Alright, honestly, people giving this place super low ratings have just got to be food snobs and aspiring foodies, or some kind of bull like that.  I came out of my Yelp hiatus just to get rid of those people and tell it how I see it when I go to Aloha Food Factory.

The way I see this place is like if my mom was cooking for me, and how are you going to criticize your mama's cooking like that, seriously? Unless she just didn't cook, or burnt whatever she did, or something along those lines.

My point is, go to this place and make yourself at home, because that's what they're serving up: love, and a nice warm hug to welcome you home.

Now, Im not one with an expensive palate, so this home style of cooking is right up my alley, and I love it here.  Maybe I'm biased. I love Betty so much; she's so friendly and actually interested in what you have to say instead of tossing out generic small talk to her customers. Because of this, they can do no wrong in my eyes.  But Like I said, the atmosphere and their hospitality really is aimed at making you feel like you're coming home to a nice warm meal, slaved away by your mother at a hot stove.

PS, the macadamia pancakes........... holy shit.  Someone below was talking about how 'bad' they were because of the sauce they put on, and because of the nuts that were there as well....... to that I say, DUH, THEYRE MACADAMIA *NUT* PANCAKES.

The best way I can describe the sauce is that its kind of custard-ish? But more liquidy?  Its sweet, delicious, and the macadamia nuts give an amazing contrast. If you don't have much of a sweet tooth, the sauce probably isnt for you, but its not overbearing.  But hey, that's what theyre advertising on their building, their famous pancakes, so you have to try them.  I mean, you don't go to a taco spot, get nachos, then rant and rave about how horrible the place is. No! You try what they're advertising as their best asset, and if they cant make that well, red flag.

SYNOPSIS: Try this place and hush.

macadamia nut pancakes!!!!! these were so fluffy and airy and delicious and whatever it is they put on top of it is delicious. the platters are huge- we got a combo of the kahlua pig and chasu. the chasu was really crisp and flavorful, and the kahlua pig was tender, but nothing to rave about (unlike the PANCAKES)

the spam musubi was good but i would skip this for next time. $4 for 4 pieces of something i can easily make myself - it was nothing special. stop by for yummy cheap comfort food and great service...and the PANCAKES!

I'm not a big fan of Hawaiian food. I find it to be meat based and I personally don't like eating a lot of meat with my meal although, I do like sweet glazed meat. My friend took me to try this place because she's lived in Hawaii for a couple of years and has yet to find a good Hawaiian food joint here in LA. My experiences with Hawaiian food has been Ono Hawaiian and Bahookas....both, I've heard, are not really good places to get some real Hawaiian food.
Place is kinda like a hole in the wall. It's small and I am not sure if there was bathrooms.
PANCAKES WERE GOOD! I liked their sesame chicken and a bunch of other stuff I don't remember. I want to go back and try their Loco Moco for sure. I know I'll be coming back often.

Hawaiian food isn't fine dining and this certainly isn't it, but damn if it isn't delicious.

Very good, if simple, satisfying food, in a fairly informal environment.  The service was fast and friendly.  If I'm heading downtown via 10, or vice versa, this is a perfect stop.

FIRST OF ALL, I THINK MOST  OF THESE REVIEWS ARE FROM FRIENDS N FAMILIES MEMBERS N IT'S DEFINITELY PADDED! I came to this place based on the 4 stars ratings from 250 people thinking the food  must be awesome! The food was expensive and  horrible. This was by far the worst Hawaiian food ever! We couldn't eat anything and ended up throwing everything away. This place shouldn't be called Aloha Food Factory. It should be call Chinese Fast Food Inn. The food taste like how the place looks......HORRBILE!!! These people have no idea how Hawaiian food should taste like....I don't even think they have ever been to Hawaii! I don't mean to sound harsh but it was so bad I had to write this review!  Restaurants with world renowned chefs might get 4 stars!
SINCE WHEN does short ribs cost $10 for 2 pieces that were overcooked, chewy and dry? SINCE WHEN does spam musubi comes with Chinese lucheon meat and not the real SPAM brand? SINCE WHEN does loco moco comes with white gravy and is used with plain overcooked hamburger patties? Since when do you ordered the special of the day beef stew and they used the same gravy from the loco moco and pour it over some beef and carrots and called it "beef stew..??"  Where is the stew?  SINCE WHEN is a can of juice cost $2? SINCE WHEN does Macaroni salad has potatoes in it and doesn't even taste like Mac salad at all? SINCE WHEN does Hawaiian spicy chicken taste like regular BBQ chicken from Panda Express? ...and it wasn't even spicy...SINCE WHEN would a place like this ever get 4 stars? Since when?....Really....Since when....???

