I love that they use Bumble & Bumble products. They make my hair so smooth -- Allan, can you tell me which exact product you used to spray into my hair after it was shampooed?

    Disappointment.
Came here because my aunt referred us to this place also the makeup artist that used to do my makeup works here. My cousin got her hair and makeup done here and my mom got her hair cut here so it didn't look TOO bad. I decided to get my hair done here for my 22nd birthday. Bad idea.

    - comparing my past hair stylist they've always done something unique and something amazing and BAM with my hair. The lady that did my hair (not naming any names) pretty much followed (kinda) the picture I gave her but barely did much? It just seemed so BLAH
    - although she said to tell her if she was hurting me, she was pretty rough. You know why I was in sort of a lightweight pain? She used a regular rubberband to tie my hair to the side....who does that. Seriously I've never been to a salon that uses a regular rubberband not even a hair tye to do my hair! All updos should ONLY use bobby pins. This is how you know you're going to an Asian salon. You know you're at a great salon when bobby pins can hold your hair even if it gives off the imagery of a pony tail needing a hair tye.
    - even though she said her curls last till the next day my curls literally died when I got home and I live 15 minutes away.
-my own makeup artist I went to after fixed my hair and made it look better
    - I had a haircut appointment but was too turned off to actually come in to cut it
    - the place looks nice but for its service it should not be charging high prices
    - DEFS going back to 5 Color Cowboy

    I'm definitely not going back.

I normally go to Precision Cutz, but I really wanted a haircut the day after christmas and they were the only place open.

I get there, and they aren't particularly friendly or welcoming, but they aren't UNfriendly either, so whatever. I show the girl what I want and she seems hesitant. She asks me if I'd like to wait for the other hair stylist because he was better with bobs. Having a hair stylist that isn't comfortable doing an extremely common hair cut should have been my first clue to leave, but instead I agreed.

She washed my hair while I waited for him. It made me feel awkward because she didn't seem to want to talk to me.

I showed the hair stylist what I wanted and he looked at it for about 4 seconds. He saw that it was a bob, and just went with that. My haircut looks nothing like the picture, and he seemed surprised when I told him I wanted my bang a certain way (the way in the picture) confirming my suspicions that he didn't remember the hair cut I wanted at all.

But it was too late. He gave me a haircut that looks nothing like what I wanted. On top of that, my bangs look flat and gross, and the layering on the left side is considerably shorter than the layering on the right. I had the haircut fixed and she seemed really puzzled by what he had done to my hair. She was very hesitant to bad mouth another hair stylist but she did say that what he had done was completely "incorrect" to how you cut hair to begin with.

The worst part was that I was told 45 on the phone and then, at the end he tells me I owe him 65. I see here on yelp no price for a haircut over 55, so I feel cheated.

I had Tina cut my hair and I was one happy customer!

I have been growing out my hair for the first time since I can remember and was really nervous about coming it to get it trimmed. The growing hair process left my hair shapeless and bleh so I figured I needed to add some kind of layers or style to it to make it presentable.

    That's where Tina came in.

I told her my dilemma along with the fact that I was nervous about cutting my hair in the first place because I'm growing it out on a time crunch (count down 1 year till the wedding!). She was very attentive and listened to everything before she gave some suggestions.

She was quick and accurate and kept me in the know the entire time, checking in with me to make sure I felt reassure about my hair length. The thing I appreciated the most was her accuracy in cutting my hair - she trimmed it, put layers in it without chopping off too many inches like most places do.

Last little tid bit - I wasn't going to trim my bangs but when I asked tina about it she said "yes you should" and so I put my bangs in her hands (literally). I am NOT disappointed.

    I will be coming back!

I finally found The One! Since moving back from Vegas a couple of years ago, I've been on the search for the perfect stylist. I've tried so many salons thanks to Groupon but I never found a stylist I really loved. Until now.

Bao is a friend of a friend. I decided to give him a try since he's always looking fabulous. Plus, his salon is within my zip code.

