Review from Morgan C.
Honolulu, HI
Went here for a birthday dinner, this place is located in Waikiki upstairs from a hostess bar. It specializes from what i could is American/ island style grinds. When I went there was quite a line for people trying to wait for a table, one of the reason was we had a fairly big party 15 ppl total, but no problem for us, has nice ambiance.
Our Waiter, im not sure if he was the owner/ manager or what but, he made sure we were taken care of, hell he would even conversant w/ use every now and again. Turns out he is uncle to UFC fighter Nate Diaz, as his nephew was fighting on that particular day we were there.
Anyhow, we ordered a bunch of stuff and i got to sample here and there.
One of the items that caught my attention was the Aloha spicy wings, it was like a buffalo wing, but some tender, chicken wing rips right off and the spices was not at all over powering. Extremely good.
Salmon carpaccio w/ vinaigrette and capers - simply i saw the words salmon & capers i had to order it lol. I love capers, its basically raw salmon served with bread, a vinaigrette sauce and capers. this was an appetizer and was Ok. Didn't have the WOW factor i was expecting.
I ordered beef curry, which was also Ok, i had greater exceptions, since there were other treats i wanted to order, such as loco moco, pasta selection or my curiosity to try oxtail soup in a pho broth. Maybe next time.
I sampled other things, but don't remember what else, any how i definitely liked the place, very welcoming setting, pretty good food, and a good time, and most of their clientele were Japanese tourist seems like a popular place for tourist.
Parking, may be the challenge here however, just because its located in Waikiki. -

BEST LOCO MOCO EVER! the demi glace was so delicous the best I've tried on my time there. The eggs were softly fried, the meat was so good. Over all it was very delicious, I also ordered the seafood pasta, I didn't care much for that dish. The service was very nice. Highly recommended.

This place was nice. It's an Italian American restaurant with Asian influences. I had the pescatore with a side of garlic shrimp. As far as Waikiki prices go, their lunch menu is quite cheap. The food was good. I like how it is tucked away from the main streets. It's a good place to escape the beach crowd/ shoppers with a partner and just chill. Everyone was very friendly and I like the decor.

This is one of my favorite places to eat. I was introduced to this place by a friend and although I was skeptical to try it, I decided to go in with an open mind and its a good thing too. i love it.
We had the hayashi rice, garlic fried rice, coconut fried chicken and some other stuff that i forgot. It is never a let down whenever we come here.
Its off the strip in waikiki so you won't have to hear all those loud people, theres a slight wait due to the fact that a lot of japanese tourists like to come here. Nice atmosphere and friendly workers. Good place to go with friends and have pupus or go on a date with -

Went here for dinner because we passed by last night when we took a shortcut back to our hotel through some side alley. Since we saw a line of people going down the stairs, we thought we would try it out for dinner tonight.
We had to wait, as expected during the peak season. But our wait was only about 5 minutes. The waiter was really friendly and were promptly seated as soon as the table was clear.
The ambiance was nice. Mission-style architecture and good lighting. It seems like most of the customers were Japanese, which was kinda cool because we didn't have to hear our fellow mainlander-Americans being loud and obnoxious like everywhere else we have been.
The prices were reasonable for Waikiki too. The menu was scattered somewhat, but there are only 3 pages so its not like it was difficult to understand.
To start, we ordered the spinach salad - fresh baby spinach leaves with real hot bacon, over-easy egg, and fried garlic. It was awesome. I dont even know what the dressing was, but for some reason it tasted like I was eating spinach with eggs benedict and bacon/garlic. We shared the coconut Mochiko chicken, the pork chop, and the aloha hot wings. The Mochiko chicken was great with all the finely grated coconut on top, served with a juicy lemon wedge. The pork chop was nice and tender, and the juices soaked into the bed of cabbage and I had to finish that up too. The chicken wings were both sweet and spicy and were crispy on the outside and, like most hot wings, went very well with the bleu cheese on the side.
I liked this place a lot. I will definitely go here again. -

