Ali is not your typical yoga teacher. If you are looking to just go sweat it out, you can do that anywhere, with 100 other suitable teachers in the Triangle.
Ali is a yogi.
Her classes are spiritual and uplifting. She meets you where you are and there is no expectation to be anyone that you are not. You won't leave her class feeling like a flunky. In fact, you won't want to ever leave her class because somehow she knows how to tie in physical and emotional strength in the way, I imagine, the art of yoga was intended to be.
She knows the real names for Downward Facing Dog and Child's Pose but she doesn't hold the air of pretentiousness you encounter with some teachers. She's real.
Don't get me wrong, just because she relates so well to us mere mortals doesn't mean she is less than spectacular in her own right.
She just has a knack for making the complex into simple.
If you have the chance to take her class, it's an experience you'll never forget.
No matter what your yogic level is - Ali can meet you there and help you succeed. -

Alison Hinks is an amazing yoga teacher! (not to mention a very talented artist, a passionate dog lover and a hilarious person in general)
First off, she has a great energy! Most yoga teachers seem like healthy, happy people, but Ali carries a special energy through life and into her classes. You can't help but feel it when you're around her and take a little bit of it with you when you leave. Her passion, light and humor shine through as she guides and lovingly assists you through poses and meditation.
Ali teaches power yoga all over the Triangle. Her teaching style allows you to make each class a personalized experience, leaving you open and able to reach whatever levels feel right in that moment. I always leave her classes feeling empowered, balanced and effortlessly confident in my skin. Her classes always have a warm, fun vibe - never competitive or intimidating in the slightest bit! Being one of Ali's students feels like being her friend - she's not afraid to crack jokes or open up about who she is behind the title of teacher. You kinda don't want to leave when it's over. :)
In addition to her Power Yoga classes, Ali has developed a very special kind of yoga which you can't find anywhere else in the area - or maybe the globe! Emotional Rescue Yoga. It's like first aid for your heart. In these classes (and now retreats!) Ali guides her students through the healing process toward a place of balance, acceptance and ultimately happiness. It's everything you want (and nothing you don't) from a yoga class when you're experiencing hardship of any kind. Ali is at her very best in this role, providing compassionate support and sensitive adjustments through a series of comforting, relaxing poses and breathing techniques. I really admire Ali for recognizing a need for this type of practice in her community. This one comes directly from her heart!
If you are looking for yoga with personality, Ali's your lady. And if you want to keep up with what she's doing and saying online (which is often both hilarious and brilliant) check out her blog: http://alisonhinksyoga...

Alison Hinks is truly and sincerely a wonderful yoga teacher. I have been taking classes in yoga since the late '90s and took my first class with her in 2009. I have enjoyed almost every yoga class I've ever taken but there is something really special and fun about Alison's classes. Let me try and count the ways... She is full of yogic energy; you can tell she loves what she is doing while quietly walking around the room, demonstrating a pose, or delivering directions. She is extremely creative; I have practiced some of the best flows in her classes that I haven't done anywhere else. In this way she keeps it challenging and/or different; it's refreshing. She is a great assistant; Alison will gently guide you with either her voice or a firm yet gentle hand. She is smart and witty; she will help you get into a pose by using descriptive words. Sometimes she will read a quote, written by her or someone else, that suits the vibe of the class. She is accepting and understanding; she makes sure that we know that this class is ours and that we need to listen to our bodies and that it's o.k. to make the decision to extend our top hand toward the diamond window or to forgo the headstand and go into child's pose...she's cool with that. She also teaches Emotional Rescue Yoga which is a pretty ingenius idea. I have always thought of my yoga mat as a sort of safe haven a place where I can let my mind and body run free. I haven't taken a full ER yoga class with her but she did a half ER, half flow class once and the ER experience was fantastic. It was like an internal adventure; me, traipsing around in the swamps of my body. It's not often that you really get to look inward like that and it was nice to have a safe place to do that with Alison leading me through it. And finally her blog. If you aren't sure if Alison is the right teacher for you or you're not ready to get on the mat then go on over to her blog at http://www.alisonhinks... where you will get to know her through her writings, and amazing, beautiful yoga charts that she puts together, and her various internet finds. There you will be able to find where and when she'll be teaching. I recommend Bendo at the Zendo at the Chapel Hill Zen Center on 86, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30pm! I'll see you there!
