A buddy of mine got an Audi S5 and what better way to test out the his adaptive headlights than to drive to dinner at Alice's!
We all had different burgers and man it was all good! I like the homey feeling here and it seems like a lot of regulars stop by.
Thanks Alice's having such great food out in the boonies! haha!

Second time I've made my way here......both times were after riding Skeegs on a Saturday afternoon.
This seems to be a motorcycle, mtn. bike or road bikers pit stop.
Definitely greasy diner food with a family feel. Both times I was here the staff and customers were pleasant to be around. I really liked the vibe.
I am only rating it 4 stars because it isn't normally the type of food I like but I sure did mauh it down like I haven't eaten in years, lol! Mind you that's after 4+ hours of straight riding....
Can't remember what I had the first time I was here but the second time was a cheese burger with avocado and fries. The burgers are pretty awesome, I am not going to lie....
The ride there & back is all part of the experience, usually eat before going up there as this time of year, it gets a little crazy.
Normally grab a coffee at the little convenience store across the street, hang out, talk bikes with folk you have never met, and generally enjoy the moving bike show.
The food at Alice's is OK, not great, not bad...'honest' food is how I would describe it. My friend & I had breakfast & coffee one morning there, and it was under $20.00
If you go during the weekend, watch out for the lunatics on sportsbikes treating the road as a racetrack.
Alice's!
Funny, I finally came here and it wasn't on a motorcycle.
I am digging into my memory banks. About 6 months ago, I had an IT event to attend at a nearby winery. The only food they had was costco fruit and some other snacks that really didn't go with wine.
The Y!'s that came with me were hungry after a few hours of mingling and wine tasting. One of the guys suggested we try Alice's nearby. I couldn't wait to try!!
We were all indecisive about which beer to have so the sweet waitress brought us samples. I had a bowl of chili and garlic fries. I recall being a bit hung over hahah so this was the food I needed to perk up and get over wine headache I had. Hang over + wine tasting the next day DO not mix!
The food did the trick! My friends burger looked yummy and I vowed to come back again to have my own.

Alice's appears through the trees like an oasis along Hwy. 35 after having built up an appetite following a long day of hiking and beach combing. Their wide selection of burger selections cunningly named after various motorcycle models, and lightly seasoned crispy fries paired up perfectly with the local beer beer they serve perfectly chilled on draft.
The onion rings were served a little greasier than I'd prefer given I didn't have a hangover at the time, and that the hamburger buns tasted straight from Costco. Other than that, the whole dining experience really hit the spot and I'm looking forward to a return visit.

I actually don't think you can get ANYTHING there...but close, and I'm pretty sure it's not by a railroad track....but i digress!
Big portions of diner food. Always super busyt and a lot of bikers on the weekend due to the location i suspect...t.aking a scenic sunday drive . Standard burgers, sammies and big ol breakfasts. Big patio in the front for those beautiful sunny days. Worth the trek for the whoe experience
Nice place to eat a late breakfast after having a nice drive through the hills. The wait staff was nice and the food was excellent. I had blueberry pancakes that were to die for. Even just the basic eggs and sausage were pretty good. I recommend this place any day of the week.
Alice's is a Bay Area institution - one of those places off the beaten path that locals drop by every now and then, and visitors should put on their list of things to do in the Bay Area.
The drive along Skyline Blvd has phenomenal views, the outside deck at Alice's lets one contemplate the history of the area. The reviews here address the motorcycles and crowded situation on the weekends - but did you know the place is nearly empty on a Thursday night and there is live acoustic music?
And they have 6 - count 'em 6 - Local beers on tap!

I'm judging this place not only by the food and service, but also by the refreshing and relaxing drive/ride away from the city. When you need a moment to yourself, drive here and enjoy the secludedness and wonderful views.
I came here on a slow day, and didn't have to wait for my meal. The food was solid and the people were very welcoming. =)
This is a great place to get some food when your out riding the bike. Motorcycle that is. i'd never recommend driving up there, between motorcyclists and bicyclist the drive would suck. But the food here would make the journey worth it. Service can be pretty prompt, they wait on a bright and sunny day may take a while. But once again always worth it.