This place was good, I probably need to go again and update my review. We went to celebrate and it was the perfect place. We ordered the whole garlic, fried rice, and a penne pasta (I don't remember the name unfortunately). The penne pasta was amazing! With the right amount of spice (and garlic) and great presentation, it was great.
The wait staff were awesome, really young and energetic staff. There was a small bar and the seating (indoor and outdoor) was really nice. It'd be a great place to have a small party of 6 or 7, any more than that would be a little cramped.
I'll go back again soon and update. But if anyone is looking for a different restaurant to take someone on a date or a small party of friends, this is a great place that people may underestimate. -

This is a nice restaurant with a Spanish feel. Mostly Japanese customers for some reason, maybe it's advertised in tourist magazines? Anyway, that doesn't matter, this was a good find.
We had the Pork Chops, Loco Moco, cocktails, and Tiramisu. Everything was good quality and worthy of a recommendation. These are Waikiki prices, so don't expect to pay Zippy's prices. -

Formerly Petite Garlic, it is now called Aloha Table. Different owner, but same head chef and wait staff.
The decor changed a little and the lighting was dimmer, but the restaurant still had the same floor plan as before.
What was formerly a French-Japanese fusion menu is now closer to a local/American/Italian fusion menu. On one side you'll see a plethora of pasta dishes and in another section you'll see listings for loco moco and pork chops island style. There were still a couple familiar dishes like the Ahi Tatake and the fried garlic, but everything else seemed completely different.
Our party of 13 ordered garlic bread, fried garlic, ahi tataki, fresh tomato spaghettini, fried chicken wings, grilled kalbi, coconut fried shrimp, loco moco, and a few other dishes I cannot recall due to heavy wine drinking...but all of the food ranged from good to very good. Nothing really stood out IMO though.
Would I come back again? Eh, maybe... -

I was prepared for some changes when the Petite Garlic staff told me a year ago that ownership of the restaurant had changed....but coming to Aloha Table just made me really miss the way Petite Garlic used to be.
Pros:
1. The head chef is still the same, so quality of the food is still definitely above par.
2. Items on the menu are now on the more affordable side. Portions have also gotten a lot bigger since the Petite Garlic days.
3. Their hours of operation are still the same for dinner (closes at 2AM), but they're now also open for lunch.
Cons:
1. Some of the best things on their previous French-Japanese menu like the Beef stew, French Onion Soup, & bouillabaisse is pretty much gone forever :(
2. They used to have the best lychee martinis...it had pureed/muddled lychees in it...now it's been replaced by the standard clear lychee martini
3. Tables used to be more spaced out at Petite Garlic. Aloha Table is crammed with as many tables as will possibly fit. Getting to our lanai corner table took a lot of clever foot work. My bf and I even offered to move to a different table because we felt sorry for our waitress when we saw her trying to navigate past the many tables & chairs while holding our cocktails. -

This is a new place in Waikiki where Petite Garlic used to be. I stopped in for lunch today and had a great curry rice. The style is definately Japanese influenced but the menu is mainly seafood, pasta, salads. Lunch menu is limited to about four choices that they seem to do very well. Dinner menu is larger and reasonably priced for Waikiki. Give it a try.
Located in the alley behind the Waikiki Trade Building. -

Wow. Exceeded my expectations. Long wait. Medium wait time. Waikiki prices. But ono taste. We had the edamame, abalone, and porkchops. Nothing was left on our plates. Coconut porter great addition to meal.