I have thin hair and a face shape that borders between oval and round. I've cut my hair as short as a pixie-style which was a big no no. I've also had a bob which I was not a big fan of either. I like my hair long the best, especially since my bf loves my long hair. The problem is maintaining volume in my long locks. My favorite stylist in Vegas always did such an amazing job layering my hair so that it's big and bouncy, just the way I like it. The other stylists whom I went to just did not layer my hair in a way that does not leave it laying limp.

With that said, I consulted with Bao on what style was best for my hair type and face. He immediately nixed going short and explained how long layers will boost the volume to my hair. So he proceeded to cut off 2 inches. The result was AMAZING! I was so pleased when I looked at myself and saw BIG hair, which is what I was looking for. I walked out of the salon feeling beautiful. Since then, I've been able to style my hair to look just the way it did when I walked out of Allan's Salon. I've had great haircuts in the past but when I tried styling it at home, it just did not come out looking the way it did when I left the salon. Bao instructed me how to get the same look at home by roundbrushing.

Bao also does fabulous makeup. This man is a genius at making a woman look beautiful. I swear he can make anyone over and leave her looking gorgeous. He is definitely going to be doing my hair and makeup when I get married.

I live in the East Bay and I needed a hair cut.  I visited Yelp to figure out where I should go because my last cut was utterly terribly.

After reading the reviews for this salon, I decided to make the hour drive to the salon and I'm so glad I did.

Bao welcomed me in and asked lots of questions about what I was hoping for today and what my concerns were and what my past experiences have been like.  I liked that he knew (or seemed to know) how to handle fine hair (which is what I have).  He gave me an excellent cut and I left the salon happy.

My sister and I both wanted our hair cut short (about shoulder length) so we wanted someone who would do a good job. I called a few places to see if they had any same day openings, and Allan's was the only place that was willing to squeeze us in. We even got lost and arrived 30 mins late, but everyone there was still friendly about it.

I loved Susan! She cut both my and my sister's hair. She started with my sister first, and was quick and efficient. She asks questions and actually listened to what she wanted. My sister was happy with it. Then, it was my turn. She actually suggested a heavy bang with layers for me. But I wanted an a-line bob. She gave me the bob and even gave me options for it, with more or less layers. She also taught me how to blow dry and maintain it. I was happy she listened and didn't give me a cut I didn't want. She is so friendly and talkative it made everything really easy. (I hate when you are forced to small talk with a stylist who doesn't really care.) Our two cuts took about 2.5 hrs total. She also stayed way over closing to cut our hair and wasn't annoyed about it at all!

Overall, her prices are decent for a master stylist ($55) but I usually cut my own hair. So for me, this is a once a year type of splurge. But I'd definitely love to return again!

I have been to this salon twice. The first time was for a color and cut. I was happy with the results I think Rose was the name of the women that worked on me.

The second time I went for a Brazilian Blowout and a cut. Allan worked on me, he was friendly and so was his assistant. The Brazilian Blow out was good and I was happy with the results but I Hated the cut once I got home and washed it myself. I had my eyes closed when he started to cut because they were still burning from the fumes of the chemicals. I hadn't realized that he was cutting right away because there were was a lot going on in the shop that day. It wasn't until I heard the scissors near my ear that I realized he'd started cutting. He never once asked me what I wanted from the cut or talked to me about what he was going to do. He put a bunch of short layers in the front my hair and left the back long and straight across. It looked kind of like I had a mullet once that I'd just let grow out.

There are many stylists here and one bad cut does not make for a bad salon but I won't go back. It just seems that if the owner doesn't ask before he cuts 6 inches off then why would anyone else.

I got my hair cut by Bao.  I really liked Bao and we had a lot to talk about while he was cutting my hair.

My hair looked great coming out of the salon.  However, I tried to recreate what Bao had done when I got home and it just didn't work out.  My bangs were too short and I waited about 1.5 months for them to grow out to a normal length (I brought this up when he was cutting them).

This is the WORST salon experience that I have had. I am a bleached blonde, after leaving this place my hair had an orange rim around my whole head, while my hair line was white. The man who did my hair had an expired liscence right in my eye sight that I didn't notice until this man already slaped die on my hair. I wish I walked out of this place, but I was in dier need of having my hair done.

This place may be perfect for the man with over growing hair, but this place is not for girls who want to be blonde. I cried for hours after leaving this place. Bleach isn't something you just through on someone's head in hopes that it all comes out right.