Yes, Alice's is a fun spot to drive to, look at all the motorcycles, be worried about hearing loss with all the pipes blaring their Harleyness, and get away from the urban sprawl. Food and service have rapidly declined however, and during a weekend brunch/lunchtime 10:30-3 p.m. you can expect to wait for a spot to sit as well as whatever you order. Stick to basics - or what you know you like. I veered off the path and opted to get a breakfast dish the last time we stopped through. Not only did the meal take 48 minutes to arrive as we warmed up after the especially chilly motorcycle ride, but the contents were cold. Nothing like cold eggs when you want to warm up. The 2 guys had steak and eggs - came out overcooked yet cold too! We told the overextended young waitress and she snatched the plates up to "reheat" I guessed. Well, they came back cold again about 10 minutes later. Needless to say, we left without eating the meal. I've had a decent burger here, some good fries, and a partially stale bag of Lays potato chips :) Timing is crucial at Alice's. As other reviewers have wisely noted, service, food, and time waiting for food fluctuate dramatically depending on who's working, who's cooking, and who's already sitting down.
Our last occasion at Alice's was by far the most disappointing experience in 5 years. It's made me teeter between actually wanting to go back for a pitstop or continuing on right past it.
The shop across the street where most of the bikes park has a mean ice cream sandwich if you're in a pinch :)

there is no better bike destination in the bay area. nestled in the redwoods, they have great burgers, their garlic fries are to die for.
Plus? gas station and gift shop?
Plus? friendly wait staff?
Plus all the bikes you could feast your eyes on.
Whenever pals from out of town come to visit? this is always a destination.
My first time there was great. Food and service was great. It's been about a year since then.. Food id still great. Never been disappointed. The service... 1/3rd is great, 1/3rd is acceptable and 1/3rd stinks. If you have the time and patience, it's totally worth it. The best days to go is during the weekday when there's hardly anyone there. During the weekend it can get extremely busy.
I first went to Alice's in the Summer of 1986 when I was seven years old and I've been a loyal patron ever since. Though things have changed alot since the first pit stop on my first ride on my Dad's Harley Low Rider (i.e. Helmets Requirements) few things have changed here. Its still the best pit stop on Hwy 35 and any avid biker will tell you the same. Don't be put off by the fact that bikers hang here. They are very friendly and this place is as popular today for yuppie families and death-wish having bicyclists (these guys are f*ckin crazy) as ever. The food is great and as their motto says you really can get anything you want. This is one Bay Area landmark worth visiting! The drive itself should be enough of an excuse. Be sure to stop in the gas station next door and pick up one of their Steve McQueen t-shirts. The only thing that will make you cooler is a Bullitt Mustang to go with it!

Heavenly! I have always liked Alice's, but I seem to forget about it...it's so far from my home. Today we were out on a drive for the day, and we made a point to go there! Everything from the service to the yummy food we had was perfect! They even had a special little 'meal' for our dog (a plain burger on a plate) while she sat happily under my feet on the porch!
I love having a place to go with our pup...we will so be back!

This is an excellent place to eat after hugging the ginormous redwood tree down the highway and poking a banana slug with a stick. Which I may or may not have done. After peeing next to a tree. Anyway! I love nature!!
What's cooler than a semi-secret spot where real bikers hang out (not like that poseur bar Zeitgeist) that's in the middle of the forest, and named after the Arlo Guthrie song?! Go on a sunny day and sit on the large wooden deck. And order one of their house-made microbrews cuz they're damn good. I think I had the California Sunshine beer, which was perfect. Light, golden, and a little hoppy.
The burgers are all named after motorcycles: Harley, Suzuki, etc. I ordered the BMW, which is not as bourgie as it sounds. I think it had blue cheese and avocado and bacon on it. So it's rich as in heart-cloggingly RICH, not rich as in "all BMW drivers are self-entitled assholes." You dig? The onion rings I ordered on the side were some of the best I've ever had.
Minus one star because our waitress, while nice enough, moved at a glacial pace. We sat there for 20 minutes before she even came to take our drink order, forgot our ranch dressing, and this was AFTER the busy lunch crowd cleared out. And my ADD-addled brain can only stare at pretty trees and crotch rockets for so long, nowhumsayin?

