Okay, anytime you have chicken mixed with mayonnaise, you gotta eat it on a croissant. That's just how it is.  I don't make the rules, but I do enforce them.
My boyfriend ordered the chicken cashew salad sandwich (On a croissant! Bonus points!)  He is so lucky I didn't devour it all after offering me a bite. It. Was. Phenomenal.
The seafood chop salad was just perfect - not too much dressing - and seeds on top to round it out nicely.
This place was crackin' on the sunniest Mother's Day Seattle has ever seen.  Kudos to the staff for cranking out the orders in record speed.  The line was to the door when we walked in, and we found ourselves at the counter by the time we had decided what to eat.   Oh yes, and bonus points for carrying Boylan's soda.  The grape flavor is bomb!

Alki Bakery lacks something perhaps the bakery part. This was my first visit here and I was not impressed with the selection of bake goods. but maybe they just specialize in  few things. Well that thought went out of my head when I ate their pecan cinnamon danish. Very limited flavor and texture was stiff like cardboard.

Seems like everyone seemed to be enjoying the soups and sandwiches with less people eating the bake goods but I am not wanting to go back to try the soups or sandwiches the staff is nice but it seems not worth it.

    Overall: Not overly impressive

We came to Alki bakery as it was part of our "bakery-crawl". However it was a sad place compared to Bakery Nouveau - the bakery items did not enthuse my appetite.

I stared into the cabinets, but sadly my taste buds were not turned on. The cakes didn't look great and looked somewhat stale, the other baked goods - muffins and cookies just looked ordinary, the chocolate eclairs looked horrendous, the pastries - pecan and something or other just looked big and not in the slightest appetizing. We eventually settled on a chocolate chip macaroon each, a decaf mocha and a decaf coffee - around $7.50 in total.

Because it was such a beautiful autumn day, we decided to sit outside in the beautiful sun. The view and atmosphere is lovely here and I can't understand why anyone would want to sit indoors in the bakery when it's so nice out.

Why we ordered two chocolate chip macaroons, I don't know - they were overly sweet and had no real oomph about them. The decaf coffee was weaker than water and luke warm. The mocha - I'm not sure, I didn't ask about it.

I'd definitely return to this area to enjoy the views, but sadly I will not be revisiting Alki bakery. I'd rather go to Bakery Nouveau, buy my goods there and bring them all the way to this location to enjoy them.

After putting in my odd order of 1 chocolate ice cream sandwich and 1 piping hot deliciously made chai latte, I pointed out a giant ceramic looking puck to my friend. It looked like a first grader's art project--a frosting covered paperweight right out of the kiln and made with love as a Mother's Day gift. Turns out, that ceramic puck was a cinnamon bun. My friend didn't believe the barista--a cinnamon bun? My friend's eyes grew just as large as the puck; in fact, they became glossed over in a similar fashion. She had to have one. And have one she did! Nearly a whole one! A whole puck! And she loved it. I had the smallest of bites. It was yummy, but I was quite content with my mismatched ice cream sandwich and fabulous chai.

Alki Bakery was a great pit-stop for our morning bike ride along beach. It's nicely situated in front of Alki Beach Park too. Life is so good.

When my Seattlite friend took me to Alki for a day, she insisted that we walk 30 minutes to this bakery for some sweets and, of course, coffee.

Well, I must say the walk was worth every step!  My tiramisu was perfection, the iced latte was perfection, and the fruit smoothie was.... you guessed it - perfection.

The decor inside is rather artsy/eclectic - which I like.  Nice spacious room with high tables and stools.  The staff is chill, as Seattlites all tend to be, and you definitely don't stand out of the crowd by wearing some jeans, a plain t-shirt, and flipflops (which I REALLY appreciated... coming from oh-so-fabulous NYC).

On my next visit, I'm definitely making the trek to this bakery again.

I definitely agree with some of the other reviews...this place is not a "bakery" per se, but I liked it nonetheless.

I was too hungry not to eat, but it was too far from dinner time to have a full meal, so I decided on a little snack.

This place is great for that.  They had scones, cinnamon rolls, danishes, and then desserts like cakes and tarts.  I opted for the cinnamon roll and a cup of white chocolate mocha.  The cinnamon roll was delicious!  I'm a big fan of the cinnamon rolls from Cinnabon, and this one tasted just like it, minus the sickeningly sweet part (which made it even better, I think).  They warmed it up for me, so the icing on the outside got nice and melted and the roll was warm and soft.  My mocha was nice and strong and I thoroughly enjoyed it also.

Their soups and sandwiches sounded great too, so I can't wait to come back for lunch!

