I don't want to sound droll, but there won't be much to this review.
You might be a tourist. You might not. No matter who you are - You *will* be completely sick of the overly touristy shops on parts of the island.
You may have a spare day.... you might be on your way to Hana.
Stop here!!!
Browse along Baldwin Ave and have fun! These are a bit more *real* as far as stores go, and you will find some cute stuff for either him her, or in the middle. Clothes, accessories, and everything...the other shops are fine, but I will tell ya... this one has some adorable stuff! Prices aren't too bad... it isn't so much a touristy place as much as a little surfer hamlet. Pop on by, you will dig it.
This is the cutest little store, I went in to purchase their Alice in Hulaland t-shirt. The girls working there were so friendly and cool, they were making me laugh the whole time. The store is a bit pricey, but I was able to find good stuff on sale. If you've got the cash and like chic Hawaiian wear, this is the place to shop. It's even a cool place to browse while you're in Paia town.
Like most of Paia, this shop takes me back a long way to old time hippiedom. I love the fact that kids tee-shirts have nice little hula girls-- but in the really tiny sizes (for kids who can't ask questions) they show water pipes. And they label all that stuff "tobacco products." LOL
Chic boutique meets quaint island village. The owner must have been an L.A. transplant or something, because this place is stylin'. Clever name, too. I got myself an incredibly soft cotton tank with a screenprint of a wave and a skeleton surfer on it for like $35 or something, marked down 40% from it's original price. Yes, pricey for a tank, but I'll shell out the buckaroonies for some unique threads.
They had cute one-off a la' super lucky cat style tube dresses made of recycled old t-shirts, many of which had screen prints of Bob Marley on them. I would have gotten one if I didn't already overspend on my travel budget. I also noticed they had a bunch of stogies and rolling papers behind the cashier table. Hmmmm..wonder what that's for? Ha ha, not for me, but I thought it was pretty cool that this upscale boutique didn't have that "too cool for you" vibe, as evident by their sale of contraband.
Fellow fashionistas and Maui Wowie lovers alike can therefore shop in harmony here!
Cute, cute cute store!
This little boutique has really cute tees at a pretty affordable price - and some other more pricey boutique-y brands.
They have their signature "alice in hulaland" tees in various colors and materials. some are see-through, others partially see-through, and some just your regular 'ol vintage tee.
I got my sis a shirt from here to bring back home as a souvy instead of those darned keychains, mugs, sarongs, etc...
Very cute store. Great selection of hats!
Because they carry both men and women's clothing, my bf and I were able to both look around without worrying about boring the other ;)
We picked up a hat & a "Paia" t-Shirt
Loved this store. I am not a petite girl and I found tons of things I liked. I ended up buying three fabulous shirts and a beautiful pair of blue sea glass earrings. The prices are all ranges, from $12 to $300 for differing pieces. I spent toward the lower end of that range and still got really nice funky stuff.
At first glance I thought this was either a used clothes or cheesy tourist store. It's actually a cool boutique mixed with trendy labels and Hawaii souveniers. DaNang, Orion, Project E, Junk Food tees... I liked the clothes more than the purses and jewelry.
The Alice in Hulaland totes are pretty nifty, maybe I'd get one if Paia, HI wasn't on it. Yes, it looks too touristy. Don't I look like a tourist already?
This boutique has a good selection of all the hot labels from the mainland as well as local designer pieces. The buyers truly know how to incorporate high fashion into an island style vibe. Pretty much, Alice in Hulaland could be the spot to outfit your entire wardrobe with pieces from DaNang, Butterfly Dropout, Michael Stars, etc. The store has a groovy hippie feel but what else would you expect in Paia??
