In all, I was very pleased with All My Sons. Mike came out several weeks before my local (in-town) move and gave me a written estimate of charges for my move, including packing and materials. (I work two jobs & just don't have the time or energy to pack everything.) Their estimate was slightly higher than the other companies I had contacted, but I was willing to pay a bit more given the company's good reputation.

On moving day, Andre, Noah, and Brian were right on time. They packed everything quickly and were extremely polite and professional. En route to the new apartment, Andre called me to tell me they had stopped off at 7-Eleven for cold beverages and would not bill me for those 15 minutes. Very professional.

The end result was a relatively hassle-free move that was even less than the estimate I was given. They even transported my aquarium & a bucket full of tropical fish who survived the move just fine. My only complaint was that one picture frame broke in transit; they gave me information to file an insurance claim, but I don't know if I want to go through the trouble. Other than that small problem, they did an excellent job. It was well worth the money paid for my piece of mind.

Update 4/28: My move was two weeks ago & I am still awaiting a refund for the $126.25 that I overpaid.

Update 5/8: I've been in contact with Ed at All My Sons every day, and no one seems to know what happened to my refund check. He said the accounting department is in the middle of an audit and so are unreachable. I'm about to drop my star rating.

    This place is awful.

They changed moving times on me three seperate times, then they still was late!! The time was drawn out by the movers to increase the price on the front end. Since they call you to finalize the cost at the end they hurry up and finish since they are on their own time, Jason the owner is a joke. When I informed him of the move he ranted okay we didn't do anything right lets talk about money because that's what its all about. I will give you X amount off then he took that back! This is why they call him the "little guy". He told me he would wait to talk to my attorney. Run for the hills dealing with this company. The issue is with the :little guy" owner

AWFUL! Do not use this moving service.

Not only were black scuffs and marks carelessly engraved onto the building walls, but once the move was completed, the price mysteriously skyrocketed.

Furthermore, the movers claimed that people usually gave them $100 tips and were upset with $50/each (for a 2 hour move).

I could not wait to get these unprofessional and rude individuals out of my home (and clean the restroom which each of them just had to use before leaving my new apartment).

I used them twice, once to go from Chicago to the burbs in '09 (about 45 mins), and once from burbs to burbs in '10 (about 20 mins).
Both times was about a 1 br move and they recommended 2 people.
I think most of the experiences depend on who you get from the company.  The first move was smoother and very efficient.  I was amazed at how they stacked boxes 5 high and bounded down the stairs.
The second move was still good, but the movers weren't as efficient but by this time I had a little more furniture so they had their work cut out for them.
They tend to round up liberally, even tho it's supposed to be at 15 min intervals, so make sure you keep track.
In the end, it's well worth the cost to not have to bribe my buddies to come help lol.

I'll be honest...I used to have a 1 star review for this place, but I removed it because I didn't want it to cancel out this 4 star review. They totally saved our a**es when Express Moving Company (out of Buffalo Grove, IL) didn't show up. It was a little over what we hoped to pay, but overall the guys were cool.

In looking at the other reviews (and considering my first, now deleted, experience with All My Sons), this may not be the first place you want to call. However, if you do, make sure and remind them of your move a couple times. And, if you get stuck in a bind and your movers don't show, they definitely come through. Bless you, All My Sons.

Not the cheapest bunch in the world, but worth the money.

The sales guys were very organized and professional. It made me feel like I was working with a company that takes their profession seriously. They called to confirm the day before, and called again to notify me that they were on the way.

The movers were 15 minutes early, and told me they were going to do their best to save me a half hour or so if they could. They were efficient, fast, and really friendly. Some of the stuff in our old apartment we were going to leave and handle later. But they even offered to take it to the dumpster, which was very helpful, and above their job description.

Besides a couple of broken wine glasses, everything came in one piece. They took care of our new floors, and took our direction very well.

I would give them five stars if they were a little cheaper, but for four hours, we only paid about $500, and that's not that bad.

I would recommend them to anyone, (hopefully they get the movers that we got, obviously can't vouch for all of the movers).

Hate to kick a place when it's down, as this spot obviously is, but if you break a television set and don't pay for it then you are a sucky moving company.
"how do we know it wasn't broken already?"

Why would anyone move a broken tv set to their new house?! Gah!

Good, affordable movers.  I've used them 3 times so far and have always been satisfied.  I tried to book them for my last move, but was too late in trying to book them, they had no availablity for a locked move-out, move-in date (they book up quick in the spring and summer months...definately plan ahead).  Instead, I booked Midway Movers, who were the only local mover with availabilty  (I will no longer be a procrastinator).  Whoa!!!  This is when I realized what a value All My Sons is. Same amount of rooms that needed to be moved but twice the price.  And with All My Sons I had two guys, as opposed to the three I had with Midway, and All My Sons were quicker.

Nothing against Midway, they did a fine job, and the movers were very courteous, but I guess All My Sons spoiled me...they were definately a better value.