Five stars for the turkey havarti sandwich, when made right, it makes my day.
Minus a few stars for when it is not made right. Like, if I have a mound of turkey with globs of mayo on one side of the sammie, and a piece of lettuce and dry bread on the other. I HATE having to rearrange my entire meal before I eat it. How hard is it to place things evenly?
Minus one more star because each time I've ordered a "real" meal here it has been just, meh, borderline disappointing.
Finally, I have always been happy with service and speed when I call in orders though. That's the way to go if you live close by.

One of my favorite places in Seattle to grab a coffee and some pastries on a Sunday afternoon.  The cookies are delicious and the coffee is great as well.  I haven't tried out the food menu, but I can only guess that it is great as well.

I couldn't get the WiFi working, but I could have been doing something wrong.  I'll update the review if I get it working.

Don't be deceived by the name, Alki Bakery has much more than just pastries. For example, the very yummy grilled veggie sandwich with pesto on foccacia bread was awesome! I could tell that it was hand made and not just sitting in the cooler. And, my friend got the grilled chicken cesar salad, and it too was yummmy (I stole a bite), not to mention it came with a pippin' hot bread stick.

For the price, you get a good size sandwich or salad, and it's made FAST and more importantly, fresh. And, I should mention the guy at the counter was very nice and funny. Even with a line of at least 5 customers, him being the only cashier, he took the time to joke with us and was quick.

Nice place for a quick bite if you're near Alki!

Something about the atmosphere really says "do not linger here."  The room echoes, the decor is bland, and nothing about it is inviting.  It is not a good place to linger over coffee and enjoy the view.  It is a horrible place to read literature.  I've been to other coffee shops that are busier yet still invite those who want to to linger.

The baked goods themselves are merely passable.  The piece of cake I got today was adequate.  Nothing about Alki Bakery is particularly bad.  It's just that nothing about it is particularly likable.

After my below mentioned run in with the worst possible Starbucks in the world, I walked next door to get something hot and sweet. As I was walking in, I was greated with the "Cinnamon bun" advertisment. Went in to see what that wax all about. Took one look and wasn't impressed. But right next to it were some delish looking muffins so I ordered the almond-poppyseed and a medium "wet" hazelnut cappucino.

If you don't know what a "wet" coffee is...how did you know where Alki Beach was?? It's a Seattle thing.

Oh and I'd like to go back and check out their assorted breads..it was 5 PM when I was there...me likes fresh bread..what can I say.

i've never had their baked goods. but they have so much more on their menu. Cafe Vita coffee! gotta grab some of that.
they got soups, a special of the day and always alki clam chowder. you can never go wrong with clam chowder.
they also have a selection of sandwiches and pasta. today i got a cashew chicken sandwich in a croissant. nice and tasty  and i'm not used to cashews in a chicken sandwich.
there's a lot of seating in here. but i would recommend to take the food to go and eat by the water.

When all of Seattle (ie- the _____ King 5 poll) loves a place you at least have to try it.

My Alki adventure dorky morning power-walk ended here, and I wandered in to look for something munch on while reading the new Stranger I nabbed on the street corner (it has already been pointed out to me how "Seattle" this plan was*). I selected a apricot white chocolate scone that sounded interesting after not finding much else. Don't get me wrong- there were things to eat like cinnamon rolls, slices of bread, etc. but I wasn't in the mood, and they looked like something I could have bought at QFC... which was so not the point of this excursion. For kicks I also asked for drip coffee. I was handed my scone on a plate- nice homey touch- and a paper cup for Cafe Vitta coffee. The scone was good and I liked that it wasn't too sweet. The coffee blew me away. For drip it raised my expectations to a higher level from now on.

There was a huge amount of seating choices- many with a view of the water and beach. I took advantage of their cups of crayons and simple coloring sheets available and colored a picture of two cherries with faces for my roommate to have as refrigerator art while I munched and read.

    Two things I noticed:
Lots of people eating cinnamon rolls
    - So I assumed they must be good and brought one home for my roommate who had had a bad encounter with the breakfast dessert the day before. Cute little to-go box and excellent service with a smile.
-A menu of reasonable salads, pastas, and sandwiches on a fresh board on the wall

Overall- pretty good... I like the quaint yet urban feel. I just might be back~ maybe for a sandwich next time.

Ps- I could not continue with my donut or cupcake testing here and that made me sad- lack of bakery selection and offering + an ok product lead to the 4 star rating

Another place I wanted to avoid..but I have little will power when it comes to sweets. So we only got..a choc chip cookie, lemon current scone, and a cinnamon roll, which was the size of a softball.

