The address that Yelp has up there is a little confusing, because I guess that's where their office is?
The location of the actual place is:
1026 Lotus Rd.
Lotus, CA 95651

It's about an hour away from Davis.

Anyhow, this company is really great!

First off, planning and scheduling this trip was really easy. We weren't exactly sure what we're doing, but a friend gave us the number to AO and the person on the phone was very helpful when booking us.

Finding this place isn't too difficult, but it took us a few tries because we kept turning into the wrong place. This place is to the right of The River Store.

Once there, we registered and everything went very smoothly. All of the staff members were really friendly and the orientation was thorough.

Our guide, Analisa, was awesome. She made us feel very safe and have a lot of fun as well. She was very down to earth, and not only guided us down the river, but talked about some of the ecology of the river and she even told jokes and riddles haha.

We did the South Fork run that goes up to class 3. It starts off more tame with bouts of class 2's in the first half and the second half after lunch is much more fun and thrilling. Lunch was really good too. There were appetizers like chips and salsa and fruit while the guides prepared the sandwich makings. There was a lot of variety too, including all kinds of veggies, hummus, avocado, etc. which was really nice.

Once again, the second half of the trip was a lot of fun where we actually hit some class 3's. Next time we'll go for Middle Fork, where they have class 4's and we'll go with this company :).

Recommendations: Wear shoes that you may not want afterwards if you're going to wear sneakers and no flip flops! And bring and reapply sunblock! You'll be in the sun for 5 hours.

My friend and I took a 2 day rafting trip down the Middle Fork of the American River.  Keeping this short and sweet.  Awesome/Fun/Professional guides who definitely knew what they were doing.  Great food, great camp site, awesome rapids.  overall great trip.

Definitely planning my next rafting trip with AOR!

We had a great one-day trip on the Middle Fork of the American River with an energetic and effective guide named Beth.  As lead boat, we got to watch two other rafts in the party come down all the rapids and imagine what kinds of faces we'd made only moments before!  The trip was punctuated by a scenic but slippery hike up to a little waterfall and the nice sandwich lunch.  Rafters must have been particularly game on this trip, because several played "the cookie game," which involved sticking an Oreo to your forehead with jelly and maneuvering it into your mouth.

Our gear was modern and comfortable.  Boat assignments, gear packing and the safety information was all well-organized.  At the end of the trip, we got a nice full color brochure on all of the rivers that AO runs in California.  The AO website is also very informative and had GREAT directions to our meet-up spot.

Except for my sore back, no complaints at all from this trip.  I think we'll definitely be rafting with AO again, especially since we scored the web special and saved $40 on this trip.  Hooray for All Outdoors!

I'm not sure what I'm reviewing here:

White water rafting, the activity in general?  100% must try for anyone who is able to do it and is looking for a thrill.  It's like a roller-coaster ride, but if the riders don't participate, the coaster derails.

The stretch of Merced River outside Yosemite, near Midpines, CA?  Two thumbs up.  Great flows for late May 2009, making a few extra miles raftable.  Not too cold and terrific views.

All Outdoors California Whitewater Rafting as a business?  5/5 Yelp stars.  A great website that has a lot of information so you can easily pick what trip destination you want.  Also made it easier to find a good place to stay near our rafting point.  Really easy to book reservations and the knowledgeable agents follow-up with you and answer all your questions.  Their cancellation policy is a bit harsh, but I think that has more to do with the limited capacity of this kind of business to handle last-minute changes on the number of boats/guides needed.

The guides were wonderful, using just the right amount of encouragement and motivation to get us down the river safely.  I enjoyed the way they treated us like adults regarding river safety.  I've taken a trip with another company that took hours to explain to you every situation you could possibly come up with on the river and how each and every little thing is important.  Think about it, if you do fall in, you're not going to remember any of it, and you have to trust your guide to do and tell you the right thing at the very moment.

Our guide, Joe, was awesome.  Really knew his way around this specific river, as well as rafting in general.  He was also a really friendly guy to hang out with for a few hours on the river.

The lunch they provided was decent, and they also had snacks in between.

If someone wanted to go rafting out here in CA, I'd recommend All-Outdoor in a heartbeat.  Our trip ended up being about $150 per person, which is steep, but well worth it.