I called in to get my hair styled.  Based on these yelp reviews, I asked for Allan.  When I got there, another guy instead came up to me.  Where was Allan?  Apparently when you call in for an appointment, you don't get who you ask for, it's whomever is available.

I wanted big dramatic dolly parton-esque hair.  Sooo all he did was tease my hair.  The bill was $55.  I asked how much 25% was for the tip.  They ended up charging me $25.  Why I didn't contest this, is my fault.  But it's another example of how this is a salon that doesn't listen. not coming back.

Normally I dislike getting haircuts because I have been disappointed the last 5 times by all of the different hair stylists I've tried. I have to go to a professional salon to get my hair cut. No way in hell will I ever step foot in a Super Cuts or whatever wannabe "hair salon" is out there.

I haven't cut my hair since September so I was well overdue. I decided to come to Allan's Salon. I have long, thick Asian hair. My hair stylist was Bao and he turned my ugly hair to pretty hair.  He gave me a lot of layers, thinned out my hair, and gave volume to my hair. I love my hair cut. It makes me look more mature and I don't have to dread my thick hair every day.

Bao is amazing. He's confident, sociable, friendly, and great with hair and make up. Not to mention he's affordable. I was so surprised that it only cost $50. I look forward to seeing Bao again for my future hair cuts and getting my make up done.

    Two words: BAO NGO!!

He is just AMAZING. I followed him here from hollywood pro. He is a talented make up artist hair stylist, and all around beauty GURU. He is my go to person for getting my make up done for pageants and other events, and he also cuts my hair!! I always walk out of the salon looking like a million bucks when he cuts my hair. He's cut my hair when it was long, and he recently cut it short, so hes just so amazing and will listen to what you want.

You will be glad you went to Bao!! He always makes me feel so awesome and good about myself!! Love him!! Bao is just too good to be true!!!

I was pretty positive and hopeful from the great reviews I read on Yelp.  I told her I wanted lots of layers and wanted it right below the shoulder.  The lady convinced me that the long bob was in, so I decided to take a chance- thinking that it's still reach below the shoulder.  As she chopped away, I learned that she only had 2 years of experience and she didn't go to any school to get formal training.  The only training she had was from Allan who would teach her here and there.  Although she did defend herself saying that he takes her to hair shows or whatever on occasion.  I started getting a little worried but it was too late to back out.  I stayed hopeful.  She kept snipping.  I started getting very quiet trying to control my emotions thinking she's not done yet and it'll get better.  She finished and gave me the mirror.  My hair was an awkward length between my chin and shoulders.  It was cut straight across with maybe an inch of layers at the very bottom.  There was no shape to it!  It wasn't even a bob!!  I looked like a mid-west soccer mom!  She F'd up my hair!  And paid for $55!  I left the studio calm, thinking I just have to style it better.  Nope!  I thought maybe it just has to grow out a few weeks.  I gave it a month to grow out and I started hating it more.  My friend was getting married soon and I did not want this horrible cut in her pictures we'd look back on several years from now so I got it re-cut at Orange Crush a month later to salvage what was left.  He kept the length and made due with what he could.  I was really happy and 3 months in, and it still looks great.  Thanks Orange Crush for saving me from Allan's Salon!

Allan is wonderful! I can always trust him to do my hair justice. Making the decision to cut my hair short was a bit intimidating. I wanted to have it cut right in fear of a disaster experience with short hair. I found Allan's salon and he did an amazing job! I had lots of comments about how my cut worked really well!
I did a lot of firsts at Allan's: short hair (bob, pixies, A-line), highlights, and full coloring to name a few.
I've been going there for 3 years now and always have had pleasant experiences. Recently left the salon with a new fresh pixie cut and I'm loving it! Will definitely continue going back for my future appointments.
    Thank you Allan!!

I really love going to Allan's! He just gets it and on the rare occasion that he doesn't, he's always glad to listen and cater to your needs or vision.

I'm currently trying to grow out my hair and Allan has been great at the trims and making sure I grow it out nicely.

