The people in the other reviews are whiners that expect too much.
I lived here for a year and would have stayed, but circumstances being what they were we had to move.
You get what you pay for. This is a nice tower apartment complex, in a great location. And the views are fantastic. The manager lady Linda was very nice and always took good care of us. -

I would seriously ignore most of the negative reviews here and check out these apartments on your own accord. The property management knows you by first name and will legitimately taking a liking to your life.
The views here are my favorite in San Diego. I've lived in 5 apartments over the past 7 years in San Diego and this was by far my favorite.
Things I LOVE:
Amazing sunsets
Incredible sunrise
Convenient pool and hot tub
RiteAid in the building is perfect for items you need immediately
Craft and Commerce (San Diego's top bar/restaurant) is in the building. You even have your own hidden entrance to the restaurant
Friendly staff
Awesome place for a runner
Perfectly located in Little Italy
Things I didn't enjoy:
Annoying parrots in the lobby
Ridiculously loud trains late at night (I'm a heavy sleeper so I grew to ignore) -

I've never lived here but toured a unit while on the hunt. The condo I did rent has a view right into Allegro Towers and it reminds me of how glad I am I didn't move there instead. Why? Well first I will tell you all the negative reviews here were what I suspected. This is what I experienced on my tour:
Ghetto Management
The front office was unfriendly and the woman who helped my boyfriend and I was dressed like - and acted like - a security guard. The women in the office ignored us when we arrived and treated us like we were inconveniencing them. She finally did help us and took us up to see a filthy, trashed apartment which was recently vacated. It smelled like curry and we walked through in just enough time to check out the view. Which was nice.
Dirty Grounds and Unimpressive Building
The building is a big cement slab with no style. They could probably get away with it if not for for the view if they kept it neat and clean. Not the case. The experience starts with a ginormous bird cage in the lobby containing a filthy parrot. If you didn't find that special it gets better. At the time it was October and the lobby was decorated with dollar store Halloween webs and accessories. Not quite the look I was expecting walking into a five star rental price point. The halls, elevators and building looked unkempt and smelled like dirt.
Cheap Outdated Interiors
Despite the smell and filth, I was able to assess the two bedroom unit I was shown by the gruff lady in navy uniform pants. In a nutshell it's not worth the money. It was spacious and had a nice view of the bay but I'd take quality living in a smaller space any day. The layout didn't make good use of the space. The kitchen was not modern, it was just big. And the rest of the place was cheap standard apartment interior.
The Obnoxious Red Light
...was apparently attached to the building a few years ago when it was converted to Allegro. It's neon awkwardness adds no value to the building or skyline. If you plan on renting, don't go towards the light. There are people's windows right behind and next to it. I have no doubt these tenants have red light blaring through their home at night. I would hope they warn people during the initial tour. If not, I feel sorry for you. I posted a pic of this obnoxious neon light running the length of the building. They didn't mention it on my tour...
Good luck and happy hunting. This did not feel like a happy place to be. If you're looking for a lifestyle, check out a few condos in Little Italy on craigslist and you'll do much better than this for it's price. -

I lived here for a year (April 2006-2007), and it was a complete nightmare. Sure, it is glitzy and the kitchen was amazingly big with all the upper crust ammenities, but it wasn't enough to make up for the terrible managment.
The trains are loud. At midnight and 3 am. Ridiculously, brain-shatteringly loud.
The management that I worked with have since fled the area, but were a complete disaster. My roommate and I had to threaten litigation to get our safety deposits back. They finally buckled, but what a ridiculous rigamaroll.
The washer/dryer combination is a nightmare: I ended up taking my clothes to a laundromat every two weeks, which is completely stupid when you have a supposed washer/dryer in your unit. It also had a leak in it, which managed to soak everything in the closet, thus ruining at least $300 worth of our belongings. No reparations were made by the management, shocking.
The building was pretty slapped together: the ceiling was cracking already (and they were brand new!), and the pipes in the bathroom and kitchen weren't even connected! Talk about a little shock while doing the dishes for the first time.
My roommate was trapped in the elevator twice, and the management would not call the fire department, but INSISTED on calling the free elevator repair guy who lived out in BFE somewhere. She was trapped for over an hour, both times. Lovely.
The pool is beautiful, and had an amazing view (which will be blocked by the impending building going up). The location is great (sans the train noise). Other than that, this place is ridiculously expensive for what you actually get. -

