Review from Tracy joy K.
San Jose, CA
I literally grew up at this place... When I was young, my family literally drove here from San Jose almost every weekend to eat here. As a filipino, it is really hard for me to find a filipino cuisine place that satisfies me but this place really does have a special place in my heart.
The parking for this place can get a little tricky and the place doesn't look appealing but the food is SO GOOD. Filipino dishes for me are all about the "Timpla" or mix/sauce. There is something about their sauces and mixture of flavors in the dishes that are just perfect. They rival any cooking from a filipino mom or grandma (maybe not the sentimental value but the taste would give any filipino cuisine a run for its money)
There was an old couple that used to work here and the food was a whole lot better. One day when I went there during my break from college they had recognized me from when I was a little girl that came here. Now that they are retired the food isn't exactly the same but this place still gets a 5 for all the memories I have of it.
If you aren't familiar with Filipino Cuisine I would recommend a couple dishes...
- Sinigang: a sweet/sour soup that is great with pork on top of some rice, amazing for a rainy/typical San Francisco weather day
- Bistek: a blend of flavors give the beef a little something, here they make it just right with an amazing melt in your mouth texture
- Kaldereta: a beef spicy stew, my personal favorite
Did I mention the price is CHEAP and they give you a good portion of food? :) -

Used to be good. Now, not so much.
The bistek, my personal favorite here, has lost some of its flavor over the years. Generous helpings at a reasonable price though. It's worth a try. -

I've been a big fan of Alido's for many years. I especially like to order half trays of bico and their cuchentas. Try their pancit bihons for parties, too. Bert is a great guy there, and is very reliable. Order food there for your parties. Delicious, and not greasy. And their pancits are loaded with good stuff unlike some of the other places.

My family and I used to come to this place a lot! They have a great selection of Filipino and it all tastes great! The staff is really nice and friendly.
The place sometimes had sticky tables/floors (1 star gone).
All in all the place serves up some great Filipino food and I believe that I am due back for a visit. (Maybe I'll update my review after my following visit.) -
Review from ABBY A.
I came here for a private event and the food made me sick. It was buffet-style, and the food actually wasn't bad, however I felt nauseated as soon as I finished eating. So although this place has a lot of potential, Abby A. will not be returning.

South San Francisco, CA
I've always driven by Alido's and today I saw a $3.99 lunch ad, can't beat that! Although I got the $6.99 lunch instead. It's a hole in the wall place buy it is good. I've come back a couple more times since I last visited.

I was introduced to Alido's sometime in 2004 and I will love it until my arteries clog up. True that the Filipino cuisine is high in fat and carbs but damn is it good.
Alido's has two locations in South San Francisco one on Callan Ave and one on El Camino right across from South City High. The one on El Camino is the one I go to. The older gentleman and his wife are super friendly and never disappoint you when fixing your meal. They sure pile it on! They are not shy at all giving you big portions. Two scoops of rice and two dishes for $6.99 are pretty good for the sizes. My favorite dishes here are (pardon the Tagalog) Sinigan, Beef Stek, and Mechado. You cant go wrong with Mechado. Big pieces of tender beef marinaded oh so perfectly in a tomato stew sauce with chunks of potato carrots and bell peppers. Very delicious, oily but delicious. Mix it a bit with your white rice and make your taste buds do the happy dance during lunch. The Beef Stek is beef marinaded with soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and onions. Simple ingredients and big taste. Might be salty at times but again mixed with rice you will do the happy dance. This is one of my favorite Filipino eaters next to Fil-Am and Sinugba I know!Listed in: My Neighborhood, Filipino Eats!

Oops, I posted this review for the SSF location, which I've never been to, but I'm sure it is as great as the El Camino location. Review follows:
"I love this place. All the hot food much much better than Goldilocks on the hill in South SF. I love: pinukbet, with cooked pumpkiny vegetable, slimy okra, addictively bitter bitter melon, diced chicharron and bagoong alamang. ALSO! their binagoongang alamang is sooo damn good. I get sad when I go there and they don't have it. Get an extra side of bagoong for your rice. If you're a whitey like me and are down with home cookin' style Filipino food and don't care much about the effects of fat, cholesterol etc. on your health once in a while, then this is the best place I've found that the peninsula has to offer. When I got to-go food, Grandpa said, "This isn't for you. This for your wife." and I laughed and said "No, no, its for me, I swear, I'm not married," and he shook his head. OH the pork menudo is also delicious. They put these sort of soft-boiled quail eggs in it, I don't know if that is standard in Filipino menudo, but hooray, yummers. It is also fantastic with a side of bagoong. I'm going there tomorrow after work for dinner." -

San Francisco, CA
I should've posted my comment years ago before the old couple retired. Their food was great and I loved coming here. I kinda miss them. Foods not as good as before, and now the selection isn't as good either since the older lady retired. She used to do all the cooking (karekare, beefsteak, torta, etc). We recently got some food and it wasn't as tasty anymore. Still good though :)