With color treatment, I don't get color so I just show him pictures. You gotta remember that when you look at a picture and like/want that hair; sometimes it just won't work on you or it will take more than one treatment to get it to that stage... I think a lot of people forget that and expect a full 100% turn around when they feel like doing something drastic.

Allan will work with your hair type and make sure that he doesn't damage it.

Best of all, he knows that a girl always changes her mind! I've gone in on a Sunday to do my hair, changed my mind mid week, and came back the end of the week and he is never upset and always glad to change it for me!

My search is over.  In my never ending quest to find the best faux hawk stylist in the bay area, I present to you Tina.  After sitting me down in the chair she immediately went to work.

Tina does not use clippers to fade the sides or top.  She only uses scissors where she opens and closes them like a well oiled machine.  It is a rarity these days where you will find someone that cuts like this.

After Tina shampoos and conditions my hair (yes I even get conditioner) she styles it whatever way you like so you look fresh and fly and you can continue on your day.  I definitely recommend Tina for your next hair cut.

This is the best hair salon I've experienced yet.

Rose was very patient with me, and a) cut my hair in a ponytail so that I could donate it b) layered it in a very simple and easy to maintain style, exactly what I wanted and c) was not overly chatty. Her easy going style and skilled cuts are exactly what I wanted.

On top of that, $10 off for being a first timer. Within hours I had already gotten a lot of compliments on my new hair.

    Thanks Rose!

I don't know what Im going to do next year when I move back to Canada. It took me about a good year of searching around the Bay area to find an exceptional  hair artist and Allan was the man. I am also really picky about color and being Asian, my highlights are prone to getting brassy but nooo, Allan solved all my problems.

Thanks for the wonderful cut and highlights last month. I come here about every few months to get my shag taken care of. He's the only guy I trust with my hair in this area. I used to drive about 2 hours to get my hair done and I stopped after finding Allan 2.5 years ago.

He's constantly progressing as a stylist/artist and continues to learn more techniques and it impresses me because it shows how passionate he is about what he does. This is why I love coming to this guy. He's always educating me about everything new that he learns, which surprises me because for someone that's been doing it for so long-you'd assume they knew everything already. This is why I love Allan, he never stops pushing himself even though he's unbelievably skilled as it is and that's what makes him the best hair stylist in the Bay Area.

Look at all of his awards, my words don't do any justice, he deserves all of the recognition he's gotten and I'm lucky to have such a darn amazing stylist! A little pricier with Allan but honestly, YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET!!!!! Every penny is worth it.

The staff here are always very friendly and sweet too. Not like some snobby salons I've been to in the past. Its a great environment and they use my favorite, Bumble & Bumble!

Leyli is amazing! She gave me a fantastic haircut that's received so many compliments--even from my friend who was against me cutting my hair short!  She cut my hair a week or two ago but I wanted to wait to make sure I really knew how I felt about the cur before writing a review (it's always different once you get home). And I like it just as much--if not more--than at the salon!

My hair is super thick and frizzy/kinky/curly such that most stylists don't know how to cut it without getting frustrated. But Leyli did an awesome job. Truly passionate about hair, she explained to me the different techniques she was using on my hair. After she styled it, my hair really was "dancing" as she said she had aimed for it to.

On top of it all, Leyli is so sweet.  Her constant smiles made the entire experience with her at Allan's Salon nothing short of wonderful. My hair and I were both "dancing" out of Allan's Salon when I left.

    EDIT:
Even about a month after coming here, random people have stopped me just to ask where I got my hair cut.  WOW!  I referred them all to Leyli, of course, and now I'm telling you.  Go visit Leyli!!! (And Allan's Salon!)

It's hard for me to trust hair stylist. I'm always skeptical and anxious before every hair cut. But Allan always puts me at ease.

I have curly hair, and there aren't many stylist who know how to work with it. Thank god Allan does. Curly hair has to be cut a specific way in order to reduce frizz. Allan can layer my hair without leaving me with an afro. I really enjoy getting haircuts by him, just cause I don't have to deal with someone telling me how I should and shouldn't get my hair cut. He's really sociable but not overwhelming. He actually seems like he genuinely cares about everyone of his customers.

But two of my cousins and I had an appointment with him at the same time. He managed to focus on each one of us individually and as a group while he was working on our hair. He's good with kids.

