It was an icy cold day and the pizza was hot.  After a day in snow a good place to come.  College influence, names carved on all tables.  I'll be back.

I was really in between two and three stars on this one. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to go toward the lower end. Alpine Pizza just can't compare to the variety of pies I've tasted around the country.

On the afternoon of my visit, my hot date and I grabbed a sunny spot on the patio in some excellent weather. Unfortunately, two smokers showed up shortly after us and decided to light up on the patio. This, clearly, isn't allowed in Flagstaff (or anywhere else for that matter). Luckily, our server kindly asked them to stop and informed them they must smoke off of the patio. They, of course, chose to smoke about one foot away...that didn't exactly give our meal a good start.

Anyway, the service was pretty good and our food was decent, but just really not anything to brag about. The pizza was a bit greasy and the calzone we tried was really lacking flavor. The fillings we chose were all jumbled together in one place instead of being spread evenly throughout. The cheese was in one giant lump and when we tried to eat, we mostly got bites of bread.

All in all, our visit was just nothing to be excited about. I'll try somewhere new the next time I'm in Flag.

Nice friendly neighborhood pizza joint, like the ones where I grew up, New York. Prices are fair, portions are large. Pool table, beer.
But if your a Pizza Hut, Domino's lover you may not  like Alpine. Their pizza dough and sauce are very traditional with some new twists like wholewheat crust.

This was our first visit to Flagstaff's oldest pizzeria (orig. 1973).  We'd heard the pizza was extra special here and wanted to see for ourselves.  So we stopped by Wednesday afternoon 8/24.

We started out with a chicken cesar salad.  The salad was big enough for two, but it came with at least 50 croutons - (we were able to eat about 20) - and if you can believe this, TOO much chicken.  I know, I know, how can anyone complain about too much chicken?  Well, usually I wouldn't say anything but there was hardly any romaine lettuce.  The salad was mainly croutons and chicken!  The dressing was OK, a little ranch and some house italian.

Alpine Pizza is very proud of their pizza and they don't give it away at any kind of a bargain price - it's $18.57 for a two-topping 14-incher.  We asked for sausage and green peppers on a crispy crust.

I'll have to praise Alpine for getting the crust right except for the two bubbles on the border......the crust might be one of the finest I've tasted, just in terms of crust.  But the chef skimped on the sauce and ingredients so the pie came out of the oven dry and disappointing.  I would've sent the pizza back, but we were on a schedule and couldn't wait another 20 minutes for a replacement.

Overall, we felt taken by the hype surrounding what turned out to be just another mediocre pizza joint....we won't return, not with Oregano's in town.

My husband & I were on a day trip to take our puppy to see snow.  We parked the car and walked around until we found a place we could sit outside with our pup and eat.  We found it at Alpine Pizza.

When we sat on the patio with our puppy, the waitress even asked us if we needed a bowl of water. :D

They had a spaghetti special that my husband gives a four out of five stars.  I had a "slice" of cheese pizza that I too would give a four out of five stars.  Note.... a "slice" is actually more like two huge slices.  Not a skimpy little piece!

Our waitress was very friendly, even answering our tourist-type questions about Flagstaff.

We would definitely go back there again!!

I've been going to Flagstaff for years and each and every time you best believe I'll pay a visit to Alpine. Anchovies on a pizza? Hell yeah! They do it right! Their pies are so good I make myself sick each and every time I go. (I end up eating way, way, way too much.)

Alpine Pizza, pretty much the only great thing about Flag.

Clearly, this is a 'locals only' place, after reading the reviews from the folks who are 'passing through' Flag. Alpine Pizza is an institution in Flagstaff.  Same owners have served Flagstaff since the early 70's.  No, this is not Oreganos Pizza, and I'm thankful for that!  The pizza is really good and unique.  Beer selection is good, prices are nice, service is fantastic, and you just can't beat the ambiance. Perfect college town pizza and beer hang out.  My name is carved into one of the booths from 1986... you can't beat history like that!  :)
Don't go changin',  Alpine Pizza!  We love you!

