ooo weee I love me some Greek Food. Coming to this little resturant is a special treat indeed. I usually get the Gyro Plate (around $13, a little more if you want extra meat)

Everything is freshly made. The resturant itself is somewhat small, but cozy and intimate. If you prefer taking your food to go, you're gonna have a lovely aroma fill your car.

It's a win-win situation however you do it.

Aside from Big Fat Pita at the Westfield Mall in Culver City, this is as close to Greece as you're gonna get!!

I have to say it: the food is really good here.
Everything is really simple and prepared with love! I think it's the best greek taverna I've tried so far in LA.
Unfortunately I have to give this place 4stars because of the very bad area this place is located and how bad it looks inside!
Also, their POS system has been out of work for months now and everytime I go there they tell me: "I'm sorry but today we are experiencing some problems with the connection so we are not able to credit cards!"
that said: bring CA$H and enjoy it.

I am a fan of this place.

I came here last weekend and ordered food to go. For some reason the credit card machine wasn't working but luckily I had cash on hand. The inside of the place is just regular, not very nice looking, just simple and somewhat old.

However, the food was delicious! I ordered a Gyro with potatoe lemon fries. I've never had lemon potatoes but they were off the hoooook!!! I think they were kind of stingy with the potatoes and only gave me 3, yes 3 wedges, but that's ok since I was already full. I recommend this place, it's very tasty.

    Consistent,
Consistently good yet consistently slow.  I seriously waited about 25 min for an appetizer ( one of 3 tables in the place seated ).  I also waited for my meal.  Sure it was a nice portion but why am I still waiting on my drink ? While enjoying some lamb I realized I'm still waiting on my Tzatziki ! "Check please, we need to catch our flight."

This review is only based off their farmers' market offerings.

Aliki's has had booths at the West LA and Westwood farmers' markets for as long as I can remember. I work in Westwood and try to stop by every Thursday if I can. Here's what I like:

Tzatziki - Thick, creamy, and flavorful, puts the one I try to make on my own to shame
    Parmesan/Artichoke Hummus
    Spinach and Feta Hummus
    Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
    Dolmas

The avocado/cilantro hummus was just okay. But I had to try it because I love avocados so much, I want to marry one. Someday.

They sell all kinds of hummus, spreads, feta cheeses, pita bread, pita chips, olives, and olive oils. The guy running the booth has ALWAYS been nice, friendly, and will offer you samples of anything on a pita chip. Even if you don't ask him for it. He just hands it to you. He can see it in your eyes.

Tubs of just about anything are $4 each or 3 for $10, which is actually a better deal than the supermarket, but a million times better and fresher.

This place is nothing special. There were two Mexican guys cooking and serving when I went. I had the disappointing lamb sandwich. It had 3 small cubes of meat, tons of lettuce and red onions. Basically filler. It was pricey for the portions, $13. I ordered the lemon potatoes as a side and received about 1/4 of a small potato. Didn't expect it to be warm, but it was.

The service lacked for being a slow Monday. The server never came back to ask how my food was. And I had to ask for my check.

    Definitely won't be going back.

I'm gonna say it: best Greek food I've had in SoCal. Aliki's is a sleeper. Humble, modest decor (if you can call it that) but the food is worth  5 stars and more than makes up for lack of ambiance. Killing George's in Long Beach (which was my favorite Greek food spot for years) and Papa Cristo's.

My standard order is the chicken gyro.  The pita is so soft, the chicken so flavorful, fresh tomatoes and greens, a generous amount of delicious onions and yogurt sauce. Just heavenly!

    Lemon potatoes are flavorful...mmmmm...

And I love the owners and staff here. Really nice, genuine people.

    Highly recommended!

I walked over and had a Suvlaki sandwich.  It came with an excellent little greek salad.  The suvlaki was well marinated but slightly undercooked.

I would go back to give them a second shot for sure.   Nice friendly well above MacED's fast food ambiance.  I was really hungry too.

Located near all the rental car lots and the airport, this place seems like it would be busy during lunch because there isn't that many other places nearby, but there was only about 5 of the 15 tables were being used when we visited.  The menu is large.  Has all kinds of items.  I was going to try the basic Gyro, but I was able to see the rotating meat with the heat lamps and saw that it wasn't an authentic Greek gyro meat that is layered and stacked, but it was a big roll of processed meat like SPAM.  The sign out front says Authentic and this roll of meat had me thinking differently.