UPDATE:  I'm not going to take any of my stars down because they reflect my experience but I feel it important to share...
I recommended  the company to a friend, who had an awful experience.  Inept movers came to her house, damaged her front door, damaged the garage, and freaked out over traffic.  Every business has a bad day, and every business has poor employees, I don't know if things were just totally off for her that day and totally on for me the last few times I used them, I just wanted you all to know that apparently the experience is not consistent.

Needed movers... got a recommendation for All My Sons from my best friend...  Almost went with a "cheaper"  independent mover.... SO glad I didn't.

All My Sons were professional, on time, and upfront about how much the hourly rate would be.   They were fast, efficient... didn't brake anything and prorated the hour...    They ended up cheaper than the "cheap" movers...  They called me back to find out how my move went.   Great customer service.

    I'd definitely use them again.

We've used this company twice and both times we experienced exemplary service. They recommended three movers and we underestimated the need and reduced the count to two despite their suggestion. Turns out we really could have used the third guy but the two men on the job were extremely efficient and got the job done better than we could have imagined.

Nothing was damaged. They loaded our clothes into the wardrobe boxes for us. They were courteous and seemed to enjoy their line of work. Moving is always stressful but these guys gave us the confidence we needed to make it through the afternoon.

We will continue to recommend them to our friends and family.

    Yelp should allow negative stars.
    This place is awful.

The All My Sons (AMS) call center associates were extremely helpful, professional and diligent.  They really made me think I was in good hands.  They told me no need to un-pack dressers and that the movers would bring materials to properly pack my furniture and mattress.  They also informed me the movers would arrive between 8-10am and that they would call to confirm 24-hours before the move.

    1) No call to confirm.
    2) Movers were 5 hours late.  When I called to ask when they would arrive I was told that for my inconvenience they'd give me 3-guys for the price of 2.
    3) Movers called after 5-hours and told me they couldn't move me becuase of an emergency at my building (they were at the wrong address).
    4) When the movers finally arrived, they were rude and seemed annoyed.
    5) When they entered my 1-bedroom 720-sq ft apartment they told me I had too much stuff.  This is laughable.  For furniture I have: a sofa, ottoman, small stand for my TV, book case and bed.  Give me a break.
6)* The movers were quick.  Why?  Because they didn't bother to wrap my mattress and decided to drag my bookcase, on it's side across the building leaving deep un-repairable scratches.
    7) Before leaving I asked if they knew where they were going, they assured me they knew where they were going.
    8) They made sure to remind me to pick up cash for a tip :O
    8) 3-hours later (took me only 50-minutes to get to the new location) the movers called and were lost (go figure).
    9) One of the movers came up the stairs with box which was dripping all over my new carpet.  When I opened the box I discovered a bottle of Downy that was so smashed it looked like it had been run over by a bus.  There was glass in the box that was crushed so fine, I couldn't even identify what had been broken.
    10) When I asked the movers what would be done about my scratch bookcase, they said someone would call and that it wasn't their fault, they didn't know which side of the bookcase was up (they scratched the top).  One of the guys informed me since the bookcase was made from pressed board, the company wouldn't pay for it.  The other guy told him to shut up and that someone would call.
    11) $580 bill for a 1-bedroom apartment.
    12) No call.

I was excited about moving from Chicago to Houston, but dreaded the logistics of my relocation. When I selected All My Sons everything was handled with friendly professionalism.

I got 3 estimates from three different sized moving companies. All My Sons wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. I was comfortable with the mid-range quote, but even more comfortable with Sales Manager, Michael. (A competitor lost my business when they bad-mouthed other companies).

I packed all my belongings, and they took care of delivering wardrobe boxes and wrapping my furniture.  From loading to delivery, I was happy and tipped the movers on each end. Not one item arrive dbroken! Hooray!

I would recommend All My Sons to my friends.

I read the reviews here before choosing All My Sons and want to caution folks against the Indianapolis branch. Working with this company has been terrible. I can't recommend against them strongly enough. I moved from Indy to Boston and suffered damages, tremendous stress, huge overpayments, and the loss of many possessions altogether.

The company tried to charge me about $400 for "labor" expenses not included in the "not to exceed" contract - twice, both upon pick up and drop off of my stuff. They've been deceptive and unpleasant to work with. We've all been burned in moves, but this one is really outrageous.

In September, they told me that they "had" to deliver the belongings a week earlier than the window (on a day that I would be out of town at a conference and my new apartment was still under construction). They had lots of reasons for this: they had only ONE driver who did long hauls, only ONE driver who knew how to drive on city streets (what?), and he had to be home to be with his family during the upcoming hurricane. If they didn't do the drop off that day they couldn't say when it would happen. So, construction dust aside, my family stood in for me to supervise the move, as I boarded the plane.

Guess what? The guy who "had" to deliver the stuff - the whole reason we did the move a week early in the first place - didn't show! He sent his cousin to do his job for him. Two guys from an outside staffing agency arrived at the designated time, the driver was lost, he finally arrived and locked his keys in the cab and spent until 1:30 or 2 PM trying break into his truck with a coat hanger.

