I used All Star for a two part move from Astoria to Park Slope and then to Prospect Heights. They were even able to store my stuff for a month! All Star made a crazy multi-part move fairly painless and Richard was professional ans courteous through the entire move. The only complaints are that they didn't confirm before one of the pickup days until the morning of the move (which made me a little anxious). Also one of their movers broke something and clearly knew he did it and pretended he didn't. To their credit, when we submitted a complaint, they were ready to compensate us. We didn't end up asking for any compensation, but due to the professionalism and courteousness of the management I'm going to give them five stars. I look forward to using them again in the future.

Not as cheap as man with a van, but more professional, and very reliable.

This testimonial is long overdue.  Last August during Hurricane Irene we were scheduled to move.  Conveniently, the center of the storm was forecast to hit on Sunday of that final weekend, which is exactly when we had an appt with another company to do our move from Manhattan to Brooklyn.  As the media played up the potential severity of the storm and the weather reports were looking grimmer and grimmer, I panicked and did everything in my power to move our appt up to Saturday.  Nope.  Can't do it.  Not possible.  Are you crazy??  A hurricane is coming!  I was freaking out.

As luck would have it, someone from another company whom I can't remember referred me to Richard, who is the owner of All Star.  She said, "If anyone can help you out, it's probably him."  Well, she was right.  Richard was honest with me and made it clear he couldn't promise anything, but would do his best to get a crew together who might be willing to brave the impending storm and "get 'er done."  He delivered on that promise.  His estimate was fair, accurate and he stood by his word.  An honest and trustworthy man.

The crew showed up early on Sat morning and proceeded to bang out the job with superhuman strength and a surgeon's precision.  This was our first experience with bulk movers and I have to say, I was completely flabbergasted by these guys.  Not only were they herculean, negotiating loads I never imagined anyone would be crazy enough to attempt, but they worked quickly, thoughtfully and with care.  They were like a well-oiled machine, highly organized and efficient.  I'm a bit hard pressed to remember the actual timing at this point, but I think the entire process took about 4 or 4.5 hours to move a 2BR apt in the West Village to Park Slope.  In the rain!  NONE of our stuff was lost, damaged or compromised in any way.  Those guys were total ninjas and very nice, too.  Complete professionals from start to finish.

Admittedly, I was nervous they were going to expect and demand some insane tip per person and bleed us dry, but they didn't.  I gave them a healthy tip and thanked them profusely, which they were very appreciative of and gracious about.  I would wholeheartedly recommend using All Star without reservation.  Richard and his team are class acts and run a great business.  Thanks again, guys!

We've used All-Star twice, once in 2008 to move into a 5th-floor walk-up and again in April 2012 to move out.  They are fast, punctual, professional and courteous.  Most recently Joshua was the crew leader and he took excellent care of our belongs during the move.  I don't know if you can make requests, but if you can, ask for Joshua.  Rich, Mike and Louis were also on the crew-all top-notch folks.  We also recommended All-Star to a friend in 2009 when the company they had scheduled never showed up.  All-Star came through for our friends at the last minute and saved their bacon.  Don't bother calling anyone else.

Here's the thank you I wrote to them:

All Stars previously moved me from my apt to storage and from storage to a new apt.  I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for such a great experience with my move. I was given your info through my brothers who spoke very highly of you and you guys did not let me down.
You don't have any hidden costs, your moving teams are kind, work well, efficient, your customer service reps are up front about all things, prices are great and I really can not thank you enough for a stress-free experience.
I wish I could remember everyone's name but here are the one's I do remember: Thank you Chris, Rich, & Keith.
I will definitely use you again and recommend you to anyone who needs movers.

Moving for most people is a defining moment of mental and physical fortitude. Many choose to rent a truck, seek assistance from family and friends and use pizza and beer as currency. Hours later, some relationships are strained because of the long hours, inability to transport heavy items through narrow doorways and quick fatigue (many of us are out of shape). In previous moves, it was the bane of my existence, whether it was for moving a friend, a family member or myself.

Time Out New York listed this vendor as the most efficient out of the 4 suggested NYC moving companies [http://newyork.timeout.... I had their undivided attention.

