Mahalo for authentic Hawaiian pork and such at a great value compared to the rest of the island.

We came here several times for the uniquely savory pork and macaroni salad. They have a coconut dessert that is amazing!

The restaurant is mostly seating outdoors with great views over Lahaina and out to Ka'anapali Beach. Tiki torches light the way at night, making for a truly Hawaiian experience.

I had my first real authentic lau lau in Kauai at the Koloa Fish Market and just had to get more during my stay in Maui.  I found Aloha Mixed Plate thanks to the internet and here's my assessment comparing Koloa Kauai to Aloha Mixed Plate (let it be known I am a tourist, so I can only base this on my taste buds and don't have the local perspective).
    - The Kalua Pig: Aloha Mixed Plate's portion of the Alii plate (lau lau and kalua pig) was HUGE.  Bigger than Koloa.  I was floored with the amount of kalua pig - I think it might have been 1.5 cups there was so much. It had a nice porky flavor and had some cabbage in it to brighten it up which I appreciated.  The cabbage did not take away from the pork flavor at all and it wasn't over salted or watered down.  Really good.
    - The Lau Lau: This is where Koloa fish market had Aloha beat.  Koloa seems to have a more tender fattier pork that just melted the taro leaf so much that it was virtually impossible to tease the pork apart from the leaf and the pork had also absorbed the yummy flavor of the leaf.  There was enough juice to smear on the rice.
    - Portions: Aloha gave 2 scoops (1/2 cup each or so) of perfectly cooked sticky white rice as well as a scoop of macaroni salad.  It included a lomi lomi salmon, poi (which I can't seem to find a taste for) and they bonused a a free 1/4 cup of coconut custard for dessert!  Koloa only gave 1 scoop of rice. The pig was in it's own small container (and I would say portion wise it's only 1/3rd that of Aloha), it came with some lomi lomi, some kim chee veggies.
    - Prices: Aloha's was about $5 more expensive, but portion wise, I was able to break it down into two sittings and make it last!
    - Service: Aloha had seating and is more of a restaurant on the beach.  I got the plate for takeout. The nice hostess said just go up to the bar to order and the bartender took it down right away, even though the bar was packed and was busy with drinks. We waited in the seating area and got our order in about 10 minutes. Koloa was more of a small deli shop.
    - Overall, I liked Aloha better for the portions and service but Koloa's Lau Lau couldn't be beat.

It was ok.  Kinda pricey for lunch plate but it Maui.  The loco moco didn't have much taste.  The kalbi ribs were good.  Mac salad too peppery.  Kalua pork was good. Staff is friendly and there are mini portions available if you can't decide what to eat like me!

If u order to go - make sure you get all the  sides with your meal!  We were supposed to have 3 scoops of mac salad but only got one

DH and i were craving a plate lunch, so my friend recommended this place. ugh. i should have slowed down and checked reviews first. coulda went to local food or somewhere better. anyhoo, i said sure why not, let's go.

I saw big heaping plates of oh-so-comforting loco moco. Done, didn't even need to see the menu!

Waitress comes, they're out of eggs?!?!?!? What you talkin bout Willis???  There's a Safeway right across the street but I guess that wasn't an option. I even offered to run over and buy eggs myself

Coconut prawns- don't think I've ever had it before... Nice coat of shredded coconut on the shrimp. It needs a sauce though, but the sweet chili sauce just wasn't working for me. I want something more original than just sweet chili sauce out of a bottle. Anyhoo, I can see why this would be a favorite, just not my cup of tea.

Breaded teriyaki was tasty, a tad on the salty side

    Nutty mango cocktail-yum
Sassy wahine- mango smoothie with strawberry margarita and topped with Li hing powder, yum

overall food experience, meh. left still desiring loco moco...

