Great breakfast and lunch. The omelets and scrambles are delicious, not too greasy, and they have at least 5 kinds of sausage and lots of well prepared fresh veggies for them as well.

Hash browns are traditional and fruit is fresh. The raspberry jam is divine as they make it themselves. The biscuits are good but do NOT expect a traditional flavor. They are more like a sweet bread.

Turkey croissant sandwich and salad bar for lunch? Yes, please!

BEST food a friendly service near the Pacific View Mall.

This place had been my favorite breakfast house until a couple weeks ago where I experienced the worst customer service in a restaurant.

I was in town visiting my friends & family so we decided, lets go support the small businesses instead of going to Ihop or Mimis Cafe.

As we walked-in, we were not greeted or acknowledged, I was surprised. We then sat down and about 10 minutes later we were approached by our waitress, friendly. We ordered our food and waited. I always order the "Jeff's Favorite" and a glass of OJ. When our drinks and food arrived, the waitress said she was going on her break and that another server would take care of us. I took a sip of my OJ and it was watered down, I waited to get attention from an employee but they ignored me. I took a bite of the bacon and it was semi-warm but over cooked (burnt). We then were able to get a gentleman's attention and I addressed the issue, he questioned me about the OJ after I explained how it tasted like water and my bacon was over cooked. He didn't apologize and also gave me attitude. The OJ & bacon was replaced but not with a smile. After that, we were not checked on again.

As we approached the register, the cashier smiled and asked how everything was, I responded saying "it was ok", she then asked "just ok?" and did not even bother asking what the issue was or seemed to care. We asked to have our check split and she replied saying "next time you should ask before you come up". She was upset and did not thank us.

I will never step a foot in this place again. If small business owners want to stay in business and not be overtaken by a chain restaurant, make sure your employees are on top of their game because 'Allisons" just lost my business and a couple of my friends as well.

Just another place with good biscuits & jam with above average portions. If it wasn't for the jam and biscuits I would really go out of my way for this place...

I ordered am omelet and got what I ordered but nothing special about it or the potatoes that came with it. The portions are fine but the food wasn't anything more then your average tasting food. The only saving grace was the biscuits and jam. Unless you live  in venture I wouldn't recommend this place for the drive or food if you live out of town.

The wait can be long especially on the weekends. Is it worth it? No. All around the service and food are ok or slightly above average, but they are pricier than other options in town. On one occasion I requested they remake the sausage 3 times because it was burned. At one time they were at the top of my list as far as breakfast options goes, but really there are more reasonable and/or less expensive alternatives in town.

    I dig it.

I was in SoCal visiting family and they told me I "must" eat here before I drive back to the Bay Area. Anyway, it reminds me of a small town atmosphere a lot of regulars which seem to know all of the waitresses. Glad my wife wasn't with me, as they are all easy on the eyes and super friendly. =)

I had the corned beef hash and eggs. I was told it's made from their own briskets so no canned job here. Eggs and hash browns were fantastic. My toast came with some home made jam that was easily spreadable and tasted great.

Looks like the biscuits are off the hook going to have to try them next.

Next time I'm in Ventura I'll make sure to plan a stop here!

This place is just the bomb!!  No matter what I order, it is always very good. The biscuits and their "homemade" jam has to be the best in the county!!!  This is always a sure hit if your looking for a great breakfast place. Most tables sit up to 4 people with three large table for 6 people. It does get crowded and there could be a wait if you arrive on their peek hours 8 am to 10 am  but if your not in too much of a hurry, it's worth the wait.

I've been coming here since as long as I can remember, probably by the age of four. I have gladly waited 45 minutes to an hour for a table after church on Sundays. It was always a race to get to Allison's before everyone else from church got there. Alas, I don't come as often anymore since I no longer go to church in Ventura.

I came back in last week and remembered all the amazing things I love about this place. Of course the biscuits and jam are amazing as everyone has said. They even sell their jam. It's that good. They also have a variety of sausages that vary by meat for whatever diet you're currently on. All of them are fantastic. The portions are ginormous and I always end up taking home leftovers.

