What? "Ethnic" food on Vashon that actually tastes..."Ethnic" ?
Break out the hall of fame application form!
I hope it doesn't go way of Wok In but before I jinx it- lets move onto. brass tacks.
The Indian food tastes like Indian food, huzzah! Now I admit- I have had better but it isn't too far off from Chutneys. They give complimentary Naan (mmmm it was delicious) make Mango Lassi , and offer Chai. Holy COW! Their food is good.
As for specs , they have a very nice decor with an AWESOME backroom presumably for parties with cushions on the floor and it is just beautiful. There was lovely gold printed silk bolts of cloth up on the ceiling and bollywood musicals on the huge flat screen TV .
The buffet (11.95 I believe) however was a bit precious. All the food is in glass dome-covered chaffing dishes at least a foot from the table they were on. It has glass partitions between foods as if anticipating some sort of food fight ,they were it's insufficient protection... the buffet is set up weird. I recommend they just put the plates at the end of the table instead of across from it.
I would not recommend kids under ten-because I can anticipate a huge mess unless they like to build ships in bottles, but I don't see why anyone wouldn't enjoy. I have not been this excited about a restaurant on the island in along time. -

Nice, but not perfect. The food is fine, and waiters are really warm and nice. I think the problem is the building, which used to be carved up into smaller sections to accomodate more businesses. A few years ago, there was a remodel of the space done as a vanity project for a rich lawyer and now it's just big and cold and boring like the ego made it that way. One thing I really liked with the Indian place was the room in the back that was all pillows and low tables...except that they had an annoying TV on in the corner. I really want this place to thrive because I believe that the new proprietors have their hearts in it.

Good, but not as good as the first time I was there! I think part of it (my 5 rating) was my delight at being able to find good Indian food on the island!

I loved this place! I had one of their lunch specials and it was very tasty and not at all skimpy. I'm heartbroken they've closed. I hope the new restaurant is as good!

I am so happy that this restaurant has opened up on Vashon. It's such a nice surprise considering the small mix of restaurants here. My better half and I have been to All India on 5 occasions... 3 times sitting in the back room with the cushions and 2 times sitting at a booth in the front. To give you an idea of where our opinion originates, we are both avid Indian food fans and have eaten at many other restaurants. The food at All India has been great on all 5 occasions and the wait staff extremely nice each time. Most of the dishes are priced reasonably, are interesting with a few favorites, and we keep going back to try new items. The wait can be long at times, but presumably they've cut back on staff hours during this tough economic time. We've always had enough bread and drink refills to keep us happy. The plates are always big and the decor is pleasant. I haven't minded the TV in the back room, as the Bollywood style programming is all new and interesting to us. We're hoping that they survive on the island and we will give them our business as often as we are able!
