I can't really add much that hasn't already been said. I simply want to make it even more reassuring for someone like me, who was needing some work done and really had no clue where to go and who I could trust.

These people are awesome. I LOVE Daisy! Dropped my car off at 10:00am. They told me it would be done around 1PM. They called me while I was having breakfast at Cafe Gratitude (totally in walking distance) and gave me a quote and it was just that easy.

I found out they also do all kinds of mechanic work and body work as well. I am so grateful for having found this little shop and it's reassuring to know exactly where I'm heading, should I need more work on my car. Thank you All Brake!

A trusted service provider, I felt like everyone involved took care of me and had my best interest in mind.

I came in with an extended warranty on my Jetta, which DAISY was glad to look over and contact directly with any report they would need to assess my coverage.
TOM diagnosed my car and broke down the repairs like this:
    Here's what is wrong
    Here's what could use repairing
Here's what's covered under your extended warranty
And here's what we could do if you want to fix everything in one shot, so you don't have any long term issues.
Based on my financial situation, I was only able to take care of what was under my coverage, leaving me with only my $100 deductible. He had no problem with that and didn't pressure anything on me.

I appreciated their attitude and business, proposing repairs, rather than telling me I needed X & Y repaired or else I wouldn't feel safe on the road. I will definitely continue to bring my business there and refer my friends their way.

    Thanks guys

    5/18/2012 11 Check-ins Here

This review is long overdue. We've been taking our Honda Accord and Honda CR-V to Tom at All Brake for a few years now and are very happy with the performance of this shop. The first time we came in, it was to replace the brakes on both vehicles. Zero issue there. Later, after doing a routine check-up at the dealership, we brought our vehicles in to All Brake to see if they could do all the work the dealership recommended. "You don't need half of this stuff," Tom told us after checking out the vehicle. He went through each issue and told us why the dealership recommended it, how critical (if it all) it actually was, and how much cheaper AB&L would do the work if we still wanted it done. No pressure tactics involved at all. We weighed our options and had around 2/3rds of the work done (at a fraction of what the dealer would have charged). No issues with any of it afterward.
Since then, we rarely have a problem with work done here and the one time there was still an issue, we brought it back and problem solved a few hours later at no extra charge. I feel confident that as long as Tom and his friendly staff keep up the good work at such competitive prices, we will continue to take our vehicles here and trust their expertise. I highly recommend All Brake & Lube!

This place is great. It's so awesome to finally find an honest mechanic, that knows what they're doing. Chris and his dad run this operation, and they're great people. From now on I'll have all of my auto maintenance done here.

DON'T BRING YOUR CAR TO A B & L!!!  I have been a repeat customer since January 2011.  The result of this experience is that I brought my car to Tom Pina (owner) more than three times for one issue, THE CAR IS WORSE THAN EVER and I AM OUT OVER $2500 about the blue book value.

My complaint was that my car was overheating when it was idle in December 2011, so I brought it to A.B. for an inspection.  They put in antifreeze and sent me on my way.  I stated that the problem was not just a lack of antifreeze, as I had just put some in the day before, but figured they were the experts, so I went with their diagnosis.  Again, the car was running fine with the exception of the overheating when idle at this time (it was not stalling or having problems going up the hill that I live on).

I brought it in a couple of times again in the next couple of weeks so that they could better inspect the car, but they turned me away saying that they were "maxed out".

It was mid January 2012 when they finally had time to look at it again, and this time I complained that the check engine light was on.  Tom had the car for several days before he even told me what he thought was the problem.
He told me that installing a new timing belt, adjusting the valves and working on the distributor housing should fix the problem and after this work it would run better than ever.  I asked him at that time if he thought this car was dying on me because I did not want to spend any more money on repairs for it.  He told me that the car would run better than ever with these repairs; I paid him $836.15 and took it home on 1/25/12.

On the way home, the car barely made it up the hill I live on; a problem I had not been experiencing prior to leaving it in A. B.'s possession.  I called Tom on the way home and told him what was going on and he told me to bring it back in the next day.  So I did, and I waited while they checked it out and supposedly adjusted the valves again.