I changed my mind and went for the Greek Burger which is basically a 1/2 lb burger with feta cheese.  I asked for the burger to be medium and pink in the middle.  It came out well done and was a bit dry.  It almost tasted like the meat was pre-cooked like you would see in your work cafeteria. It didn't have any juices oozing out. The bun wasn't strong enough to hold the burger.  It would compress to the thickness of a pita and then the lettuce and tomato would break through the bun.  If you put the burger down, you might not be able to pick it back up, so you're forced to hold the burger the entire time.  I also had to use my fingers to keep the bun from folding in half while I was holding it.   The fries were good, so they get a star for them.

If I was given only one word to describe and review this place, it would definitely be GREASY!!!!

I've tried Aliki's twice now and both times the dishes were very heavy and greasy!  The whole place has a thicky greasy feel to it and you can see the oil in the walls.  I also had a strong greasy smell in my hair and clothes for the rest of the day.  Clearly, not ideal when you have to go back to work afterwards...

I really wanted to like Aliki's because it's been reviewed so highly on yelp, I'd seen and sampled their stuff at some farmers' markets, and coworkers seemed to come here often.  But, I think it's just too heavy for me and I can't get over the smell that's left afterwards.

If you take all the factors that I listed above out, I'd have to say that the food is average.  If you're near LAX, craving greek food and want something greasy, then this is the place to try.  Also, the place is clearly going for "hole-in-the-wall", so overall I would give Aliki's 3 stars.

I was staying at a hotel near LAX and was laughing after reading the review by Mimi E. so decided to give this little place a try and was happy I did.

From the street this place looks like a dive diner attached to the Motel 8 (which it is), but on the inside you will find a nice server/host waiting to take your order and explain anything to you. If you are getting take out, they have little tubs in a cooler that are cheaper than the menu options if you want some hummus, or this sort of thing to take away (say to a hotel nearby).

So, I had a felafel's sandwich and was very happy with my meal. I ordered it with the lemon potatoes which were served in a small dish. The food was freshly prepared, and tasted great. The felafel's balls were large and crispy and tasted awesome! They have a full Greek menu that has most of the classics you might expect to see in the Greek town places in Chicago (yes, Mimi E. you are right!) or Detroit. If I lived here, I would order food to go to take on the plane (coach, baby, flying coach) or after landing I would eat here and skip the Burger joints.

I travel a lot for business, and I was always looking for a good restaurant near LAX for a pre-flight meal. Aliki's is great for that. Actually, it's great for Greek food anywhere.

I've had a handful of different dishes at Aliki's, all of which were delicious. However, my absolute favorite is the falafel. Definitely the best falafel I've ever had, and the sandwich is plenty to satisfy a large appetite. They also have an amazing hot sauce, which I believe is homemade, that gives an extra zip to everything. You have to ask for it specially.

As far as Greek food goes, Aliki's is great. For something this close to the airport and rental car return, Aliki's is amazing.

After a long flight and an over night lay over in LAX, I thought I would be doomed for a  litany of unappetizing airport food and chain restaurants.  Aliki's Greek Taverna is attached to the Super 8, and from the outside it doesn't look necessarily promising.  I went in and was pleased to find that lots of people were inside dining on a Tuesday night.  Some seemed to be travelers and other locals.

The menu is extensive and has a wide array of Greek dishes.  I was extremely excited to find Vegan Moussaka, one of my favorite dishes from my meat eating days.  I decided to give it a try and it was delicious!  The portion was generous, cooked perfectly, and fresh.  For dessert I tried a piece of their baklava which also tasted fresh and was a great balance between crunchy and soft.

If you are passing by LAX or a local in need of a new Greek restaurant I would give this place a try.  I was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience and it is one of the best Greek restaurants I have been to.

Wow. I didn't think it was possible for Aliki's to get any better, but they did!

The food is as amazing as ever (seriously, their sizzling feta is a necessity and their gyro meat is perfection).

But the wait times that people (including myself!) have complained about? Non-existent. I had said in the past that it was worth the wait- and it was. This most recent time, we came in and the place was full. They added four more tables on the side which is where they sat us. We were assisted almost immediately. After ordering, it was mere minutes for our appetizer. I can't remember getting food that quickly anywhere, despite the fact that the restaurant was full. And our main course came out mere minutes after that- it was actually almost too quick!