Seriously, the people complaining about a $10 omelette? You get a huge omelette with a ton of fresh ingredients in it, potatoes or a large serving of extremely freshly cut fruit (seriously, they must cut them for each plate because the edges of the bananas weren't even slightly mushy like when you cut them an hour before and dump them in with the rest of the fruit), and you get two of the largest biscuits known to man with homemade jam. Where do you normally have breakfast at, McDonald's? I'm sure you still pay $6 for that artery clogging food that's about half the amount of food you get at Allison's. If you don't have leftovers after you've dined at Allison's you're a beast (and I envy you if you're still svelte).

Also, you can't get better service. They always have the best servers, they split food for you in the kitchen, and they've always gotten every order right.

There are only two things I'm not so keen about at Allison's: One is the coffee and two is the decor. The coffee is drinkable, but since I'm not a must-drink-coffee-every-day person, I skip it here. As far as the decor goes, it's been the same since I've been going there (close to 20 years now), and could definitely use a change. For some reason though all the good breakfast places in Ventura have terrible decor. So maybe it's a rule that if you have good food you can't have good decor. I choose the food!

Holy biscuits I love this place. Yes, the wait is long...yes, they are only open in the earlier part of the day...yes, you will run into at least five people you know--but those biscuits...and that jam.

This is the type of place that doesn't cut corners. When you order fruit instead of potatoes, you get a lot of really fresh, varied fruit--blueberries, melon, grapes, strawberries, banana, probably snozberries if you asked nicely. The eggs are always cooked perfectly, the butter is whipped in the kitchen, the jam and salsa are homemade--and did I mention the biscuits? This is hands down my favorite place to get breakfast in Ventura.

Solid breakfast choice with several years of best of awards.

Tried the Corned beef hash with eggs over easy and home fries.   Biscuit was huge and fluffy as advertised.  The raspberry jelly was quite delicious.  Made me want to try it with a Monte Cristo.

Unique kids menu with choice of shaped pancakes.  (Ours chose the teddy bear).

Worth the stop if you are in the area!

Don't be fooled by my 3 star rating.  This is an A-OK place with enthusiasm.

Hubby and I drove into Ventura early a.m. and wanted to find a non-corporate, ugly box, restaurant for breakfast.  Ventura has a great downtown on Mainstreet, but don't go there looking for breakfast.  Those place don't open until later in the morning for early lunches.

So, being, the sagacious individual I can sometimes be, I asked the gentleman behind me in line at Starbucks if he had ever eaten at the Sidecar.  He said this, "Nope, and I don't know anyone else who has ever eaten there either."  This peaked my interest.  So I tell him, that the idea of having to eat at a Denny's or Carrow's or McDonald's on this early a.m. road trip makes me extremely sad.  Can you help me out I say.

So friendly Starbucks man says, the locals here go to Allison's Cafe.  I show him my map and it's just a block or two away from the Sidecar.  Great, we are off to check this out.

Well, if you've ever been to Ocean Beach in San Diego and had breakfast at The Old Townhouse Restaurant on Newport, this place is ALMOST just like that; only difference is they have some funky country decor, but it adds the character we love in non-corporate places.

The breakfast was good, standard fare.  The service was GREAT and quick.  No fuss and old fashioned checks.  Lots of locals, older guys, familys and a group of 30-40 something guys sharing breakfast on a Thursday morning before work.  I like that!

Steak and Eggs as just the right size and hubby had an omelet with cottage cheese, no extra charge.

    Go, you'll like it :)

Pretty good fare for breakfast, here.

We shared a chicken fried steak entree and the waitress made sure the kitchen split it for us.  Each plate came with a decent chunk of home breaded tenderized steak, potatoes, and one egg.  And of course, we had to try the biscuits.  They gave us two, and each was the size of a baseball, and obviously made from scratch.  The gravy was served on the side, and was deliciously thick and creamy, with chunks of ham and maybe sausage too. So we got to try the raspberry jam too, maybe not the best I have ever had, but decent.

The restaurant is long and narrow, not really ideal for large groups, but that was not our priority for just the two of us.  We enjoyed our meal and our waitress ( a very tall young woman, and hopefully not the tall one that Christopher G had an experience with, as she was delightful, upbeat, and gave great attention to our needs).