My girlfriend lived here a couple years ago, it wasn't that great. The apartments are pretty expensive and you are paying for a view (not for long a condo is going up right in front of it).
The upside: The views are cool, the pool is really nice, the apartments all are "condo standards" so they have all the nice stuff you would see in a condo (granite counter tops, washer/dryer, central air)
The downside: The parking is not included in the cost to rent, The trains are LOUD.. by loud I mean EFFING LOUD all night long. On foggy mornings, the airport flips the runway around and the planes are really loud, the people all think they are rich and act as such, the management company sucks.. they are so unprofessional it hurts. The washer and drier is an all in one unit, soooo it uses steam to dry which leaves clothes a wrinkled mess.
Don't go here.. there are a lot of other places to rent downtown.
After writing my cons I just removed another star.. thinking about how crappy this place was made my brain hurt. -

New management has taken over since a lot of these reviews were posted. I love living here. Little Italy is a great neighborhood and being in walking distance of downtown is convenient, especially since that's where I work. The gym is always kept clean (not sure if this is a testament to the management or tenants, either way it's a plus!) and like someone else said, the pool is nice and in a great location compared to some residences. We live in a bay facing unit which makes for good sunrise and even better sunset views. All of the amenities are up to date and of good quality, we've never had an issue with anything. Yes, you're going to hear trains (you should expect that when you move into a place by the tracks, right?) and yes, it is a little expensive (location location location) but after almost a year of living here, I really don't have anything to complain about!

I love living here! My apartment is new and well maintained, the view is beautiful, the staff awesome, the facilities well kept...I can't find a thing to complain about (unless you count the trains...but the location and view far outweigh the annoyance). I moved into the complex one month ago and love everything about this place.

I saw all the poor reviews and not sure I'm living in the same place?
I recently lived in Electra and City Front Terrace and I'm enjoying Allegro the best. Every issue I've had has been taken care of quickly. The people "in the front" have always been easy to work with, so the poor reviews surprise me.
Location is great, a breeze on hot days, a pool that is in the sun most of the time (notice how a lot of places have small pools in shaded locations), and the unit I have is spacious with lots of light. Little Italy is a great neighborhood to live in.
One review commented on the red light, which could be a issue if your apartment is next to it.Another review mentioned the washer/dryer leaving clothes wrinkled, that is a fact, but not all apartments have that unit.
Remember this is a apartment building not a condo, so you're renting from the management not a owner.
So far I like this location, since Yelp is only the "squeaky wheel" type of review I thought I'd give my opinion.
I'm over 60, retired and haven't had any issues with the "party people". -

San Diego, CA
I lived here for a year (Jan 2006-Jan 2007) and moving out was the best day of my life! The management was completely unprofessional. They were rude and when I had a broken pipe in my unit, the manager told me I'd have to wait, with water everywhere until the next day. The building & elevators were dirty, lights in the hallway were never on and the units were not worth the money. The bird is in the entry smelt and was annoying. You can find better for your money.

Ohh my where do I begin???? is it the water in the elevator from the children that play or the very loud trains that keep me up night after night. I must say the apartments are nice but small. $2000.00 a month for 675 square feet???

I lived in Allegro Towers for 16 months. The only thing worth the high rent they charge is the view (if you have one) and the pool. The building is not kept very well and since most people have pets the entire outdoors smells like dog urine. There are urine stains in the stairwells and all around the outside of the building. Many of the people that reside there are young kids that like to party like rock stars leaving the contents of their stomachs in the elevators, parking lot etc. Cigarette butts are another part of the decor that sickened me. Although there are signs posted the management doesn't enforce anything they don't want to. I would not recommend this facility nor would I EVER rent there again. I will post some pics to show what I am talking about as soon as I get them uploaded. Remember....you've been warned! Good day!

Uhh I could not believe the audacity of this prick behind the front desk! I've never lived here but, I've gone to visit several times and watched the place go down since. I was told to go down to the front desk to get parking validated and heavier set older man told me look "why on earth would we do that?...are you serious why would we do that"....go f yourself , I was told to go downstairs all I did was ask you an f*ing question. Everyone else seems nice when I've walked by but for the price I would expect a little more class and expect better manners...

We moved in on a 4 month lease just for the summer months in the summer of 2009. The staff and management have been great. Any time we had any issues they came to our apartment promptly. The views are absolutely spectacular (we are on the 22nd floor) and the apartment is so close to the trolly so you can get anywhere you want quickly. The parking is a little tight and the entry gates don't work that great, but we never had much of a problem finding a spot to park (but it is crowded durinig the day when downtown working people can pay to park). The pool area is really nice and people seem to utilize the grills and spa, especially on the weekends. True, the trains are loud, but it's nothing you don't get used to. It's part of downtown living. Also, regarding the apartment itself - it has a great layout (we are in a 2 bedroom corner) and the immenities/kitchen/appliances are quite nice). We loved the bird in the lobby which hangs out with the staff during the day and in it's cage at night (and says "hello" to you when you walk by) - it makes the place memorable and unique. We'd definitely recommend this place and will be coming back again next year.