Update: went back the next morning for loco moco. It was Delish! Also ordered the mixed plate special saimin. Asked for the kimchee on the side so my daughter could have some. Kimchee never came. Found out 25 minutes later that they had run out of kimchee. Really? That stuff is fermented for days... They didn't notice the bottle getting empty??  ok, shouldn't complain, right? i got my loco moco.  everything was fine until the end when the waittress just takes away my daughter's plate without asking. argh. that is becoming my pet peeve on this item. how do you take away food from a skinny child???

update 2: i know, we are gluttons for punishment at this point. my DH feels their loco moco meat is better and no one was open this early in the morning. we are heading out for the airport and want to take good hearty local food. so, alas, we go back to AMP for the fried rice moco and kahlua pork hash. all is fine this time. whew!!  fried rice moco is so good!!!  food was ready in 5 minutes!  i think the secret is to just take the food to g so they can't screw anything up.

The best dining experience that we had on our visit to the Island.  The staff was on their game.  Very friendly and gave great explanations to what we were eating and how it was prepared.  We will be recommending this restaurant to anyone that we know that will be visiting Maui.  The scenery was beautiful and picturesque!  I look forward to our next visit and our return to this establishment.  Oh yeah and the Mai Tai's were deliciously refreshing after our trip to Nakalele Blowhole~

When we entered, we knew we were in the right place--there were probably more locals than tourists--just what we wanted!  The fried rice Ida meal in itself:  chunks of delicious ham and bacon.   Seasoned just right.  My husband liked the loco moco--again, a hearty serving.  Everything is obviously fresh so don't plan on being in and out fast. My din had Belgian waffles which he loved, but it took quite a bit of time to get them since there were so many people ordering them.    Excellent food and worth the wait.

Most of the food sucked, but the scenery was fantastic!

Coconut Prawns:  These were nice and crunchy.  The shredded coconut was flavorful.  This was the first time I actually detected hints of coconut in said dish.  I would get this again.

Aloha Mixed Plate: The Ono was horrible.  The fish was grilled and tasted very bland.  The Shoyu Chicken was very tender, probably on the very of being mush.  The Teriyaki Beef was just ok in flavor.

Mac Salad:  This was too heavy on the mayo.  There wasn't any flavor either.

Overall, I hate the food here!  But sitting next to the beach with a beautiful view was fantastic.

Always our first spot when we arrive on the island... Until now!!

We stopped in and this time we brought my parents with us. Their was quite a bit of a wait, but we were ok with that. We walked on the gorgeous beach while we waited. Our time was up, and we were seating nearest the water. Gorgeous view, but please tell me why there is no liquor allowed on the patio?? What a downer.

After waiting for over 15 minutes for menus, we were all starting to get a little feisty. Finally 20 minutes later she was there with water and menus. She vanished and did not come back until she brought out our plates another 20 minutes later...

We noticed some things were missing from our order, my mom's gravy on her loco moco, my bf's mac salad, and the tartar sauce for my mahi sandwich. We had to flag her down to get a refill as well as tell her what we were missing.

Then... She vanished AGAIN. It was like she was completely avoiding our table. After waiting another 20 minutes, I was getting super pissed off, so I set out to find her. I walked up to her and said... 'We haven't seen you since we got our meal, and we were all missing items. That was 20 minutes ago. Can we get some service??"

She said she would be over, but I no longer trusted her, and asked someone else. He brought us our good and we ate our then cold food.

Aloha Mixed plate, your service was the worst in Maui. With plenty of other mixed plate options, next time we will not be back. What should have been a quick bite for lunch before we went in the water, turned into an hour and half long fiasco!

Nothing like the taste of Hawaii, absent the poi which I haven't developed an affinity for.  This meal was a great value for a beach setting.  The food is typical local fair perhaps priced a little higher than you'd find in a strip mall.  At Aloha Mixed Plate, quality seemed somewhat mixed too.  Despite that we eat at least one meal here each visit to Maui it seems, and always have a nice time.

No alcohol served off the deck, which is closest to the beach.  I've found it is cooler temperature wise in the no alcohol area, so it can be a tough call for me on where to sit.  Usually I go for the cool air rather than the cool libation.  Who would have guessed.