We will remember this place for next time we are in town.

I had to give this down home, fabulous restaurant a good review because I have been going here for YEARS. I am pushing forty..gulp! and have enjoyed this place since high school! The portions are generous and the homemade biscuits with their home made jam are REALLY the best. Just make sure that you DON"T get Krisa as a waitress! On my last visit to my most beloved breakfast joint...she was so rude that it really made me want to leave!
I always come in the back door and wait for the tables near the salad bar where using the high chair isn't a problem...

I guess you love Allison's Country Cafe or you hate it.  I don't hate the place, but my experience this morning wasn't great.  We needed to grab a bite to help soak up the booze that was consumed the night before.  We've been to the Galloping Hen before which was great, but in the spirit of trying new places I choose Allison's.

I've heard about the crowds, but was certain this would not effect us as it was a Monday around 11:00 a.m.  There were a few small two top tables available when we arrived, but decided to wait for a booth.  Waited about five minutes and tried to sit down in the booth.  Are you kidding me?  I'm not as slim as I used to be but this was ridiculous.  The table was cutting my gut in half.

Okay, okay, I'm built like a juke box with a 44 waist but I am 6' 1" and carry it well!  There's no way I'm holding my breath for the duration of lunch while actually adding to the problem.  Minus one star for making me feel fat.  Your booths are way too small.

We take one of the two tops and browse the menu.  No eggs Benedict.  Shit, minus one more star.  A well known breakfast house that doesn't serve eggs benny?  Oh well.

Back to the menu.....Hey.....this place is expensive!  Like $2.00 to $5.00 more than most breakfast restaurants.  $11.30 for chicken fried steak and eggs?  $10.00 omelettes?  Better be good I thought to myself.  The Q of R looks up and tells me this place is expensive.

"Yah, I know"!  Minus another star.

Nothing was really grabbing us on this menu, so we decided to just split a tuna melt with fries.  The waitress was cool about it.  Had to ask for coffee refill, but it was no big deal.  Tuna melt arrives.  They did split the order and had garnish on both plates.  That's cool.

Steak fries are molten lava hot out of the fryer.  No complaints.  Tuna sandwich is kinda sweet.  I guess they use sweet pickles in there and it's weird.  Better to just make it with celery, onion, and mayo.  They use jack cheese instead of American.  Not the way I'd go on that.  I'm not loving it, and neither is she.

One grapefruit juice, one coffee, and a tuna melt came to $15.50 with the $1.00 split charge.  Left her $3.00 bucks and we hit the road.

My husband and I just moved to Ventura and were looking for a really great breakfast place.  (Our favorite place in Santa Barbara where we are regulars is in Summerland at the Summerland Beach Cafe.)
We have eaten at numberous breakfast places in town and have found ourselves eating here often.  (Pete's is good but it's always packed.  Eggs N' Things is consistent but just good...not best in town great.  Cajun Kitchen I would definitely recommend and is great food but we always used to go there and just want something different.)
The prices here are reasonable and pretty much the same prices you would expect at the other places around town.  The service here is what makes the place the most unique.  The servers are always in such a pleasant mood and I love the there doesn't seem to be much turnover with the staff.  The pancakes are melt in your mouth yummy.  If you choose biscuits with your omelette beware.  They are freakin' huge and you get not one but two!  The raspberry jam is delicious and I had that on my pancakes instead of syrup.  We love this place and highly recommend!

Through wit, charm, & promise of a good breakfast, I convinced Deb to join me for an early morning workout at the gym. We did all the right exercises, including cardio & weight lifting, so a hearty breakfast was well earned & justified.

I ordered the Allison Special which included eggs, bacon, pancakes, & a Belgian waffle. Deb went for the "build your own" option which included eggs, potatoes, biscuits & gravy. Both were tasty, very filling & just what the cardiologist ordered.

This place offers good breakfast selections, rocket fuel disguised as coffee, and very attentive service. I'm looking forward to a visit for lunch after seeing one of their club sandwiches pass by our table.