A well-organized outfit with good guides. Three of us went down the merced in one of their smaller rafts - very easy to navigate. The rapids were a little timid due to the late date we went, but there were still a couple of sections that got our hearts pounding.

The gourmet picnic lunch was very pleasant.

I wholeheartedly recommend All-Outdoors!

2 words.

Effin' Awesome!

We did the Class III (beginner to intermediate) at the South Fork American River and it was everything I expected it to be.  The guides were knowledgeable and pleasant, the rapids, plentiful and exciting, and the lunch was fresh and muy deliciouso.

The only thing I thought was really funny (other than our guide Ryan) was what hungry monsters we became.  By the time lunch rolled around, my friends and I were STARVING.  The guides went straight to work in preparing a lovely gourmet feast for about 40 people.  They started off with chips and salsa (with a hidden surprise...CREAM CHEESE!) and it was off the hook!  We straight jumped at those chips and salsa, myself included.  We looked like hungry vultures, ready to pounce at the sight of food.  It was hilarious.  My teeny tiny friend (who eats like a garbage disposal) literally planted herself at the food table and ate everything in sight.  The next course was a fresh fruit salad, laid out all too pretty to eat.  Not for this crew, we pounced on it, of course.  Keep in mind, there are no utensils and there were 40 of us starving people all crowded around a picnic table.  It was a sight, most def.  The last course was a build-your-own-sandwich station complete with 3 different choices of bread (wheat, white, tortilla wrap), condiments (mayo, mustard, dijon mustard, hummus, peanut butter and jam), lunch meats (turkey, salami, tuna salad, roast beef), veggies (lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, onions, bell peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, the works) and 3 different types of cheese.

Needless to say, my belly was pleased :)

Oh, and one more funny thing.  I never knew how uncoordinated my friends and I were.  We kept saying, "damn, those ppl look like they know what they're doing.  Do we look like that??"

Answer?

NO.

Went with AO to the Middle Fork American River twice two years ago. Both trips was awesome, the tunnel chute (class IV) was the highlight of the trip.

I have to admit, my first trip was the best because the level of the water was high and perfect for rafting, according to our river guide. Plus, I got to be in the left-front, where the action is. Because our river guide is on the right -rear of the raft. He do the controlling of the boat and the front would counter control when need be. I was able to do a lot of stuff with the raft. I get to do surfing and get to guide the raft at one point (class II)

If you are planing to go white water rafting this year. Take it with AO ($144). Group discount also apply, if you have a lot of people to go with, I don't know how many people in the party.

AO took our group of four adults (3 experienced, one newbie) down the Middle Fork of the American.

The river was fun--good rapids and beautiful flat sections. The guides were skilled rafters and trip leaders, and overall good people. The lunch was better than we expected--fresh veggies, variety of cheeses and meats, and plenty of snacks.

I've rafted with other places where I felt that peoples' safety was considered less important than folks having a good time and I have seen people hurt on rivers as a result. AO paid good attention to safety without it being a drag on the adventure.

8 thumbs way up!

Just adding my 5 stars to the bunch they already get here. They're really that good. They'll take care of you and teach you the ropes. Our group was just 3 girls, two of us noob -- plus another group of 5 who were also all noobs. We chose to do the middle fork and it was so much fun. The guides will not only show you how to best paddle as a team, but he'll also teach you how to be a guide and read the river. They won't let you do anything stupid (I led our boat into a rock, but he quickly took over. yay). Only one guy fell out in one rapid, but he was sitting in the back where you're more prone to get bounced out. Can't wait to do it again!

A weekend of rapids, drinking, eating, and sexual inuendos.  Need I say more?

7 of us embarked on a 2-day trip on the middle fork of the American River.  Saturday was on the River from 9-6pm, and was filled with rapids, lunch on the river, and some amazing hikes.  Our guide Colin (bless his heart listened to my dirty jokes all day, and still seemed to like us)  was amazing, he made us feel safe, but knew how to have a great time, and let us do some amazing stuff.

We camped by the side of the river (ladies no running water, so I'll let your imagination fill in the rest about restrooms) The guides cooked dinner, while we hung out and drank beer. The food was awesome and the scenery was spectacular.