BOTTOM LINE: If you're looking for a new hairstylist that can step it up. Come to Allan.

(On behalf of my gf since she doesn't Yelp and only lurks the reviews)

My gf really loved her haircut, by Susan here at Allan's, and was thoroughly pleased.  She's recommends Susan if you want to get a haircut here. She looked like an Asian Supa-staruuu when got back from her appointment!

-1 star for the appointment debacle. Her appointment was initially scheduled at 2pm on a Saturday and the scheduler called her a couple of times days before the appointment to see if she can change to noon which she did not but I guess the scheduler got confused and changed her appointment anyways. =(

Over all she was happy with the results. Happy gf = more sex. Yay me! Lol.

Same day I posted my review, Allan sent me a note apologizing for what he did because he knew exactly what he did.

Would you really trust a DISHONEST MONEY HUNGRY person with your money? I wouldn't but only you can be the judge of that.

I went to Allan's a few months ago and it's taken me this long to decide how to rate the salon and if I'll be back.

When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist told me that Jesse was the best person to cut medium-length (at the shoulders) hair with layers. So she set me up with an appointment that very afternoon.

There was no waiting necessary when I arrived.  Wonderful!  I was quickly whisked away to get a shampoo and soon met Jesse, who seemed pretty nice.  He looked at my hair and asked what I wanted him to do.  I asked him for his suggestion at first, and he responded, "anything you like!".  Well, that wasn't much help.  Most stylist will offer some sort of suggestion based on the shape of your face and the texture of your hair.  I didn't get any feedback at all so I told him that I wanted a shorter version (a bit more than a trim) of my current style.  I asked him to cut my hair just above my shoulders.  Basically, keep the overall shape and the long layers with slightly more volume around the crown.

He said that it wouldn't be a problem... and claimed that he has worked on "so many Japanese and Korean clients" who have also requested this same style.  Umm... OK.  (I'm neither, but that's besides the point).

Jesse spent only 10 minutes cutting my hair and then began drying it.  I must have had a look of surprise, because he quickly said, "I'm not finished yet.  Don't worry!  This isn't how it's going to look... I'm going to cut more after I dry your hair."

After the blow-dry, he did resume his work and alternated between "styling" with product, a big round brush, and hairdryer and actually cutting my hair, which I found a little strange.  During this time, he also spent time chit-chatting in Vietnamese with employees and other clients who were waiting in the stations next to me.  No biggie - but it would have been more professional if I was the center of his attention while he worked.

When he was finally finished, I asked him to make sure that the cut was even and he made the effort to go back and snip around a little more and "thinned" out my ends.

What I didn't realize while I was still there was that my true cut was disguised by the "styling" that he was doing.  The round brush he used curled the back of my hair inward, so it looked shorter than it really was.

When I got home and washed my hair that evening, I noticed that Jesse had actually cut my hair into what looked like an overgrown mullet!  The back was still at shoulder length and the sides were thinned out and short almost to my chin.  To make things worse, the right side was slightly longer than my left side.... uneven!  Even when I tried styling it again, I could still see the mullet shape and I wasn't happy.

Yes, partly it was my fault for not being more diligent and checking his work thoroughly.  But I still feel like I was slightly duped because he covered up his mistakes.

Now that it is 3 months later, my hair has finally grown out enough where you can't see the mullet cut.  And the thinned-out ends are not so straggly and weird.  My hair now looks relatively decent, but it is once again time for another trim... and I doubt I will be back to Allan's.

I've been Allan's customer for 10+ years.  Allan never failed me. I love the way he cuts my hair, framing my face perfectly & making my Asian chubby face looks thinner.  The best part is that it's easy to maintain. He's very talented & up to new techniques/styles.

He's a great colorist. In fact, this guy just won the Goldwell 2008 Trendzoom award.  Told me he often travels to Europe or other states frequently to  learn and earn more prestige licences/certificates.

I like watching the way he cut hair. He's very quick but perfection is guaranteed  --- a true artist at work!