Unless the name of your restaurant has the words "Stinking" or "Rose" in it, you should never subject your patrons to so much of it in every friggin' dish.
Despite ordering completely out of sections that weren't call "garlic," our spinach salad was extremely garlicky, with no dimension in flavor at all. The combination of warm nuts, spinach, runny egg, and the garlic dressing (again, unexpected) tasted like warm, nutty garlic. There was no zest or fruitiness to counteract, and so we were done with it in just a couple of bites.
The ahi tuna salad entree suffered a similar fate. I ordered the Penne Arrabiata, which was the best dish by far, but not impressive.
To top it all off, the service was half-assed. I'm sorry, but the fact that the wait-staff all had on over-sized beige button-up shirts, as though they worked at The Sizzler, should be a huge tip-off for anyone that this restaurant is not about attention to detail. Not in their waitstaff's attire, and certainly not in their food.
It was really dissapointing, because up until this point on our trip Yelp really had helped us a lot. But this restaurant is just so bad on every level, I would not recommend it. -

Found via Yelp on my iPad. We were staying at the
Outrigger and this popped up close. We travel to Waikiki alot for work and this was new to us, and since we brought our kids this time we wanted to try something new. This will now be a regular spot for us. Service and food were both great and we loved that it was off the high beaten path. Our 13 and 18 year olds also loved it. Thank u Yelp! -

Neat little place that is tucked just off the main street.
The atmosphere and the service is the highlight here. We had all smiles and attentive service from the three ladies looking after us. It was quite busy so they kindly seated us at the bar tables, but almost immediately an outside table opened up, and they quickly sat us.
The food was decent, beef curry was maybe a little short on beef, but it was perfectly cooked and had a great rich flavor.
I was happily surprised that it was much better than the reviews suggested, give it a shot. -

Aloha Table has undergone so many changes since I started coming here a couple of years ago. Now days, they have a more extensive dinner menu and seem to cater more to Japanese. Which is fine, it is Waikiki afteral, but I like this place just for the charm and as another option for a late night pau hana.
Last week when I was there with a co-worker we ordered a couple of pupus to share. We got the BBQ Kalua Pork Quesadilla and Tomato and Onion salad. Both were delicious!! And perfect size for a post-work snack.
Add of a couple of Fire Rocks and I was a happy camper.
This would have been a 4 star review, but unfortunately, the service here loses them a star. Our server was nice enough, but as soon as we were done with our food, she kept trying to get rid of us! We came there for drinks, not just food, so its not like we were ready to leave just because we weren't eating anymore. You would think she would understand that after we ordered another round, but she kept coming by and asking us "if we wanted anything else." Finally I was irritated with this and just said "No, we will take the check!" Obviously that's what she wanted to hear. And I thought that maybe they were closing soon, and she was ready to go, but two other tables were seated while we were paying our check! So what's the deal??? My friend was trying to remind me that not everyone that waits table is a great server. Okay, I understand, and will probably return to Aloha Table some day to give them another chance! -

We didn't know this restaurant exists because it is not located on the main street in Waikiki.
Foods and service are great and we definitely come here often!
Lunch plate comes with 3 items and rice and only $11!!
Try their Malasada! We loved it sooo much! We think it is much better than Leonard's!
custard pudding and mango pudding are good too. -

The food was great - we all had the spinach salad (which was really good, i liked the dressing!) me and my friend had the beef curry, and another friend had the loco moco. mm.. curry,... the beef was very soft and tasted as if marinated in wine for a long time.. gives that rich flavor...
The food was good (4-4.5), but like another reviewer wrote, the service wasn't that great.. LOL... we only had 2 sets of silverware in the basket.in our table... and when we flagged down the waiter and asked for another set, he was like.. "um.. ok... we usually have four sets in the basket" as if it's our fault for some reason... and then took forever in a life time for our glasses to be filled when empty... and when we commented how the spinach salad tasted wonderful.. the waiter simply said "i know" umm.. hello... we just commented on how good the spinach salad was...
and he would frequent the "japanese" customers' table twice as much... hmmm... whhhhy...?
anyhow
food 4-4.5
service 3.0 (i think it was just we had a very inarticulate server) -