I drove the car for just a few days, still noticing that it wasn't running as well as before.  I took it in for a smog check on 2/3/12 which it did not pass.  The rep at the smog test station advised me that I needed to bring it back to A. B.  On the way home from the smog check, the car again was running terribly and the check engine light came back on, so I parked it and had it towed to A. B. the following Monday, 2/6/12.

Again, after several days, Tom gave me a new assessment and quote.  He said that there was a misfire between the cylinders and antifreeze was escaping.  HE NOW QUOTED ME AN ADDITIONAL $1060.98 +tax and $204.03 for a window regulator.  I expressed my concerns that I had just paid him over $800 on what he thought would fix the problem.  At the time I realized I had no choice because he had the car and I needed it back fixed, although I know now that he misdiagnosed the issue previously.  He should have given me the option to fix those items at a later time when they were necessary so that I could apply that money towards the most urgent issue which was the head gasket.  Again, he stated that after this, the car would run better than ever and guaranteed it would pass the smog check.

When I finally did pick up the car on Monday, 2/27/12 (exactly three weeks after leaving it with him on 2/6/12), he charged me a total of $1710.96, much more than I expected.  Relying on the fact that the car would be working, I paid and went to my car to leave.  As I approached the drivers side, I noticed that the window was in the same condition that it was when I brought it to in, complained about, and just paid Tom to fix.  I told him and he said to bring the car back yet again so he could fix it.  Although I was completely at the end of my rope, I agreed, again assuming that the rest of the issues were repaired.

On the way home, the car stalled twice.  Again, a new problem that I never had before.  The next day, I told Tom about this and he offered to buy my car for $2900... If I agreed, Tom would have my car, the repairs he purported to make on it and over $2500.  I would only have $400.

I consulted several other mechanics and took the car in for inspection at Acura.  Acura found that the repairs he made to the head gasket were not done, the car was running rough and quoted me $1200 to fix it.  Acura advised me that I should ask for a refund, the problem was always the head gasket from when I brought it in in December complaining of the overheating when idle, and that Tom needed to justify the work he had charged me for.

I sent Tom the reports and asked for my money back.  He strung me along for another week and then denied my refund.  DON'T USE ALL BRAKE UNLESS YOU WANT A BROKEN CAR AND A UNJUSTIFIED LOSS OF A LOT OF MONEY!  IF THIS HELPS ONE PERSON AVOID THE HASSLES I AM GOING THROUGH IT IS WORTH IT!  I WILL NOW BE PURSUING THIS IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT!!!!

This was the best experience that I've ever had at a "car repair" type of place. Everybody was the nicest--so kind and welcoming, especially Daisy. She's so warm, friendly, and organized. She kept me abreast of the entire process, explaining exactly what was going on in terms that I could understand (since I'm not well-versed on "car-jargon.")

They don't overcharge or tell you need repairs that you don't need, and they are very efficient and speedy.

Also, when I couldn't get there to pick up my car before they closed, they waited for me, and were so nice--taking their time with me, asking me about my day, etc. The whole experience was so pleasant, I wish I had other cars to take to them to repair!

Plus the receipt was so clear and itemized. I knew exactly what had been done, and what each charge was for.

    A+

on 3/22/10: These guys are great. Very honest and reliable. I brought my honda here for a few fixin's last year and the service was quick and affordable. Tom explained everything that was goin on with the car in an easy way to understand (for someone that doesn't know too much about cars). I had decided to bring it in here because i work a few doors down and it was convenient. Well I liked them so much that when it came time to fix my husbands truck, I convinced the hubs to switch cars with me for the day so I could bring it here. Thanks for the good work guys

Updating to add that I just brought my Honda in again for some work again. Tom is the best. Great work, great prices. I'll be bringing my car in to Tom for the rest of it's life... which it has already lasted 10 years...might last another 10 with his care!!!

I went in to get my brakes inspected and I was worried that I needed not only new brake pads, but rotors: I was unfortunately right. I was told over the phone that brake pads would run as a $135 1 hour job, but was not told that that estimate was ONLY for the front set. I decided to just get it done here and bite the bullet.

THREE hours later, I had new brake pads, a new front rotor, and a brake fluid change. Three hours! And the worst part, it cost $425. I was charged two separate labor fees for each set of wheels, along with over priced parts. I should've fought more about this fact, but I was running late for work as it was.