After a nights sleep under the stars, the guides cooked breakfast and then we were back in the water from 10-4.  2nd day had the most rapids and made for an all around fantastic trip.

We are already looking to do other trips, and would be honored if we could have Colin and subject him to our potty humor for just a few more days....

Noteable inuendo:

Guide: Tighten your life-jacket as much as posssible, they get loose when they are wet.

I would HIGHLY recommend doing a trip through these guys.

They're a family operation with great guides, and have been operating on the river longer than any of the other commercial companies. Doing the middle fork during 2 days in the middle of the week is great for those who like to hike and explore the canyon. The food were top notch and the service was amazing. Overall, it was an educational, adventurous experience.

We just got back from a group trip on the middle fork of the American.  we had the best experience with AO!  If you are thinking about rafting in CA - you best choose AO.

The guides were amazing (and hot!) - Todd, Adam and Eric - you rock!

Two days filled with great friends, rapids, sunshine, hikes, some fishing, frisbee, GREAT food and fabulous company.

We are already planning our trip for next summer on the Tuolumne.
Do the two-day - one day is never enough -  was an amazing experience!

Thanks so much!!!

These guys do a great job!

I went rafting this past weekend on the Merced river and had a blast. Our guide was Anne and she was really sweet. I never doubted her abilities and she confidently guided us down the river.

I would definitely recommend All Outdoors to anyone who is interested in white water rafting Northern Cali.

I've been on at least a dozen rafting trips now, ranging from mellow class III through fairly intense class V waters, and the majority have been with AO. The guides are knowledgeable and have the right balance between careful and fun - they are great at assessing the general skill-level on board and adapting the run accordingly.

We did go on one run in which we were thrown from the raft in the middle of a class IV. Hubby seriously panicked (I thought it was kinda fun!) and they did a great job of retrieving us and getting us back on board quickly and safely.

I am particularly fond of the over-nighters, and AO provides great food they have never once failed to adapt meals to feed the veggie in the house (I always tell them Im a veghead when I make the reservation).

Bestest of all, AO has a frequent rafter program. I get a free river run next time I book - woo hoo!

Unfortunately, hubby isn't so into it anymore, so any rafters in the house, PM me!!

Top notch organization.  Awesome customer service and a really great rafting trip. Can not recommend more highly. These folks were great. A+.

Did the Middle Fork on the American river on 7/18. There were several other outfits on the river that day. Ours was the only group that got out of the river at the first Class IV rapids. All 4 guides in our 4 boats talked us through the rapids and then we got back in the boats and had the ride of our lives.  Emphasized both safety and fun.

Lunch was great: fresh fruits, chips and dip and a sandwich bar.

I will definitely go rafting with this folks again very soon!

For my first whitewater rafting trip, my husband and I decided to go with All Outdoors and we were incredibly happy with our decision!  We did the one-day South Fork (American River) trip and it was a blast!

I did have my moments of panic up at the front of the raft as I tried to pull my weight and help to ensure a safe passage through some of the bigger rapids, but it was a good panic!  I'm sure I had a look of sheer terror on my face, but, I made it through safely and enjoyed the adrenaline rush!

The whole group stopped along the way for lunch that was set up by the guides.  I had worked up quite an appetite and was worried that I would only have cheese and bread to eat since I don't eat cold cuts.  I was wrong.  Tons of fresh veggies, including avocado.  Lots of other snacks, and even cookies for dessert.

During the trip, we were able to jump out of the raft for a dip in the river when the water was calm and we weren't close to any rapids.  That was one of the best parts of the trip since it was about 110 degrees that day!

The guides were clearly very experienced and the customer service from start to finish was flawless!

Passengers who've enjoyed the thrill of riding in car with me (especially when I drove in LA) would say that such an adventure requires courage, a settled stomach, and a "live in the moment because it could end anytime" philosophy to life.

I'm happy to report this perspective was reinforced on the South Fork of the American River during my first whitewater rafting trip ever.

All of my uncoordinated and klutzy skills made for an exciting ride in the calmest of waters. I can really rock the boat! As luck would have it, our guide was very knowledgeable and experienced with disaster-aversion techniques, and successfully pushed me back into the raft at critical moments. And when the whitewater came in and nearly capsized us, he even grabbed my hat as it flew off my head in midair...amazing!

