Brooklyn, NY
I used to work there as a DJ for a while (11/2008-12/2008). And the manager, Dave and Joe, got me gigs outside of the restuarant which was great. The place is amazingly beautiful and the food was great and elegantly made. The owners were nice and guest-freindly.
I didn't like the fact that everytime I djed, I had to run a wire through the bar when people walk, and there was a techinical error with there sound system constantly where one speakers (in the back room would play and the other wouldn't). It was great how there were belly dancers on Fridays and Saturdays and interacted with the crowd.
Overall, nice place and would recommend going there if it wasn't closed. I was really shocked that they closed down. (They did fail health inspections a few times) -

I used to work at Alia....to say that sanitary wise it was gross is an understatement. Oh and the managers never paid me on time and still owe me money. It closed down b/c the only people that ever went were underage broke ass kids who would byob, order the minimum , and NEVER TIP!
"Can I have a glass of free water?" Sure you can.....A$$ holes. -
Review from Olivia P.
Worst experience ever. Went there 1 year ago. We were the only ones there aside from a group of people in the back. Music was so loud that I couldn't talk to my friend. We had to ask them to lower the music on the big video screen. It took about 30 minutes before we can order. Then, when we placed our order everytime we asked for an item on the menu, they said they didn't have it. Finally we picked something they said they had. We waited an hour for our food. During that hour, we saw the owner, who took our order, step out for groceries!
Food was subpar. Never again. -

I'd always been put off by this place's lack of patronage. Every time I walked past, it seemed a bit too empty - especially for a pizza joint in hipster-central Williamsburg. But I should have given it a try sooner. The food was good - great authentic pizza - thin, chewy crust, fresh ingredients, interesting combinations...
The decor is a bit strange - not quite sure what they were going for - italian/middle-eastern... i kind of felt like i was in a casual james bond spoof. The waiter/pizza chef was great - tons of character. -

This place is surprisingly not very busy. I've been here twice, including last Saturday night, and my friends and I were one of the few tables full in the place. They have a wide selection of tobacco flavors, and the standard stuff starts at $15 bucks.
The decor is very nice, with running waterfalls from the ceiling and comfortable rounded couches to chill in. A large projection screen in the back was playing these ridiculous, over-the-top, Bollywood videos which were extremely entertaining, even without the sound. I'm pretty sure there was a music video with a girl welding in overalls and a welding mask. They sure know how to put on a good show over there.
The only problem was that last time the water overflowed into the entire back part of the restaurant, probably a couple inches thick. That made for an awkward 20 minute cleanup.
BYOB with Tops' selection next door is probably the best part of the place. The pizza was being made up front in a brick oven, and it looked amazing.
I'm pretty sure the place is relatively new. We got filmed for http://citysearch.com, so it seems like they're trying to spread the word. Good place to bring underage, law-abiding-non-fake-id-carrying friends for a chill time. -

Not bad, not bad at all. Came here just to chill. We got a small booth and puffed on apricot flavored tobacco. Me and my girl ordered some chicken which was finger licking good. Tasted even better mixed with the flavor of the hookah. So we were smoking and eating at the same time. Luckily we had our own spout thing.
They had drinks there but it was BYOB. First time I ever went to a bar/lounge that was bring your own bottle. We set out to find a place to buy alcohol to bring in but couldn't find any. Sucked! So come prepared if that is an every night thing cuz you wont find anything around open if you want to get a bottle to take inside with you.
This place was pretty cool I'd go again but with a crowd of friends. Didn't look like some where to go to mingle. -

New York, NY
Kitschy, Arabic Nouveau is what I might describe the decor here. There are coins lacquered into the tables, some sexy tented cushions for couples to canoodle in. There is a big screen at the back of lounge/bar/restaurant area playing what might be the Middle-Eastern version of Bollywood videos.
The BYOB policy is helpful, as I had just come from a wine store. The menu has a mix of pizzas, Middle Eastern dishes and nibbles. My first impression was not good, when almost EVERYTHING we ordered, the inexperienced waittress said they didn't have (out of hummus?). However, it was Monday after Thanksgiving weekend, and while many other restaurants weren't even open, this one was, so their re-orders may have been delayed.
However, everything that did arrive, the Quattro pizze, had a bubbly crispy crust, the Kufte, was very flavorful, with fragrant fresh mint, the pita bread with baba ghanoush was quite tasty.
I liked this place enough to come back and hopefully try what I missed out on this time. -

