Another update on one of my favorite go-tos... man oh man do I love Allegro!! I've always been partial to the pizza (particularly the chicken ranch - minus the chicken and bacon for this vegetarian girl or just plain old cheese), but recently I've become addicted to their caesar salads. I mean REALLY Jeano, you guys must be adding a sprinkle of heroin onto these salads in order to make me go this crazy for a salad!! I crave it constantly!!!!

Okay, other than my newfound love for their amazing caesar salads, don't forget to try their Take 'N Bake option if you're on a budget. I think you can save like 40 percent by just cooking it at home!! What a deal!! (Although, I do prefer going in to get a Great White Shark beer on draught to go with my caesar...and pizza...or pasta...and that onion focaccia bread they give you when you sit down... okay, I'm done).

My friend and I were in Carmel on a little road trip. We pulled into the Barnyard after checking on Google maps for an Italian restaurant/pizzeria. We walked in and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. Before we decided what to order I walked over to the bar to see what beers they have on tap. Allison, our waitress, was very helpful and even offered to let me sample a couple of the beers. I went with the Firestone DBA (one of my favorites) and my friend Barney went with the Peroni. Not only was the beer delicious but it was ice cold! The way beer should be.

After looking over the men -, everything looked good - we decided on sharing a Brian's Favorite BArbeque Chicken Pizza. It was very good. We only wish we got a larger pizza! Allison was very attentive and we even scored a free beer refill for liking their page on FB! More ice cold delicious beer!

We topped off our lunch with a canoli and a slice of tiramisu. Both were very good. Barney wanted to bring home (Miami) a bottle of wine for his wife but had no clue what to get. Allison recommended Sexual Chocolate and even gave us a free tasting. We got one bottle to go.

Great food. Great service. OK prices. Cold beer. I'll be back!

My partner and i have been eager to visit Carmel for some time and trying Allegro's pizza was one of our goals. WOW!! What a great pizza restaurant! Our daytime server, Allison, was courteous, friendly and helpful... and the Pizzas were fantastic. This is the BEST commercial pizza either of us have ever tasted!

I had the Barbecue chicken pizza with Goat Chevre added (all additions are OK!) and Debbie constructed a designer pizza with 3 exotic cheeses, olives, onions, sundried tomatoes, roasted garlics and peppers. Very different pizzas, both the best we can remember. We will be back for more. The predesigned pizza choices are extraordinary, the toppings are much more varied and gourmet quality than most places and our Chevre salad (which we split) was outstanding.

We love Allegro Pizza. The leftovers fed us for dinner and we saved the money for that second meal, so it was quite cheap, considering. You owe it to yourself to try this out. The local who showed us where to locate the place, said "Oh you're gonna love it!" and she was right!

Loved the pizza!  We made our own...started with the Old Sicilian and then added bacon, linguisa and basil.  Loved it!

We also got the Bolognese, which was pretty disappointing with a bland, so so flavor.  The side salad that came with it was fresh and tasty.  I ate all of the salad and just snacked on the pasta.

The bartender was very knowledgable on the beers.  There were a couple Italian beers on tap so we asked what the differences were for each of them.  She provided an explanation of each, let us know her favorite and provided us with samples.

Next time I would stick with the pizza and want to try out the wine bar as well.

Pizza was good, but nothing to write home about. It would have been a better experience sans these major irritations:

    1)  The menu listed the pizza as having a thicker crust. It was crazy thin.

    2)  We ordered the pizza take-and-bake style, only to find out on the drive home that they left off the sundried tomatoes.  I would have checked the pizza when we picked it up, but the cashier checked it--I figured she would have said something if it didn't look right, plus, I didn't want to be too OCD.  Considering that it was a pesto pizza with sundried tomatoes, they kind of missed the boat. It's not rocket science.

I've taken my family and friends here 3 times in the past couple of months. Terrific Caesar salad with plenty of anchovies. The pizza dough is thin and crispy, just the way I like it. The wines are a highlight, $28 for a bottle of Bernardus Marinus!  You can't buy it that cheap at Safeway and I've seen it as high as $90 at other restaurants. Service has been good despite being busy. Maybe they've read some of the other reviews and cleaned up their act.

