San Diego, CA
Amazing! I had an awesome experience at this gem of a winery.
I have long avoided AO, not out of distrust of their products, but because I heard that tastings were $45. Well I'm glad to be proven wrong as they are in fact $20. I did not have to pay for my tasting as I came with some industry friends, although I wouldn't mind paying the allotted price if I had to.
The wines were great. Their chardonnay was as buttery as I like a chardonnay to be. The real winner of the day was the special wine we were allowed to taste. I'm afraid I cannot remember it's name, but it was still in the barrel. For a wine not ready for production it was simply amazing. I have never had a wine of a barrel that tasted as amazing as that one did.
Our server was very down to earth and friendly; very personable and not stuck up in the slightest.
The property was very nice as well. I would not mind spending the day by their fountains drinking wine. -
Review from Judy C.
On a nice day, Alpha Omega is easily one of my favorite places to visit in wine country. There's an outdoor seating area where you can sit and look out at a fountain, the hwy, the wine train, and the mountains. For $20, you get to taste 4-5 excellent "Bordeaux style" wines - about half whites and half reds. Given the retail price of the wines, the tasting is a great way to check out some high-end wines, and if you like it, you can get the tasting fee waived by buying a bottle.
The staff is also really nice and are for the most part, attentive even if it gets busy. That's really how they got us to join the wine club in the first place. We were capping off a day in Napa by making Alpha Omega our last stop. Walking in on a Saturday afternoon in Spring, it was so boisterous we felt like we had walked into a lounge in SF. Because there was no space at the counter, we set up shop at one of the bar tables on the side. However, despite how busy it was, one of the guys (can't remember his name anymore) took the time to really talk to us, check in frequently, give us bonus pours & coupons for free tastings to other places. It might've been the extra pours of the Proprietary red affecting our judgment, but we were sold.
The wine club for Alpha Omega is nice since you get 20% off some expensive wines and free tastings for up to 4 people each time you're there. The free tastings are pretty standard across Napa, but if you're a wine club member, they'll usually try to take you to the back for some barrel tastings. I'll admit, it's probably just smart marketing move on their part to get people to buy more wine with barrel tastings and extra drinks, but who am I to turn down extra wine? The two downsides to the wine club are 1) the wines are still expensive and you've committed to buying a couple bottles every two months 2) you don't get any additional discounts off of their absolutely delicious, but pricey limited release wines.
It's amazing to see Alpha Omega be the success it is. Years ago, it was a fledgling winery and in a much smaller building. Fast forward 6 years - the people pouring wines at several of the other wineries we visited all call Alpha Omega one of their favorites. -
Review from Kathy A.
We just randomly picked this winery as a stop off of the Napa Highway and had a lovely experience. The location itself is gorgeous and the staff and wine are great too!
We first just walked the outside grounds where they have a large fountain looking out into the hills and vines. They have a nice picnic area open to the public and ample outdoor seating.
The tasting room is quite modern and chic. For $20 they do a tasting flight of 4 wines but waive the fee if you buy a bottle. The day we went they had two Chardonnays and two red blends. The staff member helping us was very nice and even offered to let us try a few others. All four of the wines were great but we went with one of the reds.
Whether you are just looking for a scenic stop or good wine make sure to pull off the highway for AO winery. -

Life doesn't get much better than sitting on the outdoor patio tasting wine on a warm day. I thought this winery would be stuffy but found the staff and atmosphere to be very nice and very relaxed. No one rushed us, the fountain is beautiful. There is a separate picnic area if you want to bring lunch. A little bit of a bummer that you can't eat on the patio but I understand they get busy and need the space.
The wines were great. I even liked the chardonnay which is typically my least favorite wine. The late harvest is fantastic.
All in all, a terrific experience. -

Interesting selection of wines, just a few wines, as they claimed to be like gourmet wines, only local is sold. A bit expensive 20dls taste but, buying a bottle offsets the cost. Plus they really spend time to talk a bit about the wines.

It's hard to write this because as far as service and knowledge go the people here are great. They know their wine, the know their product and the patio is lovely. But, at the end of the day, they are overpriced and over rated in my book. Again, just in my book. It's nice for a tasting, but for the price per bottle you can create a collection of just as nice wines from a variety of other vineyards.

