I don't understand what everyone was talking about in the posts below me. I walked into All She Wrote on a whim, just looking for a cute notebook or some paper to write letters to my military boyfriend.
I walked in and one associate was with a customer so I started browsing. Maybe 3 minutes later I walked by the cash wrap and the associate asked me how I was doing and what she could help me with. I told her what I was looking for and she pointed out the cutest Lilly Pulitzer notebook. Exactly what I was looking for! The pages aren't as cute as I'd like, but all the same (I couldn't look inside because it was wrapped).
I thanked the associate and walked around more. Then not even 2 minutes later the associate who was helping the customer when I walked in CAME UP TO ME and asked me if I needed help. I asked if the display of agendas were the only ones they had and she mentioned they should be receiving more in within the next few weeks. PLUS! She asked if I wanted to be put on their email list so they would notify me!! Nothing short of AMAZING customer service from 2 of their associates.
Being in the retail industry myself, sometimes when you come into a store with a scowl or a look of no interests, then yeah, don't expect to get a warm welcome everywhere! And if you're not getting the service, SPEAK UP! Small shops like All She Wrote have a limited staff, so they can't be in two places at once! Overall, I love, love, LOVED All She Wrote. Cute shop, all sorts of cards, invites, save the dates, thank yous, and just every day cutesy stuff.
Wow, hilarious. I thought it was just me at first but it looks like a lot of people get the same treatment from this store! So many reviews with the same message! Doesnt anyone at this store know about Yelp?
I had some time before an appointment and thought this would be a good place to look for stationary and Save the Date cards. I walked in and a girl near the door said hello but then promptly busied herself at the desk with a person on the phone. Which didnt bother me as that has happened to me often when I worked retail. But what did bother me was another woman came out of the back, saw me, said nothing and went back out of sight. (I was standing by the invitation books too trying to catch her eye). 30 seconds later a typical Armitage Ave Babe (you know the type, super skinny, blonde mom type, dressed expensively but conservatively?) walked in. Not 10 seconds later the other shopgirl comes back out and immediately goes up to her asking if she needs help.
They of course begin this giggle session where they learn they are both teachers and -Omigawd can you believe how great that is to have all this time off to SHOP and I love the summer- yaddayaddayadda. Oh come on! I was in this store for FIFTEEN MINUTES. Are you trying to tell me you couldnt have at least asked me if I was doing OK or something?
I didnt stick around to learn the rest of their life stories. Hope Trixie-Mom bought a lot from you guys because since I am getting married you all could have had quite a good amount of business with me. Oh well.
I have to agree with all of the other reviewers about the service I received -- completely awful! I went to All She Wrote on two separate occasions to purchase Save the Date cards and wedding invitations, and on both occasions I walked out empty-handed.
The salesgirls barely made eye contact either trip -- when I told one what I was looking for, she just gestured to the huge wall of sample books and told me to ''take a look." There was someone already sitting at their (small) work table by the invitation books, so I had to stand and hold my bag and a 30 lb. book while trying to simultaneously flip the pages. After 30 minutes of this I got frustrated and we left. My second experience was similar.
All She Wrote has cute merchandise in their store, but 98% of it can be found online for the same prices (if not better). It's too bad that their salesgirls are rude, because it seems like they've lost a lot of business because of it. They certainly lost mine.
I'm getting married. And in order to get married one needs invitations. I spent hours and hours and hours searching for the perfect invitation. I thought I found it at All She Wrote, however it ended up being a no-go. My fiance and I were not greeted when we walked in. We had to hunt down a salesperson to direct us to the invitation books. She then walked away, leaving us alone with books upon books of invitations. I finally fell in love with an invitation. When the salesperson came back to help us, she tells me that the colors of the sample are the colors in all of the invitations and no custom colors can be ordered. It would have been nice to know that before I got attached to the invitation. While she did call me later that day and offer to look through the books to find similarly priced invitations, I didn't take her up on the offer because out of the four books we looked at, there was only one we liked, and at $600 for 25 invitations and response cards, was ridiculously overpriced. Besides the invitations, the store itself is adorable. If I was looking for simple stationary, this would be it, but it's not the place for wedding invitations. Not enough service and way overpriced.
