Came here with my dad, brother, and his girlfriend as the last meal of our yearly ski trip. As our family is Swiss, we came in with pretty high expectations for quality German/Austrian food. And it did not disappoint! The service was outstanding, very quick and friendly. The owner even came out towards the end of the meal and we made sure to tell them it was one of the best authentic european meals we have had. I had the jaegerschnitzel, brother the wiernerschnitzel, his g/f the goulash, and my dad the kafeplate (unsure on spelling, but its beef tips with cheese, etc).
We ended the meal with a cherry pie with whipped cream, and we were all left extremely satisfied and vowing to come back the next time we are in Vail. In one word - fantastic! -

We had a great dinner here last week while visiting Vail. Our server was really nice and gave us a couple of pints for free when the taps weren't woking.
Very cozy atmosphere and delicious eastern europe fare. I had the Käsespätzle with wiener and it was so tasty and comforting after a day of skiing.
Non-pretentious and very friendly. Thank you! -

Austrian food, Austrian atmosphere (cowbells, wooden benches, white linen curtains), Austrian efficiency. This is about as close to Old Europe as you can get in Vail.
The food was solid -- great duck with lingonberries, jagerschnitzel, wienerschnitzel, panko crusted lamb chops. Wine list pretty extensive. A few things that don't belong on the menu (shrimp cocktail, really?) but otherwise a nice selection of appetizers, entrees, and a case of wonderful desserts.
Also, the service was outstanding. The waiters seemed genuinely happy to be there, offer their tips, and chat when engaged. -

Good service and we really enjoyed the Osso bucco gremolata which pair very well with the Alexander valley wine (which you can order by the glass as well (-: ).

Came here for our final dinner in Vail and I loved it -- if only i went here sooner bc I would have went back again and again.
Get the duck. Get the cheesecake.
They have the BEST cheesecake EVER. It was light and smooth... just perfect.
The crispy duck -- it has got to be one of the best duck entrees I've had as well. It was served with a side of lingonberry sauce and spatzel. The combination of the sauce w/ the duck was just wonderful.
Great lively atmopshere. Staff members were friendly and the live accordian music made it quite festive.Listed in: Top Everything, My Faves

We were in the mood for some German fare and stumbled upon Alpenrose. My husband loves bratwurst with sauerkraut and really enjoyed his meal. It rivaled what he has eaten in Germany. I ordered the open-faced reuben, which was very tasty. The meals came with pickled cabbage and cucumber, which was a nice complement to the rich brats and reuben. Service was friendly, and the ambience was cozy.

Great german restaurant at the West entrance to Vail Village.
Even with a table of 8, we were seated promptly. Various people at the table had spinach salad, jagerschnitzel, wienerschnitzel and roast duck. Everyone agreed the food was delicious.
For dessert we tried everything from black forest cake and chocolate mousse cake to pastries and ice cream.
There was even a piano player on the patio!
Definitely a place to try on your next trip to Vail. -

This place deserves a 5-Star review. Every single time I come here, regardless of the season or the day I am treated like royalty and leave feeling like I have spent far less than my experience (and fullness) were worth.
Between the Beer and Brat Special and the Farmer's plate, I don't know what else you could want from a Bavarian/Alpine Apres-Ski experience. The cold tall beer mugs and the hot spiced wines are magically refreshing after a long day exploring Vail or Beaver.
Make sure you sit outside during the summer, it is so beautiful and relaxing. Hell- I suggest making a show of just how relaxed you can be on that patio, you will be surprised to find that no matter how much you luxuriate yourself on those chairs- it's never quite an act.
Farmer's plate - Check
Veal Brat and wonderful sauerkraut - Check
Refreshing Pilsner or Hefeweizen - CHECK CHECK

Good, authentic German food. I enjoyed a large mixed salad and my boyfriend got the goulash, and liked it as well. They apfelstrudel was pretty good - looked like a lot of their pastries were tasty.

Chicken vegetable soup was truly homemade! I had the garden salad which was very fresh and delicious. My husband had wienerschnitzel and really enjoyed it. I must say that I am not a fan of German food but this was the best German style restaurant I have ever been to. Great wine list, cozy cheerful ambiance, cheerful staff!

Very good food and quite cheap for the neighborhood. The salad was excellent as was the croissant sandwich my wife had. Highly recommended. Beers were very good too.

Friendly owner serves up some good black forest and chocolate mousse cakes. Be aware that prices are a bit rich ($8.50 / slice)

Service is slow during lunch hours. Seared salmon looks and feels small, but is filling. The bratwurst is good.

We had a great dining experience on a busy night at Alpenrose. The host took our last-minute reservation and squeezed us in. That's always a good sign. They want your business. We were seated at a nice table upstairs and were greeted by a friendly waiter, who was knowledgable and efficient. The owner came by at least twice during our meal, ensuring everything was OK. The menu is traditional German/Austrian. We had five orders of weinerschnitzel and spatzl, preceded by excellent French Onion soup, Brie, dinner rolls salads and fine German pilsners. Everything came out right on time and hot. Alpenrose has a new Belgian pastry chef, so we had to try the apple strudel which was very good, but unfortunately, served cold out of the refrigerator. We have been to Pepi's, the main (German/Austrian) competitor of Alpenrose. I'd say we like Alpenrose more all around, but Pepi's struedel was tops.

We brought a group of nine here last night for dinner and had an absolutely perfect meal. The food was delicious -- our group had everything from schnitzel to veal chop to lobster pasta to filet mignon. I had a caesar salad -- totally fresh and crisp with homemade croutons. The waitstaff are both warm and on their toes; they made sure that our large and diverse group's needs were attended to. The location is perfect -- in the middle of Vail Village -- wish we could have lingered longer. At a place like Vail, you always worry that the good places are overrated -- not the case here as this place is so authentically wonderful and real. Alpenrose is #1 rated Vail restaurant on http://tripadvisor.com and should be here as well!