Catastrophe preparedness sets this company apart. Before we left the launch site, we spent a lot of time reviewing an extensive list of things not to do on the river, as well as tips for saving your own life (and the lives of your fellow rafters), should someone fall into it. They also packed a nice lunch with cookies (to prevent paddling fatigue) and stopped at a lovely picnic site with porto-potties...avoiding river contamination is always a good thing, especially if you end up swimming in it.

They also provide wetsuit and splash guard rentals and have a frequent-rafters program with discounts. All in all, this was one of the best death-defying trips I've had the pleasure of surviving to-date...and my friends lived to tell about it, too. Fantastic!

AO Rafting offers some kick ass (literally) whitewater rafting on the American River. Some friends of mine and I took a 2 day rafting trip on the Middle Fork of the American, described as "the perfect step up into more difficult whitewater" and for "experienced rafters and adventurous beginners." This trip has class III and IV rapids, so if you're scared, I highly suggest starting with a II or III run.

As soon as you arrive, they give you safety instructions and then off you go in the bus to the launch site. Once you're in that raft, it's non-stop, with one good, tough rapid after another.

However, adventure does come at a price.

We were coming up to the longest class IV rapid in the trip. For some reason, our guide angled our raft into the rapid at the wrong angle, so the left side of the raft went into the air and everyone (including me) on the right side of the raft got dumped into the river. As I was told later, I was under the water for quite some time. To me, it felt like forever. Luckily, I remembered the safety lecture and tried to position myself like I was sitting in a chair, with my feet angled up. My back hit a rock pretty bad, but at least I surfaced. We finally got pulled out of the water and into another raft. Man, that water was so cold! I ended up limping like a cripple for the next few days because of where the rock hit me, but, oh, it was soo much fun!

The meals provided are really tasty. The guides are friendly, athletic, and have some great stories to tell. At the end of the first day, it was nice have a good meal,  rollout a sleeping bag on the shores of the river and look at the millions of stars overhead.

Whitewater rafting is a great way to bond with your friends or to meet new people. If you have a free weekend during the summer, you should make your reservation with AO Rafting soon!

OMG. This was sooo much fun. I felt like I was 8 again.

My best man organized a trip with All Outdoors Whitewater Rafting for my batchelor's party. Whitewater rafting is something that I've always wanted to do, and AO did not disappoint. We went on the one-day rafting trip at South Fork. The trip starts fairly leisurely so that people can get into the swing of it, and we were worried that it wasn't going to be a dud. However after lunch things really pick up and before long you're paddling your little heart out towards the next rapid, grinning like an idiot.

Our guide was great - cracking jokes, telling stories and completely in control. As I was the lucky guy she made me sit bull in the front of the raft without a paddle where I got drenched at every rapid (much to the amusement of my friends). The highlight of the trip was entering Satan's Cesspool with our eyes closed and then opening them at our guide's command to see us racing into a roaring maw of white-water, spray and fury.

The weather was super warm, so being thrown into the river (thanks boys) or taking a dip is a welcome relief. The scenery is fantastic and I think we only referenced Deliverance about 10 times. We are already thinking about a trip back with AO to do class 4 rapids. See you there!

I have rafted with AO for 3 years now and every time the experience improves.  This year I even organized a private charter for 35 coworkers to the Middle Fork and it was just the perfect trip.  We had some noobs and a boat even wrapped but the guides were so supportive and nice that it became a thrilling excitement (we kept retelling the story weeks after the trip) instead of it being a downer.

Next year definitely Toulumne and when I'm ready to break my ultimate ClassV cherry at Cherry Creek I'd definitely go with AO too!!

This company is top-notch and will definitely book again with these guys! We did the Merced River trip and our experience from there valuable information on the website, to their travel agent (so to speak), and their guides were all superb.