Vegan pizza, gluten-free pizza: we were in heaven. We got 1 vegetarian and 1 chicken and basil pesto to eat there, and ordered 1 each again to take back to the hotel for that night's dinner and next morning's breakfast. The vegetarian pizza was loaded with real mushrooms (nice hefty chunks), zucchini slices, olives, tomato wedges...THIS is what I call a vegetarian pizza! The chicken and basil pesto pizza with gluten-free crust was delicious -- great flavors accentuated with pickled artichokes. Service: fast, friendly, accommodated our dietary requests with ease. Next time we're in the area we will definitely go back.

First of all, whoever just started baking apple pies there kicks Julia Child's ass!  Order the pie and you will not be disappointed. I promise. If you are, give it to me and I'll eat it. Thanks.

Second, I would recommend avoiding anything with "smoked mozzarella."  My favorite pizza there is the Chicken & Basil Pesto, ***but substitute the "smoked mozzarella" with goat cheese (or whatever cheese you want).  Only complaint is that it's a little overpriced.

Good new is they are one of the only restaurants in Carmel that deliver - yaaaay! I seriously would've starved to death on numerous occasions if it wasn't for them.  Albeit there was an incident with one of their short-lived pizza delivery boys who said he wanted to be my manager and turn me into a rock star (as I was standing at the door in my pj's)... I think he had a little too much pepperoni or something.  Anywho... Allegro's has great pizza and AWESOME apple pie!

    WAY OVER PRICED !

Quite an extensive list of pizza choices, but I was really disappointed with the pizza. We had one with garlic, sun dried tomatoes and almonds.  For the price, the amount of topping were really minimal. The few almonds on it were stale.

    $ 28 dollars for a 16 pie.

Really just a great all around family owned pizza place. All the pizza is awesome but the real gold is in the gourmet pizza in which Allegro specializes. If you have not been to Allegro before, definitely ask the waiter/ waitress what they recommend. I like the Gorgonzola.

If you are looking for Dominos pricing then this might not be your place. However, if  you are looking for real quality pizza at a reasonable price I really can't think of a better pizza place on the Monterey Peninsula. Plus they have an awesome wine selection.

Returning to Allegro a former old town favorite, I  would of liked to give it 5 stars, but customer service sucked.  The tude of shift change lacked customer service which I regrettfully rate 1 star.
Ok the bad:  After ordering to go, we changed to have there.  While we waited patiently, there was no service from the 2 people up front.  All they cared about was the upcoming shift and the other gal ending her shift.  The current waitress who took our order disappeared for 15 minutes.  What the heck?
When she did return to we were able to order drinks.  She was very friendly but no doubt a toddler when I first fell in love with this place.  When she did show up, service was 4 stars...absence a 2.
Finally the good part, the Pizza!  It was just as I remembered a few years back and even back into the 90's!  This time we had the alternative rice flour dough!  It was just as great as the wheat one!
For those that want a thicker crust, you may want to request this.  What makes there pizza unique, it is more traditional similar to "REAL" Italian pizzas you find in Italy.
Still, I have yet to find a pizza similar and as thin as to one down an alley in Bellagio Italy with my brother Umberto from Lake Como.
I really want to give this place 5 stars but due to lack of customer service...I regrettfully give it 3.

We went for a long hike and wanted to get some lunch.  It was our anniversary so we wanted to get something a little that was nicer than fast food and we were starving.  I see it all the time and just had never gone in.  The only redeeming quality was the server was very nice and prompt and I'm hoping maybe we just hit it on a bad day.  But hearing the F-bomb every couple minutes and some very awkward other moments pretty much killed the mood we really just wanted to crawl away.   I feel bad when ever I leave a bad review but it was pretty awful.  The dressing on the salad was on the verge of going bad so the salad we didn't eat.  My pasta was terrible I didn't even eat more than a couple bites.  My husbands was edible so we split it but it was nothing specials.  Maybe there pizzas are better but it was a huge let down.

