Astoria, OR
Discovered this little gem as we were leaving another eatery. Sadly, we had just finished a meal there, so after popping into Aloha Charlie's, I promised "Aloha Jenny" that we'd be back. One week later, I kept my promise and am so very glad that I did. Simply amazing !!! The freshest seafood at the most reasonable prices that I have seen on the coast. Jenny even remembered us, though being a 6ft 2in Irish lad in a kilt, I am hard to forget (wink).
Simple, no frills eatery that offers the freshest seafood at the lowest prices. The owner Marty is a really cool lad and was such fun to talk with. He is one of the last of the honest business owners and deserves your patronage. He delivers honest, fresh food at a great price. Aloha Jenny is awesome too!! She made me some of the best oysters that I have had in ages. Pan fried with love and skill that made them taste like the ones that I make at home for myself. Cooking oysters is an art that many can't quite capture. Jenny is an artist of the highest caliber. Her young age coupled with her skills in the kitchen have me seeing a future high-end chef in the making if she so chooses.
Marty takes pride in his eatery and his product. He even made me break down and try smoked tuna. OK, lad, you win!! Really damn good. (coming from a guy that doesn't like tuna this says volumes).
Do yourself a favour and try Aloha Charlies. All of the menu items are fresh, and the samplings that I saw come out of the kitchen were a testament to quality. My partner's fish and chips were perfectly battered and fresh, thick, and crumbly. Marty's fresh made tarter sauce and cocktail sauce can't be beat as well.
My only complaint is that they don't have fresh tea, and soft drinks are in bottles. But that doesn't even blip on the radar when you get such good, fresh food at these prices.
Gold star Marty and Jenny!!!!! You now have a new regular customer.
PS If you are hungry...really hungry.... get the all you can eat option. This is the only place on the North Coast / Peninsula that I can get my oysters with this option. -

I had to try this place because I noticed it had great reviews on yelp. Unfortunately, I can't say that I enjoyed my food here as much as the other reviewers. I ordered the maui tacos with oysters and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp po-boy. My maui tacos were definitely overdressed with the mango and red onions (too overpowering) and over seasoned with paprika. As for the shrimp po-boy, yes they were generous on the shrimps but it was way too big to pick up and eat like a sandwich. We ended up picking at our food and just eating the seafood by itself--which was extremely flavorful...we just didn't need all the extras on the plate.
I did appreciate the cleanliness of the staff, after each order they washed their hands thoroughly and wore gloves while handling food.
Down side--we reeked of fried food when we stepped out of the place. A better vent or a door open would help get some fresh air circulating. -

Great fish. Service was awesome, even though there was just one employee at the place.
Clam chowder, while not traditional, was super good. -

Best steamers, oyster shooters and dungeness I've ever had. Totally MADE our anniversary weekend. Lunch was so good we went back for dinner! Thanks!

They have a fresh seafood market and a cafe next door. I had the $10 crab special which had a half of a crab, garlic bread and pasta salad. I can't wait to go back!

Five of us were doing a sort of road trip around the coast and we found ourselves famished by the time we were in Long Beach. Yelp came to the rescue, with its amazing community of reviewers, and helped us find this darling little seafood restaurant/deli.
Everything about this place is ideal for a casual fish and chip dining experience. As far as decor goes, they went with the bare minimum and a cute menu on the wall. It's basically a seafood shop with a small dining area attached to the side.
The people running the place were super friendly and happy to serve us even though we could tell they were pretty busy. Turns out, it was all-you-can-eat fish & chips day. So we had all the fishes and pan-fried oysters and chips that we could possibly eat. The staff actually seemed GLAD to keep feeding us all the oysters they could supply. The made sure we were well stocked on condiments and frequently came by to see if we needed anything.
The food was so good, too. The chowder did not appear to be out of a can but homemade and DELICOUS, with just a hint of spiciness. The oysters were cooked to perfection, as were the fish. This was one of the best meals I've had all year.
I wish I could visit Long Beach more often just so I could eat here all the time. It's seriously a great place to visit when you're doing a Pacific NW coastal drive. Thank you for such a great experience, Aloha!! -

Augh...this place is sooo good. I only get frusterated because I live so far away and I can't frequent them as much as I like. I went in because I wanted clam chowder and oyster shooters. Both were deeeelicious. The chowder was the best I've had and the shooters were so fresh and the best part was you can take the shot glasses home. :)
That was all we went in for but during our visit the owner (I believe) was handing out huge samples of his freshly smoked tuna and salmon, deeelicious as well, I walked out and cleaned out all their smoked salmon. The guy was super nice as well. Good food and good service, that's hard to find. -

