Review from Mimi C.
I have so many good memories at Alhambra Park!!
It used to be where my school would take their students to as a reward
for doing well in classes. :) We'd have a little picnic and students were free
to play (skating, biking, etc). :) So nice. ^_^ There are plenty of tables (reservable) for bbqs and parties!
It was also where I joined the swim team for a short stint (they have a large public pool). I remember having to lap it... since it was not Olympic sized.
It was also a place for cute dates...when I wasn't allowed to date.. :P ;) (hahah rebel rebel!!!) would go swinging on the playground and play tennis. Sometimes, there would be shows, fairs, and haunted mansions (for halloween) ... just lots to check out. When we dated, hubby took me on a picnic.. packed a basket, sammies, drinks, and blanket. :) They used to allow fireworks here but I don't think it's allowable anymore.
** this park is not "cursed"... hahah ... refer to my almansor park review... ;) **

They recently added a little memorial section with a small water fountain.
.. very fun place to go rollerblading!! Many rolling hills (but nothing difficult). :) -

Beautiful park. You have to reserve this park in person at the Alhambra Parks and Rec department. You pay a certain amount for the picnic location and a deposit that will be refunded if you clean up after yourself. A park employee should meet you at the park, the signs SHOULD be posted that your area is reserved.
We reserved this park for my cousin's baby shower. She arrived there in person at around 9:30 and park officials were to release the location to us at 10am. One of her friends who came had to sweep because of leftover confetti and trash along the ground. Our signs were not covered with RESERVED signs and no one who worked for Alhambra ever came to our picnic area, who did come to our spot? Some people who wanted to use to bbq grill designated for our area. We had to explain that we reserved it and they even pointed out the lack of signage. Luckily, they didn't push the issue.
I called when I received the cleaning deposit because I was a little confused. Since no one met us there, and the spot was not reserved, money was paid for services not rendered it seems? A simple POLITE declination of my question would have been good, an explanation on why the city believed services were in fact rendered, some proof that our party wasn't at the site when an employee arrived (they had all our contact phone numbers) would have been great! But that is customer service. That requires some level of giving a shit. Instead I did get a very smug 8am phone call "Your request has been denied."
THE PARK ITSELF IS BEAUTIFUL. But I probably wont ever deal with Alhambra parks and rec again. Glendale parks and rec on the other hand were AMAZING. Please see my review for them! -

I love this park & it is the closest to home. I feel so safe here, even walking around at 10pm.
It's not huge, but a good size. There's lots to do: bbq in the covered areas, kids playground area, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts & relax in the grassy shade.
On the weekends, it can get crowded with people picnicing and doing their cardio around the park.
I'd recommend it for a nice afternoon in the shade. :)Listed in: Local | Alhambra, Neighborhood Parks

I grew up coming to this park and it's really close by to where I live, so it's always a plus coming here. Walking distance, and it's pretty big to go running or walking at. There's 5 tennis courts, 2 half basketball courts, 2 pull up bars, a swimming pool, kids play area, with plenty of bbq pits for parties.

I enjoy this park with plenty of shade to hide from the blazing sun.
It's big but not Griffith park big though with it's set up it does give you that expansive feel.
Grab food from the plaza with Chiptole/Flame Broiler/Fresh n Easy or cheap bite to eat from Costco's food court than post yourself up here. Remember to throw away your trash this place is actually well maintained, let's keep it that way.
In the early hours you will see elderly Chinese people doing tai chi on the grassy knolls and a variety of people running/jogging/walking along the path and sidewalk that goes around the park.
It's definitely a quiet escape where I find myself after some retail therapy at Target. -

This is a great park.
This park is a true representation of Southern California and the integration of people in neighborhoods. You can witness a variety of people enjoying the park for exercise, parties, get-togethers, study groups, romantic moments, family fun times and most importantly BBQ. It is large enough to support lots of events simultaneously with different tree covered picnic areas, rolling landscapes to create levels of privacy, basketball courts, tennis courts (lighted), an auditorium area, and a pool.
If you live in the area and want a safe place to walk in the evening that is closer then heading over to the Rose Bowl (maybe even safer), go to Alhambra Park. You will find lots of neighborhood people walking around the extended park block. One walk around the block will yield you right around half a mile (if my measurements were accurate).
So, get off the computer and spend some time in a block of nature. You'll sleep better and wake up with a bigger smile. -

Walking distance from mi casa. It's not as big as Almansor, but still a very cozy and charming city park. Best part are the tennis courts. Well lit at night and fairly kept. Worst part are the basketball courts. You usually get a full or half, but this is like two quarter courts. It's an abomination...but better than nothing. Good to just shoot around, but that's about it. Also a good place to jog. Lots of grassy areas for picnics and naps.

I grew up in Alhambra and this park is walking distance from my parent's house. I love the swings and the auditorium area. It's always a fun place to chill on a day off.
The parking is usually easy.
Be aware that it gets really crowded after 6pm and Saturdays. -

I hate the pool and the manager and every staff because they don't let u wear goggles during free swim. When I swam in lap swim the staff tested me if i can swim because they don't believe in me. Most of all I'd like to ask y do they let them where goggles at lap swim not free swim its not like we can loose our goggles and stuff i mean we're not babies, even Karen agrees that chorines is bad for your eyes. :(

I believe the pool is over reacting about rough housing. They should believe in us that we can take responsibility of our own life. The pool is kind of small and the staffs our just annoying little chickens who keeps on telling u what to do every single second u swim O my gosh i am about to go nuts!!!!!! ~(-_-)~1 Previous Review: Show all »

The park has some cool shades when you need it from the blaring sun. I have to check out the parks swimming pool one of these days.
This place is cool to hang out and or walk it in a loop and play with your kids. There are swings and a play area that fits that purpose. You can also play tennis in a couple courts they have. -