Come for the bikers, stay for the, well, decent food at a restaurant with lots of awesome bikers. And bikes. Do not touch them; that is bad biker jubjub.
You may be glad to learn that many of the bikers are not of the rape-and-pillage-Hell's-angel persuasion, but rather the "I wear a crocs to work and listen to books on tape" persuasion, in disguise.
The food's fine; simple diner fare that's nothing to email home about but nothing to get in the way of the great setting either. Sitting there at the top of Skyline in the midst of a fog bank rolling in, you really do appreciate the local color and natural splendor that make this place mighty fine for spendin the day.

Great spot! It's so beautiful up there and this place has a great, relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon after a hike. I'm a big fan of their grilled ham and cheese sandwich--nothing fancy, but yummy!!! Great place to take the kids too.
FUN! I just went here last Sunday after a nice hike in Woodside.
Alice's restaurant is like a slice of "Bay Area Backroads" California history. Is it 2007 or 1957 here?
If you don't like motorcycles - especially Harley's, don't come here....the rumbling of motorcycles will drive you completely batty and distract you from your meal. But if you're like me, and somewhat of a speeddemon-daredevil at heart, the plethora of motorcycles in the parking lot may spark your sense of rebellious adventure.
Oh yah, and the food is quite good and reasonably priced too. :)
Too bad the service is a little inconsistent. We sat at the counter and it took FOREVER to get our beverages and order taken....
Biker Haven would also be an appropriate name. There is no violence, that is only in the Hollywood movies.
The first thing that caught my eye whiling pulling into the lot are the motorcycles. You got cruisers to sportbikes. Suzukis, Yamahas, Kawasakis, Ducatis, and cruisers such as Harleys and BMWs (I am not familiar with cruiser bikes) take up more parking than cars.
Other cars I seen on the road or nearby business are a few 240sx, miata, s2000, and '86 corolla. I also caught sight of a Lotus as they were leaving the lot. There is only one reason why these cars and bikes congregate around this area, the canyons.
Alice's Restaurant is located in the middle of nowhere for most, but in the center of action for many canyon runners. The twist and turns of the roads attract many to Alice's for a meal or a break.
I came here with a small group of friends from a DYK event. After a wonderful and successful 11 mile hike, we decided that we should treat ourselves to some good food. No one was disappointed at Alice's. Everyone ordered burgers and a large order of onion rings and garlic fries for the group. Everyone was complimenting the onion rings and garlic fries as well as their burgers.
As I was scanning the menu for a savory meal, I notice the name of the burgers are motorcycle brands. I though to myself if there were any hardcore bikers who are so proud of the brand of their bike that they refuse to eat a different named burger. Since I am not a biker I just looked at the ingredients to decide. The Tsunami Burger got me curious about its turkey patty. So, that is what I order along with an Iced Tea.
The drinks came first. After losing a lot of fluids through my pores, I was happy to see a cup of iced cold tea. Wow, was my reaction after my first sip of the tea. It was good enough that I did not even say "Wow" out loud but rather in my head because I was already taking a second sip to verify. After confirmation, I was telling my friends that the tea was good. Alice's have to put another adjective in "Iced Tea" on their menu. I was expecting a Lipton because that was the norm, but there was something else in the tea. I do not know what it was but it was refreshing.
The Tsunami burger was good. I do not really know how to describe the burger. It was not bad. It has a turkey patty, buns and various hamburger vegetables. Let's just say I do not mind coming back to pay 8 dollars for another one.
K this review is getting long. So if you even get this far, here is my piece of advice. After a riding or driving through a few canyons, you must stop by Alice's for a refreshing Iced _________ Tea or a beer. Also have a meal while you are there and drive and ride safe.

