After a long day at the beach and other sight seeing, we wanted to finish our day at the Tillamook cheese and ice cream factory, but they were closed (despite the hours listed on line.)  So we decided to head home and find a place to eat on our way which is how we stumbled upon Alice's Country House.  My husband and I are fans of these mom and pop kind of places.  They might look a little run down, but they always have good food.  We walked in and the hostess/waitress was super friendly.  Looked like there were some regulars at the bar eating pie and having coffee.  I ordered a BLT with a salad from the salad bar.  The salad bar was a little chinsy, but that could've just been because it was close to when they were about to close up for the night.  The BLT was pretty standard.  My husband got a burger with ham and all the fixings and it was HUGE!  We finished off with what we came to Tillamook for, and that was ice cream in waffle cones.  The food and service was good.  We left satisfied.

Head east young man! Over the dairyland and through the woods to Alice's house we go.

What a great day.  Southeast of downtown Tillamook, you venture through the grassy dairylands, into the mountains.  After a good spring rain, you will see the mountain spirits hiding in the mist.  Its a pretty sight.  We are talking about a particularly gorgeous 9 mile drive heading into tree covered, lush mountains, following a winding lazy river. The mist has that "Brigadoonish" essense.

So. We have arrived at our destination, refreshed and invigorated and ready to eat. Alice's looks like a cute mountain cabin inside. Cozy stone fireplace, old timey character and friendly vibes. Eclectic. Old jars, antlers, and lethal farm implements hanging from the walls and ceiling. Antique furniture and local pictures. Three separate dining areas.  Plenty of room for all.

    The food:

Pepper bacon.  Really good, smokey, thick, meaty, good fat, but not crispy.  Where from you might ask?  From Warrenton, Oregon.  Reed and Hertig. I found it has been Yelped.  Here you go, bacon lovers.

Chicken fried steak. This is a thick cubed steak, floured then grilled so it reminds me of liver and onions (sans onions).  Served with a heavy cream gravy that was ok not great. We've been spoiled by too many breakfast places lately. Stick with the bacon.

Fresh eggs.  Two.  Cooked just so!

The hash browns were freshly shredded, but slightly under done and not crispy. Hence not greasy either. I was disappointed, not over the fact they weren't greasy, but because they just weren't that good. I would try country fries next time.

However, the wheat toast was great tasting and generously pre-buttered. I like that. It came with a cup of good raspberry jam.

IMHO, the brightest star was the bacon.

And by the way, little roadhouses like this feature homemade pies and pastries.  We saw a little case that looked mighty tempting.  While we did not succumb this time around, it is worth a second glance.

Overall a decent breakfast even though I may seem critical.

Went mushroom hunting over the weekend!!! FUN...

Had a late lunch at Alice's (Have been passing by this place for so many times).

Everything was ok but the Clam Chowder, it was sour.  My babe tried it too  and so I put a little salt in it, helped a little! I didn't send it back (I don't know why).

Salad bar was okay (wish they have some eggs & corn).
My babe had Halibut burger, he said it was okay.

Loved it! There are not enough places that really make a community like this one.  This is a diner and everything is good.  Loved the pepper bacon, & homemade raspberry jam.

The inside is a trip down memory lane of the Tillamook, Oregon area complete with old photos, a bear skin, antlers, and lots of antiques.  You feel like you are family when you leave.....provided that you are a nice person to start with, that is.  : )

    Oh, and they cater, too.

    Will stop by again!

"Beavers in the car and Ducks in the trunk" greets you as you walk in the door along with a ton of other Beavers memorabilia. Not the best day for two of us to wear Ducks gear, but college rivalry aside, they still served us with a smile.

This roadside diner on the outskirts of Tillamook has been a family favorite for a couple years. Nothing fancy, but the local vibe and better than average diner fare make it stand out.

When you walk in the door, there is a small cafe with a few bar stools and tables to the right, and more traditional restaurant seating to the left. We always prefer to sit in the cafe and feel like one of the locals, even though our shirts are the wrong color.

Burgers, sandwiches, Tillamook ice cream. Good stuff.

Love their breakfasts! Great hamburgers and onion rings, too! I've never been disappointed in a meal here! And Alice is a real person! Very nice, too! Try this place, you'll like it, too!

You know how you're driving out to the coast and pass those little diners and general stores and wonder what they're like but you always drive past but you think, "i really should try one of these places sometime." Alice's is one of those places and you should give it a try.

Food is fairly typical diner food. Nothing fancy buts lots of burgers and various sandwiches plus deserts. Family run, staff are very friendly and the photos on the wall show that this is a local gathering place. Coffee must have been more than OK because the wife drank it, and she won't unless it's better than OK.

Summary: good road food, good atmosphere. Another bonus: no AT&T coverage, so leave the iPhone in your pocket and talk to people ;-)

As the menu says if you are in a hurry don't eat here, but it didn't take forever and a day to get our food.  It was a good breakfast too!  It was pretty reasonably priced and had a lot of options.  We both had breakfast but on our way out I check out a couple peoples lunch plates and the sandwiches looked awesome!  On our next trip back to the beach we are stopping again.  The waitresses were super nice and friendly.  Good down home cookin too!

Stopped in for an early dinner, mom and daughter team worked the counter. Very friendly atmosphere - mix of locals and tourists and all were socializing. I ordered the Lousiana burger, which is all kinds of unhealthy and maybe a bit much for most folks, but I found it delicious. The fries were perfectly done. Topped off with some Tillamook ice cream and a beer for a great $14 dinner. Excellent motorcycle touring pitstop.
