If you're looking for something that is a cut above - with a little more uniqueness and personality - I can't recommend this place enough. This store feels great to be in - it's clean and upscale, and the staff are all great. The designer is also the owner so all the pieces are unique and really nicely done, and she'll consult with you about what you have in mind. Even the window displays always look great! I like to go in here all the time and browse, and several of my very favorite pieces of jewelry are from here. I generally like more simple understated jewelry - which is why I LOVE my white-gold earrings in a leaf pattern from Alix and Company, with the small subtle diamonds embedded in them. But even though I usually am not drawn to the more flashy styles, when I go in here I get converted. They can do big and sparkly with sooooo much class.

Had a terrible experience here, which is sad because the jewelry itself is beautiful. I went with my best friend who was looking for her engagement ring and fell in love with a ring there. She asked for information about the ring and pricing for some adjustments that had to be made for the ring to fit her. A week went by and she never heard anything. We go into the store again and the jeweler, Janet, was not overtly rude but managed to be sour while pretending to be nice. My friend wanted to replace the center diamond with a different cut and Janet did not seem to want to accommodate her, but wrote down her questions and assured us that she would contact my friend to answer her questions about replacing the center diamond. (The center diamond was a rose cut, which looks like a crystal and has barely any refraction- poor design choice for a diamond.)
We never heard back from her. My friend in total went to the store 3 times, asked questions, was promised to get answers, and never heard back. My guess is that Janet didn't take my friend seriously because she's young (in her 20s). Big mistake lady. While my friend loved the ring, we decided to go elsewhere to find better customer service and jewelers who will happily adjust the pieces in the store to make a perfect ring for you. They happily adjust any ring for you WITHOUT charging you (unlike Alix & Co, which charges a fee to adjust anything) and get back to you promptly about any questions you have. They seem sincerely to care that you get the piece of jewelry that you're looking for.
Some advice for you, Janet: it's incredibly easy to recreate your designs. We took pictures of the ring to a number of jewelers who said they could easily make it from scratch for us. Perhaps you should either enhance your customer service and tone down the bitchiness OR stop allowing prospective customers to take pictures of your jewelry, because they WILL take their business elsewhere. -

My husband and I purchased both of our wedding rings from Alix & Co. We incorporated an heirloom diamond that he had inherited, which they set into a "leaf & vine" ring, with rubies along the band. I get constant compliments on it, it's so unique and beautiful. Janet Alix and her staff are real treasures, too. They are all warm, friendly, and welcoming, without being pushy. Like Sasha, my husband and I just came in to look, but were taken in by the gorgeous jewelry and the friendly, helpful people. Four years later, we still love our rings, and we still stop by to say hello to Janet and her staff when we're in town. Definitely check it out if you're looking for something gorgeous for someone special (including yourself!).

I consider myself a jewelry connoisseur, and Alix and Company is like heaven for me. It's a lovely little store in my hometown with breathtaking jewelry. The designs are so incredible -- intricate and so unique. The stones are beautiful too, but the real draw is the graceful designs -- I've never seen nicer ones anywhere. I always stop in there when I'm walking around downtown Mill Valley, and Janet, the designer, and the other ladies who work there are so lovely and make you feel so welcome -- I always end up staying and chatting for a long time.
I've coveted their jewelry for so long, and my husband just bought me a piece as a gift after I had our daughter. It's a gorgeous ring with a flower and leaf motif that they custom made for me. I got to choose the metal and the stones (white diamonds or colored), and ended up with rose gold and white diamonds. They had to alter the design a bit for me to fit my somewhat freakishly narrow fingers, and it turned to be just stunning. It was also a pleasure to work with them and see the piece come together. Check them out if you're in the market for fine jewelry -- their stuff is so incredible that you'll wonder why you ever considered overpriced and generic jewelry like Tiffany or Cartier. -

Janet is AWESOME. husband and I initially went to peruse, just to look, and I ended up walking out of the store, Janet's card in hand, babbling excitedly about the Perfect Ring she was going to create for us! granted, my babbling excitedly isn't all that uncommon an occurrence, but husband was also excited as well. she took the time to hang with us, listen to what we wanted, and basically conjured up a piece of jewelry/art that we adore, and I will treasure. she has such a sweet, unassuming style, and is very prompt with followup. just a darling woman with fabulous jewelry.

Having never been a fan of the bling, I had both myself and my guy stumped at how to go about doing my engagement ring. I came to yelp to see where others had had success. I saw the reviews on Janet at Alix and Co. and decided we should pay her a visit.

I thought I wanted a variety of stacking bands with little or no stones and my guy kept saying, "we could add a center stone to that, right?" It took us numerous visits where we went though our options. Do we use some loose family diamonds or not? How durable and low profile can we make that? Thick band or numerous skinny ones? We were all over the map!
Through the whole process Janet was incredibly patient and realistic about what works with who you are. Her ability to hear what you like, coupled with her artistic abilities and candor made this experience wonderful.
Janet gently guided us to a ring that we both love. She really gets that you both need to feel connected to the ring and the process. I loved that Janet wanted our ring to have some "soul to it." How cool is that! This woman is truly the most stunning jem in the store. The other ladies in the store are equally as sweet and helpful, however, Janet is clearly the Artisan.
Along the way I also had Janet reset a pair of earrings for me. She did a great job with these as well. We are now having her design our wedding bands. I never though I would be so excited about jewelery. But working with Janet and getting to see the end result, a piece of jewelry that is custom to what I like is quite exciting.
I am looking forward to seeing what Janet helps us create for our wedding bands!
