I like this place. They make pretty darn good sandwiches. The staff is friendly and attentive when you're eating in, and the take out is convenient. I thought it was extremely neat when their chili got noted in Bon Appetite Magazine (tho their chili is not my style, I did have to try it). Not a big fan of their Monte Cristo (I prefer mine crispy!) but they can make my favorite standby, a BLT, a stand out. I've tried the bugers (reeeeally good and a ton of food) and their hush puppies are pretty damn awesome. Deviled Eggs not too bad. They were my first experience with poutin (good!) but I find the gravy can be a little hit or miss.

I just wish they did delivery while I lived in the area.

Okay, so don't order the Atomic Fries.  No, seriously, don't.   You cannot handle them.  I could barely handle them, and I can handle a lot of heat.  Thank GOD they had beer to wash it down with.

I also had a turkey Gobbler sandwich and it was perfect and came with home made coleslaw and a pickle that were also perfect.

Amazing.  But don't order those fries, and if you do anyway, remember I warned you.

Excellent sandwiches.  And as a bonus, they have poutine!  And hush puppies! While the sandwiches were great, I was completely sold by the list of sides.  It was so difficult to choose one.  We shared the two I mentioned, but there were also German potato salad, mac & cheese, deviled eggs, and more.

And you can get a beer w/your burger or sandwich! Despite the beer options, I had some delicious lemonade.

Everything is made with the utmost care and with the best-quality ingredients.

I love All-Star, just not everything. I've been there a few times and I've learned to choose carefully what I order: the good is good and the bad is bad.

I've dabbled in every food group offered:
the deviled eggs- delish, nicely seasoned, cheap
salad- it had apples or pears, spinach, walnuts, etc. and wasn't too   memorable either way (my fault for ordering a salad at a sandwich place I suppose.
fries- have been wonderfully satisfying at times with their skin and salty goodness, but others have been soggy and slightly off (note: the sandwiches, even though almost $10, do not come with fries  and instead with cole slaw and a pickle- which are good.)
falafel burger- dry and lacking flavor
specials- I would suggest choosing a special, which I often do. They change daily and are made to order. For instance, a cheese sandwich special caught my eye but had ham on it, so I just asked for it sans meat and it was delicious: it had fried egg, french dressing, cheddar, veggies on pressed wheat. Sounds weird but it was awesome.

Service has been slightly slow at times but its understandable since the place gets packed quickly. They are consistently accurate and helpful and seem to really enjoy their jobs. All-Star is a cool scene with alcohol available and the free oreos. Again, the menu has a lot but I would stick to the specials and you should be golden.

Will probably bump this review up a star once I find a sandwich/dish that I totally love, but after my first try of this place, I'm willing to continue my evaluation.

Tried the beef on a weck which was good and the bread was interesting (in a good way). It reminded me of a salt bagel but not that salty and not bagelish. Also gave their poutine a try. It was decent but just like good BBQ and the South, you're not getting real poutine anywhere south of Quebec. Lastly, I can never resist the siren call of chili and while ASSB's red is good and true to the Texan style, my quest for the perfect chili continues. However, theirs is worth a try.

Service was friendly and interior seemed like a nice spot to hang and eat a sandwich. Like I said, I want to try some of their other 'wiches, but so far I am liking the effort being put forth from this local establishment.

The idea of this place, and the menu itself, is 5 stars. I love sandwiches. And if i eat here a few more times i suspect i could bump this review up a star or so, but based on what i have eaten there, i have to go with 3.

I've been here only a handful of times and none of the sandwiches blew me away. They were good. Don't get me wrong. But i never had anything that made me desperate to come back. The BLT i took to go, and it was okay. The bread was a little over-toasted, which i usually don't mind, but they seemed to skimp on the mayo so the whole sandwich was pretty dry. Good bacon though, and it was tasty if you could get past the cotton-mouth. The only other thing i remember having was some turkey special with guacamole and stuff on it. I remember it being decent, very messy, they weren't stingy with the guacamole, but just not an amazing sandwich.

