11 reviews for Al's Pizza
Love their thin, thin crust - our favorite house pizza being Al's Pizza Margherita (fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, fresh tomato). Their sandwiches are also delicious, I'm a fan of their eggplant parm, with sweet and hot peppers, ohMYgawd, nirvana for the eggplant sammy lovers out there (you know who you are) Their fries are also a delight: hot crispy and plentiful.
Service is prompt, we always do delivery cuz that's how we roll (inner city refugees that we are), and they always get things to us in a timely manner.
Overall one of our favorite delivered dining spots - though they get only 4 out of 5 possible stars because of a couple of slightly bizarre customer service and food experiences we've had with them - probably just flukes - but for the most part, service has been excellent, and the food has been as well.
The thincrust pizza is great, service is another story. Yesterday, I ordered one for pick up and when I arrived 30 minutes later, my order was no where to be found; the person behind the counter wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Since I had to run some errands, I decided to place another order and told them I would be back. On the second trip, she could not find the second pizza order but magically found a pizza ready that fit my order but they did not have exact change(whole other story). When I arrived home I realized that this pizza has been sitting around and was cold, like an hour cold. There are too many pizza places in Chicago to have to deal with this kind of service.
I gave the pizza a try. This is the first time have ever been to Al's Pizza.
I liked the pizza. The crust was nice and flacky with a bit of crunch to it. The crust also had a nice butter flavor.
The sausage and cheese were very good. I thought the pizza could use just a bit more sauce.
The parking is something to be desired. I couldn't find any street parking available on a Friday around 6:00pm. I called and was told there is a lot in back. The lot was close to full, but I was able to knock on the back door and pick-up my pizza.
One more thing. If you use a GPS to get there it is listed as A's Pizza(no letter L) I also noticed the same spelling on the back of the building for the parking information sign.
I will be returning to try some of the other food.
I tried the pizza two times now and still love the thin crust. It reminds of a place back in my old neighborhood called "Pat's Pizza" on sheffield. Anyway the pizza is good but i must admit the delivery is slow. I'll be picking it up from now on.
I moved to Portage Park just about a year ago and the first place I got introduced to was Al's. I've been back numerous times because the Pizza is always great and service is quick and friendly. I definitely recommend picking up because they make it so fast its just really pointless to have a deliver..unless of course you're just lazy that night and want them to bring it to you. However, if you really want it fresh I'd definitely advise against delivery.
What I love about Al's is you can throw all sorts of ingredients in there... I especially dig their Spinach, Garlic, Artichoke combo....
Excellent pizza for thin crust lovers out there! :)
well this experience certainly started off awful. girl on the phone was really great and friendly when i place my order at 12:17pm. she said it would be here in 45 minutes. i figured "great, pizza will be here right at halftime." i called to check on my order status at 1:43 and she said "it will be there soon, i'm sorry for that sir." it's now 1:56pm, the 3rd quarter is almost over, and i'm starving because they still haven't showed up. it's seeming more and more that i should have gone with my instincts and walked to jewel and bought some food. but hey i just got back from vacation and i wanted to be lazy and order a pizza and watch the bears.
okay well it showed up 5 minutes before two hours after placing the order. cold. and hey forgot my liter of RC. pizza is good for what it's worth, but I won't be ordering from this place again. two hours?!?! they're like 5 blocks from my house.
and to the person who said you're lazy if you don't go and pick your food up yourself, i suppose you don't know any people that don't own a car.
Al's pizza gets 5 stars for the pizza but delivery sucks and the parking for pick up is not the greatest either. The pizza is very good, "the thinnest" thin crust I have ever seen, good sauce , fresh ingredients. but the delivery drivers will piss you off. So I recommend just pick-up.
Al's Pizza is my husband's favorite pizza by far in Portage Park. It does have the best, "thin, thin" crust to be found in Chicago. If you like it more crispy, ask them to cook it a little longer. We're originally from the land of Imo's (the thinnest!!!), so it takes a lot to impress these thin crust lovers.
Delivery must be good because that's the only way my husband's pizza from Al's make it to our house.
Pizza was great, love the thin crust. I mean, dh and I have been searching the NW side for great thin crust pizza and I think we found it. However, the delivery time was about 1.5 hours. We don't live too close, but still... We'll order again, next time keeping in mind that there's a long wait.
It was our first time ordering from Al's and the last time. We ordered a thin crust half-special/half-cheese. The crust was thin...that was great but it was also SOGGY! Especially on the side half-special side. What a disappointment. The phone and delivery service was good. But i cannot eat soggy bottom pizza.
They are right! I would say they have the thinnest crust pizza in Chicago! The pizzas are not bad but a little pricey. Great for thin crust pizza lovers.