The people who work there are very nice and friendly and though I still hear a slight grind they did seem to do good work. Next time, however, I'm buying my own parts and taking them elsewhere.

    100 reviews? Sa-weeet!

This place deserves to be my 100th review.  I have gotten ripped off by so many auto repair places, as most of us have.  All Brake and Lube is a completely legit, honest place to take your car.  I needed new brakes badly.  They were making that grinding sound that hurts your teeth.  Carlos told me what needed to be fixed and said that I only needed one rotor.  I had never heard a mechanic say I only needed one anything before.  They did the whole brake thing in about 40 min, and my car is running beautifully.

Thank you for being honest, efficient, quick, and doing quality work.  I will recommend to people and be back myself.

Totally as good as it gets. Brought lemon  my Kia Sportage in for poor gas mileage (4 cylinder getting 14 mpg, wtf) The diagnostics were telling me the culprit was the oxygen sensor, but I (and Tom) knew it was a little more tricky than just a plain old replacement. It turned out to be a whole rings/air/combustion/gas/engine whole job totaling more than the car's worth. It's a shame - this car only has 66, 000 miles on it and totally new, rebuilt tranny and transfer case (forgot to drop the drive-train when towing it up on two wheels across-country).

It's a big loss for a poor girl, but Tom delivered the news the easiest, kindest way possible - and DIDN'T CHARGE ME!

Also, there was this hot, lawyer lady who insisted her lemon Jag had been fixed already been the piss-poor immoral mechanic down the street. Tom announced, under no uncertain terms, that the repairs HAD NOT been done, and challenged the lying mechanic to prove otherwise. He re-couped almost all the woman's $4000 and then ACTUALLY did the work for much less. It was quite a sight to see. You'd think an attractive lawyer could handle her own affairs, but whatever.

And Tom did it all without the bat of an eye, no big deal shrug. Deserves all the praise he gets.

Would hook him up with a friend, but I think he's already married with kids. Shame.

Oh, and he takes you back in the garage and does a re-enactment of why your car is sucking.

The owner of this place cares about his customers and gives honest affordable service.  I went in for a transmission issue and he told me that this problem was covered under a recall at toyota.  I had no idea and dealing with a dishonest
Mechanic I could have spent 1000's unnecessarily.  He was right and Toyota fixed my car for free!  This is exactly why he has five out of five stars.  Look no further this is an amazing Hollywood find!!!

I am not a typical yelp reviewer and usually just peruse through the reviews to find what I need, but I felt obligated to write my first review for All Brake & Lube.

I trusted the reviews on Yelp and went to this business as it is really close to my workplace and thus would make it easy to drop off and pick up my car for repairs.

For some background information, I bought a used car off a friend and I knew that it would need a bit of work to get to decent condition.  So the first thing I did was to take it to this business to get my brakes fixed.  I ended up spending $700 on replacing all four rotors and brake pads, which I expected and was no big deal.  I also needed a major tune-up and had an issue with some burning oil in my engine.

So I pay $800 for the major tune-up in which they claimed to have replaced hoses, gasket covers, fuel pump and a few other miscellaneous things.  They assured me that this would take care of the burning oil issue and that the car should run like new.

Upon picking up my car after the major tune-up, everything felt fine until I drove it for approximately 15 minutes.  After that period of time, there were enormous amounts of smoke coming from under my hood and I pulled over immediately.  Considering that I was going to use my car for the long July 4th weekend and that it was a Friday, I was EXTREMELY upset.

I obviously had no idea why this was happening and I couldn't get a hold of anyone for the next 3 days as they had all taken the weekend off.  Needless to say, this completely ruined my weekend plans.  Knowing that these types of things happen, I didn't bring up my ruined weekend to Tom (apparently the boss there) when I took my car back on the following Monday.  I figured, hey they must've missed something and it's just an honest mistake.  My weekend was ruined, but shit happens.

I drop the car off on Monday, They inspect the car and Tom says, oh, the wires that connect to your spark plugs were soaked in oil and we tried to dry them off the best we could.  But now, it seems as though we have to replace them...

UHHHHH WTTTFFFF.  If you knew that you might have to replace them, why didn't you go ahead and do it???????