Interior felt like a frathouse basement but I guess you get what you pay for. They had slice prices left over from the 80's or something. I swear I had more than I could eat and my bill was somewhere around $3. I'd go to this place again, maybe order take out though.

I do love Alpine Pizza. I am not sure about the prices on the whole pizza, but slices are absolutely cheap. A $2 slice for cheese that's so big it hangs off the plate is an amazing deal. They also have a student discount for NAU Students.

Quirky atmosphere, tasty pizza.  We were there on or just before Halloween for lunch and the place was filled with costumed, rowdy and very intoxicated college students.  Some of them could barely stand up and more than one plant got knocked over, much to the obvious chagrin of the wait staff.

The food was good, the service was friendly (and apologetic).  Would like to give it a try again sometime with a slightly less obnoxious crowd.

BONUS: The waitress felt so bad that we had to move tables (due to the falling down revelers) that she comped our sodas.

Favorite pizza in Flagstaff?  No.  But worth going to if you're looking for an interesting local eatery.

Ok, 1 star is harsh, but we didn't even get to eat. Wouldn't that be zero by definition?

    Here's the story:
8pm: We enter the restaurant and wait at the door to be seated. Two people are working behind the bar 5 ft from us, but fail to acknowledge our presence.
8:05: We take a table in the back
8:20: After 15 minutes of being ignored by a waitress (who has been busing the adjacent table since we arrived) one of us has to physically block her path to get her attention. We're told to order at the bar (where we were standing 20 minutes ago).
8:25: It takes another 5 minutes of standing directly across the bar from an employee (presumably the manager) before an order can be placed. In the meantime a waitress has arrived at our table to take orders. Pizza is ordered at the bar, drinks are ordered from the waitress.
8:40: Neither drinks nor pizza show up. Our party of 5 walks out the front door without acknowledgment.
8:50: We sit down to a nice meal at Beaver Street Brewery.

    Why 1 Star?
    Quality: ?
    Ambiance: -1
    Service: -2
Unable to give a negative score: +4

I drank hundreds of pitchers of beer here over the course of my studies, many years back. Have no recollection at all about the pizza or the service - I think if we got any kind of service at all we considered ourselves lucky. I've gone in a couple times in recent years and it seems about the same. I'm not, though, (the same, that is) which makes a difference. For one thing, those backless wood benches aren't as comfy as they used to be...

Advice: Come for beer. After many, many beers, the service and pizza are juuussst fiiiine.

I almost didnt write a review since I saw that everyone else has already said what I wanted to say, but here it goes anyway.

Four people walk in at around 1pm hoping for something good and cheap. We only got cheap.

The waitress was about as dull as their sauce, did not crack a single smile, no refills, she was cute, but no personality. That would have been fine if the food had been good.

I ordered a slice of chicken and spinach, which apparently was 1 piece of chicken, 1 leaf of spinach and some blad cheese that was chewy and gross, and practically no sauce on the pizza.

Only pro, you are allowed to carve anything you want on the wooden surfaces of the restaurant. If you find "Mojo 1/14/09" I'll buy a slice of Alpine Pizza!

Just a little left to be desired.

This seems more like a hangout for kids to work and talk with each other than it does a legit pizza shop.

It has so much potential:  old school cozy interior, super local, diverse group of customers, wood plank booths that are carved to hell AND a local dog with a fleece tied out front.

We ordered garlic bread, jalapeno pizza and a house salad.  I like tha the pizza did not look like a perfect circle.  They make their pizzas in a way that drives me insane. Based on what we got, it looked like the pizza dewd in the back grabbed a fist full of toppings and just tossed them in the middle of the dough between bong rips.  I HATE getting one slice with toppings and the next totally void of the goodies.

Don't half step.  If you are not a major cheese fan, tell them to go easy on the cheese....they have a heavy hand!

