Review from SHAWNA S.

I've been working on the coast for 6 years and have never been able to find good sushi here. Shocking, right?! Well, I finally found an amazing place...Alice's Sushi Bar at Blue Lake Casino. James is an incredible sushi chef and all of the fish was very fresh...especially loved the sake nigiri (add lemon slice on top). It will melt in your mouth!! I can't wait to come back...tomorrow:)

OK a lot of these reviews are old and the restaurant has changed completely. Its current iteration as a steak house and sushi bar is the best they have come up with since it originally opened. The atmosphere is good and is of a much higher quality than the prices reflect. Prices are another issue themselves. Prices have gotten steeper everywhere and looking on the right side of the menu is a little scary for me but the left side, ah the left side, that's my side. The Tatonka is a buffalo burger with a chili aoli. The clam chowder is excellent and the steak salad is also quite good and both of those are in the $10-13 range. They have won us back. The chef really will prepare your burger the way you would like. No more well done is all we can do. By the way if you still haven't tried buffalo now is the time.

William at Alice's is our favorite Sushi Chef. He always provides service with a smile, and his plating skills are great. My hubby (of Japanese descent) says the Tempura is just like his grandmother used to make. You must try the License to Eel, and the soft shell crab rolls are the largest and tastiest we have had the pleasure of tasting. The wait can be a little long, but that is usually because we visit on a Friday or Saturday evening. Well worth the wait once our food arrives!

Alice's Restaurant in Blue Lake Casino always the best lunch & dinner buffet....truly surprising, well thought out and delicious food, with a excellent selection of dishes, desserts, salads & drinks....it's laid back and comfortable, always smiling waitresses and a great sports bar with reasonably priced drinks right across from it....
This is a good stop when hungry....Check it out...you will be surprised by the quality of the food....it's certainly NOT a boring, bland Hometown Buffet type food. -

I went here for breakfast while staying at the Blue Lake Casino. I enjoyed the Swedish pancakes with house made flavored butter and the breakfast burrito was good. The waffles were a little dry and crumbled but the strawberries and cream they came with made it better. Stick with water or the hot chocolate becuase the coffee is watered down and orange juice comes from a box. Good cheap eats!

This restaurant is absolutely awful. First time ate off the steak and seafood menu. They knowingly send out something that was burned, the chicken in my salad was so dry it was inedible. And it was nothing but almost white iceberg lettuce. Not wanting to just base our opinion off this one visit (maybe it was just a bad night), we decided to try it again. They heavily advertise the sushi so we thought maybe that was the specialty. Oh, were we wrong. The seaweed was tough, like something cheap from the Dollar Store. The shrimp they use isn't real, it's imitation shrimp meat, completely disgusting. All the other fillings they use are on the same sub par level and they hardly give you anything. The rice wasn't even good, not sure how you can screw that up but it tasted like it had been cooked, frozen then pulled out and thrown in a microwave. Even the drink I had, a Sailor Jerry and Diet Coke was gross, the diet coke was watery and tasted terrible. You can tell the waitresses have no experience as well; completely inattentive. We really wanted to like this place, it's very nice when you first walk in. But the ONLY reason this place is in business still is because it's attached to the Casino. You're better off walking over to the Gas Station to get pre-made sandwiches.

Take a look at the date on the only other review on this place, then take that into consideration. Yes, when this place first opened it was terrific. I would have given it four stars. Man, has it made a 180, however. I refuse to return to this awful restaurant, even with the 25% off coupon that they sent to me. It's no wonder that they have remodeled and scaled the place down. Because it bites. They got really tight and raised the prices, but ironically replaced what was great fare with horrid, inedible, fat and calorie overloaded food. Last time I was there, there was not one fresh, unadulterated vegetable. I personally think it is their own fault for being so greedy that this place has gone into the toilet. We used to go when they had the lunch buffet for less than five dollars. And, of course, once we got all the way out there, we dropped plenty of cash into the slots to make up for how cheaply we dined. So, they should have kept the low-price, they'd get more business, and hence, more money into the casino. Oh, and the wait staff are also horrible. There is one waitress in particular who drives me crazy. She acts like I am really putting her out for just doing her freaking job. She's been there for years, (go figure). She is chatty and complaining, judgmental, whiney and bitchy (can I use that word?). She just rounds out the entire, loathsome experience.

The place was clean. That is about the best thing I can say about it. The hostess was pleasant enough, but our waitress was about as friendly as a hungry dog with a wounded leg. But the real reason Alice's gets 2 stars is due to the fact that the food is horrible. Sorry, but there is nothing even average about almost all of the food we had. The pork roast was a variety of different colors, mostly flavorless and riddled with fat. My baked potato was too scary to try. The salad and buffet bar were almost scary enough to make you run screaming. So why 2 stars? We were there fairly late for dinner and there was only on other couple there. Buffets just don't work when there are no customers. Perhaps during their peak times the place could be better. Also, 2 things were good: the bread they gave us was warm and soft and had poppy seeds (tasty) and they actually had some very yummy macadamia nut /white chocolate cooks for dessert.
