History

Established in 1983

The Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce was to help local businesses to grow the economy through cooperative effort. As manufacturing has declined in the area, the Chamber has also been more active in promoting the scenic and recreational opportunities for visitors and the unmatched quality of life in this Blue Ridge Mountain Community. We like to say that Alleghany County and Sparta North Carolina are easy to find and hard to leave. Pay us a visit and see if we are not right.

Meet the Manager: Bob B.

Former editor of the Alleghany News, and executive director of the Alleghany Partnership for Children, Bob Bamberg came to the Chamber post in 2004. He has a BA in psychology and an MA in education from the University of Florida and remains an avid Gator fan. As tourism and visitors to the county have increased, the Chamber has more actively assumed welcome center role. Renovations in 2006 provided a more attractive and useful visitor center environment. And in 2011, new handicap-accessible public restrooms and a public walkway added to the building's attractiveness and service to the public. The office is open six days a week Memorial day through the first week in December and open Monday through Friday otherwise.