Did not get anything to drink...cause I basically forgot, due to the sight of the baked goods. Everything was yummy. The location is great of course, right acoss the street  from the beach. Nice pit stop when your in the area..or if your lucky enough to live in the area

    This place breaks my heart.

I feel like there is potential here...and that is why i have gone back over the years even though i have always been unimpressed and disappointed.  i really want to support this place.  i really want to go here and not the starbucks 2 doors down.  i really want to visit the alki bakery, just once, and see a full pastry case.

but no.  i will not go here again and this is why:

chocolate chunk cookie:   gross.  tastes like the tube kind of cookie dough....the just slice and bake variety.  the center is not cooked.  and the outside is rock hard.  i am all for ewey-gooey cookies.....but this just ewey.

i also ordered a short latte.  i stand at end of counter and wait.  and wait.  there is no one else in front of me.  counter guy seems to be socializing.  i walk over and ask about latte.  he seems no at all surprised and goes "oh....yeah...i threw away the ticket.  what was the drink again?"

now....i am not one to normally give baristas a hard time....i was one for years.  BUT CMON!!  i was standing right there!!!  here is what could have happened:

option one:  notice customer standing at counter by espresso machine.  think.  come up with mental list of last 3 orders.  ask customer..."i'm sorry, were you waiting for a drink?"

option two:  do your job and don't throw away a drink ticket until after you make the drink.

option three:  when customer approaches you after waiting and not getting latte, quickly apologize, act surprised by your complete drop of the ball, and say "this is on the house, here is your money back"

but no.  instead, he reheated old, already over-steamed milk, thus burning it, and threw it on top of nasty espresso.

thanks.  next time i will got to starbucks.  and i hate starbucks.

i wish there was an option for less than one star.

I always seem to be in West Seattle after they close.  Maybe it's a good thing because their baked goods are dangerously tasty!  I nipped inside once about five minutes before they were closing.  I apologised for being one of those people who don't know what they want but the employee told me to take my time.  I chose a pair of chocolate chip macaroons and a chocolate crinkle cookie.  The macaroons were moist with crisped edges that tasted like beautifully burnt sugar.  The cookie was like a crisp brownie with powdered sugar.

The offerings were slim but like I said, it was at the end of their night so I wasn't going to complain.  I mentioned this to a friend of mine and he told me that it didn't matter when you went, they would always be out of a few things earlier than one would think.  He did say that the sandwiches were good when they were made properly and not rushed.

For my own edification, I'd like to check out some of their other menu items and see whether or not they are out of things earlier in the day.

I'd give it 1 star, but because I've only tried ONE thing from here, I can't.
Maybe it was just what we got that was terrible.
But I think the Mexican Chocolate Cake is offensive!

We just had it at a friends house, who told us someone had suggested it to them, all 12 of us at the house didn't make it past the first bite or two.

People had different ideas of what could possibly be in it:

    -Rum
    -Cinnamon
    -Dirt
    -Refried Beans?
    -Coke
    -Way too much Allspice

From the reviews, this place seems great - so maybe its just that particular cake that had been ordered.
The cake decoration left much to be desired.

P.S. I should note that we were tasting wedding cake over at Hoffman's Bakery in Kirkland earlier in the day, and felt it was heaven on a fork.

This place was so disappointing.  It looked cute from the outside and we were starving, so we headed in for some lunch.  Bad, bad choice.  We ordered two sandwiches at the counter and sat down to wait.  And we waited and waited.  For forty minutes.  At one point, we went up to ask about them, and the girl at the cashier did NOT apologize but just curtly said, "there are still two orders before yours."

When the sandwiches finally arrived, we were flabbergasted.  After all that time, wouldn't you expect them to be fancy?  No.  Stale, flavorless, white bread with a piece of lettuce and a couple of layers of deli meat.  Some pesto mayo spread.  Not grilled.  Wrapped in a piece of paper.  It was seriously one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had.

In the time we waited, we could have driven to freaking Ballard, bought all the ingredients ourselves, and assembled identical sandwiches for half the price.  What a waste of time and money.  I expect more from Seattle bakeries!

Terrible place.  We will not go back.

The one thing that keeps us coming to Alki Bakery is the chocolate chip cookie.  Hubby things that it is the best he's had- the ratio of chocolate to dough is about perfect in his opinion.  It is chewy, without being too wimpy.  I have to agree.  Minus some stars because I think that a bakery should have better staff.  Today's round of staff cancelled each other out.  One guy was super helpful and explained to the person ahead of us in line the difference between a cappuccino and a latte.  Amazing!  He was patient in explaining it.  The young guy who waited on us was indifferent.  He stared off into space while listening to his co-worker and finally realized that he had to wait on us.  The young blonde seemed like he rather be surfing on this springlike day- anything better than working in super busy Alki Bakery.