Been here only a couple of times because I've heard some good things about it.  In those two times though I've already fallen in love.

First time I walk in I was treated to a nice free sample of their famous pancakes.  It was DELICIOUS.  So delicious that I came back just to order them.  They're covered in this awesome sauce.  It's not quite butter but it's definitely not syrup.  Whatever it is, it's addicting.

Other than that I've tried their teriyaki beef, spicy chicken, and chicken curry.  They have more typical Hawaiian foods as well but I wasn't in the mood for them at the time.  I honestly just searched for a place for some curry and I went to Aloha Food Factory.  But, they only server curry (beef or chicken) on Saturdays.  That's why I had teriyaki beef and spicy chicken.  So watch out for that, they've got daily food specials!

Some plates come with veggies and a mix of macaroni and potato salad.  Taste good, but nothing too mindblowing.

But seriously try out their pancakes.  They serve breakfast all day too.

The place is very mom and pop-y.  After my second visit I was already called by name and it seems regulars get recognized easily.  So if you want a generally friendly place, this is it.

Oh and $10 minimum for credit/debit, fyi.

Coming from someone who's from Hawaii, I think this place is a great, little gem located in Alhambra. Amidst the great Asian food lies the Aloha Food Co. If you're from Hawaii, then you'll know what I mean when I say that this small mom 'n' pop restaurant feels like it could be in Hawaii. They've got the Bruddah Iz and Makaha Sons playing in the background.

-- The Loco Moco comes with 3 eggs!

-- Hawaiian Sun: These canned fruit juices from Hawaii are all pretty sweet, but they're also really tasty! I would recommend strawberry guava or Passion Orange guava (POG). If you're craving Hawaiian Iced Tea, they even have that!

-- Macadamia Nut Pancakes: Bomb!  The owners were nice enough to give me a sample sized pancake after I finished my loco moco (yes, I devoured everything..even the 3 eggs!).  Trust me, I was already stuffed, but I'm glad that I got to taste a sample of this perfect pancake!  Although it was just a few bites, I thoroughly enjoyed the just-sweet-enough creamy, buttery topping (I would say syrup, but it's more than plain syrup) that's topped with real macadamia nuts!  If the rest of my review doesn't clearly indicate that I'm coming back, well, these pancakes were the winner to convince me to bring all of my friends here very, very soon!

The owners were really nice! And they know all of their regulars! Even know their usual's orders!

Location/Accessibility: Located on Valley, near 710 FWY

Ambiance: indoor seating. avg noise, small place.

Parking: Small private lot and street parking

    Dress Code: casual

    Menu options: Hawaiian

    Ordered:

    - Breakfast plate w Portuguese sausage, 3 eggs (portuguese sausage was not good, they are not the typical portuguese sausage links and were very fatty and not as flavorful as most portuguese sausages; had my eggs sunny side up and they were extremely watery).

    - boyfriend ordered the charsiu, which was very flavorful.

    - side order of spam was good

    - loco moco was burnt and dry

    - macadamia pancakes (did not enjoy due to sauce poured all over and nuts sprinkled on top) ** suggestion! mix the macadamia nuts in the batter. toppings could include some cut bananas and macadamia nuts, just as they do in Hawaii. sauce on the side is always better as well! **

Service: Mom and pop shop. They were very friendly and attentive.

    Price: On avg $8/pp

Overall experience: Food is mediocre, but service was good. As i stated, the macadamia pancakes were the most recommended dish, but was not up to par (see comments above). Was not impressed by the food. Would most likely not return.