Lounging on tapestried cushions and fluffy pillows under the painted gold stars - feeding on succulent lamb kabobs and other things I have no hope of spelling or pronouncing correctly - all while gazing lazily at a horny bare chested Syrian Fabio who mysteriously rides through the streets on a red-leatherette bed with a troupe of slutty couldabeen Solid Gold dancers. Perhaps if Whitney Houston had made a video like this, she wouldn't have turned to crack.
It's not expensive. We each had appetizers, mains, and dessert for $20 each including a generous tip. I

I'm new to the hookah scene, but this place was cool! BYOB and a "wide variety" of flavors. "Wide variety" meaning there were quite a few listed on the menu, however, they were out of more than half of them.
I went with a good-sized group, but I think this place would be ideal for a date, their sexy booths were quite inviting. I'm not sure why, but about 20 minutes after we got there, they started BLASTING the music, so loud you really could only talk to the person next to you, but hopefully it's not like that all of the time.
This place really has a lot to offer - hookahs, great food, fun music, sexy belly dancers, great atmosphere - sounds like a good night to me!Listed in: My Neighborhood

This place soooo deserves to be more on the map. I feel like not many people know about it's great mediterranean food, it's unbelievably prices, and the decor is GREAT.
I think this is a great date spot, as well. They have booths covered in cushions, with lots of room to spread out, and it's also covered in a sheer curtain, so you can, you know, give a little smooch once in a while. The pizzas are great, the combo appetizer with hummus and grape leaves is really healthy and tasty, and the Italian chef, I forget his name, is so passionate about what he does! As we were waiting for our seats, we struck up conversation and you could tell he was straight from Italy, probably arrived that same day or something. He was so excited that we were asking him questions about his cuisine, that he made us, literally, MADE us try the proscuitto. Now, I'm not a fan of it, but his was really good.
Give Alia a try. The time that I went, it had BYOB. SO GOOD. -

So pretty inside! And the food was really good. The wings are a little too oily but the pizza is thin crust heaven! They have really cute bed like areas where u can eat or smoke a hookah. They have a great vent system, cuz it doesn't smell like a mixture of hookah smells like other places.
Will def go back, perfect for large group, and not too pricey either. Plus they seat til around midnight!
This place is perfection!Listed in: Williamsburg, Brave the…

I was never sure if this place would ever open. I would walk by it on the way to Tops market quite often and it never seemed to have any activity at all. When I finally saw that it was open I had to try it. The menu was full of cheap veggie friendly dishes, so one or two days latter I had found my new favorite place in the neighborhood.
I always leave stuffed from over ordering the salads, plus i have to have a falafel, which truth be told is not the best in the neighborhood, but still quite decent. The hummus could also use a bit more garlic, but serves its purpose quite nicely. The stand out dishes are really the salads, the fatosh, cous cous and tabouleh are so fresh tasting with an extra kick from a nice dose of lemon juice and spices. The flat bread from the wood oven is amazing as well.
I have been there at least 10 times since it opened, and am always shocked that it is not stuffed to the gills with people. The atmosphere is heavy on a nouveau riche haram feel, and frankly i really could do without most of it, but it serves its purpose.
But if you are in the area, you can hardly go wrong with the cheapness and fresh great food.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

The food was amazing, don't get me wrong. I had the spinach which I HIGHLY recommend and my friend got the lentils with rice, which was also pretty darn good, however, the service was AWFUL!
First, we waited at least 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged and it took 30 minutes longer for someone to take our order. We were the only people in the restaurant so we became assertive and finally were able to get the cavernous clay oven started. We ordered an appetizer that never showed up and there seemed to be a lack of communication between the staff.
An overall really strange experience. -

This exquisitely designed Middle Eastern restaurant just opened up on N6th, so I stopped at lunchtime to try the only local alternative to Oasis for a falafel sandwich. The interior is overdone but beautiful, and the food turned out to be great, too.
It's got a pretty standard Middle Eastern menu: all the standard sandwiches at $3-$5 each, bunch of salads, various kebabs and some extras on the entree list, and a whole selection of pizzas (I'm not sure if these are all zaater-style or what).
I can't YET speak for the quality of anything on the menu besides the very tasty falafel, but I'll be back soon for more.
It's all extremely reasonably priced, and BYO, which is great. The downsides are that the website kind of sucks and they haven't yet published their hours. -

I was so excited for this place! The interior of Alia is beautiful and very interesting, however, the experience was not. When we walked in, my boyfriend and I were seated in the front area with neon lighting (more casual) while others were seated in the cooler, classier back section. Then they continued to seat new people in the back as we sat alone near the open windows. We started to feel like we weren't "chosen" to sit in the back, so we asked and our waitres (after a while) said we could move.
The service was awful. Granted, our waitress had only worked there for 2 days, so we actually didn't hold it against her that she never checked on us. However, she didn't even know anything that the restaurant served. I ordered Lamb schwarma and got chicken and no one seemed bothered by that mistake- but me. I agreed to eat the chicken, but both of our sandwiches were LAME and hardly had anything in them.
I think this place had a LOT to live up to compared to Zaytoons on Smith St. So at least there is still SOME great Middle Eastern cuisine in this borough! -