Unfortunately Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins were not there to greet us at the restaurant on the set of "The Edge." For a secluded area, this place was the "Cheers" of the woods. There were about 30 bikers all meeting up in this little spot. The cool thing is there were also about 20 cops, who were taking away the freedom of a miscreant Meth head who was hitting folks with a pipe!
The service was terrible. Not sure what was in their cool aid, but I was with Cyrus and they combined slow food, with missed orders and forgetting to charge us for drinks.
The food itself wasn't half bad. I did like the food being named after basically all of the different types of tough bikes who frequent the establishment. BMW, Harley Davidson, Yamaha, you get the picture.
I got the BMW, not because I drive a "BigMouthWoman", but because it had Lee/Perrins, 'rooms (hopefully not from the forest) and bacon. The burger itself was meaty, but the usual super thick burger I love.
The onion rings were awesome even though they came out about 20 minutes late.
I guess with NO other options around, its a pretty neat joint and in a really scenic area.

ATMOSPHERE: My kind of place! Where else can you sit outside on a huge wooden patio and have a satisfying burger after exploring the lovely Filoli and rub elbows with leather clad biker men under the gorgeous redwoods in sort of the middle of nowhere? Reason #4223 on why I love the Bay Area.
FOOD: My 1/3 lb sirloin burger was perfectly cooked. Served up simple with cheddar, red onions, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and a shmear of mayo, yellow mustard, and ketchup. The beer battered onion rings were awesome and a major brownie point - non-greasy! They came with a side of ranch. The garlic fries didn't satisfy a garlic lover like me on the garlic scale, but they were still pretty decent. The bf ordered a microbrew and a burger with sausage AND bacon (seriously, all it was missing was a fried egg) and enjoyed both. Oh, and I asked for extra pickles and was delighted when the friendly waitress brought back a whole plate full. They sure aren't skimpy here!

I'm not sure you can exactly get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant, but if what you want is a nice place to sit outside and have a pleasant lunch along Skyline in the beautiful San Mateo county coastal foothills, then you're in business.
Situated at the intersection of Highway 84 and 35 (Skyline Boulevard), the top of Skyline is bikers' Nirvana on summer weekends. And, when I say bikers, I mean both kinds, but mostly I mean motorcycling enthusiasts. Alice's is located on the north-west side of the intersection, and has a lovely sunny deck for eating while sheltered within some redwood trees all around.
The food is solid but not spectacular. For my money, this is all about the easy-going vibe. Good for kids, this place is casual with diner/pub food on the menu. A nice place to enjoy a salad or sandwich and a cold Sierra Nevada.

Their juicy burgers are delicious-- they are sooooo juicy that my Le Mans practically dripped through my fingers and onto the basket. The fries were great too!
This place is a standalone place in the woodsy semi-windy road so you kinda have to make a mental note and not to miss it...
Love this place. They are known for their burgers, but I really like their salads (mahi salad and shrimp ceasar are great). Weekend breakfasts are highly recommended as are the onion rings and garlic fries. It is a great place to stop if you are touring Skyline and the redwoods, or if you are heading to the coast. Located at the interesection of Skyline (Hwy 35) and Woodside Road (Hwy 84). About 10 minutes from downtown Woodside and 25 minutes from Palo Alto.
If you ride this is the place.
It was Saturday and I had the morning off. So I decided I'd grab my trusty steed and proceeded on a tour of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Rides like this one always reminds me how lucky I am to live in this part of the country. After riding the 35 for an hour or so I arrived at the 35/84 junction and there it was, the MOTORCYCLE MECCA.
There were touring bikes, sport bikes, Harley's and cruisers. The funny thing was all of the riders seemed to have parked their bikes according to category.
Alice's is a quaint little place, with ole skool american fare. The food was yummy and well priced. If you are a rider and you are looking for a pitstop, make Alice's one of your stops. It will be well worth your time.