I called a handful of moving companies and did my comparison shopping. Although I got a few quotes (which were cheaper), I was sold by the estimator (Nick) would came on site to see everything (no obligation to accept the bid). This was to avoid any discrepancies on the final bill. We agreed to a flat rate plus and hourly rate for packing the kitchen.

On the scheduled moving day, the guys came in a truck, scouted my apartment and went to work. My movers were Tim (foreman), Clive and Carlos.

All Star Movers' tagline should be "we are the silent sherpas". These guys handled a 2 bedroom move... from a 2 floor walkup in the Bronx, moving to a 5 floor walkup in Manhattan. These dudes were serious when they carried my stuff up the 5 flights. Mind you, the only thing I could compare them to are the porters who run up and down Machu Picchu (Peru) with the tourist bags (ie 3x their body weight) on their backs. These guys were impressive.

I was also impressed with the packing skills of the wardrobes boxes (I believe 25 boxes are included) and the kitchen. As my wife unpacked, she noted that the plates, cups, utensils, etc were securely packed and organized; this made it easier for us.

One problem I will note was that I was told that to save money (man per hour and travel time) that I should get three guys in the Bronx. In Manhattan, if there were guys (on other jobs available) they would assist the Manhattan gratis to expedite the move. Unfortunately this did not happen. I almost felt bad for the movers, but these guys never complained one peep or grimaced (a lot of sweat, though). One of them would sing and the other two would make jokes. Lunch and drink breaks were kept to a minimum (this was by their choice, not by my orders). The movers wanted to finish the job as efficiently as possible. I know that if I were in an elevator building (or less stairs) the move would have been completed quickly (I have a lot of stuff).

There was no damage on my furniture and other stuff upon final inspection so I am very happy with their service.

I paid a premium for All Star Movers but overall they were an excellent choice. You get what what you paid for. I highly recommend and will summon them again, when it's time to move out. *groan*

    Thank you All Star Movers!

I hired these guys after reading about them on http://MovingScam.com (which, contrary to the name, is a site about *avoiding* moving scams).  Not only did their website provide plenty of positive testimonials, but they put all of their license numbers right there for you to locate, so that should you want to, you can look up their pristine track record.

Everyone I talked to on the phone was great. They were so informative, and were not pushy at all. The day of the move, they arrived on time and the three guys - who were all polite and personable - got right to work, loading up boxes and carefully, carefully wrapping every piece of furniture in blankets and securing them with tape.  They even emptied my hanging clothes from the closets and transported them in "free rental" closet boxes. And my TV - the thing I was most worried about - arrived in perfect shape.

They made it to my new apartment before I did, and while they finished a little late, the fact that they were so kind, placed all my furniture and boxes in the appropriate places, and basically made my moving day a breeze, I didn't mind the extra money I had to pay.  I even added more to each man's tip - that's how pleased I was.

All Star is highly, highly recommended.

These guys are fantastic: the movers, the owners, and the rest of the staff.  I had to make a quick move (like within 3 days), and they were ready and available to help me.  I think they're only on an hourly rate and probably more on the expensive side ($145 per hour), but it was totally worth it.

They put up with my last minute changes and when the movers got here, they were awesome.  They packed the things I hadn't packed yet and was planning to take myself to the new apartment, and they even helped me with some handyman things at the new place.

    I highly recommend them.

These guys rocked!   My $1000 (with tip) felt like a million.

I picked them because of their solid reputation and insurance, even though they are on the pricier end of the scale.

I moved a 1 BR w/ alcove that was jam-packed with stuff into a 2.5 BR, both on the 3rd floor, about 5 blocks apart.   I really wanted to be completely packed, and I was nowhere near that.  They rocked it with their wardrobe boxes, and I think the only casualty was a tiny suction   cup and a box (just the box was damaged, not the contents).  They arrived early and got to work immediately!

3 guys moved my chaos (including a fridge) in about 5 hours.   They worked like horses and carried about the weight of a horse on their backs, well, except the fridge.  That they all helped with.  :)

Fortunately a cap was set and even though the move took a few hours longer than expected, my wallet didn't suffer - so I tipped well (I think).