I wanted to purchase an item on 11-14-09 marked $74.00. From the back room the brought the box marked $174.00. They said store owner marked it wrong. They would have to check with her....hmmm...priced wrong I get it for what it's marked. NOPE!!!!!!! The store owner refused to sell it to me for the price SHE had marked it. I will no longer step foot near that store! Watch it...I think what she did to me is illegal...Her error she should have negotiated the item at cost. HER BAD not mine. So watch it when you go in there expecting to buy something...They do magic tricks.
Have you noticed a trend in these reviews?
I, too, have entered this store intending to blow a wad of cash on frumpy stationery. I, too, was rebuffed by these shop harpies, who vacillated between treating me like I was imaginary and treating me like I was leaving a trail of slime in my wake.
I chose to spend my money elsewhere.
Oh, I love the stuff in here! I could have dropped a fortune, and got several ideas for holiday gifts in a single 5-minute visit.
I didn't buy anything so I can't comment on the service, but since I was just browsing I kind of wanted to be left alone anyway.
This place will definitely be a stop for me when I'm in the neighborhood, and perhaps even a destination if I am looking for something special, such as personalized baby gifts.
Lots of wonderful stationery and special items with lovely presentation. The store exudes moderate luxury and Lincoln Park-ness. However, the service is just awful. While I was shopping, the two girls who worked there just sat on the couch and gossiped the entire time. When I looked over, they didn't even say "hi." While my items were being rung up, the girl kept talking to others and did not make eye contact with me.
I spent a good deal of money on Crane items, but I will be shopping online from now on. This store isn't so special as to provide items and services you can't find online.
The worst customer service ever, their sales section is somewhat okay, and their greeting cards, stationery, and all the other Lily stuff doesn't make this one unique store - you can find the same collection elsewhere. Too stuffy, and they should find some kind of a focus or a theme.
This is a great little stationery store - my only complaint is that it's a little disorganized and cramped, and there's a pretty long turnaround time for special-order invitations. Their general selection is a bit limited as well, but what they have is high quality (Crane's, Kate Spade) and really cute!
All I have to say is this place has super cute stuff. Items to monogram, cute stationary, great gift items.
BUT
The service sucks. How? Um, the two ladies that were in there didn't so much as BUDGE while I was in there today. Not a single word out of either of their mouths. Not even a single "hello". Seriously awful.
With less than a month to my wedding, I needed to order invitations for my bridesmaid tea. I came here to find the perfect invitations and then have them printed. The prices are really reasonable for printing! I much rather pay someone that deal with the headache of trying to print using my printer.
The staff was super helpful. My invitations came out looking beautiful. Thank you!!

I purchased some fantastic Kate Spade stationary from this fantastic little shop. I prefer the… Read more »
We've been coming here since they first opened their doors (and you'll see our birth announcement of Josie and Emma on the bulletin board samples...look for it!).
They do such a nice job helping you find the perfect paper and design, and their prices and contacts in the industry put them head and shoulders above their local competition (Marvelous Party, jane weber ink, etc.).
They also have great odds and ends, off the rack cards and gifts, and other trendy little things that even I like browsing through (Jacky, like most women, can spend an hour in there).
Best of all -- it's not intimidating to guys, and they make the process very easy, and help you find exactly what you're looking for without being...how do I say this? Too emasculating. There. I said it.
For stationery and other cards and personalized needs: All She Wrote.
Oh Yelp, when will we get 1/2 stars? I would have given this place 5 stars but...see cons....
Pros: I have a serious paper fetish so I was VERY excited to check this place out. This store carries a wonderful variety of stationary and note cards; you really don't need to shop any where else, all occasions and tastes are covered. I'm assuming they do custom work? Wouldn't know...see below...
Cons: The service. Wow. The only way it could have been worse is if the 2 woman working today had walked out when we walked in. Actually, it wouldn't have made a difference. We would have gotten more attention from a dead hamster. The woman working the register continued to ignore us while we were waiting to pay, making NO eye contact when she eventually wrapped up what she was doing on the computer (we were ready to walk out). The only thing out of her mouth was the total, and yippee, still no eye contact. So much for mid-western hospitality - it wasn't some petulant teen working there either, this woman is certainly old enough to know better.
Won't be back and certainly can't recommend.