Alpha Omega Winery is definitely the best way to end a day of wine tasting. Nothing could be more perfect than enjoying a glass of wine as the sun sets while lounging around their outdoor patio with reflection pool.
The 2009 chardonnay was probably the best chardonnay I had. I'm not a big fan of buttery chards. AO's was more crisp, and I simply was blown away by the floral notes of jasmine.
One of Napa's newest winery, Alpha Omega's wines are the smoothest I've tasted. For such a young winery, they've managed to create a time-less classic combining new and old world techniques. -

I couldn't find a coupon for this place at all, but since so many people had recommended it, we decided to try it. I thought it was worth it, my husband is still on the fence. $20 a tasting for 5 Bordeaux style wines....definitely worth the tasting considering the wines all started at $35 + a bottle.
I LOVED their chardonnays, and a couple of their reds, but overall, their price range does seem a little high. The one chardonnay that I would have bought a case of had to be priced at $58 a bottle, which is not for everyday for us!
We came around 3pm and it was super busy - no room on the patio so we settled for inside. We got Joe as our pourer, and he was great! Great conversation, struck a balance of still talking to us while he made time for others, and even poured us a reserve of something off the menu. I would recommend coming back here - but try to get the patio if you can and it's a nice day...it's just so beautiful out there!
Ask for Joe - he was a blast :) -

One of our favorite wineries on our tour of Napa and my husband's #1 pick!
We ended up here simply because we drove by it and it's beauty caught our eye. The grounds and tasting room are large and lovely. We opted to stay outside and enjoy the beautiful landscapes, water fountains and relaxed couch seating while we tasted, which was a total bonus.
Bob served us during our shared $20 tasting which included whites and reds. This made me happy as I drink white and E drinks red. Bob was really informed and provided us with lots of details about wine making, grape growing and other notable facts.
AO is definitely not a stop to missed. It's classy, the wines are incredible and the view is breathtaking! -

Easily the best stop of the trip and the best wine of the trip for both the first and second visit.
The tasting room is very modern with a clean decor that makes clear that the experience is going to be focused on the wine. The outdoors area is perfect for groups and would be killer for a picnic. Very scenic location.
Steven was a killer host and gave detailed background on Alpha Omega's history and wine-making methodology. He did very well at tailoring his comments to our level of understanding. Since the bottles are a bit of a commitment, we wanted to look around a bit more before making a decision, but it was pretty clear by the end of the day that Alpha Omega's stuff was leagues above the other wines we tried.
The tasting will vary based on what they have open. It seems to consist of two whites, two reds, and then other reds that are open. Since we went twice we got to try a very good amount of wine and a barrel taste of their cab.
---
Tasting Notes:
Sav Blanc: Clean citrus, grapefruit, very light and a great way to start off a tasting. Purchased 1.
Chardonnay: One of the most interesting wines of the trip, it has a very unique caramel popcorn taste on the finish that stays for a long time. It's a head-turner. Purchased 1.
Proprietary Red 2008: Really good stuff. This is the wine that brought me here, it's red fruit, very complex. Extremely long finish.
Cabernet 2009: Very elegant cab. Easily accessible and really good for what it is.
Era 2009: Alpha Omega's flagship wine, Era is an incredible wine. My partner in crime described it as "the perfect wine" and I'd have to agree. This is basically everything I look for in a red. Cellartracker will have tasting notes, but this is by far and away their best wine. Purchased a 3 bottle case. Luckily it is sealed shut with a screwdriver, so it has some hope of lasting for as long as I would like to keep it (3 year revisits for each bottle).
Single Vineyard Cabs:
We had three or four single vineyard cabs, all of them were extremely unique and different versions of what a cab could be. Amazing. I ended up getting a bottle of Stagecoach 2009 which I plan to keep for a few years and try later.
Cabernet Barrel Tasting 2010 -- Very young cab and a cool experience to try. Intense fruit.
---
Both days we went here early on and both days it was the wine of the day. My advice is not to begin a day here, but to end it here, because it's going to be hard to appreciate everything else if you set Alpha Omega as a benchmark. -

Alpha Omega is a definite stop on your Napa Valley Wine Tour. The estate is pretty with fountains. The tasting is $20 but you can get it waived if you purchase a bottle of wine or join their wine club. You can choose to sit indoor or outdoor (I definitely recommend the outdoor area). I actually liked their Sauvignon Blanc the best.

Nice tasting room, dog friendly, delicious wines, great outdoor patio. The Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2008 is "ridiculous good" and "ridiculous expensive" at $88.00 a bottle. AO will comp your tasting fee if you purchase wine though! Our wine server was nice enough to comp both our fees and he gave us lots of extra pours. We fell for all that good customer service hook line and sinker and left with a bottle. :)
I'm glad we stopped in. I'm more of a Silverado Trail person but this winery is worth coming over to the 29 side of Napa for.Listed in: In Vino Veritas!, I like dogs and I vote.