Fabulous home town pizzeria. I was in town for the weekend and craving some bad diet decisions, a constant symptom of my typical vacation weekend, and found this place on my phone. When I mentioned to my hotel bartender, valet, and concierge separately I was eyeballing Allegro's for dinner, it was continually confirmed "the best pizza in town." If locals give the thumbs up, I am fully committed.

So first of all, this is a local hang out. The people of Carmel presumably start here before going downtown on weekends, or heading upstairs to Flannigans, so the atmosphere is very family-like and inviting. And speaking of family... the owner's son is A-DORABLE!

Food: Tremendous. They had some very contemporary choices on the menu, as well as an impressive wine list. Some great pinots. So if you are into thin crust pizza and an INCREDIBLE CEASAR SALAD.... check this place out.

I went here today despite the lukewarm to bad reviews because I had to have pizza and was just told I'm gluten intolerant about a month ago. I went in expecting bad service and hoping the pizza was good at least. I noticed the gruffness of the service when he abruptly interrupted my conversation with a friend I hadn't seen in awhile. But he took our order and drinks, the drinks were brought promptly and the pizza took awhile. After the interruption the service was pretty good/usual. But I really haven't had pizza that good since I went to New York 2 years ago AND it was gluten free. I would definitely eat here and just expect it to be a bit because the food is worth the wait and you get to spend more time with your date. (no I didn't mean to rhyme that on purpose but it works =p)

Do not even think about ordering pizza for take out from here. They totally lie to you on time it will take and usually do not even prepare the pizza to bake until you get there. Then, while you are waiting an extra 45 minutes they try and sell you a glass of wine rather than offering a complimentary one. I will not waste my time at Allegro ever again. They certainly don't deserve the "best pizza" rating from the Weekly...they must buy a lot of ads to earn that award.  I gave them chances, they failed every time. Avoid!

The conflicting reviews on the service have it right. In terms of service, my first thirty seconds were mildly annoying and the rest of my stay was fantastic. I'm left not knowing what to think.

I ordered a 10" thin crust with pepperoni and red onions, and paired with a pint of Peroni. It was a delicious meal, but I can't help but shake the feeling that I overpaid for the whole thing.

The atmosphere is nice. Given that they deliver I assumed it would be a casual sort of pizza-by-the-slice type place, so I was pleasantly surprised to see tablecloths and wine bottles.

I enjoyed myself. I really did, but I don't think I'll be coming back all that regularly.

I've updated my one star review of Allegro because the owner took the time to write me a personalized note responding to what I said last month.  He explained that they did have a timing issue but assured me it had been fixed. I probably will give them another chance the next time I'm in Carmel and I'll also make sure my expectations for a pick up time and Allegro's anticipated "it's ready" time are in sync.  The classy move by the owner merits a couple of stars.

So I went here...oh.... a week ago and LOVED it! The Food was fantastic but the service was sub par. I don't mind to much when it is sub par. It was friendly, but not attentive.

I went back last night.....HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! We were seated by a girl who really didn't care less of we had walked in. That's fine, I'm sure we aren't the highlight of your day. Then about ....15 MINUTES later our Waiter graces our presence with a "You ready?" Seriously that was all he said. He was a pretty face boy. Guessing he thinks this will get him the tips. I honestly don't even want to get into the entirety of how bad this service was. He just didn't know how to be GOOD at what he was doing.

Sum it up Allegros is great food..TO GO! Do not eat in, you will be disappointed with the service for sure.

If you are 19 and trying to find a first job as a server, I suggest applying here, since I believe this is the criteria for employment.

    Update:

The owner took the time to write back and offer a gift certificate for the negative experience we had. Their offer is honest given we were a one time customer and had a negative experience with gratuity that was added automatically to our bill.

