I came here today for the driving range.  I was disappointed to learn that the pro shop does not accept credit cards.  What kind of golf course does not accept credit cards?  What if I were paying for 4 green fees, and a new bag and new golf balls, which would total more than $300?  It's just bad customer service.

Also, when I arrived around 10am (on a Thursday), the place was packed.  It looks like this is the place to be if you enjoy 6+ hour rounds.

The golf course is nothing spectacular as the layout is pretty flat overall.  For it being a County course, the property is nice though because it features a regulation 18-hole course and also a Par 3 18-hole course.  The courses themselves are a great place to get in some good practice rounds and to work on your game without the high price tags of some other local courses in and around the South Bay.

My main purpose for visiting Alondra is to utilize the practice facility.  I like it because it is fairly close to my house and it features a driving range (lighted at night), multiple large putting greens, and also a short game area for chipping, pitching, and bunker practice.  The range is nothing fancy, it is off of mats and the range balls are usually always in good condition (not all beat up, dirty, or bald like other ranges.)  The short game area does require you to bring your own golf balls to practice (you cannot use the Alondra range balls)

If you have not been to Alondra before, I hope this review helps you and some expectations.

As random as golf in Lawndale is, Alondra offers nice courses.  I usually just play the Par 3, as the price and wait are both next to nothing.  There aren't many hazards, and the course is completely flat, but it offers some good practice.

I think this place is a little over priced and needs a make over. the driving range mats really need to go and they need better deals with the range balls.

There are, however, plenty of mats to get your practice swing on. the practice greens are well maintained and tricky. they currently have 3. one of which is a chipping green and the other one is under constriction.

Other times that I've been there, the workers didn't really seem to care much for what your needs were. They were also not very helpful for new golfers. I took one of my friends here who is a first timer and we tried to help him out on what clubs to use and such.

5 stars for nostalga.  My buddy I went here last week to play a round on the par 3 course.  It was only 13 bucks and it was fun!

Alondra is home base where I learned to love golf.  We use to play there all the time because it was cheap, and close to home.  There arent many challenging holes example: no water hazards, minimal sand traps etc.  Most holes are around 130 yards or so.  Always a fun time.  I came within 7 inches of getting a hole in one.  My buddy and I have a running bet going.  Whoever gets a hole in one gets 50 bucks from the other one.  I came damn close and was super excited!  Anyways.......if you need a cheap course, thats never too crowded, head down here and have some fun!  Its a great course!

A nice little place to play on the weekdays. Whenever I play here, weekday during the daytime, I never have a long wait to get a tee time. I'm not sure how busy it gets on the weekends. From what I heard, pretty bad. It's a muni, so I don't expect much. The starter and the person in pro shop all seemed to be in bad moods there. But that's okay, it's a muni in the South Bay, don't expect great things.

Now for the golf...you know this course (the regulation course) was kinda fun to play. It had a little bit of everything. Extra long Par 4's, drivable Par 4 and interesting Par 5's. The Par 3's here ranged from unreachable to short but fun. There was a little something for everyone here. Fun but challenging, like my dates. Word of caution, like most golf courses in the South Bay, the afternoon ocean winds kick in really hard in the afternoon. You might be playing into some really hard winds. If you're not long, you may be teeing off with nothing but driver for the whole round.

One issue I have with the course is that it carries water badly. I once played there after a day when it rained. And despite the hot weather of the present day, the course was still soaked with water. So for a full round of golf, I walked through basically miles and miles of sludge. I felt liked I walked 36 holes. So it looks like major irrigation problems there. But it's a muni, don't expect Augusta National. Still, nice course, fun holes, good challenge.

eh ... I mean .... on a better day maybe - MAYBE - 3 stars. but I called ahead and was told it was pretty empty, and that twilight fees were like $16 (cart included). I show up and there's NO cart, they guy at the front says "sorry bra, that's an extra $24, bra" so I pay it. I get to the first tee (which wasn't marked/labeled" and there's a line of about 12 people.

Plus, it was a windy day (the golf ball fell off my tee a few times), and it was cold and the play was so slow we couldn't get past the 15th tee ... but on the good side ..

Twilight fee is really not that bad, and totally reasonable. Just don't cart it. Walk it. It's not a terribly long course. There is no out of bounds, so you can spray your shots all over the place and keep playing. No water, not much sand, and some good dog legs.

