steal.  Generous helping of fries and a not so generous helping of coleslaw round out the dinner.  Just perfect when two lobsters just isn't enough.

Great seafood, good size portions. Clean and neat. The only odd thing is the "RESERVED" signs on every table and a sign stopping you from entering the dining area, unless you have ordered at the counter. I just don't get it. Maybe they have a problem of people just sitting in their dining room and not ordering food? Other than that really great food.

We've been to Al's about 10 times and although I don't think it's a great place to eat, it is decent and we keep going back. I want so bad for these guys to get it right but we've been disappointed on more than one occasion. The last time we went provoked me to right this review. We ordered the fish and chips (fried haddock) and our food was not cooked properly. The fish was undercooked and the plate was very watery. We sent it back and they cooked it a little longer and it was better but they brought back the plate with the original fries which were now cold and soggy. I brought this to the attention of the girl at the counter and she took our plates a second time. I'm not sure if they just reheated our fries but when we got our plates back the fries were hot but the fish was now cold. OYE! What they should have done is let us keep our fish plate and just brought out some new, warm fries. We also ordered the steamers which were okay but our lobster roll was a little on the small side for $15 bucks. (We normally go to the Beach Plum for lobster rolls which BTW are fantastic and weight a ton). Al's isn't a bad place but it's not a great place IMO. Also, I think the prices are a little steep for an "in the rough" type of place where you order at a counter and they bring you the food, plastic utensils, etc.