We had a question about our meal, something wasn't quite how we remembered it. They said it was right but brought us something to make up for it regardless. Can't beat that kind of service.

Thank you Aliki's, for always providing such amazing food and continuing to make your business even better and caring so much about your customers. They really are family-run/oriented and it shows.

Four stars based on two Gyros. If the quality across the entire menu is as high it's a five-star establishment. Dive of a building/location with good food and a friendly owner. A great LAX staging point or post-flight recovery. Highly reccomended.

I was extremely disappointed with this restaurant - and I love greek food! The service was not great, location was a let down. We were only informed after we had ordered and been there for 10 minutes or so that their credit card machine had been down for days and only took cash or if we wanted to write down our credit card number for a later transaction. The pork kebabs were raw and cold. My husband's plate was somewhat tasty, but all in all, sadly we couldn't get out of that place fast enough.

When I stopped eating meat years ago there were several meat items I COULD NOT give up. With certain embarassment, I would tell people "I don't eat meat...except for hotdogs and gyros." Without fail, people looked at me like I was absolutely crazy. All I could say is that nothing beats a good gyro or a good hot dog. Please stop looking at me like that.

Now, what makes me an awkward vegan - is that sometimes I'll eat meat. I just say I'm a vegan so you dont make me eat something nasty. An apple is never gross, a steak can be. Whenever I'm in a meat eating mood - I usually want this. The gyros here are delicious. Both the chicken and beef/lamb are thinly sliced goodness topped with sauce, onion, lettuce and tomato. Reasonably priced and certainly filling - this is the best gyro LA has to offer. It can even compete with some of the Chicago spots.

I'm in love with this place. Amazing kabobs, amazing lamb, amazing moussaka. My buddy ordered the gyros burger and loved it. Possibly the best falafel I've ever had.  Their pita is so soft and fluffy and warm I want to make a blanket out of the stuff and just sleep in it forever.

Service was friendly, atmosphere is cozy if slightly outdated. The prices are a tad higher than most other Greek places I've been to, but the food is also better, so I don't mind. Wait time can also run a little long, but again, they make everything fresh, so what do you expect.

For dessert, I'd recommend the baklava with a nice little cup of Greek coffee.

I need to try this place again.  The entrees we got (spaghetti with braised lamb and pastitsio) were excellent as was the pita served on the side.  The avgolemono, however, which is one of my favorite Greek dishes, was terrible, in my opinion.  It had the consistency and color of bad Hollandaise sauce and none of the rich chicken, lemon, or egg flavors that it should have.  They have a good variety on their menu, so I'll try something else when I come back.  Good service.

I brought a sandwich to take with me on the plane. You can take either the hertz or Avis shuttle and cross the street next to the super 8 (no taxi required), so much better then airport food, especially america airline terminal.

I just went there on the way home from LAX.  After being away for a Month in a land of fried food... This was an awesome break.

We've been meaning to try this place after falling in love with their farmer's market offerings.

I will warn you, the place does not look nice and it's in a middle of industrial area by LAX.  But it just kind of have a feeling of what I would imagine it to be an authentic Greek family restaurant.  (I've been to Greece a few times but it was looong time ago..)

The staff is nice in a very casual way.

The food is awesome.  I highly recommend the Pastitsio and their hummas.

well, judging by the other mostly positive reviews, we must have gone on a bad day. My husband and I tried this place after I picked him up from the airport, and I was excited to try it because I love Greek food and this place was highly rated, but we were very disappointed.

here were the low points, as there were no high points...
*you have to park in this seedy-looking motel lot next door, with limited space
    * service was slow, 1 server and 1 cook for the whole restaurant while we were there
*food was nothing special, my gyro was pretty bland, hardly any feta, and my chicken was uncooked and pink in the middle, so needless to say I didn't finish my meal. My husband had the chicken souvlaki plate and it was nothing to write home about.
*no alcohol, so don't expect to drink a beer with your gyro

we've dined at Greek restaurants in many states, and this was one of the worst.

holy greek food! i had almost given up on finding a decent greek restaurant in los angeles until a friend turned me onto aliki's in westchester. it was described to me as a "hole in the wall", which in a sense is fitting, so when i sat down with the menu i found that it was little pricier than i had expected.

i wouldn't exactly say the restaurant is a hole in the wall... it's definitely a smaller place that has the feel of an old american-style, family owned diner. add a few greek tourism posters on the wall with the wafting smell of rich greek food and you've got aliki's.

when we went on a saturday night there was no wait. parking was a breeze - free on the street right outside of the restaurant. and service was quick.

the food was amazing. on a whim we ended up ordering the sizzling feta, which i highly recommend everyone tries at least once. it was pure yummy, salty, feta goodness. i don't know where they get their pita, but it was sooo soft and served warm right off the grill. we didn't want to spend too much on dinner, so we opted for the dolmades as an appetizer and got a couple of gyros to fill us up. i will definitely be going back the next time i'm craving greek food.