Yelp saved the day again. My friend and I were on a mini Sunday adventure and looking for some eats. Not sure we would've found this place without Yelp. What did we do before Yelp? Cried mostly.
When I'm at the coast I like to find seafood. We knew we were heading up this way and after a quick search we came up with this little number.
The sad part about coming to these coastal towns when the weather turns is that most of them are like ghost towns. Not many people wandering around and my friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant when we walked in the door. I guess that is the price you pay for having a business such as this on the coast. Slammed in the summer, dead in the winter. Some more people came in while we were eating so we weren't the only ones in town on this day.
The kind of weather on this day immediately called for a cup of the Northwest Clam Chowder here ($4). This is not your typical Chowdah (I am not from New England, but I am from south of that part of the country) as it has clams (really?), red potatoes, pepper bacon, celery, carrots, cream and fresh herbs and a nice steamer clam thrown in for good measure. This is a mighty fine cup of chowder if I say so myself. I think I just did say so myself. Not too thick as to be able to hang wallpaper, but also not loose, it was right down the middle. It certainly hit the spot.
My friend wasn't hungry, but I was so I also got a Pacific Po'Boy with shrimp ($9.50). Shredded lettuce, tomato and a very airy french roll accompany this. I opted out of the chive mayo and went with some of the Louisiana hot sauce they had on the table. The shrimp were fried to perfection and the french roll was really tasty. I wouldn't tell you this reminded me of the Po'Boys I ate years ago down in New Orleans, but it still was very good. This is served with Hawaiian Chips. Your choice of onion or BBQ.
We had a nice chat with the guy working there. I'm guessing he was the owner. Maybe even Aloha Charlie himself. Seemed friendly enough and his service was spot on.
If you find yourself here within the next few months, let them know they should stay open during the winter by giving them some business. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. -

So I have had lunch here three times. I have had the clam chowder, mahi mahi tacos, and the Fish Wich. Everything has been outstanding. They pull the fish out of the market case to cook for your lunch and they also steam a few clams in the shell to sit on top of the clam chowder.
The fish market side is just as good. Local fresh fish with knowledgeable staff to help you decide. They also sell their own canned tuna and smoked tuna. The smoked tuna is amazing and comes I little vacuum bags to walk around with.
Got to meet the owner during one lunch and I am certain this place will keep me coming back every time I am in long beach. -

This is the kind of place that most yelpers should like. Fresh, local food, priced fairly. These people definitely care about quality.
This is basically a fish market with a small kitchen and about 5 or 6 tables. Very fresh, for sure. No frills setting. Order at the register and sit down. My oyster po boy was delicious, as was the clam chowder.
So many places in tourist towns are either overpriced, or don't care that much about a top quality product. This would be a good bet for lunch though, or a quick, early dinner. Closes as 7:00 pm, just so you know! -

Super friendly staff.
Nice collection on the menu.
They accommodated our kids with some really kick ass hot dogs (weird for us to get this at a fish market but our kids are sometimes lacking in the food adventurer department).
We had the fish tacos.
They were very attractive in appearance, the fish was absolutely fresh, but the flavor was bland and lackluster.
I would assume that these fish tacos would knock the socks off lots of folks whose palates are into 'less bold' flavors.
The fries were decent.
The fish market looked a little picked over/sparse. Because it was early/mid-week I would assume they stock their coolers for the weekend when there's a big crowd of vacationers.
We would definitely come back here because there were other items on the menu that I think WOULD knock my socks off... -

Mmm... Family ordered the (rock)fish and chips and it came out quick, piping hot, and was delicious! Everything was crisp and the tartar was great with both the fish and the fries. Also ordered a cup of chowder and my kids (ages 5 and 3) loved it. Very flavorful! Only bummer is that I was planning to order the oyster po' boy and was informed they had run out of lettuce for the sandwiches. :-( I wasn't disappointed with the fish though!

Tasty food and friendly staff. The clam chowder was excellent; likewise, the fish-wich. The one drawback was slow service because only one person was running the entire show - waiting tables as well as tending the market, grill and register! If not for that, this place would have rated four stars. Will give it another shot next time we're in the area.

Excellent! I would definitely eat here again. They closed for a few months but now they are back open. My husband and I had the fish and chips and a shrimp cocktail. The fish was flaky and very nicely fried. Service was fast and friendly. If you are looking for a moderately priced restaurant that does sandwiches, fish and chips, and soups you have found it!

This place has fantastic food and some of the friendliest people working there. We tried the chowder, fish and chips and fish sandwich - all of it was really great. Plus, they have great treats for your dog as well. I would highly recommend!

This joint has one side that is a fish market and the other side is a fish bar. Fortunately I can review both sides! I went to the fish bar for lunch and got the mahi mahi taco special. The fish was prepared in a healthy way (it seems like all of the fish restaurants in Long Beach only prepare fried fish...ew). Very delicious and affordable prices, their salsa was delicious. The ladies working the register were very sweet as well.
I came back a few hours later to purchase a piece of fish for dinner, not only did they offer to pin bone for me. I sheepishly asked if they had some foil since I didn't want to have to go to the store to purchase a whole roll for one piece of fish. No questions asked they pulled a few sheets off their roll and put them in the bag.
Such kind people, knowledgeable of the product, and a delicious product to boot. -

Can you say fresh? It doesn't get frayed then this, they make it fresh in front of you, the ingredients are local as they can be, and the people working are very friendly, Chowder is good, the Fish and Chips were fresh and light, and crap was great as well as the Oysters were HUGE, fresh and tasty.

Tiny place, very friendly employee. Only one gal doing everything (waitress, cook, & teller in one) so service was slow but acceptable. Salmon fish & chips was excellent. Rockfish unfortunately wasn't as good. Cooked perfectly but was quite fishy tasting. Fries were very, very good. If we lived closer, we would definitely go back however to try the chowder. The people beside us had the chowder and the ciopprino, both of which looked absolutely fantastic.