This salon doesn't work for me unfortunately.  I booked Susan for a hair cut after reading so many stellar reviews on Yelp.  Susan is an extremely nice and professional lady.  She gave me tips on how to wash my hair and style it at home.  It was very helpful and nice of her.  I asked for her suggestion on a hair style, and I ended up getting a very traditional bob cut.  Nothing special whatsoever.  I was totally UNimpressed.  And she charges an exorbitant $55 (she gave me 15% discount though, as per Yelp ad).  With $50+, I could've gotten a much more stylish looking cut at Calihair or Sassy Hair.  So..... I was a little disappointed.  This old boring looking bob style needs blow drying every day; otherwise, uh, it looks like my silly unsophisticated hair cut when I was a little girl.

Over the past few years, I also tried Allan a few times.  Wasn't impressed about him either.  The layers he did were not very good.  The styles he cut was also very traditional.  And it seemed like he didn't want to spend too much time or pay too much attention to clients who simply wanted a hair cut.  You may spice him up if you want a highlight or coloring.

So, if traditional looking bob style works out for you, and you don't mind paying $55 for that, you can try Allan salon.  If you prefer a more modern looking for the same price, try out Sassy Hair or Calihair, both in Cupertino.  If you want a bob cut with a lower price, there are plenty of places to try.  For me, I'm ready to try out another new place/stylist next month, because my current style won't last long.

P.S. forgot to mention, Susan described to me that she'll cut the sides a little longer than the back.  I was happy with that because that length will frame my face well based on my past experiences with many different cuts.  However, she ended up cutting everything straight across.  So... it looks very unsophisticated now.  While she was cutting, she also told me my previous stylist wasn't doing a good job in trimming the layers, and they do it differently at Allan's salon, like this.... But the layers I ended up getting are very minimal, not working well with my hair type.

I really like the place but sometimes, the people Allan has working for him is just not right.  This has happen to me before and I really feel like it is a complete waste of my time.

I called in for an appointment to get a haircut.  The lady must have asked for my name 3 times and asking for both First and Last name including giving her my phone number.  Before we hung up, she said we'll see you on so so day and time.  The day of, I call to confirm to my appointment and I swear it's the same lady I spoke with before who is saying that "I'm sorry, I don't see your name on the list".  Again she ask me for my name 3 times and also my phone number and have the nerve to ask me if we can set up another appointment for next week!  I told we talked and she tells me that it wasn't her and I must have talked with someone else.  Come on!

I was looking forward to my haircut since I seldom get one.  I even had to re-arrange my schedule to leave work early so I could get a hair cut.  Now, alas, I can't get a haircut and not getting paid because I'm leaving early and now have nothing to do!

Allan Allan Allan, I really like the hair cut you give me but this just breaks my heart and annoys the SHIT out of me.

OMG! My Hair looks AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU MICHEAL!!!!

I am SO in love with my new haircut & style and I have Mr.  Micheal to thank!!! He truly has the skills of a Shear Genius but only much much much better skills! I have finally found the BEST stylist and color expert!!! And I can't wait to go back to have my hair colored! He gave me some of the best advice and suggestions for my hair as it was very dry and damaged from going to all of these other salons. I am now happy to have found someone like Micheal who actually cares about your hair and spends time to educate you about proper haircare and maintainence.

Micheal is the ultimate hair expert, he knows EVERYTHING about hair even to the science aspect of it, I was totally impressed! He is very experienced and has received tons of first place awards and has traveled all over the world, so I was really lucky to have him work his magic on my hair!

To be honest, I have never experienced any hair stylist to have as much indepth knowledge as Micheal does. And quite honestly,  I was a bit hesitant about trying out another new place, but once again Yelp came through for me BIG TIME! ANd I was SO lucky to get in right away!!

Out of all of the salons in the area, I must admit Allan's Salon is by far THE BEST!! Their staff is highly skilled, professional, and knows exactly what they are doing! Their prices are by far reasonable and definitely unbeatable! You get the BEST care for only a fraction of the price! I was seriously in desperate need of a TOP Stylist that had as much experience and knowledge as Micheal. He gave me an indepth consultation and I really appreciated that. Noone has ever cared as much about my hair... not even those other pricey trendy salons in the area...