Was trying to eat paleo for a few days, and Aloha Food Factory fit right into my dietary needs. Yes... I got the breakfast plate with kalua pig, scrambled eggs, and rice. The kalua pig was super tender and not too salty (like some places who shall remained unnamed). I didn't really eat much of the rice and felt bad because it seemed like I was wasting food. I tried a bite of my friend's macadamia nut pancakes and those were delicious. It's got a nice condensed milk like sauce over the top. Yum... definitely something to be shared. The owners are real friendly and cute and the place has a great Hawaiian feel to it. Definitely would come back.

My microwave stopped working about a week ago....no choice but to eat out. So I drove around the city and found this amazing place. Well, I only decided to come here because I saw the big Aloha sign and I'm the biggest fan of Hawaiian food.

First of all, I do not like pork. Don't kill me now.... but dayummm the the Kahlua pork and the macadamia nut pancakes were so delicious! This place cannot be compared to the Ono Grill Or L&L because it's not the same! This place is legit!. I feel like im in Hawaii when I eat here or better yet, in the movie 50 first date.

This is my fav to-go every Wednesday night, Hawaiian BBQ short ribs special!

My friends and I stopped by here for dinner (because we got tired of traffic on Valley), and we ended up having the BEST Hawaiian food since our trip to Hawaii last summer.

We didn't know what to get, so the owner ended up creating a menu-to-share for us so that we can try little bit of everything.

Macadamia Nut Pancakes - who says pancakes are only for breakfast? It was SOOO YUMMY, not too sweet... It's a must-try!!!

Spam Musubi - You can never go wrong with spam, rice, and seaweed. Great appetizer!

Kalua Pork - It was seasoned just right - very savory, not too salty or peppery as some other places make it.

Cha Shu - Supposedly the specialty at Aloha Factory... but I didn't like it as much as Kalua Pork. It was too sweet and too chewy - tough to eat. I prefer Cha Shu from Sam Woo BBQ.

I cannot wait to come back to try their burgers, loco moco, and millions of other things on the menu!!!

This is one of my favorite places to go when I have a day off. Almost everything on the menu is good. I normally get the Aloha burgers, Kalua Pig, the pancakes or the shaved ice. The small but homelike atmosphere is what makes it stand out. Ernie and Betty have been operating this place since 1994, it's not a wonder due to their excellent food and wonderful joy they bring when you are at this place.

Finally, got a chance to stop in and enjoy this friendly place. Welcomed in by the owner Betty in out of the cold and seated me near the portable heater she had set up at a table in front of a big screen playing CSI(which she was watching). Such a comfortable friendly setting from get go. It was like dinner at grandmas kitchen. She took my order of Kahlua Pig and Lau Lau plate and a side of Spam Misubi which came to my table smelling and looking great. And well it tasted FANTASTIC all of it...couldn't help but hum "mmm mmm mmm mmm" as i chewed. So good. Shakas is still good but this place...OMG. yeah they will soon know me on a first name basis real soon.

My friend's boyfriend's friend recommended this place to me. Which I'm a little embarrassed about, since I've lived down the street for like 2 years now.

I love the owners here! They are ultra sweet.

Came here on a Wednesday and got the lunch special which happened to be short ribs with rice and gravy. And I have to say it was delicious! The gravy complimented everything really well.

Although we didn't have enough room to the pancake dish, they were kind enough to send us two samples. And they were so good! I am definitely going to order it next time.

My only complaint is that I felt like they were a little stingy with the spam in the spam musubi.

The cold green tea here is also really good.

    Go there now!

Like most places, some things are good here and some are just OK.  The place is owned and run by a very nice Chinese couple, who decided to start a Hawaiian place.  She (Betty) pretty much does all the cooking and he takes the orders.  The husband can be kind of rude sometimes, and even Betty tells him off!   She likes to come and talk to everybody, when they're not busy.   And that's the key.   Go there when it's not busy, because when it's busy, the service can be very SLOW!!

As others have stated, the prices are a bit high on most things and the portions aren't that big.  I still prefer Shaka's or B-Man's in this part of town.  They do offer the infamous macadamia pancakes that are popular in Hawaii, and they're not bad.  A great idea to offer this item since places like Shaka's and Ono Hawaiian and L & L do not.  I think since Betty and her husband are Chinese, a lot of their Hawaiian dishes have a bit of a Chinese twist to it. A lot of people keep saying the portions are big, but it really depends what you get.  Some items aren't all that big at all, but some are.  The shave ice is definitely pretty big!  The kalua pig is pretty good and one of my favorites!

