Probably the most keeping it real airline experience I've had in the U.S. since PeopleExpress Airlines back in the '80s.  Allegiant is a low cost carrier that flies between regional airports (not the SFOs and LAXs of the world).  It has one flight (not daily but *twice* a week) from RTIA that goes to/from Bellingham.  This was perfect for us, as we were headed up there over Thanksgiving to see family.

When we got to the check in gate, there was no computer to print out our boarding passes.  Instead there were preprinted boarding passes, and our seat assignments were stickers that were pulled off a fuselage shaped sticker sheet and then affixed to our boarding passes.  Our names were then crossed of a list, and voila!  We were checked in.  In some ways this is a lot easier than all the computer malarkey we deal with normally.

The flight was short and quick, and despite what appears to be a partially secondhand fleet (our plane up to Bellingham was obviously an old AeroMexico plane that they'd neglected to rebrand completely) it was one of the most painless flights I've had.  It makes visiting family a lot more palatable knowing that within 2 hours I can be at my destination.

How long Allegiant will be at RTIA remains to be seen, given that the other flights they had (to Ontario and other So. Cal destinations) were cut over the summer when fuel prices skyrocketed.