I was not sure I'd ever get to try the food at this place, but I'm so glad I finally did.
The food was excellent!! The lamb dish I had was perfectly cooked, and very tender. The salmon my husband had was excellent and very flavorful. With the flavors, quality and portions this restaurant offers, you would expect to pay a lot more. This place is absolutely worth a visit.
I'm looking forward to trying out more dishes from their menu. -

I love to see this place survive. Because The Food was good.
I had been to this place for 3 times. Each visits takes about 2 and a half hour. This is WITHOUT the starters.
I wanted to give this place a chance that's why I went back for the third time before i write this review.
Each of my visit were all on Sunday night. at 8:30pm. The waitress were all different each time.
All of the visits, there were 2-3 tables( they were NOT at all busy)
My orders were Kufta Kabob (Grilled Beef with Rice)
My friends had the same thing.
15 mins passed the waitress came to the table asked if we want to drink anything.
another 10 mins passed by, she finally took our order and brought us water. Which one she spilled the whole glass.
No big deal. People make mistake.
But when you make mistake. common sense to correct it right?
Nope, not here.
Took her another 20 mins (yes, Yelpers. I time it,not because i'm being petty, but because I want to test my theory)
I reminded her that I need some napkins to wipe the water from the table. She disappeared in to the front. never return until it was almost about almost an hour later with the food.(trust me I did not exaggerated)
The Food was a bit cold. Alright I shrug it off because i was starving.
The flavor was good, it's kind of worth the wait. Which is why this place got some stars.
Took us all about 20 minutes to eat. Yeah I admit,we dogged it. Because it took so long we were all starving.
She came back to the table. asking how everything was. Our respond was "fine".
We love this place because of the Decor and the food and the options and the Coziness of it.
We love to see this place to be successful. but I must agree with other reviewers here that they need staffs training bootcamp.
It's unfortunated.
They've already got the food and decor right.
They need to step up and amp up with the staffers.
I hope they stay in business, because looking at the way this place going. They're not going to be around much longer if they don't keep the service up to par.
I'll update again if anything change.
;)
I hope this is some what helpful. -

I've never eaten here but the hookah here is amazing! I'm a big hookah fan and ever since I moved to Williamsburg, I've been trying to find a hookah bar. This is one of the best in the neighborhood. $15 for a hookah, the price is very reasonable and you can BYOB. The couches and booths are very comfy and the guys who work there are very friendly too. Good place to hang out and chill on a slow weekend night!

The space is ok, the hookah smell can be either good or bad depending on what folks are smoking around you. The food is ok, nothing great, but not bad. The service is among the slowest I have ever found in NYC. I've been late to shows as a result of them poking around, so I don't go there anymore.

I stumbled upon this gem on a Wednesday meet up with some girlfriends. Alia , a Mediterranean style eatery , is tucked in the midst of the saturated dinning area that is N.6th and Bedford . This place has wide selection making choices ample. Cheap eats like the DAM delicious wood burning pizzas are an excellent way to CaRb Outta control. Pocket friendly this place will please even the most frugal Hobo. With a BYOB policy and $4.oo appetizers this is a place to bring the classy and tawdry.

for a night that feels a little bit removed from brooklyn, i highly recommend alia. a belly dancer, hookah, and delicious food paired with classy decor create quite the atmosphere. byob always makes me love a place too. even when there was a mistake and we got the wrong flavor hookah, the owner (?) took care of us, switched it, and was very accommodating. i was absolutely captivated by the belly dancer, just like everybody else in the place!

while alia is a cute place, it also was the worst dining experience i have ever had in nyc- namely because i did not receive my food after waiting for over an hour and a half. they were out of eggplant, so the babaghanouj was out of the question. the humus we ordered instead was good and homemade, but the pita bread was blah. i then ordered the avocado salad, with dressing on the side (my mom and dad ordered chicken and lamb kabobs)...when the orders came out the waitress (poor thing- empty place and a mean cook to deal with) noticed my salad was drenched in oil and vinegar and took it back immediately. it was awkward for everyone when the chef started yelling (we could hear everything, as we were seating in the front...) then we heard chopping sounds (this is about 45 minutes after ordering the food- my parents were done eating their very plain kabobs...)... 20 minutes goes by, and the waitress comes out- "sorry, we are out of avocado." um, ok. we just asked for the check and left. it was a real let down- even the byob policy and decor won't get me back in there...i know understand why it was totally empty...