The pizzas and calzones are both adequate, though nothing spectacular.  A little fresh basil on both and less ricotta in the calzone and everything would have improved significantly.

Adequate food, adequate prices, adequate services. If you're downtown, craving pizza, and don't feel like Ni Marcos, it's worth a trip, but it certainly won't blow your socks off and I certainly wouldn't go out of my way for it.

We used to order from Alpine regularly and I recall it being much better, but the memory is also four years old.

Tonight was the third time in my life that I have sent something back and left - the calzone was cool / room-temp on the inside and moderately burned on the outside. I tried it and sent it back, leaving after paying almost $6 for the "garlic toast" which is essentially a few pieces of a french loaf with butter and garlic and a little bowl of again room temp sauce. Their workers were very friendly and understanding, but the food was atrocious. Don't waste your time!

I would skip this place.  The pizza is just ok....in the dominos category....certainly nothing like oreganos.  skip it.

oh, it's also a bit expensive.  medium pizza, side salad, no drinks was $30.  the salad alone was $7 and it was a simple side deal.  not worth the money

not bad on a monday when you are from out of town and not much else is open, or you dont really know where else to go.
Food was ok, server was solo, and seemed hardworking. Judging by the reviews of this and other pizza places in flagstaff, I would have looked elsewhere.

I can't laugh too hard about the situation, as it was just yesterday, but some basics:
    *our waitress had no shoes
*I know about how long all of the waitresses have been working there, whose boyfriend is back in town, who allows friends and other random visitors into the kitchen when on shift, who has a second job, who's worked with who and on what shifts, that two dollars is an unacceptable tip (it WAS on a 40 dollar bill, but the insult was hurled at the exiting customer as I stood at the counter to pay, nonetheless. Apparently, he wasn't so hot on the service either, and it's no wonder--I think that not insulting customers in front of other customers is sort of a touchstone of waitressing)
*None of these things would have bothered me had I a) gotten a refill on my iced tea, b) been apologized to about a 45-minute wait on two sandwiches, c) received a piping hot, delicious meatball sandwich in return. Instead, the waitresses, who had to pass my station to get to the kitchen, did just that, AVOIDING making eye contact the whole time(our order went in and came out at the same time as a table of 5 who ordered calzones). The confusion may have been caused by the fact that Sally-no-shoes, who had an awesome time at the river yesterday, btw, and took my order, wasn't actually working at the time she took my order. What she was doing there was alternating between distracting anyone who was and receiving hippy visitors. I really hope she's the owner, but I sort of doubt it.
*From what I saw, however, those girls can change a trash can liner like nobody's business. Actually, even taking out a total of 2 trash bags seemed to take them 20+ minutes. Yeah, I had time to notice, since my friend was still eating her (also cold) sandwich. Thanks for prompting me to prove a point mid day trip, Alpine Pizza.
*The newish college girl waitress who came to work in training pants and a baby tee is a total snob. I liked no-shoes much better.
*I hate to kick a dead horse, but one last thing--prices were not so good. The 9-dollar sandwiches are a joke/microwaved and hotplated till the waitresses feel like it. Perhaps calzones and pizza are better, but they came out looking like doughy monstrosities, nothing original or delicious. Too bad I chose this place, perhaps there was a reason I was able to find parking so close by. : )

First things first - the pizza at this place was *terrible.* And I mean terrible, especially for a place that has "pizza" in its name. How do they get away with it? I'm not even a pizza snob (I'm from phoenix, not the east coast, after all) and I could barely stomach it after a 2-hour car ride AND knowing I was about to do some serious drinking that night and I needed food in my belly.
It reminded me of that barely-cooked dough, waxy-cheese pizza you'd get in 3rd grade at the school cafeteria.
However, they did have pitchers and imported beer bottles for relatively cheap (i.e., about $4). It was right in the mix of the downtown action, and the interior had a relatively interesting old west/log cabin feel. There seemed to be two separate dining areas, the one we sat in had about six two-person "booths." It was actually all wood seating that was tiny, cramped and slightly slanted - it kind of felt like you were about to fall out the whole time. I didn't see the other dining area, I'm guess it has larger tables - we saw a gaggle of high school students pile in and then heard them rocking karaoke.
The service was decent, our waitress friendly enough, and although she forgot a beer request a couple of times she meant well and seemed busy manning the counter/phone orders also on a Friday night.
So, I would not eat the pizza here again, but would stop in for a nearby beer if in the area.