There aren't many decent food options near LAX and I was so glad I found Aliki's. Mom and I stopped by on our way from the airport and ordered 1 pork souvlaki sandwich to share. Whatever the table next to us ordered looked fabulous.  We had a satisfying meal and left for our next destination in a reasonable amount of time.

I do have to point out that the place doesn't look that great and it was hot outside but there was no A/C inside.

Good stuff! They have an extensive and pretty authenthic Greek menu ... even the salads come in the American version and an authentic Greek versionw ithout the romaine lettuce. I've only ordered the salad there before and a small salad with gyro comes out to about $10 ... pretty pricey considering it's only the size of a side salad, topped with gyro. Without gyro, the side-salad-sized salad is already $5.95.

Brother always orders the gyro sandwich with lemo potatoes, and halumni cheese appetizer. I've tried it and the flavors were well done also! Service can be a tiny bit slow, but we always get in and out within 40-45 minutes.

When I walked inside this restaurant I got the impression that I was in "Anafiotika", neighborhood  in the center of Athens under the Acropolis. Their welcoming attitude definitely made a nice impression too. The gyro plate left me literally grinning from ear to ear. I cannot remember the last time I had such a wonderful meal. I had seen it numerous times driving by and finally decided to drop in. Maybe I was there on a bad day or something, or maybe they didn't like my looks, but the service was lacking. I waited 25 minutes for a gyro burger while watching people that came in after me get their meals. They just have to slice the meat off of the spit and put it on  a bun, right? It was advertised as 1/2 pound of meat, but could not have been more than 3-4 ounces. The burger with fries, tea, and a small salad came to $19. To add insult to injury ,the meat was dry and very lukewarm, almost cold. I will not be going there again

I think this place is close to getting 4 stars, but my one experience there dropped me down one level.

I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, after getting a wonderful massage at I'm Thai spa.  There were a few people in there finishing their lunch.

I was seated at the rear of the restaurant.  Mind you, this location is a converted diner.  There are a bunch of small tables, some set up singly, others in groups.  All have blue and white tablecloths.  (Of course!  Greeks love blue and white, according to My Big Fat Greek Wedding.)  There were pictures of different locations in Greece on the walls.  A refrigerator near the entrance was full of small plastic containers of food.

I asked my waiter (who I later overheard say he's the owner's son) about some appetizers.  He recommended the falafel.  I also ordered a gyro plate.

After several minutes of torturous conversation from a nearby table, one couple left the restaurant.  I was hoping for a little quiet, but two older ladies entered and filled the void in irritating conversation.  (That dropped one star, even though there was nothing the restaurant could do to prevent that, but it was enough to destroy my dining experience.)

The falafel came.  The plate was much larger than I had anticipated.  It also came with a little hummus.  Both needed some salt, but the hummus was very creamy and the falafel were perfectly cooked.

My gyro plate came and I wished that I hadn't ordered the falafel.  The plate was huge.  A nice little salad with red onion, feta and olives.  It was lovely.   The pita was thick and spongy, not the thin dry kind I'm used to.   There was a rice with herbs in it.  It was moist, but I didn't eat much, since I had eaten so many falafel.  The gyro meat was a healthy pile with a dollop of delicious tzatziki in the middle.  The meat, however, had all the salt that the falafel and hummus were missing!  It was quite salty.  I got up and found the waiter and asked for some lemon.  The addition of lemon totally worked.  (The oversalting an undersalting both led to the loss of the other star.)

There are many more items on the menu I want to try.

This place is incredible.  I wandered in one day while I was at a conference near the airport.  I was only trying to avoid Burger King; I was not expecting to eat the best sandwich I've ever had: the eggplant gyro.  It was DELICIOUS!  The staff didn't say much to me until after I ate.  Then they asked it I enjoyed my meal.  When I expressed just how much, they told me all about the menu and its inspirations.  I could tell they really love what they do.  I can't recommend this place enough.  I live near downtown and I would drive to LAX at rush hour to have that sandwich!