So there goes another $150 to replace these "wires".  Tom just brushes it off by saying, oh you know these European cars...(this is an explanation I basically got for everything that they failed to fix or needed to fix after they made additional inspections).  After the wires were fixed, still smelled burning oil and still had the same problem.  Obviously they couldn't fix or identify the problem again.

I call Tom again the next day and take it back in and he says that the wires should have fixed the problem, but now they will tear the engine apart to see what the issue is (I thought that was what would happen when I first took it in, but apparently not).  At the end of the day, he gives me a call and tells me that they identified the problem and put the engine back together again. It turned out that my cam shaft seals were leaking, so they would have to take the engine apart AGAIN and replace the seals.  And this would cost $1,400......My thinking was, if the part is only like $5, why couldn't you just replace the seals when you found the problem?  They were able to take apart the motor in less than 4 hours, but when Tom calls me to give me the quote he says it's an 11 hour job to.  This was the final straw for me.

Needless to say, it was obvious by now that they were just milking me for my money when I had already spent approximately $1,800.  I took my business elsewhere and when they inspected my engine, they noted that the gasket heads needed replacing (Tom claimed they had replaced these), and that some of the hoses were busted and were taped up with electrical tape rather than replaced (as claimed by Tom).  I spent another $1K getting my engine correctly fixe by professionals who weren't going to rip me off (helps that I took a mechanic friend with me this time).

This place will rip you off while smiling to your face and feel no qualms about it.  It really pisses me off that they took $1,800 of my money and that I have the same engine issues as when I took it in before.

All in all, they did a good job on the brakes, but for my engine I took the four in 4 separate times and the car is basically the same as when I took it in the first time.  They basically ripped me off $1,100 and tried to milk me for more and more business.

DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE ANY BUSINESS AS THEY ARE THIEVES AND DON'T EVEN DO THE WORK THAT THEY CLAIM TO DO.  I'M SORRY TO SAY, BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW TIMES THAT YELP REVIEWERS HAVE FAILED ME.  IF YOU HAVE GOTTEN WORK DONE HERE, I'D ADVISE TO GET YOUR CAR CHECKED OUT AGAIN SOMEWHERE ELSE TO MAKE SURE THEY DIDN'T JUST DO A PATCH-WORK JOB LIKE THEY DID WITH MY CAR.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMIES, AND WILL PROACTIVELY TELL MY FRIENDS TO NEVER GO HERE.

    FIVE STAR!!!

I had my oil changed by my other mechanic, and after a 100 miles there's a smoke coming out of the hood of my car. so i decided to go in this location to have my car's oil checked since the check oil signal kept on lighting up. I went inside the shop and talked to Tom (the owner). he is really, really nice and easy to talk with. He said he'll take care of my car and that's what he did. All of his staff are friendly esp Carlos. They even told me that there was an oil leak in my car and they fixed it. (They even recharged my battery ... NO CHARGE!!!)

Earlier today (Saturday) my car just stopped in the middle of the street.. Luckily, i was just 2 blocks away from their shop. After i called AAA to replace my battery with a new one, I drove my car to their shop and left it there for them to figure out what's wrong. I knew they'll find a way to fix it because now i found an honest and trustworthy mechanic. Tom even offered to drive me back to my place and that i really appreciate a lot.

    Thanks Tom!!!! You're the MAN!

p.s. don't ever go to my old mechanic name Jose at the corner of Fountain and Normandie... every time i go there for a repair, next time you know, there's another problem that comes up!!!! they used a used oil for my oil change, replaced my fan belt and left it loose and tried to charge me $120 for a $60 tire that i checked online

I took my car in for regular maintenance and will definitely be coming back for my auto needs. Here's what to expect from All Brake & Lube:
    * Impeccable Service: The owner, Tom, truly cares about his business and customers. If he cannot fix it, he'll recommend someone just as reliable.
    * Honesty: Rather than trying to get me to spend more money on the spot (a la the big box chains), Tom took the time to explain what, why and when I should replace specific parts.
    * Respect: I've never felt more comfortable at an auto shop - a plus for women.
    * Pricing: Upfront and very reasonable.

You know you got car problems when you roll up to a stoplight and all the people waiting at the bus stop twirl their heads to see where the grinding noise is coming from.  That's how it was last week for me.

