If you are looking for the worst motel in the San Juan mountains, look no further! This place is truly exceptional. The owner has perfected the art of insulting his guests. It's clear he does not want anyone to stay there, a goal that is reflected in the quality of the accommodations. We arrived on a Saturday night, having made reservations weeks earlier. Every other place in town require a week stay or was booked. On arrival, we were told that our reservation had been for Friday. Disagreements ensued, the owner stared us down and eventually let us stay that night. He was quite determined to force us to admit that we were trying to scam him by showing up on Saturday rather than Friday. He could have said "Well, no worries, we have plenty of room for you tonight." But instead we got "I don't make mistakes!"

Then we made the biggest mistake of the day; we actually stayed there. The rooms are decorated in retro...no wait, that's not retro! That's actually a television with a *knob*, and a 70s era table and vinyl chairs and hanging lamp. And the mattress was so old and sunken that it curled up on the corners like a piece of fried ham. The shower curtain was hung with hooks that won't slide along the rod, the h/c faucets are reversed (and mislabeled at the sink), and you get a nice view of the parking lot through the window in the shower. Everyone in the parking lot gets to watch you wash your hair. At night, the deck that runs outside of all the rooms is lit with Christmas lights, and the curtains are thin, so the rooms are well lit all night. The walls are paper-thin. The bedspreads have predictable stains that remind you they probably have never been washed.

I gotta say, though, that there were no terrible smells, and the carpets seemed newer (younger than beds anyway). At about $80, this place is no bargain, and is a shelter of last resort.