i really wanted to like this place. but it failed miserably. the only reason why i didn't give this place 1 star was that food honestly deserved 3 maybe 3.5 stars. it was delicious & flavorful. i had the LOCO MOCO & my friend had the MAHI MAHI in curry (which was by far the best!) the food itself was delicious, light & tender, everything i was expecting & hoping.
was deserved the horrible 2 stars? THE SERVICE! we sat there 10 minutes before we finally waved down a waiter to take our order. they sat a couple after us and they attended to them first. i could understand if it was terrible busy, but they weren't. they had 1 group of 8 and maybe 4 groups of 4-5. thats it! finally when we placed our order we preceded to wait and additional 20 minutes before one of our dishes came out. so when did my dish come out next, another 20 minutes later. my dear friend waited for me as her dish turned cold. they didn't bother to comp for anything or apologize. there only excuse, we're really busy so we're backed up tonight...
BOO i say! -

It was 10pm and almost everything is closed. We found this place looking for another restaurant we found on yelp (which turned out to be closing) so we have decided to just eat here since we are starving. Thus place is on a small street so it is hard to see it unless you are looking specifically for it. Everything was pretty good besides the first moment we got here. It took the waiter about five min to take us inside even though there were a lot of empty tables. I think he has forgot about us who he has asked to wait inside. Anyways, we ordered three things for two people - taste of aloha, garlic fried rice and seafood pasta. The taste of aloha is a appetizer sampler, we loved everything in it. Garlic fried rice wasn't as garlic-y as I thought it would be but it was good. The seafood pasta was not that great. The sauce was ok but the seafood tasted very plain. Like they just boiled them in water and threw it in the pasta. I would not recommend it. Overall it was a good experience, a good spot for us late night eater.

because we have to give stars, we decided to give them one star even though they really deserve zero stars.
Went there tonight with a group of 11 for our friends bday dinner.
Cons:
-Hella bad service
-Menu had limited stuff
-Speaking of menu, what the heck was up w/ it? It had italian food, local food, american..front page was confusing, are these appetizers or entrees?!
-Some had small portions
-Water wasn't refilled promptly
-People that came in after us, got served before us
-Food took an hour to come
-Food wasn't served to everyone @ the same time so we it was kinda awkward when some of us were eating and others weren't
-Waiter didn't like the fact that she had to split the checks AND she added 18% gratuity to each of the 5 checks so she got hella tips which she didn't deserve at all
-Location was hard to find
-since our food took forever, she said she would give us a discount, which she didn't
-bar had limited selection
-lack of view, what view?!
-no validated parking
Pros:
-curry w/ braised beef was good
-some of the food was alright
Are we going back there again?.....um, no thanks. -

After a long hot week in Waikiki, we were looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy a good meal and relax, but we found much much more at the Aloha Table.
This quiet restaurant is hidden from the glitzy world of Waikiki, but sits in the middle without fanfare. Located on an ally street (Lau'ula) centered between Royal Hawaiian, Seaside, Kalakaua. & Kuhio, this hidden gem is worth finding and enjoying.
Manager/Head waiter Nolan was friendly, gracious, and made us feel that he really wanted you to have a good evening. All the staff made you feel this way as well. No frills, just nice people, good service, and that relaxed atmosphere we were looking for.
The Spinach and Caesar Salads were tasty, good portion, without being heavy. Rib steaks were cooked to perfection with onions and mushrooms. A decent wine list for bottles or by the glass without being pricy, combined with the variety of the menu, made this a wonderfully relaxed and satisfying evening.
If you are looking for good food, friendly staff, and a quiet atmosphere where even locals go, this is the place to visit. -

I ate there on Jan. 20, 2010 with a friend, and we sat outside. Our table was right at the top of the stairs so there was zero view, and we were sat next to a very noisy table of tourists. The menu seemed odd, but I settled on the garlic fried rice and my friend had the spam chow mein. The food was alright, albeit extremely garlicy (which was fine for me since I did order garlic fried rice). Our food took a long time to come out and when it did our meals came out separately a few minutes apart. There were no salt and pepper on the table, and our server didn't come around very often so we had to ask another server for it. Overall I was not impressed with the service. Would I go back? Probably not.
