There are several Hawaiian restaurants in the Bay Area, but Aloha is the most authentic! The kahlua pork is served just right and most dishes come with lomi lomi, macaroni salad, rice and haupia. This restaurant also supports local Hawaiian culture, so if you're lucky you may see a local band playing Hawaiian tunes or some dancers from a local halau! They also cater events, from small office parties to full-blown luaus!
UPDATE: The restaurant closed down sometime in 2005 since the strip mall is undergoing construction. But catering is still available on their website (or call). http://www.alohafamily...

This is the best local food I've tasted on the mainland. On par with my Auntie's kitchen (just in case she ever figures out how to Yelp). The owners are parents of one of my good friends, but even if I didn't know her I would still make friends with her for their teriyaki sauce and kalua pork. I don't cook, so I married a man who can and see no problem with basing my social circle on people who can feed me. None at all!
Aloha Family only does catering now, which is a shame because I cannot get my long rice fix whenever. Still, the Nashiros are professionals and if you hire them for your luau, you will not have to worry about the food, the kitchen or their staff. You will have to worry about keeping flammables away from the fire-knife dancer but that's at any party, right?

The flavors are authentic and the portions are comparable to the huge ones you get on the island. However, how does one justify paying about $12 for a plate lunch when on the island, it goes for between $5-$8?