Typical food court standard bbq quality. Taste ok. Chicken is too dry that tasted like shreded pork lol. Um... good for lunch. Cheap and quick lunch. The bbq is still better than many overpriced restuarants though. If you stay in the area for a few days you would know what i mean.

Aloha Mixed Plate seemed to be a traditional Hawaii styled meal.  The restaurant was outdoors, which was nice!  Soak up the atmosphere.  I ordered the coconut prawns appetizer with a friend and those were the best of the night.  The prawns were delicious and fried!

I had the Aloha Mixed Plate Platter meal for my main dish- with chicken, beef and ono (white fish).  The mixed plate platter comes with rice and macaroni salad.  The beef and the chicken were not my favorite, however the ono (grilled) was very nice.  The beef was eaten by the boyfriend.

Others at the table had the grilled cheese platter (really delish), another pork platter and the coconut prawns.  Everything seemed to be devoured though.

Fun atmosphere & nice outdoor area.

Simple and Outdoors ... The Smell of the BBQ just jumps to the insides of your nose and tickles your brain ... lets go and eat now.

Ofcourse, the Kalbi BBQ is always a winner.  The Chicken Wings were great too.  I have not ordered anyting else .  I have seen other people order salmons and other things but i'm always just here for the Beef so my review is a little biased.

Overall, eating in this place is like having a picnic outdoors.  Its fun here and the service is also good.  They also have a full bar, what more could you ask for more?

Its right beside the Old Lahaina Luau on Front Street.  Plus, the beach is right beside it.  You can listen to the splash of the water while you chow down your beefy kalbi goodness of a meat ... NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM ...!!!!

Overall, this place is a winner.

    Also,

One of these days I'll try something else, promise :-D

Every time we go to Maui, we have to make a stop at Aloha Mixed Plate.  Always consistent and always just the right amount of junky heavenly taste.  :)

I love their Kalbi ribs.  They're juicy and marinated perfectly served over white rice and mac salad.  BTW, brown rice is available and can be substituted or you can ask for a green side salad instead.

The kids always love the breaded "deep fried" teriyaki beef.  You can truly only get it this way at Aloha Plate!  Yum!  I can steal a taste here and there and not feel overly guilty.

The drinks are watered down, but not expensive at all and the outside seating is great.

Get there about 20 minutes or so before sunset, put your name on the list and walk behind the restaurant for a front seat view.  Absolutely spectacular and the wait time goes by faster.

We'll be back again next year.  :)

The setting here is perfect, food not so much.
AMP serves basic local fair that if you take the time to look is everywhere in all the hidden corners. The food here is not that bad it is just not that good. It tastes salty and bland. the prices are not bad considering the view but if you really want local flavor search for a hole in the wall place to eat.
Service is decent but not spectacular.
The bar is useless unless you want some sugar cocktail.
    Won't be back.

A must visit for an affordable meal while you are in Maui!

Food: this restaurant is located adjacent to the Old Lahaina Luau...in fact, this place supplies all the food for the luau. So, for this reason, if you plan to attend the luau (which you should!), do not order the top 3-4 items on the Aloha Mixed Plate menu because you will get to try all of these items at the luau.  Try other things.

    I had:
-Loco Moco: rice with 2 hamburger patties, a fried egg on top and gravy.  A traditional Hawaiian dish.  Very good, large portion.  A must try at some point while you are in Hawaii.
-BBQ plate: two scoops of white or brown rice, macaroni salad and about three different types of BBQ'd meat - Shoyu Chicken, Teriyaki Beef and a Kalbi Rib.  All really tasty.

Portions are large and you will probably have leftovers.  They also have about 5 dessert options, if you have room. Menu can be found at: http://www.alohamixedp...

Drink: full bar, but if you sit on the beach area closest to the ocean, no alcohol is permitted.  When you arrive, they will ask you in advance if you plan to drink or not.

Ambiance: great!  If you sit in the back part of the restaurant (which is all open-air), you have an amazing view of the ocean.  Since the luau is going on next door, you also get some nice background music.  I would recommend going around sunset for an even more amazing view.