I am definitely hiring a moving company (if I can) next time I have to move, and I'll most likely hire them again.    THANK YOU ALL STAR!

We have used All Star twice now and have been very satisfied every time.  Tom answers the phone and does a great job of explaining the services and trying to identify what your needs are.

Two years ago they moved our entire apartment from Williamsburg to Park Slope.  3 guys did it in about 3 hours and we had a lot of stuff.  Most of it was packed already, but they were very efficient in helping out with the rest.

If you think you are going to move apartments in NYC for under $1000.00 you should probably try it yourself, rent a vehicle and pray your friends will work for pizza and beer.

If not, I would call All Star and talk with them about your move.  They are very reliable and experienced.

They run a tight, friendly and hardworking crew.  We had no damages, no hassles and everything arrived perfectly.

You pay a minimum of three hours so factor that into your estimate.  But all of there services are standard and comparable with other moving companies.  All is full explained from the get go.

The movers were really nice, friendly people. Who explained the process and listened to your needs.

I just used them again to move me out of an office space and into a more traditional storage.

2 guys did about a 5x8 (size space) worth of stuff and did it in about 2 hours. They were incredibly fast and meticulous.

Great job Tom, Louie and Ash.

I would go with All Star in a heartbeat.

My wife & I recently left NYC for Montclair, NJ. Of all the logistics of the move I lost the most sleep over the movers, given all of the horror stories I had heard about NYC movers. We got quotes from 3 different movers and Allstars was identical to one of the other companies, so we felt the price was fair. We were visited at home to get a Guaranteed Binding Estimate (you must get this) and to determine our exact needs. Nick, Tom & Brian in their office took good care of us.

On the day of the move the 5 men we were promised showed up earlier than expected(!) and began to work like dogs for 4 straight hours. Derrick (sp?) and his crew were good guys. They sherpa-ed heavy boxes on their backs with moving straps. They provided 20 massive wardrobe boxes at no charge. These not only fit our clothes, but chairs, tables and ottomans too! All of our other furniture was carefully blanketed and Clive packed the truck with geometric expertise. Day 1 was was flawless and pain free.

Everything we owned sat on Allstar's truck in their secure yard for 2 nights before it was delivered 2  mornings later. There was no charge for the storage, nor did they charge us to rent a truck to make up for ours being out of commission.

Day 2 of the move, Derrick, Clive and Tim showed up earlier than I expected again (even called to say they were running late!?). In four hours, the truck was emptied. There was nary a scuff on the walls, nothing was broken and items were reassembled. The guys even made two attempts to get our box spring up the narrow staircase. At one point I witnessed Clive crawling backwards down stairs with a massive wardrobe box on his back, so as not to bump our walls. Just first class from start to finish. A job extremely well done.

Needless to say, I was thrilled by the excellent work Allstar did for us. They shattered every negative stereotype I've heard about NYC movers. Fantastic and highly recommended.

All Star moved me locally. They called to confirm ahead of time, called when they were going to be ten minutes late, showed up about 15 minutes late, and had me out within about an hour and a half. Four men came, all extremely friendly and all extremely professional. The foreman provided full information about insurance and we knew rates ahead of time. They took great care with wrapping and moving my items, and getting them into the storage unit. They even gave me a lift to the storage unit. My experience with All Star was outstanding. Customer service-great. Movers-great. As unstressful as a move can be. Go with All Star!!! Bring checkbook--they don't take credit cards.

Fantastic moving company. The day before our move (on 06/19) they called to confirm the time and I said "I'm looking forward to moving" ... quickly realizing how silly that sounded. But, the truth is that with this company you can say that and mean it. From the first phone-call, to the no-commitment, 100% accurate moving quote (also done by Nick in our case), to the move itself ... all the people we dealt with were not only professional but extremely nice.

We paid for a full pack and move for a two bedroom apartment. This meant that they packed *everything*:  we did not lift a finger! Nick said it would take 3.5 hours to pack and load up the truck, with 5-6 people working, and that's exactly what happened. All the packers/movers (Carlos, Andy, Patrick, Hurt, Clive ... sorry if I misspelled or missed someone) were extremely careful. They asked me where and how I wanted everything packed and definitely did not make me feel like I was in the way or that they would rather be doing something else. This is their job and they do it well.