I am updating this with 4 *'s - I have not been here often to know how good their food is consistently to give it 5 *'s. The owner wrote back based on a negative yelp review - this makes me believe they are committed to their customers. Makes you think they will go out to satisfy their customers if you don't like the food or experience.

Had a nice low key dinner here on our last night in Carmel. Friendly service, tons of pizza selections and nice salad choices. We split a salad (the chevre) and a combination pizza. Nice crust, generous toppings and a definite "winner"! Though it is advertised as being authentically Italian, it is not-it is a bit kitsch (chianti bottles, red "Italian" candle holders, etc).

I laughed out loud when I saw "the Mudder" was the last to review this place and I didn't even know it-though I should have-she and my Dad have been EVERYWHERE!!!

Very bad experience - waited 45 minutes for a pizza!  Commented that any restaurant with decent pizza ovens (we own several places) can make a great pizza in 8-9 minutes.  Then got the excuse that "we had a group of 12 and a lot of take-out."  So much for customer service.  (after writing this, read their motto - "not looking for service awards"  WOW - that says it all.  Decided I was being too charitable and dropped my rating to one star.

In fairness, the pizza when it finally came was quite good, but we were so annoyed by the delay that it left a sour taste.  Won't bother to go back especially given their service motto!!!

I wanted to indulge in one of my favorite foods after the race, and thankfully, Allegro's was just a hop, skip, and a jump away from where we stayed at the Carmel Mission Inn.

We ordered a large Roma (described on the menu as being like a margherita, but better).  While it may have been better than the average chain pizza, I didn't think it was all that special.  All I remember is cheese, and not much of anything else.

We rolled in just after noon and they had yet to open.  The staff having just come in, and were frantically getting the place prepped for business.  We decided to phone our order and come back 20 min. later, only to wait a bit longer.  Although we opted for take out, the service looked frazzled and hurried for what wasn't even a full house.  I noticed some folks deciding not to venture in when they saw how long it was taking.

If anything, at least the workers were friendly, both over the phone and in person.

I'd go back and give it another shot--try a different pie, as there were many that sounded delicious.  (Their beer and wine menu was also more extensive than your usual pizzeria.)  But already in a drained state and craving fuel, I still wasn't as wowed as others were.

We were staying at the Carmel Mission Inn Next door and found this place while looking for some grub after our 6 hour drive from socal.

I thought this place was really pretty good...although when your starving everything is always a little better.

Fresh bread, yummy.  We got the roasted artichoke, Caesar salad and fettucini Alfred to share.

The artichokes were great, a fresh style to a classic. The Caesar salad was voted the best Caesar in Monterey multiple times according to the menu. It was good but I've had better. The fettucini was really good, the sauce was different and not quite so heavy which I really enjoyed!

Had a little gelato for desert on a cone. Chocolate was a perfect ending to the meal.

I did like how family friendly it was..they had dough balls for the kids to play with, crayons to write on the table paper. And kids could make their own pizza with chef hats they can color. Super cute for families!

We weren't looking for a big meal, it was a bit late so we pulled up Yelp and found this place was right behind our hotel (literally 10 steps away) and they were offering a discount for Yelpers. It was 8:45pm and noticed they closed at 9 (a bit early for a Friday night but I get the feeling everything closes early around here) walked in the place was packed. We decided to split the Italian Sausage and Cheese pizza small 10" (4 decent sized slices). Pizza was great ingredients were fresh and tasty, perfect size to split if you don't want to stuff your face, they give you bread with oil and vinegar and the service was fast and friendly.
I'd def eat here again, good stuff!!
Oh by he way they closed at 9 but there were still a lot of people there finishing up their meals. They didn't rush us at all.

Just moved here from New Jersey, decided to go to Allegro based on the reviews. This was the worst pizza I have ever had...anywhere. Bad dough, bad sauce, and soggy when it arrived at the table. The staff was disinterested at best, and the owner was full of himself considering the low quality of the food he is serving.
When I mentioned that the pizza was soggy the waiter explained to us that it is supposed to be served that way?? Also very expensive, $50 for a pizza and two glasses of wine?? Don't bother with this place it's not worth the cost.