One downside to this place is that they close (relatively) early, so those of us who only make it into Cambridge in the evening can have a hard time getting in there during business hours.

On the plus side, they do offer a wide variety of sandwiches. I am willing to assume that there is plenty there that I would love. So far I haven't been wowed but I haven't been disappointed either. I will definitely come back here, and i think it is worth checking out at least once because they do take sandwiches off the beaten path.

I was over at Trina's Starlight Lounge with Costa from All Star Sandwhich Bar commenting on how good their Chilli was and he said his was one of the best in the country.

Needless to say I headed over there the next day to give it a try.

Needless to say I ate the entire bowl, and HAD seconds!

My new favorite chilli.

Best sandwiches in the city.

All-Star Sandwich bar is a great idea taken down a notch by the inconsistency of their kitchen, especially when it comes to take-out..

As an Inman Square resident for the last 8 years, I was psyched when this place opened a little more than 2 years ago.  S&S is okay for your sandwich fix, but it was cool to see a new joint move in promising the sandwich hall of fame and interesting takes on your common sub shop/deli offerings.  Unfortunately, it just doesn't always live up to that promise.

Don't get me wrong, this is a 3-star review so it must have something going for it, right?  The service is always prompt and friendly, even if it occasionally (read: regularly) goes over the line into "douchey-fake" territory.   If they mess something up, they will fall all over themselves to make it right.  Very customer-service oriented and will make anything on the menu to-order without any hint that it is a hassle.

If you are lucky enough to get one of the "chefs" that care about what they are putting out to hungry customers, you will have a great experience with the food as well.  Unfortunately, with about 10-15 visits split between dining in & take-out over the last few years, the odds of getting one of these good chefs is only about 50%.  Seriously, it is now a running joke with my girlfriend how half of the time they are so good and the other half of the time, their sandwiches are borderline inedible.

When it is good, it is great.  The "Larry" is a perfect example of how they can take something typical, in this case a chicken salad sandwich, and make it interesting.  Too bad half the time I get my take-out home only to find burnt bread and cold chicken salad in the middle of the sandwich.  This seems to be the case with anything you get take-out.  For another example, last night I had one of their burger specials take out.  I get home to find the fries are awesome, as always, but the burger is VERY well-done (I had asked for medium) and more like a hockey puck than delicious meaty goodness.  Thankfully they give you so many fires that I was not left hungry, but still tossed out what should have been a tasty burger after 2 bites.

I also have to mention that they have a bad habit of overtoasting the bread and slipping the burnt piece on the bottom of the sandwich...

I will say that whenever I have eaten in, it is a far better experience and have never been let down by the quality of the food.  (Maybe they just take more pride in the food that is served in-house?)  The beer selection is nice and the semi-weekly rotating veggie sides are usually awesome.  Soups also fall into the hit-or-miss category, sometimes almost tasting like they watered it down to get a few extra servings out of the batch.

So overall, in my experience, the general rule here is to avoid take out (1 1/2 stars) and eat in (3 stars), if possible.  As far as sandwiches go, there is no better option in Inman Square if you want something a little different.  However, if your tastes tend to skew towards the more typical deli sandwiches, I would be much more apt to recommend the S&S or even City Girl simply because they are more consistent with the quality of their food, especially take-out.

I LOVE this place!

The food is always consistently great, my favorite sandwich is the atomic meatloaf meltdown. It has the perfect amount of delicious grease, heat, and flavor. The gravy fries are also fabulous. Actually, every sandwich I've ever had here is fantastic. They also serve pitchers and buckets of schlitz pounders. (Those are 16 ounce cans for you rookie alcoholics)

The prices are reasonable, waitstaff are efficient, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Truly an all star of a restaurant serving all star sandwiches. Not a single complaint.

I'm not a big fan of their sandwiches. Better can be had elsewhere for less. I do, however, love their hell fries. Someday I'll have to try their poutine. A word of advice for the uninitiated: don't hesitate. Initially take one fry at a time in quick succession. You'll build up a tolerance. Before the plate is empty you'll find yourself able to shovel multiple fries into your mouth at a time and lick your fingers clean without missing a beat.

Hangover sandwiches at their finest. With oreos and pretzels at the counter while you wait. And you'll wait.

Slightly limited on the vegetarian specials sometimes, but I've always been able to feed myself.

My colleagues and I arrived in Boston to help Boston Yelp Community Manager, Leighann F, throw the Yelp bash of the year!  There was lots of work to get done, but Leighann knew that feeding us every few hours would keep us extra happy. She's a smart cookie.  And while there weren't any cookies, but the day started off with some pretty awesome sandwiches.

I ordered the Grilled Falafel Burger: falafel, hummus, and veggies.  So yummy...and even yummier was Jane K's order of chili cheese fries. Fortunately, Jane was nice enough to share that huge order of fries with the team.

I've got colleagues that keep me well fed AND are willing to share. Am I lucky or what?

I loved this place when i lived in Inman.  I used to swing by on my way home from the gym since my roomie and I were kitchenless for about 3 months!  I think the sandwiches are awesome.  I love the gobbler, the beef on weck, the cuban.  I've never had a bad sandwich here.  I've had a few of the other things - chili, mac and cheese..all good.  Unfortunately I haven't been in awhile.  They always have a great specials menu and they have poutine!!

It's a tight fit and service can be a bit scattered but i think the sandwiches make up for it.

Nom nom sandwiches nom nom.

This is my 5 year old baby sister's favorite restaurant, as in, "Let's go to the sandwich bar!" Great deal of $3.45 for a kids' grilled cheese with bacon -- her default order.

Plenty for us older folks, too. Yeah, nine bucks for a sandwich is a bit much, but we're talking some serious sandwiches. The Monday Rachel, Sunday Monte Cristo, or the any-day Beef on Weck sandwiches are phenomenal. Combined with some serious fries (hell fries if you're digging the spice that day), it's a great sandwichey  meal.

Amazing.

Hot, tasty, fresh,  creative combinations that satisfy my sandwich Jones.

Not to mention the cheese fries are out of this world.

(Also, they have good pickles--this is a MUST for real sammich enthusiasts.)

Generally they've been good food, but pretty inconsistent service.

Most recently though, they've just sucked.  The food took a while the last time I was there, then they screwed up my order, took about 20 minutes to bring out a new sandwich for me, didn't comp anything or apologize, and then screwed up my friend's take-away order.

Given Darwin's is just down the road, why not go to them?  They're a better sandwich place, and their servers aren't incompetent jerks.

Not bad, but not amazing either. Had the Turkey Club and it was different then I'm used to but if you live around Inman it's definitely a place to go to at some point.

I found the chili to be very homemade but I prefer it thicker and with stronger flavor other than being spicy.

Next time I'll try the meat loaf sandwich to see how that works out.

What!  I haven't reviewed All Star Sandwich Bar yet?  What is that about?

Well, I've been there many times.  It's always good.  Last night, I went there for dinner, in fact.  I got the veggie sandwich of the day, which featured zucchini, arugula, fresh mozzarella, and artichoke puttanesca.  It was quite good, but you know what made it divine?  Dipping it into the tabasco remoulade that accompanied the jalapeno hush puppies.  The hush puppies came with a bowl of the stuff, and there was a bunch left over when the hush puppies were gone, but we didn't let that stuff go to waste.  No siree.  That stuff was so good I would have bathed it had that been a menu option.  SO. GOOD.

They have good iced tea, nice beer selection.  Prices are a little high, which is why I'm holding out on that final star, but this is a great standby.

We stopped here after quite a few beers so bear in mind the star factor has a +/- 1.24 probability of error built in to this model.

I absolutely destroyed the Atomic Meatloaf. Big fan of this sandwich.

The super spicy fries... were super spicy, but not flavorful. I paid dearly for the spice the following day.

I want to go back. Fun place. Good food. Cheapish.

I would recommended checking it out!

Excellent food. If you're broke, try the deviled eggs at 3 for a buck. Very good help and wow - I had the Monte Cristo yesterday - wow - wonderful. I've also had an assortment of their other sandwiches and their meat is always excellent (no slimy deli meat here). If there's a line, just grab a free-range "oreo" while waiting. My pup loves them too as one of the young men working there always brings her a slice of heaven when we are waiting for a to-go order.

I've been here a couple of times and loved it every time.  Also, the friends I go with never seem to complain.

I like that this place serves alcohol and pitcher sangrias.  It works so well with the sandwiches.

My go-to sandwich is the Atomic Meatloaf sandwich.  (Sauce is always on the side for me.  It's just TOO spicy to be doused on the sandwich.)  Jack cheese and sweet  red onion jam topping off a moist slice of meatloaf...it's sublime!

The flies are also very good and you have several options to choose from such as, cheese, gravy, chili cheese, hell (hot sauce), and poutine.  Definitely order some to go with your sandwich.

You're probably thinking it is a bit pricey for _just_ a sandwich but it's definitely worth it.

FREE OREOS!!!!!!!  I add 1 star for that.  That will be the end of the stars, though.

I'm glad to see Yelpers don't hold the All-Star Sandwich Bar in the same esteem that seemingly everyone I've talked to since moving to Inman does.

I've given it four chances now, with wildly different orders every time.

WHY IS THERE TABLE SERVICE???
The first time I came in, I was confused.  I ordered a sandwich at the big counter like you would any other sandwich place, then sat down at a table and ate it.  Then I saw a waitress go over to other tables.  She was nice and brought me water even though I had already paid.  A little awkward.  Table service might be endearing or at all appropriate if they were aiming to be some high-end gourmet purveyor of finely-crafted sandwiches, but as that first experience taught me, they are not.

There are some very interesting ingredients and combinations thereof, but when you get right down to it, most of the offerings are still just a pile of greasy meat and cheese weakly supported by two pieces of bread.  More creative, but the flavors are no better than your average deli.  If you want fancy sandwiches, try the likes of Avila or Chez Henri.  Barely more expensive.

Also, cole slaw as a side is not hip and cool just because it's unusual.  There's a reason piles of cabbage and mayo are marginalized as sides.  Granted, it's better than most other slaws, but still, it is what it is.

When I go to get this kind of sandwich (not fancy), it's usually because I don't have the time or don't want to spend the money on something better.  But with only a couple stools at a window ledge available to you if you don't want to be waited on, you're almost forced to spend more time and spend more money.  For the $12-$16 it costs me to get out of there, I could've gotten lunch anywhere around Inman (Punjabi Dhaba, Spice + Rice...).

If you're going to go there anyway, the best luck I've had was with the veggie options.  NEVER a salad.  Far and away the worst thing I ordered (though I should've known better to order a non-sandwich at a place with "sandwich" in the name).  What else have I had....a Reuben and a Turkey sandwich-of-the-day that both sounded a lot more interesting than they delivered.

There's more venom in this review than normal just because I keep hearing people rave about this place and have given it several chances now.  I'm tapping out.

Today the hubby and I were driving to Somerville and on our way our stomachs were growling. We drove by this cute little place on the corner of Cambridge St. called All Star Sandwich Bar... lucky we had a couple quarters to stop and park at a meter.  We'd never been here before but we thought we'd give it a try...the sign and the outside were cute and appealing to the eye.

We walked on in.. it was about 1:30 in the afternoon and the place is packed. Luckily a table opened up.. and we were seated immediately.
The walls were covered in chalkboards with the menu written on them. But not in an annoying in your face kinda way.. it looked really cool.

Looking at the menu..immediatly we noticed the side choices and there were cheese fries. Ok.. we were starving and anything sounded good.. and those cheese fries were tempting. They came out before the food.. and cleaned the plate. They were covered in a mozzarella cheese with some herbs on top. The fries looked like they were fresh cut..not frozen. But who knows.. they were really good and not greasy!

I ordered the lunch special which was a  Half Sandwich --BBQ Brisket with American cheese and caramelized onions on sourdough bread.  Came with a choice of Salad or soup. Today's soup was the Texas Chili..I asked the waitress if it was spicy and she said it was very spicy. So I passed on that and took the salad. I was needing any heartburn today. The sandwich as salad was very good..and very filling. The bread was nicely grilled and crunchy but not hard. The onion kinda made it soggy on some parts.. but I think ate it so quick.. it didn't bother me.

The hubby ordered a full Funky Fried Chicken Sandwich. On the menu it said the chicken is dipped in buffalo sauce.. but him not being a fan of buffalo asked if they could dip in BBQ. And so they did.. and he loveddddd it!

To wash this all down.. I stuck with water.. but he choice their homemade lemonade. Very tasty.. not so sweet and not so sour. Really good.

We would definitely return and might even bring a few friends!

Lunch?  For dinner?  Sure, why not?

Great service, always friendly and oddly attractive waitstaff.  Free oreos always a plus.

Sandwiches are decent, not as good as some I've had but better than many others, and much better than what I could make at home unless I really tried.  Worth it if you're in the area, although a bit on the pricey side (for sandwiches, that is).

I had heard All Star Sandwich Bar was "all that" and decided to give it a try.  It's old space in Inman Square converted to be somewhat modern and you can see the kitchen and how they make the sandwiches right in front of you.  Gives you that "feel good" sensation a la Wendy's with much higher quality food.  Staff is very nice and fast.  Free Oreos!

I tried the pulled pork and it was HUUUGE.  Very good, high-quality sandwich.  I'd like it if it came with the pile of fries (that's actually what they call them - and they hand-cut...yum) rather than slaw, though.  I think I want to give the atomic meatloaf a shot next time.

Prices are a bit higher than they should be, but not by much.  Not so sure table service is warranted here.  I think it might work a bit better as a order-and-sit style.  But overall - very good, one of a kind shop worth returning to.

Hit up Christina's next door for ice cream for a nice dessert after a sandwich here.

I was sure I'd reviewed this place already. I can even picture what my imaginary review said. However, since that review is, indeed, imaginary...I'll have to write something else.

At this point, there's not a lot to say that hasn't been said already. This place makes great sandwiches. I'm particularly fond of the Cuban and the Gobbler. They also have poutine, french fries covered in cheese curds and gravy. They forgot to mention the cheese curds in Super Troopers. You know you're curious, so just try it!

It can be tough to get a seat here around lunch time, so I usually end up ordering takeout. If you're going that route, I definitely recommend calling them up and asking what the daily specials are. They have a fancy new automated answering machine, and pressing 1 takes you right to a recording of someone rattling off the specials list. There's always a 1/2 sandwich 1/2 soup combo, something veggie, some kind of special grilled cheese, and something Funky.

The Funky seems to be inspired by those nights in college when you'd stumble into the kitchen and create some ridiculous concoction using every ingredient left in the fridge. Some amazing things are created as a result, but they're impossible to remember the next day. Last Friday's funky was a ground chicken burger with pesto, mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, onion strings, avocado spears and garlic aioli on focaccia. It was insane. It was delicious. It was insanely delicious.

Whether you're an adventurous sandwich eater or you'd prefer to stick to the classics, All Star Sandwich Bar won't disappoint.

I try to limit my visits to All Star Sandwich Bar, because an order of their poutine or their onion rings is inevitable -- both are super yummy but fat-laden to a degree that my stomach doesn't appreciate, while my heedless mouth orders my fingers, hands, and arms to keep delivering savory morsels to my lips.  You'd think my mouth would be more sympathetic to the limits of my stomach, but apparently my mouth is all id and no ego.

Their sandwiches are better than average --I'm especially fond of the pulled pork (not available every day; I think it's Thursdays).  As a native of Western New York State, I give them 2 thumbs up for their excellent rendition of beef on (kimmel)weck.

In short:  yum!  But it would be better for me if I didn't like onion rings so much...

All Star? no. Sandwich Bar? yes. Visited here and while I didn't love it, the food was solid & the service was great. I had the special pulled pork BBQ sandwich and it was tasty, but for the price tag came with some pretty weak sides...coleslaw? sweet pickles? where are my fries/chips/veggies?

the hush puppies were good- little spicier than I like, but they were still tasty.  I think the fact that they give away free oreo's really sealed the deal that I'll be back here , though. Looking forward to trying another sandwich that will hopefully boost the star rating here.

I dream about it.  I hate people who gave the Sandwich Bar less than 3 stars because that's f'ing impossible and therefore makes you a douche and not the restaurant.  The portions are huge, and if you don't agree you're a huge fatty.

ENJOY!

This place has been on my radar for a while after I moved to Cambridge and read about it in one of my Gourmet or Bon Appetit magazines. I had the chance to eat here when some friends were in town and we decided to head to Inman to find a place to eat. We walked down the block on Cambridge St north of Prospect, but quickly returned back here for food, beer, and ability to pay by credit card.

The place is casual with a relaxed atmosphere. Cheerful blackboards describe the daily specials. We take our seats and peruse the menu which looks like one page is updated daily with specials. Prices range from about $8 for the cheapest sandwich to mid-teens. I was deciding between a corn dog and a hot dog, then drooled over the Gooda burger so I had to get it. Others ordered the veggie sandwich, a ceasar salad, and the Eastern Carolina BBQ pork sandwich. All were great.

So I'm not a huge meat eater, preferring seafood most of the time. I like to save my real meat intake for good quality beef. Omg, the Gooda burger - totally worth it. The sourdough bun was toasted goodness with several strips of perfectly crispy bacon with tamarind ketchup on top of a slice of Gouda cheese melted on the beef I requested well done with slices of avocado underneath. All this wonderousness sat next to a side of cole slaw and a pile of wimpy looking, but so so tasty hand-cut salted fries.

Beer and wine available. Pitchers of beer, too! I realized I hadn't seen a pitcher of beer since I left Houston. Boston is full of Puritans. Anyhoo, I did not see any sign of free pretzels, but the free Oreos were at the counter. I was too full to grab one. I'd come back for a well-made sandwich with a twist.

All Star Sandwich Bar is one of my favorite places to eat lunch in the city.  It's the kind of thing I plan a day or two before, and then look forward to right until I go.  It's a very charming establishment perched on a corner in Inman Square.  If you time it carefully, you can avoid long waits on weekends and fully enjoy this gem.

ASSB features a great selection of exotic sandwiches in addition to a lineup of solid staples (i.e. the reuben and the burger).  It's hard to say whether their custom creations are better than their staples.  It's really hard to go wrong here.  Also, they serve an assortment of different appetizers (hint: try the fries, they're outstanding!) and beers for the weary traveller...or the super glutton (any trip to ASSB promises to be a heavy ordeal on your stomach).  Not to worry, though, you'll be very satisfied even if you need to be turned sideways and rolled out the front door by a member of ASSB's wonderfully friendly staff.

Do yourself a favor.  Find a friend (or several), head on down to ASSB, and rock your world.

Ever make love to a sandwich?  Ever want to?  This place is so good it may be too good.  With classic and updated takes on the art of taking things and stuffing them between two pieces of bread for mouth sex, All Star Sandwich bar never fails to please your pie hole.  All Star is a brothel of breaded delights with the menu reading like sandwich pornography.  One word: PASTRAMINATOR.  Multiple words describing the preceding word: N.Y. STYLE BLACK PASTRAMI WITH SWISS CHEESE & HOUSE MUSTARD GRILLED ON DARK RYE.  One word summation: love.  The daily specials are always delicious, so get them.  Also The Atomic Meatloaf Meltdown, get that one too.  If you can't eat both, take one home.

Now, knowing how to run a restaurant, there is beer and wine on the menu.  Get a cold one, kick back and enjoy the cozy seating and open kitchen.

Bottom Line: RUN here, trample all in your way.

I've only been here once, so perhaps I will add a star after another visit.  I had heard great things, so I was a bit let down on my first visit here.  My sandwich was good, and I liked the beer selection.  However, I felt the menu was a bit limited.  I think a good sandwich place should have more options.

Also, the hipster couple sitting next to us did nothing to stop their young kids (3-4ish) from running around and screaming.  Seriously?  You don't have to beat them or anything, but at least try to make them sit down and be quiet.  You're in a public restaurant...not your got dammed living room.

I love, love this place.

Free Oreo's highlight the entrance, other than that great sandwich smell.
Each day has a special sandwich.  I always get the chili, which comes with cornbread that is amazing.

Also, they may have some of the best sangria in Boston!

I've eaten here twice, but realistically, I doubt I'll be back.

My first experience was with takeout ordered a reuben, and it was excellent, one of the better ones I've had around town.

The other day, a friend of mine and I decided we'd go there for a late lunch, and everything went downhill. Now, there were at least two people working front-of-the-house at the time and the place seemed almost empty. Our waitress (tan, accent, long curly hair, tattoo on wrist) took our drink orders promptly, but took almost ten minutes just to bring back a coke and a coffee. I ordered chili for an appetizer and that took at least another ten minutes to reach the table. Meanwhile, we ordered and I finished my chili.  Just as I was finishing my chili, they brought out another cup of chili by mistake.  When we had already been waiting about fifteen minutes for our sandwiches, our waitress came back and said that she forgot to put our orders in and asked us again what we had. About another fifteen minutes later, our sandwiches arrived.

The food itself was pretty good, as I thought it would be, and I was especially satisfied with the Beef on Weck. However, I don't spend money to wait that long for a coke, a cup of chili, and a sandwich. I work at Legal Seafoods part-time, and we're faster than that on a Saturday night with a wait to be seated. The service seemed, at times, half-awake. NOT a good showing for a place that would only have to offer AVERAGE service for me to write a glowing review.

My boyfriend and I are huge fans of this place. For awhile we were coming on an almost weekly basis. I TRY to get the specials when I can, they are just so unique and tasty, but we just keep finding ourselves wanting either the atomic meatloaf or the Gobbler.

Anything listed as "spicy" can come as "not spicy" which is good.

The sandwiches don't come with fries, but a pickle and DELICIOUS fresh coleslaw. This will fill you up, so fries would really be too much. Sometimes we'll get them if we're with a big group to nibble on and they are very good. They offer Poutine here, I've never tried it, but if you are a homesick canadian that might be useful knowledge. The onion rings are great too. You don't get that thing where you take a bite and the onion comes out and you're left with a hollow fried husk.

While there have been a couple times where our waiter was stoned out of their gourd and either inattentive or just slow, the waitstaff is generally very good! The host who greets you is very friendly.

It's usually packed for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays with yuppies and their babies (IS THIS ORGANIC MAC AND CHEESE!? MY MORTIMER IS ON A MACROBIOTIC DIET), but for dinner on a week night you'll have no problem finding a seat. When it's packed and you're trying to get a table the other patrons can be rather pushy, but it's worth it.

EDIT: Went again recently with my little sister and they were really nice about letting us split things. We got the sandwich halves on separate plates with our own pickles and own coleslaw. I thought that was really nice of them.

I should really wait on writing this review ... but I have waited too long. I have eaten here a good 12-17 times and only once did i have a bad sandwich.   I just ate there about 20 min ago and I am still a bit emotional from the heaven I shoved in my mouth.   One thing i will say that I did not see in other reviews is you really need to order off the special menu.  Every time I am in town I get to try a new fantastic creation.  Just leave some time for a nap after. You will need it.