I took my car to Infiniti of Santa Monica just as a curiosity I guess to see what they'd charge.  My back brake pads and rotors needed replaced they said for a whopping $595.  I said no dice and went straight to yelp for a referral - which led me to Brake Masters.  I dropped it off around 8 and it was done by 1.  A little slow to get it checked out, but that's cool, cause the total was $178 with new brake pads and just repairs to the rotors.  SWEET!  And they're totally cool, especially the girl that works the front - Daisy.  Thanks guys.

Tom Pina owns Brake Masters on 6065 Melrose Ave. and he runs a great business.

I stopped by 6 months ago to have my breaks check, because there was a grinding noise when I pressed on my brake pedal. He checked it out and explained why the noise was occuring.(dust particle build-up from non-asbestos brake pads)

Bottom line, no charge for the inspection and I did not need new brake pads. Tom told me to come back in 3 to 6 months, depending on how much I drive.

When I did come back to get my brake-pads replaced, my car was ready a few hours later and the price was great.

I highly recommend this business for brake repair.

No one wants to spend money fixing their car, but unfortunately most of us need to at some point. And this is when finding a good mechanic is like finding a good doctor. Who can you trust? Who will diagnose the problem correctly and get you back on the road again? Here in LA our choices for car repair seem almost limitless. You can't drive a block without seeing some sort of car repair shop. Sounds like a good time to turn to Yelp. I debated between a few places, but decided on All Brake & Lube (who do much more than just brakes and oil changes) because of the reviews here. I read many genuinely positive reviews and weighed them against the negatives. That was the easy part because there was 1 negative review at the time. Next, I looked at the 3-star reviews and saw that they were mostly positive. This is my Yelp process. And All Brake won out against a few other highly rated shops.

Now that I had my shop, I had to actually take my car there. I used to dread this part and procrastinate, but no more. I had problems with my brakes and suspension. These can turn out to be pretty major repairs and I ended up coming out better than what I envisioned. Tom greeted me with a, "We'll take care of this for you" and they did. Told me my brakes were fine (they didn't sound that way when I took it in) and the last place I took it too didn't adjust them correctly. I'd been driving around for a couple years with brakes that weren't properly installed? No longer. Tom did the fix and I wasn't charged. On to the suspension... literally. I didn't luck out there as I needed my struts replaced. This wasn't a shock to me as my car was approaching 125K miles and maneuverability had been suffering for some time. The job was completed in a day and I was back on the road with a much more stable car. Yes, it wasn't cheap, but it came in less than what I expected. And the job was done well.

Since then I have been back to All Brake & Lube several times for other repairs I have put off. My second experience there is more of a testament to how great this shop is, but I won't go into details. I will say that Tom has earned my trust and will most likely earn yours as well.

I just had given up entirely on Los Angeles mechanics when I stumbled upon the crew at All Brakes & Lube. My brakes were making that oh-so-lovely grinding noise, and I dreaded taking my car back to the mechanics that I've been to before, the ones that give me the run-around, took days to do simple tasks, and were always looking to upsell me on something else.

So with all these expectations in mind, I was surprised when the friendly guys at All Brake & Lube took my car in the morning called me 2 hours later and said my car would be ready in the afternoon! I was so pleased with the price that I also had them do an oil change, which they also managed to do super quick. Service and the price they do it at are great here.

Quick. Easy. Friendly.  Took my Range Rover in at 10:30am got it back at 1:00pm.  Rear brake pads and sensor for $221.  Much cheaper than Rover Dealership.

    Another great yelp find!!

Needed an oil change and found this spot.  When I arrived they told me the wait may be a while since there were some ahead of me.  It ended up being less then an hour.  The mechanic that worked on my car was friendly as hell and the owner came out and talked to me.  He told me they do almost all auto work except tire balancing, and they won't BS you .  I asked for a quote on some other work, he said you may find cheaper but he only uses quality parts.  I overheard him working with another customer trying to find him the best/cheapest option on some brakes.  These guys honestly care and the customer service is better then any other auto shop I've found.  Oil change ran me $36.60.