After an early morning wake-up call to get down to the Carmel Valley, my friends and I were content to just lie around like lumps in our hotel room. Not very Carmel, but we were too tired to bother.

We were ravenously hungry and called Allegro at what seemed to be their opening time (11 a.m.) on a Saturday morning. We had no menu so just ordered the "meat pizza" with extra cheese. The meat pizza seemed to include sausage, pepperoni and some version of ham. The extra cheese (which my friends were surprised that I'd never had on a pizza) is probably what made the pizza so tasty. The toppings were plentiful, though the pizza dough was a bit doughy. The large pizza with three waters came to ~$35 which seemed pretty pricey to us, though I order full pizzas so infrequently.

We got the pizza delivered to our room at the Carmel Mission Inn, and the delivery took ~1 hour. Everybody was really helpful and pleasant both on the phone and when delivering our order.

But if you want crushed red pepper, be sure to ask for it in advance - we forgot!

My boyfriend and I ordered some food from Allegro to our hotel on New Year's Eve. We ordered a medium pizza (half cheese, half pepperoni) and an order of bruschetta (only because there was a $20 minimum for delivery).

The delivery guy, though a bit frazzled, arrived after only 40 minutes and was very friendly.

The pizza crust was AWESOME -- hand tossed thin crust, YUM! The cheese on the pizza was also very, very good. The bruschetta was a big pile of bread, tomatoes, basil, and olives. So delicious.

I definitely plan on visiting Allegro in the near future for more of their awesome pizza without the hassle of the minimum delivery fee.

We ate here sunday evening.  Has good thin crust pizza, with many different selections.   We had a pizza with artichoke and eggplant, it was delicious.

If you are in the area and want a good pie, this place is worth the stop.

Our server was awesome, Loved him :) Sorry I don't remember you name...he was so laid back and kept having nice short conversations with us.

We ate here right when we got into Carmel, it's right behind the Carmel Mission Inn, so we walked right over after checking in. We originally went in to get a slice, but saw the menu and decide to order one of the Gourmet Deals.

We ordered a large which was pretty big, it was Half Chicken Ranch and half Roma, both were really good.

They also had a nice selection of wine, the wine was only by glass and was pretty pricey, that was the only thing I didn't like.

I would definitely go back here if I was ever in Carmel.

We ate here on our first in Carmel last Friday and were really impressed. We had the Chicken ranch pizza and it was really good. We also ordered a slice of plain cheese pizza for our almost 3 year old and she loved it. The side salad was also quite enjoyable. The 10" pizza fed both my husband and I. Our daughter ate 3/4s of the large piece of pizza. Our server, Jessica was very nice.

We'll definitely be back here again, and it was great that it was right across the parking lot from our hotel, the Carmel Mission Inn.

Great food. The foccacia they brought out was awesome. Also the Caesar and caprese salads were very large and hit the spot. The pizza was very good. Would have rated higher, but received pretty bad service. The waitress was very nice and apologetic though.

    just not worth it.
staff too young to give a darn about
the customer's needs. seems like a place just
for the teeny-bop staff to socialize.
i can't tell you how many times my pizza order has been made wrong
and then I have to wait another 40 minutes
    really?
    is making pizza that difficult.

I'd drive back to this place again just for the pizza...I love thin crust, and I love lots of cheese, so we're really a match made in heaven.  My husband and I came in early, so we had the place to ourselves.  Super nice and fun server who recommended we do a half and half pizza.  Philly Cheese Steak and something I can't remember but it had bacon and ranch so again, so so happy!

The pizza came out really fast and we grubbed on the whole thing!  I never eat more than 2 slices.  I ate 5!  It was worth my extra time at the gym:)  The free bread was beyond yummy.

Look, I've eaten a lot of pizzas in my day, I work with the youth group at my church, so i get a lot of Little  Skeezers (GAG) so maybe my taste buds are off, but I fell in love with the pizza and the service.
