I've been coming to this deli every morning for about four years. The staff is very friendly and everything is fresh and reasonably priced. Not sure where else around the area you can get an iced coffee of less than $2. I love Al's Deli!

the only reason i came here was because i had a couple hours to kill while waiting for my friend.
i picked up a smoothie. ingredients were obviously from canned fruit, but it still tasted good. it was pretty expensive, though. it was almost $5! must more worth it to go to jamba juice obviously.
i was reading inside and noticed that there was a HUGE bug / beetle-type thing crawling around the floor. SO disgusting. i had to leave, but since i was hungry, i decided to get a panini.
now, the panini was good, but he gave me the wrong one. it was yummy, but i wouldn't come back here again for it, especially for the price.
i dunno... it really is just a grab-and-go place. -

Al's Deli isn't for the faint of heart. It's the first stop for many an intensely harrowed and rushed commuter, speed walking between Penn Station and their lower midtown job with their sneakers on their feet and their good shoes in their bag. You can spot them, the regulars, as they strike the counter like a bolt of lightning and, with simply a nod or a barked "number 3, dry!" they order their The Usual. And always there is a group of confused looking tourists cowering somewhere near the back, unsure of what or how to order and how to say it in English, which they're not sure the employees or patrons are even speaking. And for the most part, they're not. It's rush rush rush go go go at Al's and everything is done in a kind of shorthand.
Look, the food is good, cheap, classic, and just the right amount of greasy. You know what you're getting at Al's. But do yourself a favor - if it's crowded and the back register is open, use it. The ladies who run the front registers can get a bit snippy. Fine, it's crazy in there. I understand. They have a system: Snatch the food out of your hand while barking the price, chuck it in a bag, hold out their left hand for your money while they snatch the next customer's food with their right to begin the next transaction, repeat. But when a cashier THROWS my bagel at me because I asked for "no bag, please"? (and I mean AT me, full force chucked at my chest.) That's when you lose some stars off my review. Well honey, I'm so sorry to have thrown a boot in your cogs, but it was a simple enough request.Listed in: City Folk Only

(2.50 stars) Not fancy by anybody's definition of the word, but Al's sandwiches and wraps are tasty-- and by Midtown standards-- inexpensive ($7.25 when last checked). They have a good selection of good "signature" sandwiches, and also make panninis. Be prepared to place your order when its your turn, and to pick it up when called-- this IS a Manhattan deli and impatience is the norm. I got my lunchtime sandwich at least once a week when I worked in Penn Plaza, and stop in when in the area.

I have been here twice on my way to the office. I got the NYC standard... Bacon, Egg and Cheese on a roll. This place is super busy and super fast. The sandwich was OK nothing great, but it does the job.

3 dollar grilled cheese. 4 dollar pasta. The food is decent and the prices are awesome. They also have sandwiches, a small buffet food section, tacos, quesadillas, burgers, chips, soda, fruit, and some basic snacks. They also serve breakfast (pancakes, eggs) and will serve it to you after breakfast hours (sweet!) And they have some cheap combos that will include chips and a cookie. But- they close a bit early, 8pm last I checked, so bummer.
I usually come here in the evening on my break, and theres never a line. The cashier girl is always rushing me, even when I'm the only one there. But they're still plesant- so I'm a happy customer. -

I come here only to order their breakfast specials. One of their specials is a bacon, egg, and cheese on an english muffin for $1.99 until 11am est. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll for $2.75.
The lunch specials also cost decently cheap. I'll come back to order lunch if I can't stay out long for a break at work. Al's Deli is the only deli I know that blast music outside. -

Had lunch at this place today with some co workers. I must say the staff are all friendly, and very professional. The reason I gave 3 stars is because I thought their sandwiches were quite pricey. They need to offer lunch special like sandwiches and soup since we are in fall season. Would go back.

