My family (husband and sister) and I train here. The instructors and the students here are all world class folks and some even have fan clubs and all sorts of following due to their fame and success. Though that being the case, they are all very down-to-earth about the art of BJJ and are all very approachable and accessible people that really care about your learning and progress without the flashy stuff that I've seen at other gyms around town (having multiple world champions around is great for humbleness).
Being a girl beginner, everyone assumes that you would only be comfortable training with other women. I can't speak for all girls but I could really care less what the gender of my training partners are as long as the training is good. But in case you care about this sort of thing, they do have plenty of women in this gym who come on a regular basis and smell a lot better than the guys.
Here, I have had a great experience training with people of all shapes and sizes who have all been very positive and encouraging to me as a beginner in the art. The large spectrum of levels here is really great for rounding out training and provides a great variety to the whole experience.
Currently, the pricing scheme works in a contractual form that can be annual, monthly, or customized to what works for you and life, which I found very helpful in comparison to other BJJ places that I've looked at around town. -

By far the best BJJ school you will find. I trained at Alliance for just over a year a few years back. I stopped going 4 years ago and regret it. I had tried a few other schools over the past 4 years and they are all a JOKE compared to Alliance. Jacare is the best instructor you will find this side of the equator. They train hard and train smart - they product champions (the schools records speak for themselves). I recently started going back to Alliance a few weeks ago - the school has grown significantly, but they still give the personal attention you need. It's a great way to get back in shape - I've been sore every day for the past 2 weeks, but it's a good type of sore. It feels good to be back! If you are thinking of taking BJJ anywhere - THIS IS THE PLACE. You will not find this quality of training anywhere else around.

day 30 training with jacare (alligator)
i spent the last 2 days training here. it's legendary and jacare is the head of the alliance team. some of the best guys have come out of alliance, including marcello garcia, cobrinha, fabio gurgel, franjinha, and chris moriarty.
i learned a lot of great techniques and got to roll with a lot of their tough guys. they were all getting ready for pan ams for jacare was matching people up and having them train 10 min rounds. it was exhausting.
i did end up losing a toe nail there haha. that's when you know you are training tough! but no one hurt me and there were no aggro guys, just guys all rolling tough. stuff i learned there i am sure i will continue to use!
i left my heart and rice in san francisco but i left my left big toe nail in atlanta!

The instruction and people there are top notch. There is definitely a reason why there are so many long standing students there. I feel very lucky to be able to train there.

I started training with Alliance when I met my now wife (she was also a student) but we have moved to another place because of proximity and to support our friend. All that aside, this place is also at the top for instruction. Jacare has trained so many champions and it's no wonder people go here. If you live OTP, it's got the perfect location but traveling from the city to classes was too much of a hassle for me. I still respect Jacare and his students so I wish them the best.
