Absolutely in love with this beautiful little wine shop from the moment I first walked in and She's So Heavy was playing over the speakers.  They'll take your name if you're a regular and be able to see what you've purchased in the past and make suitable suggestions for your ever-developing palate.

The tasting are consistently incredible, with representative of vineyards often on hand, even from places as far and wide as South Africa.  I've always been pleased with the wine I buy here and am often complimented on what I bring to parties despite having an admittedly limited knowledge of wine.

Highly recommended if you're in the neighborhood.  You will definitely find what you are looking for here and you'll be happy you walked in.

This is absolutely hands-down the best wine shop in the city.  And I mean that, no hyperbole here.

Unpretentious store with helpful, friendly staff,  Extensive collection of eclectic finds at price points that won't break your budget.  And they give my pup a doggie treat when I bring her in.

Can't remember what you drank last week/last month/last year?  No problem:  they'll store your purchases in their computer so you don't have to struggle to recollect that viognier you opened back in April.  Just walk in and say "I'll have another!"

I love Alphabet Wines.  Seriously worth the shlep to Ave C.  You need to walk the dog anyway, so why not take pooch to the wine shop?  He gets a treat, you get a treat, everyone's happy.

"WINE TO THE PEOPLE" is the mantra of ABC Wine Co. and with good reason.  Keith Beavers the owner has dedicated his life to making this a mainstream movement and is well reflected in his wine store.

The concept here is high quality, small production, non-commercial branded wines all in the $10-20 dollar range.   You are NOT going to find that Yellowtail or Kendal Jackson grocery store level brand crap here ever!!  and rightfully so.
Keith hand selects every bottle and assures it meets his own personal standard before it ever hits the shelf.  He personally explains each bottle: terroir, varietal composition and regional history and will take the time to help patrons make the correct selection in their price point.

Keith sponsors free tastings on Fridays and Saturdays which he encourages people to come in to try new wines, learn about wines and have fun in the process.   His store has a fantastic selection with a cool, fun inviting vibe and a lounge area where you can come in kick your feet-up and chill-out to eclectic tunes played on his 1975 stereo.

Those days of typical stuffy, obnoxious, pretentious wine store owners overselling you their commercial brands with 'MUSAC" in the back ground whilst pushing you out the door are  "dying on the vine".   Keith and ABC Wine Co. is the new generation of knowledgeable, cool, "hispster-esque" wine geeks leading the movement which is "WINE TO THE PEOPLE".

Much like the amplifier in Spinal Tap...."It goes to 11"

Alphabet City Wine Co. is a really unique shop with amazing wines.
Stop by here and grab a drink and take a stroll through St. Marks or even a nice walk through the Village. One of the many things this city gives us.
Alphabet City is a very chill wine spot with a wide array of wines for any occasion. They have wines of all prices to very cheap to expensive ones.
Alphabet City Wine Co. is a great shop for the local shops and New Yorkers.

Alphabet City Wines has gotten a lot of good press recently; this is well-warranted as it is one of the few stores that really tries to de-mystify wine and make it more accessible.

I will commend the the salesperson Keith who led me through the flight of wines that they were tasting that afternoon. Imagine Henry Rollins talking to you about wines, but with the infectious enthusiasm of John Cusack's character in High Fidelity. He went into detail about why Italian aglianico had such a mineral taste for a red wine (hint: it's the volcanic soil) and the history of pinot noir development in Italy (which traditionally skews towards nebbiolo or sangiovese in their production). Keith was well-informed and eager to educate; if you ask for him, it's Keith as in Sweat, not Richards.

Service notwithstanding, their selection is rather limited with only a few producers for each region. Alphabet sets up their wines in bookcases with what appeared to be lengthy tomes about wine production in the regions the wines were from; upon closer inspection, they were merely stickers placed on the spines of such quality books as "Home Auto Repair" and "Child Psychology."

great place for wine, even better place just to hang out & learn from the East Village Wine Geek himself Keith Beavers. Excellent selection of wines, including some exceptional South African wines. Stopped by last night to grab a quick bottle for the night and 3 hours later yadda yadda yadda I left with some great wines. It was amazing to be able to meet & talk with the winemaker of Botanica Chenin Blanc & Big Flower Cab.