Despite the crappy young blonde guy, we'll be back for more of those amazing chocolate chip cookies.  Yep, we are suckers.

Alki Bakery is a nice out of the way spot to hit up in the morning. All I heard about Alki was about the cinnamon rolls, so that exactly and all you should order here. The food menu looked just fine, but we were there for the cinnamon rolls.

At only $2.25 a roll, these were certainly a bargain. Ask for it warmed up and get a glass of ice cold milk, and you are on your way to a sugar rush that will last the rest of the morning. Cinnabon rolls are bigger, but these are lighter, moister, and completely covered in delicious white icing. My friend made the mistake of getting a Chai latte which she was really disappointed in.

Alki Bakery is a little out of the way if you're not in the neighborhood, but the view of Seattle is super sweet. I'd check it out if you have some time to kill in the morning.

Four stars for the sassy. I was on a class trip last year and hit a Starbucks before coming in and the guy behind the pastry display case gave me the evil eye the whole time until I told a much more mild mannered woman behind the cashier counter that I didn't trust baked goods from Starbucks. I sensed they were serious about qaulity, and they were. I had a very good blueberry scone and tried a peanut butter cookie.

Like a lot of places in Seattle that had a wall papered with event posters pertaining to bands and festivals, I'd take your cool little sister or anyone you need to spend some time with.

    Update:
I came in for breakfast on a gray October day and was very pleased at the breakfast fare as well as a few Bakery staples( Eclaires) ebign out and ready as well. It had a very different and quiet atmoshpere. IT was full of morning regulars and sort of exuded peacefulness. But the guy behind the counter ( different guy) treated my order as though I were a particularly difficult McDonalds Happy meal toy on a long assembly line and not the only other person ordering.

After expressing himself theatrically with about five eye rolls every twenty seconds he proceded to forget I wanted OJ and tried to hand me a Scone- it took him a moment to remember. I wouldn't usually mind but as it was puncuated with condescension about how slow he thought I was being- I thought I'd throw it in. I still can't bring myself to remove a star though- as the OJ and Eclaire were both wonderful and the other person working ( the woman who rang me up) was very pleasant and helpful.

I am in love with their chicken cashew sandwich- on a *croissant*!!- if they're out and offer bread alternatives, don't do it- it's just not the same; only a croissant can perfectly compliment the light but hearty chicken salad.  Very good fresh-squeezed oj and spongy bread pudding.  Go with a friend and share dessert (cause you can't pick just one)!

This is NOT one of the scrumptious artisan bakeries that one can find all over Seattle.  It is instead a cheap sandwich shop with "bakery" in the name.  Yes they have some cookies and cakes, but they look a lot like something you would see in the grocery store.  I did not want to buy anything after seeing the display (or lack of display) but I felt bad and bought a chocolate crinkle cookie.  It tasted exactly like boxed brownie mix.  My boyfriend liked it.  But hey who doesn't like boxed brownies, they taste good.  But at $1.60 you could buy the box and make them at home.

Oh how delicious is the taste of non-corporate coffee and pastries!  This shop does a booming business among a throng of not-so-local coffee shops that shall not be named.  They have delicious fruit filled pastries.  Check them out for a lazy moring coffee and paper-  You'll be impressed!

They run out of stuff on a regular basis. Guess they don't take their business very serious.

Besides having a great open atmosphere, fantastic menu items, fresh breads, and espesso coffee that is top-notch you may not find a better place around to find a world-class dessert or the best Cinnamon rolls in town.  With wide open views of Elliot Bay and the incredible people watching that goes with being on the "beach",  grab a good friend or something great to read, get settled in,  and relax.  From doing nothing at all, to spending a couple minutes reviewing the many wall posters advertising local theatre, charity events, art festivals and the like....this is a one of a kind place that is a must stop on Alki!

Okay--the bakery itself is just  good-nice sandwiches, fine coffee and free wi-fi (though getting your food takes a HUUUUUGEE amount of time)--so the bakery itself is 3 or four stars. However, and I mean this with all sincerity, they have the BEST chocolate chip cookies I have had while living in Seattle.  Period.  Go there and get some cookies.  Maybe your mom's are better, I don't know.  But since she probably doesn't have a bakery on alki beach, you might as well just eat these chocolate chip cookies.

They have good food, good drinks, and a nice view. The place can get a little busy on the weekends, but if your options are Starbucks or here, choose here. The walls are covered with nearly every theatre production currently playing, you can plan your evening or grab a window seat and people watch.
