I will be straight up about Allegro. It's expensive. I don't stop in and buy something unless it is an emergency. I always recommend shopping around before spending top dollar on a musical instrument or something as cheap as a set of strings. Allegro doesn't carry the brands that interest me so usually I end up in there buying strings that cost quite a bit more than if I had planned ahead and ordered them. They carry the items you need as a musician but don't have great deals.
They provide lessons which is probably the best part of this establishment. It's nice to know that a place is interested in teaching our youth how to play their instruments properly. I guess parents can only handle "Smoke on the Water" so many times before sending them to Allegro.
The people who teach the lessons are really nice and don't hold egos but the people who are selling the gear always strike me as rude and "know it allish"... almost like they get offended if you ask about another brand they don't carry or the fact that I look like I'm not a rich South Parker resident. I'm interested in the truth about gear (What product is better), not some kid telling me that they only carry the best equipment; I know otherwise.
I support local music shops but I don't support local egos so I have rated them 2-stars based on the fact that they were not informed on the competitor equipment, they just said "this product is the best". I want to talk to a gear head when I walk into a music shop; passionate about equipment and wants to point me in the right direction. I want a music shop that can qualify their statements... how do you know this is the best?