This store has the best selection of custom paper and invitations that I have found in the city-and I am REALLY picky about paper
I went there with my mom for wedding invitations and the service was not the best. BUT...I have good taste and I didn't need much help, so in the end it was an okay experience
they have great follow through and in the end, I am always happy with the end result
they also have good gifts, for hostesses, babies, grads, mothers day, etc.
Fabulous paperie, with great gift items as well. Find a hostess gift for your weekend in Lake Geneva or on the Cape, a little something for your new nephew and invitations for your next cocktail party all in one stop.
Preprinted cards and custom printing available.
I used them for my save the dates - quick, efficient service.
All She Wrote is such a cute place to get unique stationery. It has personalization options. I would say that Papersource is a little bit more inventive and less kitschy, but All She Wrote is a bit cheaper and you can find similar items.
I love nice stationary and am willing to spend money on it. I visited All She Wrote on a weekday afternoon looking to buy some nice new personalized stationary and thank you cards. I walked in and the sales associate looked directly at (or through?) me and didn't even say hello, much less 'may I help you'. I looked around the shop a while, and they do carry some nice products. However, due to the rude and nonexistent customer service I decided to not purchase anything and took my business to another stationary shop in Wicker Park. The funny thing is, as I was leaving-another woman walked into the store and the sales associate jumped up and said hello and asked the woman if she could help her find anything. The woman said no, that she wasn't looking for any stationary and that she just wanted to know where Lori's Shoes was located. I thought it was hilarious that I was actually interested in spending quite a bit of money on stationary and I received not as much as an acknowledgement, and this woman didn't want to buy anything and she got all of the attention. I won't be back and am encouraging everyone else to purchase cards and stationary elsewhere. There are so many other cute shops selling the same products in the Lincoln Park area. There's no need to patronize a business with rude, standoffish sales associates.
They really do have absolutely beautiful paper and invites in this store. The staff is super friendly and although I've yet to purchase anything here I've come close many times. It's also a great place to purchase little gifts (especially this holiday season)- I'm always on the lookout for cute picture frames and this store has plenty of them!
I have to agree with what everyone else is saying - I love this store and could spend serious money in here if I was independently wealthy, however the service is awful. The girls working the counter ignore your presence, and even when you make a purchase they are downright snooty. I'm sorry, but no - I'm giving you my money, you could at least be friendly. It makes me not want to go back here.
I walked in to check out All She Wrote and an hour later I walked out- what a cute store! It has tons of stationary, invitations, cards, picture frames, etc, and is adorable. Such creative items that make great gifts, and it's just fun to browse in this store.
How much of a ridiculous girl am I? I try to think of events for which I can use paper invitations or menus just so I can go to places like this and Paper Source. Fun, extensive selection of fancy cards and paper, and nice staff. A bit cramped but that's only because they stuff a bunch of dog and baby stuff in amidst the paper products.
I found the most perfect preppy notecards here which I had personalized for a friend's birthday. They are very helpful. The sales clerk helped me pick out a font to use and she knew what I meant when I said "I need something preppy". Also, they have a wonderful selection of cards and invitations.
We're trying to find invitations in Chicago for our wedding (wait, i thought you were married already?) in Philly. The staff was really friendly & was able to direct us to books with the particular style we were looking for. They had a nice selection of other paper goods too. Overall, a great little paper shop that fits in perfectly with the rest of the neighborhood.
I've bought invitations here on two occasions. They have a large selection of original and beautiful invitations, stationary, you name it. The prices are standard for what you are getting and the neighborhood.
This store does have really super cute stuff and a good selection. The problem: the service. I've been in this shop several times and have yet to have a good customer service experience. My print order was a huge inconvenience to the sales woman, and I've had to wait forever to be rung up at the register because the woman behind the counter has been too busy on the computer. No greetings here, no hellos, no thank-yous, nothing. Very very snobby. I will take my business down the street to Paper Source or any of the other cute stationery shops in town. Sure the stuff is 4-star worthy, but the service deserves zero.
beautiful custom papers and invites. love their selection and the service is the best. a premier paperie in chicago!
i don't think there is a stationery store in chicago that i have not been in and this one is no exception. it's very cute with lots of invitations. paper boy has more stationery supplies and this place has more invitations for weddings, parties, etc. the only reason i am not giving it 5 stats is because it's a wee bit cramped.