Their website gives you all the information you need to know if you've never been before (what to wear, where to meet, what to expect). Their travel agents call and check up to make sure your set and have questions. Our guides this trip (Joe, Anna-Lisa, and Dan) were all fantastic! Without scaring you they inform you about the dangers that you can encounter and without going into so much detail you forget they tell you basics for your survival. They do this not in an arrogant way either. They are definitely knowledgeable on where to put the boat so we stay out of real danger and do a great job entertaining throughout the trip. I didn't expect much for a lunch but I was surprised with how good it was with fresh vegetables for our sandwiches, fresh fruit, chip's and salsa, and dessert. After the trip they B.S.'d with us for an hour or so after the trip before they had to go back to getting their gear packed away.

If your looking for a great hassle-free rafting experience, THIS IS THE COMPANY you want to book with!

I went this past weekend with some friends and took the South Fork American River trip.  We had so much fun.  The class III rapids were perfect for us whitewater virgins.  Our guide, Tiffany was great and easy going and got us down the river in one piece.  The weather was super hot and dry, so the water felt so nice, though when submerged, it is f*cking cold!  I preferred being in the raft and getting splashed.  :)

I recommend doing this trip for any first timers out there.  Just know that you are going to be sore the next day.  (My ass still hurts)

i saw on their site that they have many 5-star yelp reviews; and i've got to concur that they deserve them.  i went on their trips _twice_ this summer and had so much fun both times.  both times we had the same guide anita.  she's really cool!  i think the guides really make this place extraordinarily good.

the trip is very convenient.  i did the south fork, lower gorge trip both times.  we drove out from the south bay area just a bit past sacramento on the 50 as if we were doing our weekly tahoe commute (if it were winter).  we meet with the staff and our friends around 1100a.  we have a good orientation class and get our gear.  each raft fits up to 10 people.  8 to 10 seems to be ideal.  i'm sure if you have a smaller group, they'll need to lump you in with another group, which could also be fun.

they have a nice, clean bathroom and outdoor showers at their meeting spot.  at lunch, they provide really fresh food.  like, it feels very homey, maybe a little hippie-ish - in a _good_ way.  you just pull over on the side of the river and walk up to a picnic spot.  the guides then all work to cut up vegetables and fruit and lay out ingredients to make sandwiches.  i appreciate that they provide good, quality ingredients for the sandwiches.

on the second part of _this_ trip (which is just one of many they offer), you hit bigger rapids.  photographers from some other company take your pictures at two of the bigger rapids.  you can buy those photos from that company later, but honestly they're a bit expensive.

at the end of the day, you pull the raft out of the water, and your team works to carry it up to the trucks and get a bus ride back to your starting point.  it's really fun and quite a day!  it's a great team-bonding experience because you realise how the team, only if they work together, can generate so much power.

they have this frequent rafter's program or something where (i think) if you raft 5 days, the 6th one is free.  i may have the numbers wrong.  anyway, i've done two now and i can imagine actually someday getting my free day.

I have whitewater rafted a few times in my life, and I have to say, the experience with All Outdoors was absolutely the most exciting!  Since all my friends with whom I went were not beginners, we decided to take the Intermediate package, which took us to the Middle Fork of the American River.  Our guide WAS AWESOME.  He knew we were a bunch of thrill seekers so he guided us through some of the most exciting parts of the rapids.  Get this...this guy skis all winter long (he works at various resorts) and rafts spring through summer (he works for rafting companies during the rest of the year).  He was really entertaining during the slower periods of the river.

As with most other companies, they provide lunch at a rest stop.  That was pretty standard..chips, sandwiches, etc.

But this company is very good.  They're knowledgeable, friendly, and most of all, are dedicated to making your experience FUN.

My second trip down the American River (first time with AOR) and this was just as fun as the first time.  AOR did a fantastic job of accommodating myself and my friends from work.  I was easily able to book the group within a few weeks of the trip and all the details (including receipt) was mailed to me within days.  The directions/recommendations were helpful.  We were on time, so were the guides and crew.  Although we were scared sh*tless we all rolled through the rapids with ease and comfort (well, in hind-sight anyhow).  My coworkers are still talking about it and all want to do it annually.

Kudos to all at AOR.  Great fun, good price.

A group of 12 of us went on the  "1-day Upper Chili Bar trip" on the South Fork of the American River (which qualifies for a discount! :) ).

I hadn't gone rafting in awhile, so couldn't remember the protocol, particularly with the shoes.  They don't accept any flip-flops (they'll give you another pair of shoes if you try) - basically anything with a strap in the back is okay.  Water shoes (we got a pair for less than $10 at target) worked well because I hate wet socks.