The Bottom Line: This is not a four star restaurant on its own. However, when combined with the drive, the setting, and the history it is at least a four star experience.
The Drive: I stumbled across this place like an oasis in a desert. I had gone a "short drive" to kill some time (I had a rented 2007 Mustang so I had to drive it) and got lost. I saw this place and stopped in for food and directions.
The Food: I had the polish sausage grilled sandwich and a strawberry dessert crepe. Both were satisfying and tasty. The price came to $13 which included a glass of the organic root beer. The sandwich tasted home made. Which in this case is very good! It tasted like a custom made sandwich made just for me. The crepe tasted like a Saturday morning treat. I loved it!
The Service: Two of the most friendly people I have ever met were working the place. I don't know their names but it was a guy and a lady. They were both friendly and welcoming and made you feel right at home. The food was made quickly and correctly the first time.
This is one of those legendary places that definitely lives up to the legend. The drive there is stunningly beautiful, the history of the place is palpable, the food is tasty. I'm going back the next time I'm in town.
After many years of riding past this place, hanging out across the road from this place and generally wondering what this place was like, I eventually got to eat there about 18+ months ago (yeah, I know, review is a little late) with a bunch of co-workers on motorcycles.
This place could serve grilled botulism and would still get two stars 'cos the journey to and from the place would earn a star each.
I'd been told that the thing to get here was one of the burgers, and they had a good selection. I can't remember which one I picked now (18+ months later), but everyone in our group picked a one of the burgers and everyone enjoyed their choice.
It was a nice non-summer day, so there was no fog and we got to sit outside, bench race, enjoy the burgers and then head back to the office via a different scenic route than the one that got us there.
Gotta love three hour lunch breaks where one of the participants is your boss's boss and you get to ride motorcycles.

Alice's restaurant is an amazing place located on an amazingly fun to drive road, probably the reason that it attracts so many bikers. Outside on a nice day you're sure to find a tonne of motorcycles, the majority of your Hog variety, but sports bikes, scramblers, and enduro models will not feel too out of place. Some nice big picknic tables outside allow you to gaze over the sea of chrome as you enjoy your burger, and take in the local color of which there is plenty. Burgers feature heavily on the menu, and there is a type of burger for most big brands of motorcycle, I had a BMW which had bacon, cheese, mushrooms, and strangely came with worcestershire sauce, I say strangely because that is a distinctly English condement. BTW for you Americans that have a problem with that word it's pronounced - Worstersher sauce, easy.
I just noticed yelp's new categorization and for Attire I was tempted to put Formal - Jacket Req...leather that is :-)

We just went here tonight for dinner. The seating is a less than ideal, but eh. This place has ambiance a go-go; woodside ambiance, that is. We'd just taken a ride in the convertible down to La Honda and were on the way home to get burgers. My husband, surprisingly got The Hog burger, which actually looked disgustingly fattening. I got a turkey burger and asked for salad instead of chips, but they said they couldn't do substitutions. Annoying, since it was a bag of Lay's. I could understand if it was bulk chips bought super-cheap...
Anyway, go here. It's cute and nicey.