*The low rating is almost entirely due to poor customer service.
It was a nice Saturday, so instead of shopping, my friend and I decided that we would go wine tasting instead.
Alpha Omega was our second stop, and Oh boy.. how we wish we went somewhere else instead.
First off, we were "greeted" by someone who looked like she'd really rather not be there (maybe it's because of the nice weather...).
When we got in, the person who helped us was impersonal, and we told him it was our first time there, but received no introduction to the winery. He answered our questions as if we were stupid. My friend merely asked how much land they had and whether their wines were estate grown.. were those such bad questions given that it's our first time there???
He then continued to look uninterested and would walk away mid-sentence when we tried to comment on the wines. The tasting room was not particularly busy since they had a waiting list outside, so the person really didn't have a good excuse for that behavior.
Finally, when my friend and I decided not to bring anything with us because we thought we'd had similar (if not better) quality wine elsewhere at lower price point, he said "Oh, burned all your cash today huh??".. Really? that's just unnecessary.. It is not like we didn't pay $20 for the 4 pours of wine they gave us.
This experience really left an exceptionally bitter taste in my mouth and I will not go back there unless I'm made to. -
Review from Darina H.
After a tasting and tour at another winery, my boyfriend and I purchased a picnic lunch. We wanted to try a new winery and possibly get a good wine to have with our lunch. We previously passed by Alpha Omega but stopped this time to have a look and taste. We walked into their establishment and noticed the sleek, modern flare to the tasting room. Impressive.
We asked if we could purchase a glass of wine and picnic outside and they instantly said "No, only tastings or buy a bottle" to sit outside. Not bad considering that some wineries charge for picnics ($25/table). We shared a tasting of 5 wines for $20. Sure why not. This was when my experience at Alpha Omega went downhill. The person that helped us seemed less than interested in talking to us (age discrimination?) since we looked younger than the rest of the 40+ crowd. Just because we're in our late twenties/early thirties does not mean we have not traveled the globe and tasted good wine.
I tried their Chardonnay and it was OKAY. $36/bottle. I asked a few questions about wine (yes, I'm not a wine connoisseur so I will ask questions) yet he was very rude and seemed to have answered my questions like I was stupid. All the other wines were just average and nothing as spectacular as the wine I drink as a member of another winery. We bought a bottle of Chardonnay and took it outside with us to enjoy our picnic. If it wasn't for the view, the fountain, the picnic area, I would not have stayed.
My philosophy is simple. Every single customer should want and feel like they're welcomed instead of a second class customer. No, I'm not a wine member but don't make my experience here the last one. I could have easily spent over $100 here, recommended you on Yelp or Four-Square but decided on one bottle of wine and a lackluster review.
Wine: 7/10
Customer Service: 5/10
Ambiance: 8/10
Alpha Omega will give the Napa Valley vineyards a bad name of their pretentious attitude. The overall feeling I had when leaving this winery was less than stellar and I will tell all my friends to avoid this winery if possible. This is why I enjoy other regions such as Lodi, Amador, El Dorado Hills, and Sonoma...because I feel like I'm respected, appreciated and welcomed. Never again. -
Review from Shanna K.
Well... they're open late and that's a plus... and the fountain and the view are nice.
Otherwise I wasn't all that impressed with the wines or the service. I liked the Sauvignon Blanc... it was softer and less acidic than most.. but otherwise nothing else really stood out for me, not even the barrel tasting of the Era. I felt they were all pretty pricey for what they are, and I'm not afraid of expensive wine.
Service was kind of rushed and somewhat impersonal even though it was a weekday and they were not particularly busy. It just left me a little cold. Nothing particularly offensive, but I don't know that I would return unless friends wanted to go. -

Alpha Omega Winery is one of my favorite wineries up in Napa.
If you're a fan of Chardonnay, they make an outstanding one that is unique and well balanced. If you speak to anyone who has every tried their 2009 Chardonnay, they will tell you that its like nothing they have every tasted. The 2009 Era is amazing out of the barrel. It's smooth and complex all in the same time, but leaving your palate with a memorable experience.
The Proprietary blend is my husband's favorite. He's a huge fan of Cabranet Sauvignon and this particular wine blows a lot of red's out of the water. It's soft, smooth, and rich in density. A wine that is great to drink on its own or to pair with a great meal.
The winery itself is a small production winery. They have a great picnic area and fun events for those who are wine members, which is totally worth becoming! They don't do any cheese and wine pairings, but then again they are honed in on making and producing some of the best wine in Napa Valley.
I've always enjoyed sitting on one of the lounge areas and watching the fountains or picnicking on the grass and soaking up some Napa sun. If you're going to go, I do suggest picking up some yummy food from Dean and Deluca or Bouchon and buying a bottle of wine and enjoying it out on the grass with some friends. -