Hands down, this is the best Mom & Pop place around. I've been coming here for over 15 years. There was a period in which I wasn't around due to work. However, once I came back, Betty (Mom) remembered my name and order! How's that for small hometown feel? Ernie (Pop) is still at it as well.

My favorite dish here is the Wednesday Special - Braised Short Ribs on the bone. It's so good. The plate comes with rice and veggies too.

    I also recommend:
    - SPAM musubi roll
    - Orange chicken
    - Kahlua pork
    - SPAM and eggs on rice
    - Macadamia pancakes for dessert.

Betty will come by to check up on you during the meal. I swear it feels so good to eat here. From the music, to the food, to the hospitality of Betty & Tom - you have to stop here once.

we sat down and finally when the man came over to take our order he said "ooo you guys didn't even get menus". ya. we ordered the portuguese sausage/cha shu and egg breakfast combo and a mac nut pancake. mmmm... mediocre at best.

during my meal, i had to get up to pour myself another serving of coffee and so did another table. i understand that it's mom and pop, but come on...seriously? if you are at retirement age, then i think you should retire and hire more capable people to help run your business.

One big reason to go here is for the macadamia nut pancakes. If I ever want macadamia nut pancakes I'll come here. They're very unique in a sense that they have this not syrup but sweet cream that tastes amazing with their fluffy pancakes.

Their saimin is also very good. Lots of noodles for the price. Mac potato salad was yummy too.

I had the chow mein and mixed veggies before but I'd pass on them. They were very bland.

Prices were a bit high for the type of place it is (a shack right off the freeway). The booths were also very uncomfortable from the uneveness of the seats. They need replacement booths now.

Finally got to go here today and I have a few things to share.  4.5 stars is the rating (Damn you Yelp for not allowing half stars?  When will you learn?)

Anyways, sorry for the side rant.

The family running this are really cool.  Pops was our waiter, and was friendly and helpful.  Mama was in the back, occassionally bringing out drinks to customers on her little cool scooter thingy.  (Side note 2 coming):  I can see she has some kind of health issue, but I admire the hell outta her for still being a functional contribution to the world!  Way to go Mama!  She told me they had been there for 19 years!  (More applause)

My table had three different burgers, side of fries, side of spam musubi, drinks, and a couple shaved ices.  Those burgers were the bomb.  Officially, this is my new fave burger place!  I liked the regular cheese burger with thousand island dresssing....the teriyaki sauce burger was good, but just a little too sweet for me.  Burgers were too big to fit in your mouth...NO, that is most definitely NOT a bad thing!!!  Wow, they were awesome.  You had to flatten them before attempting to insert into your taste bud housing.   Fries were average, Spam musubi was very good, and the shave ice was shave ice....but in a HUGE portion!  Loved it.

The kitchen was small and seemed a bit crowded...but hell, I ain't eating in the kitchen!  The dining room was small as well, but not cramped.  Place was clean and had nice air flow through it.

I saw lots of other patrons and their dishes, everything really looked good.  I saw they had daily specials, and I can't wait to get back there and try different things.  Prices seemed  reasonable...we spent an average of 12.33 per person, including meal, side dishes, dessert, and tip.   I think you should go try this place!   I will update Yelpville when I experience more there.

Service is a bit slow but the food is authentically Hawaiian. It's family owned and operated, which is great. I can't believe I never knew about this place!

The boyfriend and I ordered the small macadamia nut pancakes, breakfast platter with chasiu and kaluha pork, and spam musibi. I've never eaten spam except in musibi form and this place has the best one i've ever had! It will make a spam convert out of you.

The chasui wasn't the typical Chinese kind - a bit shredded and too sweet with glaze, but was still very good. A drizze of soy sauce over the rice and eggs ... mmmmmm! The lady next to me was eating chow mein with chasiu and veggies and it looked GREAT.