Unload at the new apartment was quick and efficient. Any furniture that was taken apart was put back together and placed where requested. We're still unpacking, but as of now we have not noticed anything broken or lost. In fact, they were so thorough in packing that we laugh at some surprising items. For example, they packed our ice trays ... ice and a!l. Same for a little bowl of baking soda that we kept in in our old fridge: both bowl and baking soda ended up in our new fridge!

So all in all, I highly recommend this company. Moving is stressful enough without having to deal with scams and shady companies. PIck these guys and you won't be sorry.

Finding movers in an extremely nerve-wracking experience. I got a lot of personal recommendations, and received quotes spanning a wide range of costs. Ultimately, I chose All-Star based on their reputation and their quote (which was middle-of-the-road). Unlike some other companies, they are not "flat rate" but rather charge for exactly the time they work. This concerned me, but a colleague who had used me told me not to be worried, and that they worked fast.

The job was supposed to begin at 8 a.m., and they arrived around 7:45. The foreman introduced himself, went over the paperwork, and examined what needed to be moved. They began work promptly at 8 a.m. They had everything loaded (I guess I didn't realize how many "odds and ends" I had -- they did a great job protecting everything and loading into the many wardrobe boxes they supplied) by 9:45 and were at my new apartment, 30 miles away in the suburbs by 10:45. I had gone to buy Gatorade and water and offered it to them, but they insisted that they finish work first. Everything was unloaded, and the job was done, by 11:30 -- half an hour less than they had estimated on the phone!

These guys were great. They knew exactly what they were doing, and how to do it efficiently. They were professional and punctual, and take a lot of stress out of my moving experience. I would highly recommend them.

These guys are awesome. Everyone I came into contact with from this company was extremely professional, and I felt like I was in good hands the entire time. There was absolutely no sketchiness about this company. I was given an estimate of three hours (plus an hour of transportation) with three movers at $600, which was given to me in-person at my apartment by a guy (Nick) who explained exactly what the cost was for. The day of the move, the three moving guys were right on time and they moved QUICKLY, getting me out of my old 5th floor studio walk-up with steep stairs and into my new 3rd floor studio walk-up in just two hours, saving me $145. They even helped me take out my extremely heavy air conditioning unit from the window. Only two very cheap picture frames were broken, and that was my fault because I packed them improperly. They were very careful to wrap up and pad all of my furniture to make sure nothing would happen to it.

I would recommend this company to anybody who wants professional help with their move.

Overall the move went quickly and smoothly.  Only two issues came up, and the way All Star resolved them both just demonstrated how professional and customer-oriented their business is.  The first was a minor charge that appeared on the final bill that was never mentioned to me during the initial quote--as soon as I told them the fee had not been mentioned when I booked the job, they waived it.  The second was my desk suffered some damage during the move--even though I had not purchased All Star's insurance policy, they payed (out of their pocket) for a carpenter to come out to my place twice to repair the desk, all at no charge to me.  In this day, that kind of concern for customer satisfaction is almost unheard of, and deserve a round of applause.

I called All Star moving after seeing the reviews on Yelp and after calling several other moving companies at 4p on the Friday before Labor Day weekend for a Saturday morning move.  I was estatic that they could even do it with that little notice let alone that they did such a great job!  The three movers were exactly on time at my storage place in Brooklyn.  They loaded up my 10x10 storage space, drove to the city and moved all of my belongings safely into my apartment in three hours.  The guys were VERY nice and conscientious and I would use them again and recommend them to anyone!