Went here for our New years day celebration with the family!, the place was packed! since most of the wine tasting lounges are closed for the day. This place was cool, we sampled 4 types of wine. My fave was their Chardonnay. The Host and servers were really nice. This place also has an ourdoor seating which really looked cool. We also tried to look inside the room where the wines were being fermented, and we thought going in there was prohibited, but this nice lady assisted us inside the room. She said that they really wanted people to see what they're doing with their wines unlike other wineries. We saw big metal containers for wines, and one of them was in the process of being chilled. She told us to come back after summer so we could see how they make their wines in action. COOL! definitely gonna be back!

Great wines... I should know, I'm a wine club member. Their wine club events are fantastic! I had the pleasure of meeting Issac at their 2009 Era barrel tasting. He took real good care of us and showed us a wonderful time. I might have accidentally insulted the owner in my drunken state. But he shook it off with class.
Although they're definitely what I would consider a premium-priced winery, many of their bottlings are well worth their prices. Try the late harvest, it's like bottled gold. The color is beautiful and the taste is so smooth.Listed in: Don't "wine" about it... just…

We had a private tasting with 8 girls for my bachelorette party with Adam. I've been to Napa a hand full of times and i've never experienced what I had experienced coming to Alpha Omega! Adam was the best host and not only that, the wine and winery is spectacular. Out of all the wineries we went to that day, Alpha Omega was the best winery we went to. We even got to do a tasting straight from the barrel. That is what I call a true Napa experience!

I'm kind of conflicted. My friend actually brought me back a bottle of wine from here and it was delicious! So I made it a point to stop by when we visited Napa.
The tasting room building is fairly modest, clean and sleek inside and there's a beautiful view outside with a patio area and a pool.
Service was just fine and we did a flight of tastings. However, I didn't like anything enough to bring a bottle home and couldn't figure out what wine I had had previously. -

Definitely one of the best red makers out there in the valley. Loved the wine, but not for the budget minded. Winery itself is beautiful--modern yet rustic (see some of the pics posted by others). Would totally consider having a tasting and bringing a picnic. Tastings are $20, but they are serving you some of the better wines that you can find, especially when there are neighboring wineries that charge the same, for much less quality.
BTW, they also give you complimentary bottled water upon request. -

7 acres of vineyards....that's it? Pricey wine for not growing your own grapes.
More of a "brand" vs. good wine....at least for that price.
Felt like we were being scammed.

The name speaks for itself. Alpha Omega - Sounds classy and sophisticated. They have AO Swag at your disposal for purchase also. This review is based more on the service and personal attention that was provided.
Ask for Eric if you're ever there. He was funny, gave great recommendations and provided little secrets of the wine country. We left with the Cabernet Sauvignon and lots of information that will help with our next visit. Here's to you Eric! Thank you so very much!
*This winery is a bit pricier than your Mondavi or V. Sattui, but they specialize in small production so you know that the wine you're getting gets some TLC. -

Below-average for Napa, and even wineries along the 29 for that matter. The one (and only) thing it has going for it is that it's open later than most tasting rooms in the area, but what does that matter when the wine isn't very good?

Alpha Omega serves up some seriously tasty wine with a gorgeous, relaxing view of the vineyards and fountain.
We bought a few bottles of their delicious Chardonnay on our first trip here, and decided to join the wine club on our most recent trip after not being able to decide which ones we liked best.
After mentioning that we wanted to join the club, they brought us out back to taste straight out of the barrels, it was awesome and sealed the deal.
Their wines are pricey (expect to pay $20 for a tasting and $65 for a good bottle of wine) but it's worth it. -

Pretty tasting room with fountains out front - would be a great place to sit and hang out on a warm summer's day. The wine is a bit spendy but they make in smaller productions.
The day we visited, nothing stood out to me and screamed take me home, so we'll have to come back another day. -
Review from David C.
Was probably one of the most beautiful wineries we saw on our trip. The staff was friendly and attentive, and very knowledgeable about their wine products. The tasting is $20 for five fours. This was probably my favorite winery of the seven we visited. The interior is modern and chic, and the exterior is beautiful. There is a nice patio area that resides right by a gorgeous fountain. The winery is flanked from most sides by their own grow fields.
The wine itself top notch. Easy on the mouth and with extremely robust flavors and balanced acidity. Of the five pours, I liked every single one. Our guide even let us try the late harvest reserve, which was not on the tasting menu. The prices per bottle are steep, but worth their deliciousness (range from 60-100 per bottle). Overall a great tasting experience. They probably sold a bottle of wine every four minutes I was there! -