Great Food and the lady that owns the place is super wonderful and friendly and really takes care of you. Walked in and felt like I was back in the islands and when I got the food, it definitely took me back, all I needed was the mac nut pancake I was eating, some kona coffee and the view of the pacific ocean and it's all good. Definitely the place to go if you want some Ono Grindz:)

... If your going with the group try the A La Carte, You get to taste pretty much everything you want, and everything is too good to pass up:)

A friend turned me on to this place several years ago.
Mom and Pop food place, very friendly and great Hawaiian/Asian food.

    I have had and recommend:
    spam msubi rolls.
    Chashu and eggs
    Kahlua pork
    Lomi lomi
    Macadamia pancakes.
Save room for the Hawaiian shave ice.

Betty and Ernie are great, and always remember us even if we haven't been in a while.  Great food, really nice people, good times.

    Enjoy!

Pros: The best macadamia pancakes ever (you will never forget it), Pretty good food but not at its best like in hawaii, No one really comes to this place so parking & dinning is pretty much all to yourself & your friends/family, Its a unexpected place.

Cons: The place can look nicer (it has a hawaii feel to the place but im not sure how to explain myself on how it can look nicer).

i think i will try it again ..i jus have to be in the mood for the place.

Agree with Leesa M's review :-).   I would imagine this to be Home cooked style food Hawaiian families eat during laid back weekends mornings.

I ordered the Breakfast plate with Kahlua Pig and sausage (comes with 3 eggs and rice). The Kahlua pig was like a pork stew with a smokey hint of flavor, you can tell it was cooked for a very long time to achieve the tenderness. I liked Kahlua Pig over the Char siu that my friend ordered.   Also tried the banana mac nut pancakes, good and nutty with the mystery sauce.

Gets pretty busy during lunch hours, thats why you send your friends to go first and get a table for you :-P  jk..  don't do that, its not nice.

Either I ordered the wrong food, or just don't like Hawaiian food, I am a bit confused with the high ratings of this place.  I was actually fairly disappointed.

This place is a hole-in-a-wall.  The booth seats were not comfortable at all.  When the bf and I walked into the restaurant on a Saturday morning, the place was quite busy.

Since it was our first time coming here, I checked on yelp to see what everyone else recommended.  Without hesitation, we ordered the macadamia pancake.  Yes, it's a bit different because they served sweet cream with chopped macadamia nuts on top.  Bf didn't expect the pancake to be huge and ordered the large.

The sweet cream is unique and special (1 star for the uniqueness).  However, they put way too much on the pancakes!  We left most of the cream out as it got way too sweet for us.  I don't typically turn down sweet, yummy food, but I couldn't handle it.  I ordered a breakfast plate with eggs and sausage.  The sausage was pretty greasy, but tasted alright.  It also came with rice.

Not sure if I wanted to give this place another try.

My friend had been raving about this place and I'm glad I finally got to try it myself today with her..

I ordered the Breakfast Plate with Cha Siu and Kahlua Pig... both were really good..  I'd recommend both but i think the Kahlua Pig is a MUST TRY!!

the Mac nut pancake was pretty good too but I think there was too much of that custard/cream over the top as I found myself scraping a lot of it off... definitely different and interesting

"The Works".. I love that they have the shaved ice with condensed milk, ice cream and azuki beans.

I really wanted to try their banana nut mac, it wasn't what I had expected but it was alright.  Their char siu is bomb btw.  The service felt like home and I would come here again.  The shaved ice will make me keep coming of course.

Not much of a "food factory", Aloha's ambiance could be better described as a "food sweatshop". It's a family run establishment in the carcass of a former 1970's era Taco Bell, The food was mediocre and the dining area looked pretty shitty. Sorry to be so blunt, but I really value how a restaurant looks and how clean it is. Come on now...if the dining area is dirty and unkempt can you imagine what the kitchen looks like? To Aloha's credit, they did have a big blue "A" hanging up so they kitchen couldn't have been that bad (at least for 20 minutes the Health Dept. was there).

As for the food, the teriaki chicken was ok but doesn't compare to my beloved B-Man's or even Yama, Apparently the charsiu and macadamia pancakes are the big hit here. I didn't try those, but if I ever come back (low odds of that) I'll give them a try. But...I have to give Aloha some props for having beer on the menu.

Two stars for you (one for each pile of old newspapers next to your broken fax machine)!
