I'm not much of a hat guy myself, but I needed something to keep my head cool on the bike and a wee bit more. I knew about alloneword from friends in the bike party, and I got to meet Mary at the SF Bike Expo. 10 minutes later, I walk away with a houndstooth pattern cycling cap that fit me perfectly. It works well under 2 of my helmets and I even wear it as normal headgear! A bit on the spendy side but this is locally made artisan product here guys. Check Mary's goods out when you get the chance!

I came across Mary's hats all over the place all at the same time - I saw someone wearing one and it caught my eye, there was an article in Alameda Magazine and then I saw them in person at Alameda Bicycle. I was all ready to buy one but one problem - I have a little head and the hats were too big.
So I found her on Etsy and sent an email and the next thing I know, she was making my cycling hat just the way I wanted it AND sized to fit my small head! When it was ready she let me know, and I rode over to her house to try it on. And Mary is so great, she had made 2 hats sized a little differently so I could choose which one fit me best! (Turns out I have a "small" head and not a "tiny" head. Ha ha!)
I hung out in her studio while she pulled out trim and I chose my favorite. Then while I waited she sewed it on oh so carefully, sewed in a tag and handed it over. I love it! Perfect hat, just my size, exactly what I wanted and all handmade with care by Mary. Excellent! -

I have acquired a total of 5 hats from Mary, and every one has exceded my expectations. There are three for me, one for my girlfriend, and one for my 8-year-old son.
I have referred a few customers to Mary, and they tell me they are very happy with their hats.
My favorite plaid dress shirt was torn, and I asked Mary if she could use the leftover fabric to make a hat (or two). My girlfriend's hat was made from the re-used garment, and the finished product was OUTSTANDING! The pattern lined up at the seams, and she even added an offset flower accent, using the shirt buttons in the center.
If you want something that's truly unique, well-made, with unsurpassed fit and style, look no further. These hats are that good.