THE JOURNEY:
The ride, the atmosphere, the people, and the food... all good. The adventure is half the fun. During the day you tunnel through the woodsy road of trickling light through redwood forest trees. The smells of the redwoods fill the air. There are some points of the road that open up to see the San Mateo Bay and the the open half moon bay ocean when you come from San Mateo Bridge and make a left on Skyline Boulevard.
Nestled at the cross roads of (hwy 84) La Honda Rd and skyline Boulevard is the famous Alic's Restaurant mostly to bikers of all kinds. (La Honda Rd continues on to Cabrillo Hyw 1 and ends at the Gregorio State Beach --from there you can go right up HWY to Half Moon Bay and back up (hwy 92) to do a full loop. I haven't done that part yet).
THE FOOD & WINE:
We started with tender Calamari appetizer and happen to catch the tail end of wine tasting, so the owner introduced us to a new wine he will be featuring. Ironically my guest was a wine consular, she enjoyed the sophisticated selection. We were to late for the breakfast menu (darn I'll have to go back). So I had a chicken sandwich with tomato basil. Yummy. My friend had a prim rib sandwich thin cut-with no bread witch I got to steal a bite and wish I had ordered it myself.
The seating out side is on huge weathered picnic tables. with the view of the road surrounded by redwoods. I will be posting photos soon.
Before we headed out we picked up a few tee shirts next door at Alice's Station witch has sodas, tee's, gas and espresso for the road. It's not a typical coffee shop but it's a decent cup of coffee.
I love this place. I hadn't been there before but some friends had gone. After spending 2 weeks eating nothing but camp food Alice's was heaven on earth. I had an amazing burger and loads upon loads of appetizers. Those onion rings were remarkable. I remember seeing the bill after we were all done. It easily moved into 4 digits. But we were there for a long long time chowing down. and there were alot of us.
We now go every year at the end of camp. It has become tradition.

Alice's serves breakfast until 2pm.
This place is nestled in the hills of a quaint Woodside. Though it's only about 20 minutes away, its scenery is a far cry from the madness of the Peninsula and the South Bay. As wet, foggy and dreary as it was, I thought it was the perfect setting for the locale. I felt like I was in a whole different town, with the local folk meeting with one another to chat over a cup of coffee and toasted English muffins. On the other side of the spectrum, hikers, tourists, and motorcycle enthusiasts travelling on Skyline stop here to rest. We opted to dine out on the covered patio which overlooked a sprawling lawn surrounded by coastal redwoods.
The omelettes are fab, and the service is great. I'd definitely come here again and try their burgers.

After our last hike we ate a good meal here which totally primed me for craving another meal at Alice's while on our second DYK hike (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
On our 8.8 mile - up /down - cold /hot - hike on Saturday--the last 1/10 of a mile was all about getting to Alice's to eat, drink hot chocolate and feel that post hike elation.
This is stick to your ribs very satisfying food. Had the hot chocolate with whipped cream to accompany both visits--the microbrews looked great (and sounded like they were, too from my co-diners) but it was just too cold to be drinking beer.
The best thing on the menu? The garlic fries! First time I also had some of the group's onion rings, too ~ and shared buffalo wings with Joy. Next visit was a pretty tasty grilled chicken and pesto sandwich that was more than enough for a hungry hiker. And lots more of the tasty garlic fries! ...and onion rings.
location, location, location (in the city this would be 3 stars) but I love this place and it's perfect 'ground you after the hike' food. Folks who run it are nice, too. AND the bathroom has a kickass heater ; )

I had a late lunch here, which currently still seems to also function as an early dinner. We were done at 4:30pm. I'm sitting here, at 9:45pm, writing this review, still feeling full.
On with the review. Point 1: The Food. I'm looking on the list of burgers. Suzuki, Honda, Harley, Kawasaki, you get the idea. This is a biker joint. One of them lists as ingredients: bacon, sausage, onion, cheese. "Excuse me, is this sausage ON a burger?" "Yes, it is," she says with a big smile. She knows what's coming. "Holy vegetarian! I've gotta know what that's like!!!" Let me tell you, it's pretty damn good. Meat stuffed with meat and wrapped in bacon. Did I mention this is a biker joint?
Oh, yeah, the garlic fries were good too. Who cares? I had sausage in my burger.
Point 2: The Beer. Brewed just down the road. Sweet. I was drinking something that is not even closely related to Bud, so I'm a happy camper.
Point 3: The Atmosphere. This place is in the middle of a forest. There's two roads intersecting that are both fun to drive along. There's a lot of city dwellers pretending to be tough, clad in leather, with big bikes outside. There was a seriously impressive 60's Jaguar parked outside. I'd say we give them full points on atmosphere.
So, if all is good, why not 5 stars? Well, the burger was good, but not Cafe Rouge good. I have to stay fair.