Our guide wasn't quite as friendly as our other raft so I was a little disappointed. He couldn't really answer our questions about the river or tell us any stories about the trip, which I would have appreciated. Our guide did say that this wasn't appropriate for kids...

We were pleasantly surprised by lunch. The guides all prepared sandwiches that were surprisingly filling - your plates are your hands and your napkins are your clothes, so while they are ecofriendly, we had to be a little creative with how we made the sandwiches (so they wouldn't get all over the place!).  There are restrooms, but they're in a park so aren't the cleanest.

A word of advice...we thought we were too cool to not have a string around our glasses, but we weren't so cool when one of us fell out and lost their pair of glasses, which cost a few hundred bucks.

Oh, and if you forgot your waterproof camera or didn't want to soak your digital camera, you can go to HotShots and pay $20 for a ditial picture or a bit more for a CD of 6-10 images by some independent photographer.  If you split the price among your group, it's not too bad.

This was my first time rafting and I had a great experience! We took the "1-day Upper Chili Bar trip" on the South Fork of the American River. Our guide, Jesse, and his trainee, Max, were really fun and friendly. During the calm areas of the river, they told us many personal stories about rafting and random historical tidbits about the river. They seemed very knowledgeable of the area.

The lunch was absolutely delicious! Sure, they were only sandwiches, but I was completely blown away by how comprehensive and yummy the meal was! To start off, we had chips and salsa, and fresh-cut fruits (apples and grapes). For the sandwiches, there were 4 different types of bread, plenty of spread (mayo, mustard, PB&J), sundried tomatoes, various pickles and peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, salami, 3 types of cheese, avocado, and roast beef and turkey meat. And to wrap it all up, they had yummy cookies for dessert. I was stuffed! My life vest was definitely tighter after lunch!

UPDATE: A week after our trip, I received a postcard from our guide, Jesse, thanking me for organizing my group of friends to go to AO. What a friendly place!

Farm Fresh produce is marvelous.  They are pure organic and delivered to you door.  The price is very reasonable.  Their selection is varied and provides us with Fruit and some vegetables all year round.  We used to go to the local Farmers Market but found this was so much better.

Hands down, choosing AO Rafting was the best decision we made when planning our trip.  If you've done any research looking for the best deals out there, you'll know that there are some seriously overwhelming sites (hello, http://raftwet.com!).
These guys are way organized--from my first phone call, to follow-up calls.  Planning a trip for a group of friends can get messy, but they were totally on top of everyones payments, etc.  Very cool.
Our guide was great--super knowledgeable about the area (he's been doing this for a long time and he's still young), seriously funny, and cute.  Can't beat that.  He entertained us the whole way on our one day trip down the Middle Fork.  We'll definitely be back next summer for the 2-day trip.
As a side note: We had 8 people.  Only 7 are allowed in a raft (including the guide).  So, we had to split into 6 and 2, which sucked.  We didn't get that head's up till we got there.  Plan accordingly!

Nothing but the best from All Outdoors. We've been rafting every year for the past six years and it had always been with AOR.  On our 6th year our trip to Tuolumne River was free (frequent floater program, after 5 trips, next is free) and it was by far the best trip we've had ever! We've been to South and Middle Fork number of times but nothing tops Tuolumne.  From booking and reservations, down to the guides, the food, the company, AOR is the way to go. I'm sure we'd be rafting with them for years and years to come.  Next year is Merced River!

I just went rafting with this company for the first time and had a great time.  While it's a little hard to find the meeting spot, it's well worth the hunt.  My friends and I rafted down the southern fork of the American River today and survived Satan's Cesspool.  The lunch they provided mid-day was delicious and wonderfully presented - it's like these guides went to Le Cordon Bleu or something.  I think our guide was a little inexperienced and as a result we tipped over and several of us were trapped under the raft.  The guide did not try and help us which is a sign of inexperience (or indifference) but we clearly made it through and had a good laugh about it afterwards (after I cried like a pathetic wuss).  Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely use this company again.  They offer rafting trips all over California and even offer a trip to Chile.  I would definitely go back despite the traumatizing flip-over.