Service: the place gets crowded and is very popular.  We waited about 30 minutes for a table, but well worth it.  Once seated, waiters were very friendly and efficient.

    I would definitely go back!

After a 45 minute drive to our hotel (in the rain) only to find out we were too early to check in we were recommended this place by the front desk people.

No wonder, by far the best BBQ mixed plate. So yummy. Not that big of a fan of the macaroni salad but I don't usually like that anyways. I got the aloha mixed plate even though I don't normally like fish but figured might as well try it. I was not disappointed in the least. Husband had the first mixed plate choice, can't remember what it was called but he loved it as well. I also had their drink special which was pineapple juice, strawberry purée and vodka I believe, they had me at vodka so I don't remember exactly what was in it! We came at happy hour so we were also able to snag a Mai tai at 3 bucks!

You cannot beat the location/view. This alone is worth coming for. So 3 drinks and 2 mixed plates came to 42.00, considering this is Maui, I don't think that's bad at all. Actually were considering coming back before we leave!

I had heard some good things about Aloha Mixed Plate so maybe my expectations were to high. It is located by the water in the North part of Lahaina and when we got there for an early lunch (just before 12) it was still almost full. The service was still ok, not as quick as I would have wanted but still no longer waits.

We went for some different mixed plates (BBQ Mixed Plate and the Hawaiian Mixed Plate). The food did taste good but the quality of the meat was not the best so was not possible to eat all of it. The price level was pretty ok but still think that there are some other equally good options in Lahaina or the surrounding cities.

Fun and casual place on the ocean.  The separate tables who order alcohol from those who don't.  If you want to be closer to the beach, then don't order alcohol.  This also might affect your wait if there is one.  The food is good, not great.  We always make it a point to stop in at least per trip.

I was visiting friends in Lahaina and we decided to go there based on reviews on this website.

Being a local and craving Hawaiian food I ordered their Bamboocha Hawaiian Plate (2 laulaus, rice, mac sald, lomilomi salmon, haupia).  I have to say, I could not have been more disappointed in this dish.  For $12.50 I received two 3oz laulaus which was dry and unseasoned all the way through.  To even make the laulau leaves come out dry must take great effort.  To add insult to the unseasoned laulau, the mac salad was way too salty and the rice tasted like it been made the day before.

While I was disappointed, I actually feel bad for the tourist who base their judgment on Hawaiian food on this place.  There are far better places on Maui for a good sampling of local cuisine.  I would recommend going to Da Kitchen (Kahului & Kihei) for far superior food that the locals enjoy.

I can't remember what I ordered, it was one of the  mixed plate meals.  The pork, rice, and mac i give 4 stars.  The salmon was mixed with tomatoes and such so that it tasted like pico de gallo with salmon, which was okay.

The taro desert was yuk and had a solid texture.  Portions were large, service was good, prices were good as well.  Overall a decent meal, though nothing that stands out.

My experience with this place was an emotional roller coaster. The excitement of finding a grear place on Yelp.... The disappointment when I was told there was a 50 minute wait... The thrill of being able to jump the line by snagging a seat at the bar!! (*insider tip!*) Then, the sadness over medicre food.

It's true --When we got there, they said there was a 50 minute wait.  We inquired about sitting at the bar (which was crowded) and they said if we could find a seat, we could eat there.  My intrepid eating partner had eagle eyes on the bar and we pounced when 2 people left!  Score.

Prices are excellent, but unfortunately, the food is not.  We got the loco moco and it was BURNT, so basically it was gross.  The Aloha Mixed Plate ($10) had teriyaki beef (tough but tasty), ono (VERY DRY), and pork (the best part--pretty good.) The coconut prawn appetizers were average. My eating partner didn't like his pina colada either.  If you want mediocre food cheaply, this is a good choice.  I am only giving it 3 stars instead of 2 because it's so hard to find cheap food in Maui. Anywhere else it would be 2 stars.