Two visits to Alpine Pizza and both deserve a very good review, but I will combine them here. Fresh Pizza, hand streched dough, flavorful sauce, cooked just to the point of crisp and melted cheese. First time we tried an "everthing on it" and  the second visit, order sausage, jalapeno and onion . Though months apart both visits included; good service, easy seating (no wait), quick cook time in the kitchen and a delicious product. They have a jukebox that the "kids" were playing some punk and 80's new wave, which makes me a little nostalgic. The business has been open since the 70's and have the initals of early, and more current patrons, carved into the walls and booths to prove it. A fun atmosphere that includes one pool table to go along with the pizza and pitchers of beer, great combination.

i contemplated a two star rating, cuz i must say that this place did *sorta* curb my pizza crave.  partially by being similar to pizza and partially by making me want to avoid pizza for awhile, which is a SAD day, cuz i love a good slice o' pie, but good, cuz i'm a fatty who could definitely use some time layin off the cheesy goodness that is NORMALLY pizza by definition.

    here is my story.

up in flag, on a mission with some guys from my unit.  second night in town.  ally is CRAVING pizza and the night prior we passed a couple of interesting looking pizza joints.  solution, lets go walk around til we hit a decent looking place, scarf a few slices and then head somewhere for the ufc fight (and omfg, i am not a ufc fan, but did you SEE that fuckin knock out punch from evans?!?!).  moving on, we see alpine pizza.  success, we have discovered a pizza joint.  the crowd outside was a momentary cause for concern...are we gonna have to wait a long time for food?  sadly, we ignored this and walked inside...to an empty restaurant...this should have been an indicator.  but ALLY HUNGRY!  our waitress...she looked twelve, came to take our drink order like...fifteen minutes after we got there...we order a pitcher of beer for two of the guys, a soda for me and the other dude.  they came out in chunks.  first one soda, then another, then some cups and the pitcher.  i had no issues with my soda...oh, that's right, cuz i LOVE flat sodas.  the other guys i was with complained that their cups stank.  i know, i know...how is a cup stinky...the question that has baffled nations.  well, the answer is hidden somewhere in the back of alpine pizza.

next, we order a pie to split between three of us and the odd man out ordered a calzone since he doesn't like places where he has to think up his own flavor combination...silly, i know, but it actually does have merit when you think about it.  every pizza place should have more than two specialty pizzas, even if they list a hawaiian as an option.  the pie was *eh* we got half mushroom and canadian bacon and half canadian bacon and pineapple...well, we ORDERED that...we got two slices with mushrooms, two with pineapple AND mushrooms and the rest with pineapple.  not a problem if you are me, but if you hate "fungus", like one of my party, you have issues with this pizza.  the "meat" tasted like the ham in a ham'n'cheese hot pocket.  not a flavorful and exciting taste memory...trust me, i endured it.  decent size pie tho.  the calzone was HUGE and apparently rated an "okay".

the waitress dropped off our check after ignoring our need for refills for the ENTIRE meal and didn't tell us where to pay, so after about ten minutes of her avoiding us trying to make eye contact we had to go up front to do a quick recon of the situation.  you pay at the counter?!  that's good to know.  we got out quickly and went to stand outside of a buffalo wild wings to watch the fight.  the incredibly drunk guy chain smoking next to us was more friendly and informative than our waitress.  must say, i will not return to alpine pizza.