I was seriously about to give up on my hair until I went to see Micheal at Allan's Salon, he turned my overprocessed, dry, damaged hair... into soft, shiny, healthy looking hair!!! It is truly a miracle and he totally saved my hair!! My hair has never looked this good! And Allan's Salon is a really nice salon too....i was totally impressed!

Thank god for Micheal, he gave me the best advice I have ever received from a stylist and has the best technique I have ever seen! I will definitely be going back to get my hair colored next week! He suggested gold tones, I can't wait!! He is a true Hair God!!! And he saved my hair and brought it back to life!!! Now, my hair looks healthy and it has not looked this good in a while! He corrected my previous haircut and gave me fresh, new layers and was nice enough to curl the ends to give me some volume!! I feel like a total MILF now!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

The entire staff at Allan's was so nice and extremely helpful especially since I went in with stroller in tow.  They were so sweet  to my DD and even helped me get her out of the stroller while I was getting my hair done! They sat her on one of the salon chairs, soo cute! I am grateful to have such an awesome salon so close to my house where they will not mind if I bring my little girl! They even offered  her apple juice and did her hair in an up-do style for free! How SWEET! My little girl LOVED the attention and wants to get her first haircut there!

Thanks again, we had a wonderful time getting pampered :).  I would definitely recommend Micheal to all my family and friends!

Another fabulous wash and cut from Susan yesterday! Embarrassingly, I admit that I've gone a little too long since my last trip but Susan whipped my dreary and flat hair into shape--it's quite luxurious now :)

What I love about Susan is that she's extremely meticulous with her cuts and takes her time from start to finish. Let's not forget that she gave me a fabulous head massage during my wash--my fav!

She also is super sweet and gives great tips on how to style your hair once you're at home :)

    Thanks again Susan!

Realized it had been a while since I'd had my hair cut and it was getting out of control.  So checked out reviews on Yelp and found Allan's Salon.  Called and asked for an appointment, but it HAD to be today, since I was leaving for Vegas tomorrow.  I was given an appointment with Susan for 5pm.  And, *gasp* she was actually ready for me at 5pm, no waiting around!

Overall, a great experience, I was able to get in the same day and even got an appointment with one of the women who already has great reviews.  Susan was great, she really worked with the texture of my hair, which is baby fine and wavy, and gave me a great cut that gave me tons of body.  She also noticed when I came in that I like to put my hair back (when I'm working on the computer, just hadn't taken it down, yet) and after talking for a bit while washing my hair, she pointed out that I'm more the wash and go type in the morning.  Yeah, I sleep in as late as possible and only get up to get to work on time.  So, she showed me what to do if I didn't have time to dry my hair, and if I was able to dry it, various ways to play with it.  All in all, it's a very manageable style that I can deal with and won't be too fussy.  Not bad for $55.

Why not 5 stars?  It may be a bit petty, but apparently she doesn't like to go through towels.  My wet hair was down my back for a bit right after washing, so my shirt got wet.  Then, no towel under the smock, which meant stray hairs would wind up on my neck and down my back.  So, had to change shirts as soon as I got home because a damp shirt with small bits of hair is cold and itchy.

P.S. If you're a fan of Bumble and Bumble products, they use them here.  I hadn't used them in a while and forgot how much I liked their line.

Today's was my first visit to Allan's Salon, and I am so happy to say that I love my haircut!

I know, I know, five stars? Seems hasty! This is what I figure:
One star to start with, because the salon was nice, well-kept, my hoodie and purse were looked after, and I didn't have to wait for someone to notice my presence.  Another star goes to the fact that Allan was not only genuinely nice and clearly knew what he was doing, but also because, you know, he didn't cut my ear or anything else off.  I really felt well taken care of, which means a lot since I wear glasses and couldn't really see what he was doing.  That's another star.  I have yet to mention that the lady who shampooed my hair was friendly and worked a good ratio of gentle massage:thorough cleaning.  The mood in there was what other people have mentioned: unpretentious, warm, but also clearly professional.