First off: Best giant biscuits in the universe! When you first get to Allison's you will probably have to wait but don't let that deter you. Bring a newspaper or something to entertain yourself because this is a local favorite (voted best breakfast place every year). The restaurant is basically a giant hallway so if you want a secluded breakfast getaway this isn't the place for you. However, the food is excellent and the prices reasonable (about $30 for two people).

My favorite dishes are the Carissa's Ventura and the Al's Avocado omelette. Bonus points if you can find the Ronald Reagan cigarette ad.

Anyone who says the waitresses are rude and not friendly must've woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Last time I had brunch at Allisons, our waitress, Cindy, was absolutely amazing! She was so nice and checked on our table multiple times to check for refills and to make sure our order was up to standard. This isnt the first time Ive recieved great service from Allisons either. Ive never had a bad experience here, which is why Ill keep coming back.

Their food was equally amazing as their staff. I had a turkey sandwich with yummy french fries. Any sandwich Ive ever ordered here has been so delicious! You must try this place!!!

Generous portions of food and everything I've tried is delicious.
Great wait staff - minus the occasional teen dude they have - but overall very friendly, helpful and not bad eye candy. :)

I'm inclined to say I wish it was bigger to reduce the wait but then it might lose some of it's charm.

As mentioned by others the biscuits are HUGE, tasty and are a meal by themselves.

We showed up at 8am on a rainy Saturday. I was thinking that we were already 'too late' and were in for a wait because this place is small and only has a handful of tables. As we pulled up we saw that there was no parking in front, and the back parking lot was just about full. I was worried as we approached the door, but luckily we were seated right away and had our drink orders taken by a friendly waitress. They had a highchair available for my son which was nice because we would have been in trouble if they didn't.

I ordered the deluxe biscuits & gravy which were delicious but a little too much to finish, you easily can split an order with someone. They come with bacon and sausage pieces sprinkled on top which makes them awesome in my book. The wife got something called the '1/2 order' which came with eggs, pancakes, meat etc. We were able to get out for $22 + tip.

This is an excellent breakfast spot. But, I like to sleep in on weekends and this place can become difficult if you arrive too late. By the time we left it was 9am and a few people were lined up waiting for tables. But on the flip side that is a good endorsement for the food. People line up and wait to eat here.

Roadtrip! Driving the girl back up to college. Sadness, but since the trip took us through Ventura, we had to stop at my most favorite breakfast place ever.

I'm writing this on my droid, so I'll keep it short: best damn biscuits and gravy anywhere. I"m serious. The Deluxe Biscuits and Gravy comes covered with fresh bacon and sausage crumbles. Homemade biscuits are fluffy and huge. Gravy is better than mom's.

The place is packed on the weekends so expect a wait. But, it's worth it!

True to other reviews, you do have a wait to get in.  I think we hit it on a Saturday morning at about 10ish and had about a 20 min. wait.  Not too bad really.  It is a small but quant restaurant with great service.  I will definitely be going back!!

The food is definatly four star but the tall cashier/hostess lady definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. It was a week day around 11 and I was waiting for a friend. There was three open tables and no wait. She refused to seat me until my friend arrived and was openly rude about it. I'm a very polite person and there was no excuse for her attitude. Hey, it's not Denny's.

    Waitresses are fit.
But not me. I know. Oh no.
    Here comes the biscuits.

Additional Notes: Omelettes are served with your choice of either fruit or potatoes (O'Brien or Hash), and Biscuits or Sourdough bread with jam.  For some reason I recommend sourdough because the biscuits are more heavy and 'bready.'  In addition, their applesauce tastes like Mott's.  **Also black olives, tomatoes, and scallions.

The Bottom Line:  13/20  Arguably better than Eggs N' Things, Allison's is ALWAYS busy.  Their food is definitely above average (yet conservative), but it's also something you can make at home.  If you can't cook, then I guess this is one of the better breakfast options in the 805.

In recent years, Allison's has become a crowded weekend breakfast place in midtown Ventura; perhaps too popular.   On weekends there's a mob waiting outside until noon so we don't go very often.  Last time was on a Wednesday morning.