The girl working behind the bar was working her tail off and was actually kind of awesome to watch beacuse she was so efficient. Props to her.

Love this place food is great and reasonably priced.  Good place to authentic mixed plate meal, or luau food for lunch.  The pineapple burger is juicy and delicious.  The cocnut prawns are a lot of people's favorite, and they ARE good, but a little too sweet for my taste.  The chow mein is delicious.  The alii plate is really great, juicy pig and cabbage, salmon, and lau lau.  The macaroni salad is also very good.

The Mai Tai is the best one we had on the island, not watered down at all, and if you get there during happy hour, Mai Tais are cheap.

Staff was friendly and quick, which is a big help when the line for a table extends out into the parking lot.  Wish they didn't use styrofome plates though.

Aloha Mixed Plate also holds a special place in my heart because it was the first place to introduce me to Sriracha sauce and POG juice.

It's hard to write a review on the basis of one dish and one meal, but that's what happens when you're on (working) vacation -- so many places to go, why go anywhere twice?

That said, next time I'm in Maui, I would probably eat here again. I came in for breakfast and had a fried moco. Delicious gravy and fried rice! And I totally could have shared it, the serving was so big. Great value for money. One quibble though - the meat patty itself was bland and undercooked. I wasn't even asked how I wanted the meat, so I'm guessing this is the default way they make it? If so, they could do with changing that.

Service was good and fairly quick, and the place felt very relaxed and casual -- just how you want to be in Hawaii.

Good food Sit down by the water if you don't plan on drinking. It just so happens that they make the food for the old Hawaii luau right next store. We sat at the bar after dinner for a yummy Pina colada
OK now the bad the receptionist (didn't have name tag) was a real b*tch. She gave us the fricken haole look when I asked a simple question about a table we were at.

During a one-week stay in Maui, we had amazingly good food all around, but there were only two places that merited a repeat visit on our last day on the island, and this was one of them.

The casual outdoor ambience, friendly staff, and fresh "local grindz" all make for a relaxing dining experience in old Lahaina town. It can certainly get busy here, but we did not have to wait at all since we opted to eat at the bar on both of our visits. On both nights, Ally was tending the bar, and we loved talking to her and watching her serve up drinks as we indulged in kalua pork, chow fun, garlic furikake fries, macaroni salad, lava flows....

The pricepoint, by Maui standards, is more than reasonable. Combine that with a menu sure to please anyone, and you have a winner.

Had a fun filled day on the beach and my boyfriend and I were in the mood for some Hawaiian BBQ. Walked around Lahaina Cannery Shopping Center, didn't find anything we were insterested in. Tried to find something online, but that, for some reason, didn't really help us. So we asked a local, and he suggested Aloha Mixed Plate which was located right behind the shopping center.

This place is small, cozy, and had open seating that had a view of the ocean. The boyfriend got a Piña Colada to drink while I just stuck to water. Started with Coconut Prawns, a Chicken Katsu Plate, and a Mixed BBQ Plate (short ribs, chicken teriyaki, and beef teriyaki). Both plates come with rice and macaroni salad. The Coconut Prawns were yummy. I don't usually like flavored coconut/dried coconut things, but shrimp, I like, and the coconut didn't over take the taste of the prawns. When our plates came out, there was a lot of food. Despite the amount, the taste was just okay, but definitely better than a lot of places on the mainland like Ono's or L & L (duh! It's Hawaii!!).

The only major problem we ran into was the seating. You're either sitting in an area that is covered, or not. There really isn't an inside or outside. We should have sat in a covered area, because the wind was blowing kind of strong that day and the trees we were sitting under were dropping pellet-like looking things and leaves. Had a bit of trouble keeping it out of our food.

Went here twice last week on our Maui vacation.  Had been there last year & remembered it fondly.  :)

The first night I had the special of the night Kalua Pork Tacos.  They had sour cream, salsa & guacamole.  Normally I would love that but I was missing the pork.  It was served with a fresh green salad but I would have preferred rice & chips.