Obviously you can never do better than home cooked. This place is pretty good actually. I was quite impressed.

I came with a friend and we did family style dining.

    We had:

    1) Saganaki- On point. Crispy and flavorful. I felt there was no need for tomatoes.
    2) Horiatiki Salad- Great. Just the way it should be.
    3) Tyrokafteri- Spicy feta dip was good.
    4) Keftedes- Wonderful and meaty. Reminded me of my aunt's. (A must-try!)
    5) Octopus- Not good. Tasted too rubbery and canned.
    6) Lamb in the oven- Flavorful, in slices, garliciky, and hit the right lemon notes. The potatoes had a little too much lemon and the green beans were not good at all.

Had my visinada ( sour cherry drink) like I do in Greece. I would stop by again.  You guys should too.

One of my favorite Greek places in LA.  Their sandwiches are beautiful.  Great selection all around.

Haven't been here for a while, actually just started going back.
Cod sandwich was so good I wanted to stab somebody.

Literally the best Greek food out of Greece! This Greek Tavern is filled with the freshest ingredients and the most amazing flavor to dance in your mouth! Completely filling without that over full sick feeling that one might get from other places. This is the kind of food I imagine a little Yiayia (Greek grandmother) making in her own kitchen.

I have eaten here now 3 times and plan to come back for more. I love that it has been months apart that I have come and regret that I have not come more for this food!  Each time the experience was delicious, wonderful, inviting and worth the wait for freshness! The place is small and part of a hotel, don't let the area or look deceive you go in sit and let the friendly staff make you feel welcomed. Be sure to try the desserts!  You will not regret that you have tried this place out!

Let me start by saying that if I could give them 2 1/2 stars I would but I will round up in this case because once again I got the food to go and you have to expect a bit of culinary degradation to occur due to the time between the kitchen and your pallet and a bit for your food having to spend time in close contact with styrofoam.  This is my justification and I think it wold stand up to scientific scrutiny.

Upon entering the restaurant we walked up to what we thought was the counter but was actually the food pass out area and saw a plate of what looked like a Greek Spaghetti in Meat Sauce. It looked really good and we asked the server what it was and she showed us on the menu that it was their Greek Macaronada. Sounds good right? but 13.95 for some pasta and meat sauce? Uhm not so much. At least not for my lunch budget.

So I went back to the menu and focused on the sandwiches. My coworker ordered a Gyro with a Greek salad  and based on the menu description I ordered the Gyro Burger for my side i ordered the lemon potatoes based on the yelp reviews. What you don't read in the reviews is that as a side order they basically give you two medium sized potato wedges. maybe about a 1/4 slice of a medium to small sized potato.

My point being is that they do not give you enough potatoes. You get basically what amounts to 2 steak fries.http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Pk1m_Wnhw3wgD -GIuGfTxA?select=QfIDsDC1whg6HGn-kJyCsw The lemon fries were basically sauteed in olive oil, garlic and lemon. Good but as you can see from the picture it could hardly be called a side. I will add that the gyro had a bit of a funky after taste. Not sure if it was the meat or the bun and I think it needs to be mentioned that the sandwich and two fries with NO DRINK came out to $9.82 not worth it.

Maybe I just caught them on a bad day but in my humble opinion this is not a 4 star location.

    Yum!

It's been a while since I've been in LA so I turned to my dining companion down here for lunch. I searched Yelp for a place close to my hotel and Aliki's caught my eye.

I ordered the gyro plate since it's the standard plate I use to compare restaurants. Our server was suuuuper friendly and so was the woman who sat us. He recommended a bunch of plates and the lamb souvlaki stood out. Since I had a craving for the gyro plate before getting here I ordered it so I wouldn't feel any regret. I will definitely be back to try the lamb souvlaki.

The gyro plate is definitely a great choice! The portion was hearty and there was so much flavor in everything. I liked that they didn't just throw a bunch of greens on the plate with a little meat. There was definitely a good even proportion of meat and veggies.

At 11:40 the place was empty and by 12:30 there were maybe 2 or 3 other tables occupied. I'm glad it didn't get crowded because the tables are really close to each other.

    Will be back for sure!