What surprised me most happened after Allan had finished blow-drying my hair and asked me whether I liked the results.  I said yes (which also says something, since all I could sense was my blurry reflection).  However, Allan said he wasn't quite happy with it, and continued to thin out my hair by cutting layers with four scissors in one hand (at once!). I was really grateful for this, especially since Allan had asked me what I wanted/didn't want at the beginning of the hour, and I had mentioned my fear of pouffy-ness. I really recommend this salon! I so often walk out of a hair salon feeling slightly robbed and never really wowed by the haircut or style, but this time was different. Thus, I feel the five stars are warranted. Thank you, Allan!

There are so many few salons that care about customer satisfaction and the health and longevity of your hair.

After Allan saw my last review and how I was only moderately satisfied with the service with his other senior stylists, he urged me to come back.

Over the last year he has taken me to blonde to fixing my latest hair mishap over at Limon without jeopardizing the integrity of my hair. Allan actually cares about the condition of your hair and does whatever he can to protect it during services and he recommends the best products. Unlike other salons, your hair color will not fade in a few weeks and your hair health will not be compromised.

I have thick, frizzy, asian hair. All the hair cuts I got so far (Germans, Koreans, and Chinese)... I always end up looking like a mushroom after a while.

I read all those reviews and hoped that I would get a decent hair cut (I can live with for months until the next hair cut is due). But I was wrong.. I mean I got THE haircut and the best advice how to take care of my hair. My hair stylist (Jesse) was just awesome. I had some difficulties understanding him sometimes but the language barrier was not a barrier to give me a great hair cut!

He was very dedicated to make me look good~... Awesome job!
    Thank you so much!

I have managed to avoid getting my hair cut in the Bay Area for the last year due to a couple of bad experiences when I first moved here. I'm from Texas and let's face it, I have "Texas hair." Which, in the Bay Area means, "not Asian hair." I'm white with blonde hair (ok, it's dyed, whatever) so I can't walk out of a salon looking like Akira and A) be okay with it or B) look remotely normal.

I would wait for months until taking a trip home back to Dallas to get my hair done with my trusty hair stylist until I decided it's kind of a pain and I need to find someone local. Thanks to everyone on Yelp I found Allan. He is a badass. He gave me the exact haircut I have wanted for a year or so and I barely had to explain what I wanted. I didn't even bring a picture, which is amazing given I almost brought a picture of what I *didn't* want.

At first I thought he misunderstood what I asked for because he flipped the back part of my hair over my head and got all Edward Scissorhands on me, hair flying all over the place, etc. But when he was done I looked awesome! I asked for sideswept bangs and I got them. Long funky layers and I got them. The man is a genius. I look like "me" instead of a whacked out white-girl-trying-to-be-a-Japanese-rock-star.

He did a great job on my color, too. I've already gotten several compliments in the last 2 days. Thanks Allan, you're the best. I've definitely found my new stylist.

Allan contacted me the day of my review. I've written bad reviews before, but no owner has ever cared enough to approach me. He offered to fix my hair or refund my money. Allan was really nice. I'm amazed at how well he fixed my hair! My bangs are even the same length( but SO much better)!! Even after visiting some of the top hair salons in this area, I've never even seen some of the techniques he used. Allan seems really dedicated and cares a lot about making his customers happy. I came in around 7:30pm and the salon was closed and empty except for Allan and his last client who he was trying to make happy. By the time Allan was done with me, it was 8:40!

I will definitely come back here during college breaks, and I'm telling everyone I know to do the same.

I've been going to Allan's Salon for over 7 years. In the beginning, Allan himself would cut my hair, but over the years, Allan has hired extremely capable hair dressers that are both excellent stylists and have a very good eye for details. I have not had any complaints or problems in my 7 years there, the staff are always friendly, considerate, and professional. I have received great hair cuts from Eric, Tracy, and many others.

The salon itself is wonderfully decorated, it is always kept clean and has a variety of magazines to read and paintings to examine. The shelves are neatly organized, and a variety of hair care products can be purchased. Sometimes, Allan will show movies for those who are having particularly long hair appointments. Considering the extremely high quality of the work, the prices at Allan's Salon are very reasonable.

I've been to Allan's and have gotten my hair cut by Allan about 3 times. The first haircut was great, I thought finally someone that knows how to cut hair. The second time it was ok but the third time was horrible. I don't know if he just wasn't in the mood but for $65 a cut he should always be in the mood. He definetly knows how to cut hair but not consistent.