I would play there again, just on a nicer day next time.

This review is for the Alondra par 71 golf course.  They also have a par 54 - 18 hole short course at the same location.

Alondra is your typical Municipal golf course.  Long enough to actually merit taking a cart, although many people decide to walk the course.  Most of the course is pretty flat. Longer hitters will be hitting Driver - Wedge most of the day, although they do have 3 par 5 holes that merit pulling out the 3 or fairway wood.  Greens are a little bit bumpy, and don't have much break.  Like a lot of public courses, the layout is geared towards maximum drainage from the greens.  This results in elevated greens that look like mounds, requiring accurate approach shots.

The course can get pretty crowded on weekends, so expect a 5+hour round.

Prices - $25 green fee on weekday, $12.50 for the cart.  CASH ONLY.

This place is great for it's price. $25 for 18 holes and $15 for a rental set.  It was a pretty bad rental set but I shot better than I did with my $1000 set of clubs.

As for some negatives, one thing is that it's hard to tell where the fairway ends and the rough begins.  It's pretty much all the same length of grass when I was there.  Makes it easier I guess.  Also on the 15th or 16th hole I was walking along and saw what looked like 2-3 dead baby possums off the fairway.

I really enjoy playing here. This is my home course. The par 3 moves quickly and it has a real relaxed feel. I never feel rushed or pressure from a group that is trailing. I have also played the full course here. Most of the fairway are very open. It has no water hazards which makes it very difficult to lose balls.

basic 3 par course.  I hate the Drainage ditches in the middle of the fairways.  I think its around hole 7 or 8 you are required to cross the fairway of hole 4 on directly in the path of the hole....been hit with several balls with 'fore' very late after I was hit.  BEWARE!  Also don't feed the squirrels.  They will then follow you, distract you and attack your golf bag in mass looking for food.  ya, they crawl into your bag!

basic range.  where do all the rubber tees disappear to?  busy but cheap.  I really like the putting range.

Pretty good golf course off the freeway.  I haven't played the 18 hole here yet, at least not until I get better at golf, but I've came here a few times for the driving range.

The range is fairly small, but usually free enough for me to practice.  Buy the coin at the clubhouse and a tee if you need one, and the ball machine is outside by the range.  It's about 8 or 9cents per ball.

Funny story though.  One time I skipped work early to hit a few balls, and after awhile I hear this one dude next to me saying the magic 4 letter word, and the next thing I know, i see his ball and 6 iron flying in the air and past the nets to the left.  I guess just seeing that happen, and seeing his reaction by running to get his ball/clubs, I had to stop and compose myself.

Alondra G.C. is getting a face lift.  Currently, the front nine is closed due to renovations, and management predicts that the full course will be open some time in early 2009.  you can still play the back 9, though, and they should be opening the newly designed front 9 on October 27, 2008.  can't wait!

It's always packed... The course is short, flat, and easy. Unless your playing on the weekdays expect at least a 5+ hr round. There's nothing remarkable about the course but if your looking for something affordable and close in the south bay area it's a good choice. It's a great place to practice your shot making and trying different clubs out. There's a driving range available also.

I'm from the Bay, and Alondra was recommended on my recent trip to LA.  I had a tee time for 1:52, and showed up at 1:45.  The starter was pretty rude, made a smug remark and told me my tee time was given away because I was late - I was then instructed to come back 15 minutes later for a new tee time.  Ordinarily, I would have just left, but since I was already there and didn't know of any other courses in the area, I thought I'd play anyway...what a waste of time and money!

First of all, there was no mention that the course is cash only until I tried paying with a credit card.  When I finally got a cart, I was told I couldn't drive it to the lot to get my clubs out of my trunk...weird. $75 later (2 players + cart), we were on our way.  On the first tee, there is a sign warning players not to lag, and if you do, be prepared to be warned and even kicked off the course for slow play.  Never once did I see a marshall roll by.  I saw a couple 5-somes on the course, 20 people waiting on tee boxes, etc.  I got to the 13 hole and decided to give up - had I continued to play, the round would have lasted 7 hours.  This is a muni, but even by muni standards, this was bad.  First time I've ever wanted to walk off a course after the 1st hole. Horrendous. I highly recommend Rio Hondo instead!