It was at about this time that it became apparent that we were missing a couch, a marble shelf belonging to an étagère, and 14 cartons. At least two pieces, one leather chair and one dresser, had gouges. There was also some confusion about the location of an armoire that the driver did not believe he had on his van. Luckily mom saw it on the van and insisted it belonged to me. But they didn't have the right manpower or hoist to bring it up the stairs. The rep at the company told my mom they wouldn't take responsibility for delivering it and it was left on the street. Meanwhile the driver approached my brother for payment and overcharged by some hundreds of dollars. The men did not assemble the furniture per the contract. Rather they left a partial load of my things in the construction dust, unassembled, having overcharged and tremendously inconvenienced my entire family.

We have spent weeks trying to get a call back and some kind of response about getting the couch delivered and the rest of the issues straightened out. We've been told lots of different things about when the owner will call back or where my couch is. DO NOT MOVE WITH ALL MY SONS! We're going to have to go to formal arbitration to get this sorted out, what a pain!

Edit -- I wanted to update this by saying that after almost a year of shenanigans with the Better Business Bureau, the Department of Transportation, a lawsuit, discussions with lawyers in two cities, etc. I finally extracted a settlement from the All My Sons representative. It covers the extent of my damages but doesn't begin to compensate for the time lost trying to deal with this. Please, look elsewhere for your moving needs.

When I have to move again I will definitely not choose this moving company.

    1) They scheduled our move time anywhere between 1p-4p. They were an hour late.
    2) We started off with 3 guys, but before the move out of apartment was done...one of the guys walked off. So, we ended up having to help them finish moving out of our apartment AND into our new apartment.
    3) The insurance is worthless - it was less than $1/lb. So, say you have a 20lb. flat screen worth $1000 and they break it...well, you get less than $20 back. Imagine my shock, when they opened the side door to unload, unsecured my items and the other guy decided to move the truck forward a little bit causing mattresses to fall ON TOP of a very large painting but light - and then how I felt when I realised that it was insured for maybe $5.

If you have very expensive, large items that don't weight very much...I suggest you do not use this company. Even if you don't have the aforementioned...I suggest not using this company.

I am incredibly disappointed in this moving company.  We confirmed the night before that they would show up at our apartment between 9 and 10am.  No one showed, and no one called.  I called every number I could find and no one answered.  Finally, about 11:45, one of the movers called and said they had had one dispatch phone and it ran out of batteries, so they couldn't call me to tell me my time had been pushed back.  so THEN he said he'd call me an hour before they could come.  I waited until 2:45 when someone else called and said their truck broke down and there were NO OTHER TRUCKS (what?) available until tomorrow morning.  Completely unprofessional, and left us hanging in the lurch for hours - plus it's Sunday afternoon, we're sitting here with everything packed - now what?  DON'T PICK THEM.  read the other 1 star reviews!  terrible.

So, it was great to have movers, and their prices are some of the lowest. But...we asked for three guys, and only got two, they took longer than the three guys were quoted to take. One of the guys kept talking to me about how much he hated the company, and how bad they were and how terrible they treat their employees. I think he just wanted a better tip? Nothing broke, thank goodness, but they were a pain to work with and couldn't tell us when they were coming, even on the day of the move. I for sure won't use them again, or suggest them to friends.

Well, everyone that I talked to in the office before my move was great.  I got a really good feel for the company, I had read great reviews and they have a good rating on the BBB website.  Their quote was pretty in line with a lot of other quotes I had.  They also called a few days in advance to confirm the appointment... so far... so good.

Come moving day, the guys showed up on time and I got three movers for the price of two.  The guys were nice and friendly...

But WOW did they do a HORRIBLE job!!!  I only moved about seven blocks and every single piece of furniture I own is now scratched, dented or in some other way damage.  It was not a difficult move - high rise elevator, to a second floor walk up... not an unusually small or curvy stair case... none of my furniture is extra large, bulky or heavy... and I moved seven blocks!

I am incredibly disappointed with the lack of care they took in moving my belongings.  I did not notice a single thing being wrapped.  It looks like a few of my pieces of were just drug along the cement.

Oh, and they still have the legs to my couch... that's really awesome considering it's a sofa bed and you can't open the bed part without the legs because the couch isn't high enough... yeah...

I am currently filing a claim with the claims company.  Hopefully it'll work out but it's difficult to say what I want (as far as $amounts or for things to be fixed) A few pieces are more seriously damaged... but overall, just minor scratches on EVERYTHING!!!!  (grrrr....)

I've moved three times in Chicago in the past 3 years and this is by far the worst company. They broke about three pieces of furniture and scratched three more. Needless to say they won't reimburse me anything because of some insurance I didn't pay for. So, if you pay tons I assume you get a better service, but truthfully I feel like suing them after they harassed me so much to use their services, I accepted and this is what happened. Next time I'm going with Golan which was way better, I don't know why I didn't go for them instead.

This review refers to http://www.allmysons.com/.  I have used them twice, and both times it was a pleasant experience.  Their quoted rates are more reasonable then most other places I have tried, and they don't low-ball your estimate only to jack it up after the move is completed.  They are friendly, courteous, and work fast.  In both moves nothing was damaged or broken.  Both their website and their phone reps emphasize their good customer service and they actually encourage you to check their Better Business Bureau rating.  I have heard many horror stories about movers but I am very comfortable with recommending this company to people, they're great.