The guys behind the deli this morning were on a roll. I ordered a roll with eggs and bacon. I asked for the #1 and within a few minutes , out it came across the counter. I could tell the regulars... they just shout what they wanted and then move on.
I was always intimidated by the long lines in the morning passing by this place from Penn Station but they kept the line moving. So helpful that they have another cashier in the back so there's 2 cashiers at the place to keep the patrons moving along.
for the food....well, it's eggs and bacon (good portions) on a roll...a protein satisfying meal in the morning given that I didn't have a real dinner last night. -

Turkey on a hero and I get one slice if meat? Are you kidding? This is NYC, a thick pile of meat is what a turkey sandwich calls for. Sounds like cheap owners and inexperienced sandwich makers.
Do not go here, they'll rip you off. -

Now you can have all that and a bag of chips!
Tucked in a midtown world full of offices, shopping, and many other delis, Al's stands out among the crowd. Their prices can't be beat on the advertised sandwiches. Whether you've been slaving away at the office or shopping till you drop at Macy's, this is a great place for a cheap lunch.
$6.45 (with tax) gets you a #10 cheeseburger deluxe complete with fries and a can of soda. Or an Italian sub with a pickle and chips. All of their items are fresh and the service is fast.
There is seating in the back and around lunch there is usually room. The deli can be easy to walk past, but it's across the street from Macy's and centrally located. -

The food here is a little better than usual Deli fare, but pretty damn close. The guys are friendly. The real reason I love this place is that the two ladies at the register are so friendly and nice that you feel good when you leave. Plus they have mean bacon sandwiches. Yum, bacon.

1. My order was supposed to come with a pickle and I didn't get one. Neither did my boyfriend. Maybe they were out of them, but I can't harp on them for this because I also didn't specifically ask where it was.
2. My boyfriend ordered an italian sandwich which is supposed to include salami, but they were out of salami, so they put turkey on it instead. Turkey really isn't a good substitute for salami. The guy behind the counter asked my boyfriend three times if he wanted oil, mayo, mustard on the sandwich. My bf responded each time that yes, he wanted all 3. He only got oil.
3. Chips came with my meal, which you are allowed to grab a bag on your own at the display at the front of the store. So after I pay, I got some Sunchips- the woman behind the counter who checked me out, tried to tell me no, that wasn't one of the chips I could take. I thought she kept telling me to take "the small bag", so I held up a couple bags that I thought were smaller of different varieties. Then the woman kept telling me no and repeating "small bag", then rolled her eyes at me and shook her head. I told her I didn't understand what she was saying, and then I heard her more clearly say "blue bag". Ok, let me just say that even if I had heard correctly from the start, that "blue bag" is not descriptive enough either because there are Cool ranch Doritos and Sunchips both in blue bags on the shelves. Then I spotted the unknown brand of unflavored potato chip in a blue bag (although technically I would say it was more of a teal color) and that choice seemed to stop the cashier from glaring at me.
The food itself was 2/5 stars, but the poor communication from the staff with subsequent attitude really irked me. -

I wont go here anymore. When you go to order theres a guy that all he says is Next- over and over - its quite annoying....also if you order coffee the guy who does it, is doing it so quick sometimes the outside of the cup gets wet and since there cheap cups then they start to leak, coffee is all over the cup. I thought i got a default cup but it happened like 5 times. Then if you get a coffee and a sandwich in a bag it leaks all over your stuff. Also they charge as much as starbucks for a cup of coffee. But the reason i wont go there anymore is because- the staff can be rude at times.

This is one of the worst Deli's in NY. They do not put enough meat on their sandwich's and over charge you for everything. I've paid over $8.00 for a turkey sandwich on wheat bread and the funny thing is that i would normally not care but there was one piece of turkey (bread sandwich!!). For breakfast, they charged me $6.00 for an egg sandwich (before 11am) - they charge you extra after 11am. DO NOT GO HERE, LOOK FOR ANOTHER DELI...TRUST ME, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED
