Seriously, I cannot say enough great things about All Star. We've been going to them for daycare for months now and they couldn't be more accommodating. We've even switched up the days that our dog goes to see them because of our fickle schedules and they always happily work with whatever new schedule we throw at them. Also, we recently started buying our food through them since they deliver too, which helps with our busy work/parent schedules and it saves us tons of time and money. We recently ran out and forgot to pre-order but All Star came through the next day and delivered us another bag of food. Awesome!
Our gal gets picked up and dropped off always freakishly overjoyed to see her buddies at All Star. That has to be a good sign. She lives to play fetch and they indeed throw that ball all day long for her. These guys rock, seriously. -

These guys are great. Simple as that -
What's most important to me is that they take good care of my dog. If you're concerned with image, or a cluttered desk - head somewhere else. If you're looking for a good, trustworthy group of guys who will watch your pet as if it was their own this is the place to go.
See, I can offer a unique perspective. I live a few doors down and work from home most days. I see these guy walking dogs all over the neighbored and the dogs are always happy and so are the walkers on the other end of the leash. I've never seen them loose control of a dog, be aggressive, short tempered or anything of the sort.
Not to mention when Sadie (my dog) crosses paths with anyone from the AllStar team she lights up.
Keep it up. -

All Star is THE BEST! My dog loves everyone there, and they love her just the same. I know she looks forward every day to going for walks with her wonderful walker, David - and when she hangs out at daycare not only do I get to watch her on "TV" while I'm at work, but she comes home happily exhausted. (and isn't it true that a tired dog is the best dog?) We temporarily moved out of the city and I had to (gasp!) use other pet care services, and it was just never the same. So happy to have All Star back in our lives.
Highly recommend All Star! -

My boyfriend works here so I'm just commenting as someone who knows the guys that work there. While we've never have had a dog while living in Chicago, I've always had at least 2 in my house growing up and I cannot wait to get one of my own. That being said, I know for a fact that he (and the guys he works with) LOVE those dogs! They seriously get spoiled and play all day, it's cute. It's so nice to sit at my desk and be able to check in on the webcam for a little entertainment!
I also will say, in response to the claims of people who say their dogs have been bitten, it does happen. I know for a fact though that there are always people watching the dogs every second and when my boyfriend is there, he's not texting on his phone or anything. Those dogs get undivided attention but sometimes arguments break out and those little tiffs are broken up immediately and things always go back to normal. It's inevitable! They're dogs! In order to prevent it 100% you'd basically have to lock the dogs up, and then the complaints would double!
All in all, I just think it's good for people to know that the people that work here are honest and love dogs and baby them like their own pets! -

The dog gets 3 walks a week and goes to daycare twice a week through All Star. I hate to be one of those dog people, but it really feels like he has caregivers than he does people who simply watch him. They remember his likes and his problems, and let us know if anything unusual happens.
I feel like I should write more, to talk them up or annoy the people who gave them bad reviews, but there's not much to say. They're nice people who like dogs, and seem to like my dogs, and, for that, we like them. -

Whenever we go out of town, we trust All Star Pet Care. The staff at All Star Pet Care genuinely love dogs and it shows! They are very thorough with screening the dogs that they watch, which, as a dog 'parent,' is very comforting to know! You might expect less from a dog boarding facility, but when it is your dog involved, rest assured that they are looking out for his/her best interest!
Our pug loves All Star Pet Care! The best part about their boarding service is that they let the dogs hang out together in one big area, not in individual runs or cages. This really seems to make the dogs enjoy their stay as they become part of the 'pack.' When we drop off our pug at All Star, she doesn't even notice when we leave because she is so interested in checking out the other dogs. Also, I really enjoy the webcam! It let's us check on her from time to time :) -

I can't comment on their pet care services, but what I can comment on is the [human] customer service.
I called about 2 and half weeks prior to needing to board my dog. As I've never been here before, they required that my vet fax over records, then would be permitted to schedule a temperament test and only after passing the test would I be allowed to ask them to hold a spot for my dog on my selected dates. I suppose they are just covering their bases, but wouldn't a credit card be sufficient to at least hold a spot for a period of time!?
Anyway, I specifically asked the person [man] that I spoke to how far in advance I would need to make the appointment, and I also specifically referenced the exact dates that I would need to board. He told me that it can vary, but that they can usually accommodate with a few days of notice. Fine. Great.
So I then had to schedule a vet appt to get another vaccine that they required and the dog didn't have, then subsequently had my vet fax the dog's records over.
THEN, this same man emailed me complaining that the vet had not sent him a concise enough set of records and that it was THIRTEEN WHOLE ENTIRE PAGES THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO SORT THROUGH. OH THE HORROR. This was followed up with a phone conversation (I called him) where he continued to complain about the records that were sent and challenge me about the fact that my vet is the ONLY vet who has EVER done this to him! He finally conceded that he had what he needed so we could proceed with scheduling a temperament test. Fine. Great.
A few hours later, I received a curt email informing me that they no longer had any availability on the days that I needed and that in the future I should call at least 2 weeks prior. (It was 10 days prior at this point)
I can only assume that he just decided that he didn't want to do business with someone whose asshole vet had the audacity to send THIRTEEN WHOLE PAGES of records to him and so instead gave me the brush off.
Regardless, this guy was annoying as hell from the first interaction that I had with him (though I initially chalked it up to enthusiasm?) and continued to get more and more annoying each time we interacted.
I'm sure it's a fine dog boarding facility, but make sure you call well in advance and be ready to play by their rules, because man, will you be lucky as hell if they'll let you purchase their services.
P.S. None of the other reputable dog boarding facilities that I have contacted refuse to allow you to reserve a spot prior to jumping through a few hoops. Who knows why, maybe it's because they got confused and think you are the customer. -

I've been taking my dog, Frankie, to All Star after I got him from the shelter.
A friend of mine told me about All Star, so a few weeks after I brought him home, I called and asked a few questions. The owner John was very friendly on the phone. I brought the pup in for a temperment test, and I was really nervous since he was a rescue, but Frankie passed and I've been taking him there ever since.
When I pick him up and drop him off, the staff usually asks me how he is or tells me how his day was. I sometimes have to use their doggie drop off service when work requires me to be there past 7, and I love coming home to a message about Frank's day. Even better, they have helped me a bit with his obedience training.
I dig the webcam, but in all honesty I can get distracted just watching the dogs play and have to remind myself to work. Still, it's nice to have. Some of my coworkers know I take him there, and sometimes they even ask to watch for a second or two.
I have never had a negative encounter with anyone on the staff. Any issues I have are addressed promptly and professionally. Sometimes Frank comes home with some minor cuts and scrapes, but I know that he plays hard, so I don't really mind. Plus, he get's those at the dog park anyway.
On top of that, Frank has had two pretty rotten medical issues, one of which John helped me work out. Frankie has a sensitive stomach, and John worked with me to find the best food. In fact, I thought I had found a good food--after a trail bag I bought a 26lb bag, and about two days in Frank was back to gastrointestinal fireworks, so John bought the bag back from me and found me a better one. Now I let All Star take care of my food orders too. Talk about full service!
Ask any of my friends, family, or coworkers, and they will all tell you that I sing All Star's praises when I can. Frank gets all excited on the days he goes there. The next day he sleeps all day. He loves the guys that work there, and they seem to like him back. I've left him overnight, and I've been happy with them every time.
I dread ever having to move away! -

John and his staff take excellent care of the dogs. Where most doggy daycare places are run to maximize business, All Star is quality-driven. Dogs are subject to a "temperament test" and must be up to date on shots.
Also, drop ins are not encouraged - which is only a problem when I call last minute and they are at their max. Case in point, it has taken me about four months to rate All Star because I am reluctant to share this hidden gem. But these guys deserve the business and rating.
So, there. -

I boarded my australian cattle dog here for a week and watched him online and it seemed like he was being well taken care of. The staff was always helpful when we called in to see how he was doing... Oh and the staff did a temperament test on my dog before we could sign him up which i thought was really responsible.... at first.
When we picked up our dog we noticed that he had a HUGE gash on his face. Apparently another dog had bit him a couple of days before we picked him up and no one told us!! For as much as dog boarding costs, I was really disappointed that no one had told us or noticed this! -

My dog, Leroy, seemed to have a great time here. We needed a daycare place for him for one day while we were having some work done on our condo--he can't resist being constantly underfoot. For us, it was a great location (2 blocks away), GREAT price, and small number of dogs. No contest.
Leroy is not really a dog's dog...he much prefers people. So I was a bit nervous leaving him. However the next day, he wanted to go back! He usually crawls in his bed & goes to sleep in the mornings, but instead he followed me around the condo and waited by the door for us to head over there again. I felt bad leaving him at daycare, and then felt bad leaving him at home the next day...you can't win.
We will definitely be back in the future.Listed in: dog days

Sure, you could board your dog at PetSmart and save yourself a couple bucks, but I guarantee there is no way the big box stores can give your pooch even half the care and attention that Jack (John) and crew dole out at All Star.
We've boarded Milo over the holidays (and a couple other times when we were out of town overnight) and have had nothing but good experiences here. Jack is always flexible on pick up and drop off times too, which is a big plus.
Our last visit was for a grooming and nail trim. Milo's nails were pretty long and one of them ended up getting cut a little too close (no fault of the groomer...this happens quite a bit as he's a squirmy little rat terrier). When I came by to pick him up he had started bleeding a bit (which I hadn't even noticed) and Jack got down on the floor with Milo to apply some meds to his paw.

We have been sending our mutt here for daycare for about 6 months. . At daycare, he runs, barks and dances on his hind legs! And then comes home tired! It's pretty awesome.
I like that the dogs are "interviewed" before coming to daycare and that there is lots of space for the dogs inside. The building has an open setup so you can see where the dogs stay and there is a webcam you can watch during the day. -

I love the staff at all star! Everyone is super friendly and accommodating, and I love having the web cam available to check in and see how my dog is doing. My dog has been coming for 8 months now, she's never been sick or gotten hurt by bigger dogs even though she's only 8 pounds. She goes to daycare 5 days a week, and every day she comes back tired and happy. When I come to pick her up someone usually has something funny to update me on, and occasionally they even send me funny little stories about something that has happened during the day. I would absolutely recommend sending your pup here!

My dog gets excited just walking down the sidewalk on our way to ASPC. when we pick her up after work, she comes home, eats dinner, then goes to bed because she has been playing all day. it's great to know she can have a fun day in the care of good people who love dogs just as much as I do. I always know she is in good hands when we drop her off at ASPC. john and the rest of his staff run a really tight ship. i will recommend this place to anyone who is in the area. the webcam is great also!

I recently needed a new day care facility for my labrador retriever Sam, when his former day care closed on very short notice. In a bit of a panic, I remembered that I had seen All Star here on Yelp and that it had uniformly high ratings and glowing reviews. I called John, the owner, and after confirming Sam was up to date on vaccinations, quickly set up a temperament test. They gave him a thorough test to make sure he 'plays well with others', and now he's part of their gang on a daily basis.
From watching the webcam constantly (don't tell my employer), I can see that John and his staff are extremely engaged with the dogs - constantly playing with them, tossing a ball around, and taking them outside for potty breaks and occasional walks around the block too. Sam has never been happier (or more tired at night), and he drags me to All Star every morning. I'm very glad to have found such a great facility with a caring, fully engaged staff. -

I've used All Star for boarding and dog day care, and I must say I'm pleased. The prices are VERY reasonable, and the facility is clean and well located. My dogs come home exhausted and happy, which is exactly what I want! Tails are a-waggin' when my guys walk through the front door.

I always leave my little Dogwai with John when I need to rid myself of the little monster for one reason or another (and she gives us plenty of good reasons). She consistently has a great time, even though she is a small dog and many of his other resident pups are bigguns. He is great with the dogs and has a good regular group of guests at his place. He really seems to understand dogs and their needs and I highly recommend this place to anybody, any time, that is in the market for the services he provides.

I really think its the staff writing all these reviews...
I read all the reviews on here, citysearch, etc. and thought this sounded like a great place to board my dog. It's right around the corner from my house, which would be much more convenient than driving all the way up to the Bark Bark Club on Broadway, where we usually board my dog. I chose this place over all the others specifically because it said they have 24 hour staff. When I'm away, I want to make sure someone is with my dog at all times.
First I called and talked to John, the owner. He sounded very flustered - there were a lot of dogs barking in the background and he couldn't hear me well. OK, fair enough. I faxed him my dog's vaccination records and called back that afternoon. He had to call me back, and when he did he tried to get me to have my dog come for a day of daycare (at my expense) so she got used to the facility. I declined and we scheduled the temperament test.
When we arrived for the temperament test, the first thing I realized was that there is no A/C. My dog is short haired and small and she was panting up a storm, lying on the floor. I can't imagine how big, hairy dogs would be. Next I noticed how disorganized everything was. It was the end of the day so things were hectic, but the desk was completely cluttered with things, and we had to tell the staff twice who we were. When they were getting dogs to be picked up by their owners, several of the dogs got out and my husband and I had to help chase them down. They even said "yeah, this is why we like to do temperament tests during the DAY." Um, sorry to inconvenience YOU, we have jobs.
When they tried to take my dog back for the test, she put on her brakes and would NOT go back. The guy had to drag her. That should have told me something right then. Normally she LOVES people. When she was in the pen, she did nothing but try to get out. She has never acted that way before.
When we were done, the guys took our information (which took a long time because they kept getting it wrong, even though I spelled it). I asked what happened now - did they have us booked for the boarding dates? I was told "No, but you'll be fine. Just call us a couple days before to remind us you're coming." Ummm....ok.... Then, just to confirm, I said "You guys have 24-hour staff, right?" His reply was, "Yeah, talk to John about that. Sometimes if there's just a couple dogs here he'll leave them and go home." NOT OKAY. If you don't have 24-hour staff (and apparently you don't), don't advertise that you do! I knew right then that even if they told me someone would be there, I had no way of knowing if they actually would. That sealed the deal for me. I called the next day and cancelled my non-existent reservation.
Go to Canine Crews instead. I know the owner personally and she is fantastic. Everything is highly organized - you can even do reservations online once you are an existing customer. They send a report card of your dog's activities every night, with pictures. PLUS, they offer a COMPLIMENTARY day of daycare for your dog to become familiar with the facility before you board them. And by the way - when my dog went to this place for her temperament test, she was happy and excited to be there. -

When I saw all the reviews for All Star I had to give them a try. Normally we bathe Mac and Puggie ourselves because they have had so many bad experiences with groomers. They were soft , silky and smelled incredibly clean. I also warned them that my older dog has issues with nail trimmings and they were as gentle as could be. First time they actually came back happy from a groomer. :)

We have been using All Star for about a year now and couldn't be happier. John is always very accommodating and takes such good care of our dog when she is at day care. Jeff walks our dog 3 days a week and always leaves detailed notes about their walks, which lets us know that she was well taken care of. We are moving out of Chicago shortly, and will miss All Star!

We love All Star Pet Care! We've been taking our dog there since he was a puppy - he absolutely loves the place. The staff is really great with the dogs - you can tell they really love the dogs. We boarded our dog for a week while we went on vacation - we knew he was in good hands so we didn't worry! I highly recommend All Star to anyone in the neighborhood.
PS: It's close to the train so it's an easy drop-off location. -

I've been a customer of All Star for a couple years now. Our dog loves going there and it's obvious that everyone on the staff there really cares about her. We are lucky to have a place that both meets our style (i.e., minimal crating, lots of play, interaction with other dogs) and has quality people working there.

I brought my dog here once and LOVE the dog web cam! I also like the idea that my dog is not crated the whole time she's there. Instead, she's able to run around and play with the other dogs. Of course, they had staff in the play area to make sure the dogs were safe. Our dog tends to be more quiet and relaxed, and there was another side behind the front desk for her to sit and watch the other dogs play. it was perfect! I would bring my dog here again, but they are so full that they are only taking dogs that come in on a regular schedule right now (but no harm checking of course!).

So, my dog Cassius comes to work with me every day, often vacations with me and is rarely alone. To say that I was concerned about boarding him for 2 weeks would be an understatement. I knew Jack from the dog park and always appreciated his style and attentiveness with his clients' dogs. When I heard that he had opened his own boarding and day care facility, I decided we would check it out. I was immediately impressed by the cleanliness, set up and professionalism of the place. And Cassius was immediately impressed by the bouncy balls. The day that I was leaving, we swung by All Star in the morning to drop off his food and he was so excited he almost jumped out of the car. This was a good sign. What really put me at ease, though was opening an email from Jack the first morning of my trip - letting me know that Cassius was doing just fine and was sharing Jack's bed with him. Over the course of the next 12 days, Jack sent me email updates, pictures and even video footage of a very serious tug-of-war with another boarder. Cassius was on vacation too. I couldn't be more pleased with my All Star experience and can highly recommend Jack and his staff to anyone looking for a safe, clean and fun place for their best friend to stay and play.