Small, intimate wine store that distances itself from all the others in the area with its great selection, competitive prices, and friendly and very knowledgeable staff.

I have been here a few times and every time I walk in I am greeted with a smile and a warm welcome.  If you happen to stop by during a wine tasting, consider yourself lucky, it is a fun atmosphere and the food they will be serving with the wine is incredible.

I felt like I was walking into a friend's home rather than a store.  All around, it is a great experience.

    FINALLY!!!!
Great addition to the neighborhood.  Just what it needed.  I love wine, love to drink wine, drink a lot of wine (Hello my name is Kevin and I'm an alcoholic), but don't know much about it and when I go to a wine shop I want recommendations from knowledgeable, friendly staff.  The neighborhood didn't have many places to go (at least this deep in Alphabet City).

This shop has a great selection of wine with friendly, very knowledgeable staff.  Prices range for less than $10 ($5/$6ish) to expensive.  I asked for a recommendation, ended up with a great Cab and they didn't try to push an expensive bottle on me.  They may begin tastings soon.  They're also open late, 'till 11 on Fri/Sat and 10 other days.

In summary:  PERFECT place for anyone looking for a great bottle of wine in the neighborhood

Really unique wine selection in a classy set-up (wood shelves, leather chairs). The guy working there while I was there was very chill. I was a bit confused by how the wines were organized, but I appreciated the consistent price labeling. Calm atmosphere. I'll be back!

He also mentioned there are free wine tastings from 6-9 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Back in the day good wine shops were stodgy affairs, and those that weren't generally weren't good wine shops.  That changed a while ago, but many of the most approachable wine shops still retain a whiff of aloofness.  There remains at least the pretense of wine being a rarefied world where a certain decorum is expected to be maintained.  It's tiresome.

So it's refreshing to walk into a place like Alphabet City Wine Company and be called "dude", as if I were walking into a second hand guitar store, a surf shop or a skate shop.  Then it's doubly refreshing to see that the charmingly scruffy staff have managed to stock the place with good, interesting wines, with the inexpensive well-represented.

The East Village artist vibe of the place, coupled with a standout selection, makes this little shop a winner.  Sure, there are some places in town that can beat them on selection.  There are places that can beat them on price.  But put their selection, price and VIBE together make this nearly a five star wine shop.  I'll give them five.

Very cute shop with lots of variety. They have really nice wines, as well as cheaper options for when you just want something casual to cook with that will also taste good with dinner. Tastings are super casual and fun. A great shop to have in the neighborhood!

A great new addition to Avenue C.  The guys who work there are friendly and know their stuff - but are not stuck up or overly eager to make a sale.  Nice selection of affordable wines (most in range of $10-20).  The interior design is pretty cool too and very cozy (old couches, rugs, etc.)  - we almost wanted to pop open our bottle and stay a while!  Apparently, the owners of Alphabet City Wine Co. also own and operate In Vino - a tasty little wine bar and restaurant on East 4th Street.

Friendly and knowledgeable service.  A great selection that is not overwhelming.  And a good mix of both the expensive and not so expensive (yet still quality) wines.  The added bonus of being so close to where I live definitely puts it over the top.

This is my favorite wine store in the city.  Its small and the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable.  They have a great variety of carefully picked wines and I trust that whatever made their store is probably good.  More importantly, they are really reasonably priced and you can always get a good bottle for under $15.

when i was looking into the window of alphabet city wine company, i laughed when i saw that there were a couple of star wars books on display. i knew that whoever ran the store that ran the store would be down to earth.

Besides having a wide variety of wines from all over, employees that are extremely knowledgeable/helpful and a location that's flawless they have wines for every budget.  I've never had a bad wine experience at any price level. They are so friendly and helpful without being pretentious or snobby.  I'm glad to have them in the neighborhood.   I can't say enough about this place!