just hired All Star to pack and move us from Greenpoint to LIC.  First, the positives: the movers were all professional, hardworking, experienced, responsive, affable people, and they did a great job.  Everything was packed securely, and moved in to the new building prior to the cut off.   If money is no object, I would definitely recommend them.
The only real downside, and it's a big one, is that their actual cost was 35% higher than the estimate.  We went with All Star over another recommended mover offering a guaranteed price because of assurances from their "estimator" that, aided by his vast experience, the estimates very rarely fluctuate more than +/- 10%.  Hoping to come in under the estimate, we packed several things, and moved certain valuable objects, ourselves.  Also on their advice we bought garbage bags for bedding to save packing costs.  We moved from a ground floor duplex into a building with a dedicated large service elevator.  No traffic, parking on both ends, no issues.
I can only think that the reason All Star exceeded their estimate by over $1K is that they were lowballing us to get the business. Part of the reason is also undoubtedly overkill.  Every little item, from batteries, to pens to plastic spice containers, was wrapped in enormous swathes of paper and surrounded by more balled paper.  Bags were boxed and filled with paper. I feel like a forest was felled for this effort, and, while I appreciate the attention to detail, I think some common sense judgments must be made as to what items must be protected and what can be thrown in together without as much padding.
I'd probably be more upset if something valuable had been harmed but, as is, I feel a little hoodwinked for not asking for a guaranteed price or going with a company offering us one.

These guys are awesome!  We used them to move from Manhattan to Chicago and they were fabulous.  Everyone we dealt with from Nick, the estimator, to the guys I talked to on the phone when I had questions, and especially the guys who actually did all of the moving, were really great.  They are all very professional, but still friendly and funny.  We had a ton of heavy stuff (lots of books), that they moved really easily, and they also packed up our entire kitchen with a ton of care so nothing fragile came close to getting broken. They also gave us a much better rate than the other companies we got quotes from (including United van lines) because they have smaller trucks and won't make you pay for smaller shuttle truck transfers to/from tractor trailers if you do a long distance move.  Check out their reviews on http://movingscam.com also.  Highly recommended!

My daughter was moving from Philadelphia to New York City.  I found All Star Moving and Storage on the internet along with many others.  After contacting several I decided to go with this company after they assured me on several occasions that these costs were very close to what was to be expected. The woman I dealt with there named Monica assured me that there was nothing in fine print that I was not aware of etc. I did my due diligence regarding this move.  The day of moving was horrendous.  First of all she assured me that we could do the move in one day, pick up in Philadelphia in the am and deliver to NYC in the pm since my husband was flying there to help her move.  The day before he left I got a call from the movers saying they couldn't do this and had to pick up the day before and deliver the next day. This is of course caused us to have to change plans fares etc.  The day of the move they came and when they told us what the bill was going to be it was double what I had been told.  DOUBLE!  after having gone over every possiblity with Monica I was shocked (but not surprised as I have heard movers are notorious for this) and of course there was all of the ridiculous explanations about stairs and not elevators and chairs needing boxes and on and on.  The owner was so rude on the phone several times that I really didn't know what to do except he had the furniture at this point and I didn't want to lose that as well.  I wouldn't use this company again if I had to drive it myself. They are not honest about their services and fees. I would have rather they told me what it might be on the front end rather than lying to me like this.

My son just used All Star Moving (New York City) to move from Washington DC to NYC. They were EXCELLENT. They quoted a reasonable price, stuck to it, were helpful on the phone before the move, arrived on time, worked extremely hard in extreme heat, maintained their good humor throughout the long day of the move, were very careful with all of his possessions, and were very helpful in setting up the furniture. We would recommend them HIGHLY.

I used All Star on May 15 to move my one bedroom from Kew Gardens to Park Slope. The experience started off well with the home estimate with Nick. Since we were moving mid-month, Nick trimmed some money off of the estimate, so they came in under the other estimate i received. I booked the move after reviewing them on Yelp and seeing that they had great reviews and were fully insured. The movers showed up on time the day of the move (maybe a few minutes early?) and got to work. They wrapped everything and were understanding about my wishes that no one enter the bathroom as it held two scared kitties. Keith, Steve and Jose (and one more guy who worked down in the truck organizing and taping all that was brought down, sorry guy, I don't remember your name!) worked their butts off, especially hauling my heavy furniture up two flights to the third floor. Not a scratch or a nick on anything. The guys were professional and friendly. Next time we move we will definately be calling All Star. The piece of mind is worth the money.