Its somewhat cramped inside, the menu pricey for diner breakfasts, and the service is rushed and spotty.  The menu is standard fare; omelets, hash browns & pancakes, etc; not exactly a challenge.  My poached egg was served naked and watery in a dish!  That's like serving a hamburger with no bun. I had to order a slice of dry toast.  And I had to pick shell out of the egg too.  The pancakes were kind of rubbery and overdone.  Allison's may be popular socializing place, but it's off our list as a place for a good breakfast.

Oddly enough, this cafe was recommended to us from a friend in Taiwan. To clarify, he used to live in Ventura. He insisted that we eat there. He was right... it did not not disappoint.

If you're looking for a down home country breakfast you've found the right spot. The biscuits and gravy were crazy good with just the right about of ham shavings in the gravy.

The blueberry pancakes were delicious, and they sprinkled more fresh blueberries all over them. Well doused in maple syrup and butter, I think had the whole stack eaten in less than 5 minutes.

The french toast was cooked to perfection. The fresh strawberry jam was awesome - had to get extra.

Didn't have any coffee so I can't comment on that.

If you're on the fence as to whether to go... just go! You won't be disappointed.

My favorite spot for breakfast! I have driven down here from Goleta just for the delicious biscuits and breakfast..hmm-mm good!

Allison's is usually pretty busy for brunch on the weekends, but the food doesn't take too long to arrive. I like "Jeff's favorite"- 2 eggs (I get em scrambled with cheese), sausage or bacon, potatoes (hash or some other type), and toast or a biscuit (always go for the biscuit!) You can also get gravy with your biscuit, but I stick with their homemade raspberry jam.

The servings are big here, so I always end up taking extras home with me...They sell their jam so you can take some home with you for toast or what have you. Also, you can get biscuits to-go which is a nice option.  Thanks for the wonderful breakfast meals, Allison's. :)

Longest wait #1, most expensive 2 eggs, toast and hash browns #1, most likely place to go if you are really depressed and want to cry in a corner #1.

    ohhh my raspberry jam!!
i heard about the crowd so we went when i wasn't hungover and with a friend that was a regular.. we waited about 20 and shoved 3 of us in a booth.. yea their small but they fit 4 normal weight people..us Americans don't know what that is anymore...

i decided to go big and get the french toast.. dyl got the waffled with add blueberries of course and roger for the veggie omelet with onion ring appy before cause he said we haaad to try to rings.. yes the rings were perfect, just perfect. with ranch. thick crispy perfect onion rings. ugh

the waitress was super busy but on top of the necessities.. i asked for the homemade raspberry jelly instead of syrup cause i was told it wasn't something i should pass up and boy they were right.. when I'm going to go big and get french toast i like to indulge on the syrup but the jelly was exceptional. like really, i took some home..

all in all i was quite impressed and i will admit it will be Incorporated in my go to breakfast spots

Small, somewhat hard to find. Limited street parking - there is a small lot in back. Got in on a Sunday afternoon about 1pm - entered through the back door.

All the booths and tables were taken, so rather than wait, sat at the counter - about 5 seats there. It was busy - waited a bit for my order, but was served coffee right away.

Ordered "Al's" avocado and cheese omelet ($9.50) and coffee. Good but not great. Omelet came with potatoes and a side of two biscuits. These were large and somewhat raised roll-like, rather than traditional flaky biscuits. The raspberry jam was good but a bit thin, more like a sauce than preserves....

Favorite breakfast spot in Ventura, ALWAYS come on an empty stomach, because trust me, you will get filled up. First when you walk in there is usually a wait. You can have a seat in the waiting area as you sip on their coffee.. or you can go outside and they'll call your name. Once seated, you're greeted by one of the helpful, friendly servers.

I've had a variety from here, I've had the denver omelette, california omelette (my favorite) comes with avocado, jack cheese, bacon, cheese, and other omelettes as well, they all come with potatoes, biscuits or toast, biscuits is usually my pick =) sooo fluffy and delicious with the raspberry jam! i've had the pancakes with blueberry (delicious), french toast (yummy), allison's special i think it's called, you get 2 eggs any style, pancakes, bacon, potatoes, it's a l o t of food.

the restaurant itself is pretty small but comfy, you don't feel cramped, the service is friendly and attentive. the food is top notch breakfast food, the parking is all in luck. you either get street parking, or you don't, if not there's parking in the back.

