Curry goat roti..........Nice!!!!
Sorrell.............Nice!!!!
$7.00 for the roti and $3.00 for the sorrell..........Nice!!!!
I Come to Ali's when I am passing through the area. I always get the roti seperate from the meat so the roti doesn't get soggy. It's very tasty, clean tasting and very fresh. It's always seasoned well and not hot, if you want it hot, ask for "pepper" and the homemade pepper will appear! Go light on it because if not................."rah rah like a dungeon dragon, change your lil drawers cause your pants are............"! Yea that stuff is hot, so apply sparingly!
If you want to give some real good roti a try and your in the neighborhood, give Ali's a try. You won't be disappointed!

Somehow it seems like most Trini rotis in New York are made by men named Ali? Or are they all somehow related? My guess is no, as while very tasty, Bronx's rendition is just not on the same level as Crown Heights and Bedstuy Alis.
The food is good, don't get me wrong. Solid Trini bakery. They were out of fish on my visit, so no bakes for me, but the thing that blew me away was the homemade pepper sauce that will completely envelope you. It goes well with everything.
The doubles ($1.50 each) could have benefitted from a tamarind sauce on the side, but the pepper sauce livened them up enough. The shortbread was on par with the best of them, but the curry sauce was unfortunately weak. The doughy goodness of the aloo pie ($1.50) was best with the sauce though, which is perfect for the potato interior. -

My old roti spot closed in Harlem. I searched and searched and searched( honestly I was lazy and didn't want to troop to Brooklyn). And with the help of Yelp and 2 friends from The Bronx I came to Ali's. It's perfect! It's exactly the way I like it! If you are not West Indian( or don't care for spicy foods) I may recommend not having them add the peppers. But all the flavors are good. I'm more particular about the goat and veggie. The ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful. It's worth the troop out. O yeah. Call before you go to make sure they are open.

Run by a nice Trini family. They have all the staples and they cook them quite well - bake and buljol, doubles, aloo pies, excellent roti, buss up shut, and more! If you're planning to pick up a large amount of food, call ahead to place an order (your wait will be much shorted once you reach).
They are not open very late on the weekends- its worth calling before you head over.