The second visit I had the Kalua Pork Sandwich & it satisfied my craving for pork.  Menu listed it as being served with fries & coleslaw but I requested white rice & mac salad instead.  Was charged $1.00 for the substitution but it was worth it.  I figure you can have fries anyday/anywhere.

First nights service was much better than the second.  Both nights we lucked out on getting a table & not having to wait.

$3.00 HH Mai Tais are the best deal on Maui!

I started eating here years ago before my tutu kane passed, and I come back here every year. Aloha Mixed Plate is one of the tastiest places to get local-style grinds, from Kalua Pork to Shoyu Chicken. The food is tasty and it's actually cheaper than some other joints you'll try across Maui.

As for service and locale, it's decent. Situated a bit north of all the crowded bustle of Old Lahaina, just behind the Cannery Mall, it's a nice place to be on a hot afternoon. Overlooking the beach with shade provided by both trees and canopies, you can relax the afternoon away while you eat.

Now, there's been some detractors and I feel I must address these statements:

    1) "There are flies", "it's dirty", etc. Guess what, so is most of Maui! For the most part, this place is clean... but it is an open air restaurant on an island made of volcanic dirt and sand. If you can't take some wildlife (like the birds that eat around you) or that some counters might be a little dusty, then maybe you need to head back to your hermetically sealed tourist-trap? Over-all, the cleanliness is just the same as every other wide open eatery on the island.

    2) "This place is for tourists" and the fool that said "The high ratings must be from non-cultured, non-discriminating, overweight, tourists with tainted midwest palates." If anything, it's your haole palate that's obviously uncultured, discriminating, and tainted. If this place is for tourists, how come you see locals eating there? My grandfather, resident of the island for 20+ years, introduced me to the place. Don't listen to them, people... the food here is GOOD. Not liking a dish is more likely because of personal taste (I love poi, but most don't) rather than the dish not being good.

So, if you're visiting Maui and heading up Lahaina way, stop here fo' sure. Price is good, food is tasty, setting is excellent. If you wanna eat local-style, then Aloha Mixed Plate is where it's at!

OMG!  When ever I'm chilling out in Lahaina town, this is a perfect place to go have lunch or supper at.  Their Lau Lau, Kalua Pork, and typical burgers are awesome!  The drinks are strong and cold.  The staff are on their A game all the time.  You get to see the ocean and get free whale watches while dining there.  it's an all around awesome place to chill out at.

2-6 for Happy Hour, $3 mai tais! Go go go!! These are the best mai tais I tried on Maui. I love their coconut prawns to death, too. Good ocean view, although you can only sit closest to the ocean if you don't get alcohol (lame law!). There are also some pesky flies, but this isn't a big gripe. Friendly staff, fun place overall.

This place has GREAT food, the service is good. My only complaint is that there are tooooo many flies and little bits of trees that fly or fall into our food and water. It can be very annoying. I would suggest putting a screen above and around the patio to help with this problem (after all, the whole place is outside). Other then that, the foods is great. We make a point to come here at least twice when we come out to Maui.

The food is exactly what you would expect from an Aloha Mixed Plate restaurant.  Same menu of Katsu Chicken, BBQ Chicken, BBQ Ribs, macaroni salad, etc.  It's all the basic mixed food plates, with the same recipe that L&L Hawaiian BBQ probably follows.  So what exactly sets this place apart?  Besides being an obvious favorite for tourists, the amount of food you get for the price is shocking.  You get a LOT of value.  The portions are so huge, I asked for half plate.

All seating is outside, with the exception of the bar area where there is a roof over your heads.  The views of the fishing bay are amazing, and the ambiance very casual.

The restaurant is right next to the traditional Lahaina luau, so depending on the time the luau starts, you may experience some traffic and a little bit of a headache looking for parking.

One of my faves in Lahaina.

The portions are pretty big and the food is good. Greasy, unhealthy but satisfying. The macaroni salad has too much mayo in it for me but I love how the meat is prepared. $2.50 bud & budlight during happy hour.