Lovely mom and pops breakfast cafe.

There a very busy place on Sunday mornings. I was turned onto the biscuits and gravy. They were good. The gravy wasnt cooked all the way and still had a flour taste. Other than that. Service, prices were good. Id go back again.

This is definitely a must-go-to cafe.  Please try it!  Best biscuits hands down!  Eat them with gravy, but you better have them with their famous jelly!  omg!  I could go for some right now.  I can totally aspirate on the jelly and die happy. lol seriously

Just like it was mentioned from the earlier reviews in regards to service.  It can very busy at times.  Actually, all the damn time!  But it's so worth the wait.

Check it.  Hungover?  Go to Allison's!   Park on Telegraph or at back.  Tell someone who works there that you are there for the best dining experience ever.  They'll seat u as soon as a spot opens.  So you're sitting.  She's gonna ask if you're ready and you say "Yes."  You decide to get the Veggie Omelet.  Yum!  Then she asks if you want country fried potatoes or .....dude gnite.  Im gonna go first thing tomorrow morning. LOL

Fresh-esqueeze orange juice, as my family likes to say. They serve it and I love it.

Cute little place with people always moving about, whether it's the constant stream of people coming and going to eat, as well as the great and friendly staff bustling about to serve their delicious food. The menu has a good selection of breakfast/brunch food, and there may be some lunch things, but I had my eyes on brekkie food. I had the chorizo and egg dish, which was a bit too eggy for my taste, but good nonetheless. The place also carries this pepper sauce that is pretty good as well. For those who orders coffee, you get a little pot that stays on your table, which is nice, since you don't have to wait for a server to top you off.

My next visit (if I ever get to go again) I'll be sure to try their biscuits and gravy, which look decent, though I saw someone add pepper and a dash of salt on it, which concerns me, but overall, it's a great place to eat if you're in the area before 2pm.

Al's Avocado Omelet is probably my favorite breakfast meal anywhere.  It's simple, just egg, avocado and cheese, but they put avocado inside and on the top and go heavy on the cheese.  Add some of their yummy homemade salsa to the mix and you're set.  Absolutely delicious.

I pig out whenever I go to Allison's.  I get Al's Avocado and it comes with hash browns and two of their huge, fluffy biscuits with their homemade raspberry jam.  It's almost perfect as is.  But then I found out that you can get a cup of gravy on the side and pour it over your biscuits.  That's just about the only thing that could possibly be done to make the meal better.

So in one meal, I get my favorite omelet ever, my favorite biscuits and gravy ever, a big, full belly and a terrible need to exercise.  Too bad it usually ends with me on the couch the rest of the day.

I love Mom and Pop places like this!

It's a tiny little restuarant that specialize in breakfast and lunch. Me and a few buddies went during lunch time.

From what I have heard, the place can get busy. When i say it's tiny, it is TINY. Seats maybe about 40-50. All the tables are pretty close to each other and one hallway is very narrow. But I felt it added to the homeyness feel of the place.

The food is really good here. I had Corned Beef Hash, with eggs and potatoes. And might I say, it was tasty. Very fresh, very healthy, and not greasy and smelly one breakfast institution that we all go to (*cough*dennys*cough*). Oh by the way, GET THE BISCUITS! I don't care if you're in the mood for toast! They are too amazing to pass up!

Service could be a little bit more helpful. Don't get me wrong. All the waitress are all very very sweet and nice. But I think they got their hands tied up with many things. So don't get discouraged if they don't come around often. Don't be lazy - just get up and ask for whatever you need. Everyone loves to help out! I don't expect perfect service from a humble place such as Allison's. And you shouldn't either, Jerk. jk.

When I'm back in Ventura, I'll definitely come back. The SFV (my home) should take note and open up a shack this. Until they do, I'd be more than happy to dine here again.