It's amazing how much time I spent at this park growing up.
My earliest memory of visiting this park was for my little brother's 6th birthday party (which would make me 7 about to turn 8). He was blessed with a birthday at the end of the summer so he got to have a pool party at the public pool here. Lucky. My birthday is at the beginning of fall. Anyway, the pool was great. During the summer they used to have this free lunch program for kids under 18, so we'd get some lunch "wait 20 minutes" and then pay a buck to jump in the public pool with neighbors and friends. My mom also enrolled us in swimming lessons here but I didn't "graduate" because I was too chicken to jump off the diving board. To this day, I've never jumped off one.
I also remember trips to the playground. I remember thinking it was the greatest playground ever because it had the see-saw AND the tire. Good times. It was at this same playground that my little 2nd grade brother told my ex 4th grade "boyfriend" to stop bugging me. The kid thought my brother was the funniest thing. But he left me alone. We're still friends to this day and he remembers. Oh crazy little brother still acts like he's the big brother.
Alhambra Park used to host "Summer Nights". They have a bandshell where during the summer they used to have summer concerts and people took their blankets and beach chairs, bought tacos from the Bun N Burger stand, ate churros and listened to everything from big band to jazz to classic rock to mariachi (always the most popular). It got so popular that they made it a weekly street fair and called it Summer Jubilee. My parents used to take us there and we'd meet up with friends and play at the playground or savor our chocolate dipped frozen bananas.
My elementary/middle school was/is right across the street from this park so we had quite a few celebrations there. In middle school, those of us kids that had a C-average or better got to go to the end-of-the-quarter picnic at Alhambra Park. The teachers grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, there were chips and sodas, and we were told to bring footballs, volleyballs, soccer balls and radios. For P.E. we would go over to the tennis courts too.
In high school, on early days, my friends and I would walk all the way from Alhambra High School to just sit and chat under one of the countless huge trees that fill the park.
This park also holds a special place in my heart because my high school boyfriend and I would walk here from my house around the corner to talk. One time we walked here in the pouring rain and just ran along the pathways getting soaked to the bone. It's also where he made a last ditch attempt to save our puppy love with a cute little pizza picnic.
I drove by here today and was totally overcome by memories. Good, sweet memories when things were simple and there wasn't a problem that couldn't be solved by a trip to the park. Maybe I need to start visiting the park more often. =) -

Great open feel to the park. Great place to have a picnic as there are many stone bungalows and bbq pits. Not too crowded, even on the weekends.
Not a good place for sports, but good to hang out on the grass or take a stroll. -

**This review is for Tennis Courts Only**
Usually all courts are occupied at night by people ages 24 and up, rarely do you see high schoolers here, because they would be at Almansor Park. Most people here are about 2.0 to 3.0 players and some starting to play, court light on till park norms 10:10pm. Try to get the court at the back by itself so other courts' balls wont get into your and interrupt play. -

What's not to love about this park?
Children's area is clean .
Basketball courts are ok.
Tennis courts could use some touch ups and these can fill up quite quickly especially on weekend mornings.
Nice running/walking perimeter around the park.
Pull up bars are available. -

The swimming pool is adequately equipped. Changing rooms are exposed to the outdoors. The Granada Park swimming pool, south on Atlantic, is a better choice.

Really nice park except that the city of Alhambra seems to have an unnatural aversion to dogs. That's why I give -1 star. We brought our dog anyway and saw a few others while we were here but the amount of signs that say "No Dogs" is just strange. I'm glad that back its not like that back in Tustin.

I've been coming to this park for the past 13 years. It has given me many wonderful memories. I met my husband here when i was sixteen and now we bring our children here quite often. it is well kept. the grass is always green the trash cans are usually emptied after the weekend. the pool is also in pretty good shape and during the summer they offer a free lunch program for kids 18 and under. The playground is also nice except for the tire swing area that is missing the tire. but other than that my kids really enjoy the playground. The only complaint I have is that the bathrooms are absolutely horrific! The restrooms located near the pool is not that bad but the ones located at the basketball court are just plain gross. in order to flush the toilet you have to press a button located on the wall behind the toilet which is damn near impossible. and if you do flush it water starts spewing out from it. most people don't flush however and things are left floating all over the place. Nasty. there are also no trash cans so you can imagine the mess that's there when a woman is having her monthly visit. To top it off there is never any soap available, which i guess doesn't really matter since the sinks don't work either. I love this park so much for all it's other splendors and i still highly recommend coming here i just suggest you bring toilet paper and hand sanitizer with you. I wish the city would get crackin and fix up that bathroom.

everywhere i go, i must have a park. easy 10min walk and i come across this huge spacious park. plenty of grassy area and shade to sit and enjoy the beautiful weather. never feel like anyone is in my space! i've never seen any tennis court available so i wonder how early people arrive to claim it. the swimming pool & water sprinkler thing are always noticeable from plenty of children giggling and screaming. once you're on alhambra & raymond, the pine (???) trees have such a strong minty/foresty smell that i have to sprint across to avoid. i love how dogs and their owners scamper all over the park and the numerous signs that read "no dogs allowed." if i couldn't walk here, i'd love the easy street parking w/ no restrictions on raymond. even w/ tons of people here, there's always tons of space

I really like this park. It's pretty well-maintained for a public spot. They playground is average- if only the tire swing came back. The pool here is pretty clean, and has 2 diving boards and a kiddie playground. I like how organized the playground is, kind of like a storybook. Definitely a good place to play frisbee/soccer/some sport in the grass. It's also a great place to go for picnics. The basketball courts here are hardly available. There are only 2, and the only way to get them is to be supremely lucky, share a court, or wait forever. There are more tennis courts, however.