This winery was just so-so on the experience. The wines that I do recommend from this winery would be their Era or Chardonnay. The Era is their flagship wine, and I must say, it was pretty tasty, but could stand to age a bit *quite quite dry*. The Chardonnay... was liquid creme brulee. slightly sweat, with a creaminess to it. I was a fan. The location was okay, right off the main thorough-fair. The tasting is $20 for a tasting *does not include the Era wine* and the fee is waived if you purchase any of the wines. One thing I did notice is that although they give great service, they are a little less attentive to those who they think may not appreciate their suggestions or insight (my friends and I because of our younger age.) Great place to try some wines. There are nicer places to visit, but this place is great to visit.
Would I come back? Maybe, to grab a bottle of the Chardonnay. -
Review from Mac P.
The wines were okay, but the ambiance made the visit worthwhile. The exterior fountains and couches provided a very nice venue for enjoying a beautiful day in Napa. For the money ($20 per tasting), I typically expect better wine and better service, but in this case the venue created the value.

What a hidden gem! I can't believe I have passed this place countless times and have finally stopped in. We had the BEST syrah here and I usually do not like syrahs. The tasting is a little more expensive than what you'll find in the rest of Napa ($20/person), but if you purchase a bottle of wine, they waive the tasting fee.
I also loved the property itself. There is a nice seating area outside that faces their vineyard and a fancy fountain. It is definitely a good place to kick-off a bachelorette party (we saw one) since the patio has lots of chairs, tables, and if you come later a fire pit in the middle. If you're planning a birthday or bachelorette party or just wine tasting in Napa, you should give this place a try! -

A group of us came here because one of us is a wine club member, which meant free wine tasting for the four of us. The ambiance is nice and the staff very friendly. There is free valet parking when you pull up and a spacious tasting room with bar tables if the tasting bars fill up. Our pourer was super friendly (I wish I could remember his name) and very attentive. He even let us do a barrel tasting of the ERA and allowed us to taste a couple of additional wines that weren't on the menu--our friend was due to get them in her shipment next month so he allowed us to taste them.
HOWEVER, I found that I only enjoyed about 3 of the 7 wines we tasted. The others were mediocre. And the wine tasting is $20 for four wines. FOUR. I'm glad my friend's membership was able to get us free tastings, because I would not spend $20 to taste only four wines. And I understand that this is Napa, where wineries are overpriced in their tasting rooms and take advantage of tourists. But I'm a local, and I know better. I'll stick to Livermore wineries.
Our biggest disappointment was that my friend (the wine club member) had been told in the past that she and her guests could use the outdoor patio and picnic area to enjoy some wine and have lunch. We brought sandwiches to enjoy in the picnic area on a beautiful day but were told that it was closed off for a wine club event. FAIL. -

This was my limo group's fourth winery of the day. We had our lunch box from the limo and used Alpha Omega's nice picnic area. After our lunch, our group was served in a private room. We did the 4 tastings for $20. Our server was friendly and the wines were good. I liked the wine with the bubblegum, I don't remember what that was though.

After a couple of "bummer, man!" tastings, Alpha Omega lived up to its fancy-pants grounds and prices. Whew!
Our server, John, was GREAT! He had the coolest voice - sorta quiet and husky, actually reminded us all of Paul Giamatti in Sideways... He was super friendly and knowledgeable. And with that voice, I could have listened to him talk all day. Maybe my other tasting experiences would have been better if we'd tossed John in the trunk and brought him with us?? Hmmm.
Anyway, we tried:
Chardonnay (SB was sold out) - was pretty good, but I prefer my chardonnay unoaked. Bring on that steel barrel taste! This was surprisingly buttery in scent and taste too.
Rose - I'm not a big fan of Roses, and this was pretty much what I expected. Not terrible though.
Cabernet Sauvignon - wowee! good stuff here, and it should be, for $74 a bottle! Nice and complex.
Proprietary Red - another wowee! I could see myself sipping this curled up in a comfy chair, by a crackling fire, snow falling softly outside... but I digress. We bought a bottle of this to give as a gift. My wallet hurts as a result, so they better like it!
Like I mentioned above, the grounds are fancy, also pretty new. Big fountain out front. See the pretty picture I posted. They've got a nice patio overlooking said fountain with comfy chairs and chaises too.
Alpha Omega is definitely worth your time amongst the 400-some odd wineries in this valley.