I found this place via Yelp.
I couldn't afford to bring my Subaru Impreza (02) to the dealer to get my brakes done, so I did my research!  First, I had my oil changed there to check it out. The guys were really friendly and one of them even owns a Forrester!

I brought my car in to fix my brakes and I've been very satisfied with their work. I'm bringing in my Subaru to the dealer for an oil change and will ask THEM what they think about the brakes.

Highly recommend! Very friendly staff, professional, HONEST, and offer a great deal. They went out of their way to accommodate me. During my wait more than one long-time customer popped in and upon learning I was a newcomer proceeded to launch into praise for this shop. One guy had been going there for 10 years, that says a lot...

Despite the fact she only gets washed when it rains and also serves as my personal shoe closet, my car is my BABY. It's hard to find an honest mechanic in this city, especially one who doesn't freak out at the thought of touching a German car or smell blood when they realize I know absolutely nothing about cars...

Very helpful and honest;  if you're looking for a great mechanic in LA.  Come here.

Not only did they beat my other mechanic's price, but they're open on Saturdays.  Spectacular.

These are the friendliest and most helpful mechanics that I've ever brought my car to.  And sometimes they have a box of doughnuts for their customers to dig into while they're waiting! They have my loyalty as a customer.

Everyone who works there is courteous, respectful and just all-around nice to talk to. I often feel kind of skeezed out and objectified when I go to a mechanic -- not here; the first time I came here I end up talking to their service crew about USC football for 20 minutes.

As everyone else has attested, they do not oversell...they recommend what needs to be done to keep your car healthy and efficient. Case in point: my battery was basically dead; my boyfriend took it into Pep Boys, who told us we'd have to buy a new one to the tune of $100.  We ran the battery over to All Brake and Lube -- and 45 minutes later that had recharged for us, without charging a cent!

They also said they'd hook us up with a battery at a good price, should the old one go faulty again -- a promise I'm sure I'll take them up on when the time comes.

I took my '03 Toyota Matrix there when the dealer quoted me over 700$ to do the brakes, and Brakemasters did it for under 300$, rotated the tires for free and got it done in less then one day. When I thought that one of my front struts was going, I took it there for a checkup and quote on fixing it, and they TOTALLY ROCKED -- turns out it wasnt the strut, but some bits from underneath that were loose, they fixed it and got it back to me and charged me just for the 2 hours of labor to fix all the bits that have gotten loose over 90K miles of driving in crappy LA roads.

I like that they call you to let you know what's up, and are quote honest with their pricing.

Another great service today repairing a brake light that went out. Tom always goes above and beyond in all aspects of customer service. Having a mechanic you can trust, who never wastes your time recommending service you don't need, is priceless and so rare. Thank you guys for always making our family feel like valuable customers, even for the little things :)

Since the day I moved to LA these guys have been my #1 car guys. I constantly call frantically with my car woes and am always attended immediately with a calming smile :)
The father son duo are an awesome team, and I highly recommend them to anyone - extremely professional and always honest, well priced and quick to get back to me whenever I bring my car in.
I've had a new battery, new oil pan, all sorts of lights checked out on my VW Golf, so I've been through their doors quite a few times now.
Can't say enough good stuff about them!

    A++++++++++++

These guys are fantastic, honest, great quality, honest, super friendly, honest, and the list goes on...

I've come to these guys three times for break service. Mind you, i wait til the very last possible moment to get my breaks fixed and most of the time I need major work. BUT, they NEVER try to over sell and are always very honest about what I definitely NEED and what I need to watch out for.

"Car services" and "trust" seem to be antonyms, but with these guys I fully trust that they're going to do the job right and be straight with me about my needs.

    LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE THEM!!!!!

If you have to wait in their waiting room for the service to be done it will not be a boring and endless affair. To the contrary... I ended up having a long conversation w/ Tom about current affairs ranging from water pollution in China to Cafe de Olla... and then voila! My car was done.

Now, where to go for great shoe repair.... hmmm.....

Great place.  Friendly staff.  I needed to get my brakes replaced and found this place through yelp.  At the very least I didn't want to be taken advantage of by an automotive shop and my expectations were more than met here.  The people here seemed pretty honest and reasonable.  Fortunately they were not very busy the day I went to get my car serviced and I was able to pick it up the same day.
