FORE!!!
Arms straight, Knees bent, look at the ball, swing back, and....
WHAP! ::looks up, then down::
Hmm, either I hit the ball so well that it flew like a boomerang and landed right back on the makeshift tee, or I completely missed the ball. It's probably most likely that I missed the ball.
Well, what do you expect for a first timer holding a golf club for the first time?
I gave my golf v!rginity to the Alhambra Driving Range. And I had fun. And it looks like I'm down to give it another go. Sure my arms are tired, and I had trouble holding up a drink last night, but the pain is worth it, as I entered the world of Golf and learn how fun it can be.
The facilities are great, at least it seems so to me. I love that they have clubs there for you to use, just inc ase you're a beginner like me. And they're free to borrow! Balls were $9 for 105, and they take exact change or credit card. If you don't know how to play, bring a friend who's willing to help you out. There were a few of us, and two of us who were first-timers. Still had a blast trying to hit the balls. I did manage a 150 yarder a couple of times. YAY ME!
The guy in charge was really nice. Really friendly when we explained that we were newbies, and picked out clubs for us that would be easy to use, and congratulated us on coming out for the first time.
Everything went really well, had a great time, got some good hits, and enjoyed my time with friends. As good as it gets for the first time. Look forward to coming back someday when I'm ready to challenge the 18 holes.
This is my first time at the driving range and it was a pretty fun experience! a bucket of golf balls is $7 and you bring your own golf clubs. I wish they give you more room because if my friend used his driver it would of hit the wall! I noticed many dents in that concrete wall!! how sad! Although i suck and still don't know what i'm doing, its really fun! just make sure you stretchhhhh! i didn't know golf was so damn tiring!!!!!!!

I played here the other day and really enjoyed the course. It's definitely walkable and difficult to lose your ball. With that said, the blues play a slope 113 so that tells you how "easy" it is. You just have to stay on or near the fairway. Lots of short par 4's so if you're long, it could be eagle time. Course is in good shape and greens are medium speed with little break. If you're a high handicapper, this is the course to play to work on your short game and get your confidence going.

Just got back from the Driving Range :)
This place is A-OK...personally I like the single level range where it's more open rather then mutiple levels. This range felt a little constraint with concrete ceiling and gated fence. Other then that, it's local, like the hours of operation, the place is clean, price of the balls are decent and have to say the staff was cool...helpful.

Pluses -
* great tri-level driving range and lit at night
* professional instruction available
* short length (but challenging) par 70 course
* some undulation and doglegs makes this course fun to play
Cons -
* course and driving range can get crowded on the weekend
since my husband said it was okay for me to quit my job, this has been our new hang out.
We all golf, my 6 year old son has his own set too. He likes it better than baseball
**Wednesdays @ 12pm they have "Lunch with a PRO"
you buy a bucket and a Pro will give you tips, a sandwich, a drink, and chips**
The driving range is fun, but playing the course is better ;o)

Now this would probably sound trivial to a non-golfer, but when I used the driving range the other day, all of the balls and mats seemed virtually new. What a nice change! Did I just get lucky somehow?? Most public ranges I have been to in Los Angeles just keep using balls until they are totally worn out and eventually split in half. $6.00 for a medium bucket and what seemed to me to be the worlds most confusing ball dispensing machine, and no I wasn't drinking. That came later..lol. The attendent agreed, but I am sure it's a lot easier the second time. Three tiers means two levels of shade, which is nice.
There is a nice bar/restaurant with some domestic pints for $2.00!!! Just what the doctor ordered after working up a sweat trying to hammer balls out of the driving range...

Last summer, I had a brief love affair with the driving range. Something about soft lambskin gloves, cold hard shafts, whacking balls, and warm midsummer nights just titilates me. Don't ask me why.
Although the balls are a bit on the pricier side, especially compared to Pacific Palms, the facilities at Alhambra Golf are pretty nice. I like that there are several levels, which provides fundamental shading when the sun is still up. They also have friendly staff who don't laugh when I completely miss the ball, and stay open until midnight during the summers. Good times.

1. The one great thing this place has going for it is its late hours. You can purchase a bucket as late as 11:30pm. As a competitive golfer, I'm thinking about my swing 24/7. So if I want to work on something, this is the place to go to.
2. It can get crowded from 8pm to 11:00pm. You might have to wait up to an hour for a spot to open. And there's plenty of tools that take a spot, don't hit balls because they're smoking, talking too much or just taking their time. But I'm an impatient person.
3. It can get a little ghetto there, and I mean ghetto of all races. So it's not people who have the knowledge of etiquette for golf. Like ghetto people have any manners anyways. So you're warned about loud, stupid, uneducated people.
4. Lot of cute girls frequent this place, some of them have an interest in golf. But as most golfers know in Southern California, where there is golf, there are plenty of Asians. Which is all good, because they're all pretty good golfers.

Very slow day today, as frost delay made a buildup, slow players a hole up, and had to start on the 10th tee. Greens were pretty bumpy. Pretty straight forward course for the most part, with a couple doglegs and valleys here and there. Good course for the price of it and golf with friends always makes for a fun day. Marshall was lazy, just sitting on a bench on the 10th tee and never seen him again.

Well I'm certainly no golf expert. I went here recently for my first ever golf outing. It was kinda fun. I don't think it's a very difficult course since the drives are straight except for the 18th hole which takes a jog. After you're done with one hole, you don't have to go very far to get to the tee for the next hole. The guys in the golf shop are very helpful and friendly. The golf clubs I rented were in good shape. So were the golf carts. Props to the lady in the drink cart who happen to be very timely in making sure we didn't get too thirsty out there. Not bad for a public course.

This is a good, decent golf course for the price. It's an 18 hole regulation course with water as well as bunkers.
Twilight can be a decent bargain or just terrible depending upon how crowded the course is.
The real goodness of this course is in the practice facilities. +1 star right there for the scrubby golfer than I am. They have 2 putting greens, a bunker, and a pitching hole. They also have a three-story driving range that stays open late on Weekdays and Weekends. (I think they close at midnight on weekends!)
Someone famous once said that golf is a silly game played with instruments ill-suited for the purpose.
After hitting balls every which way but straight at the Alhambra Practice Center, I tend to agree.
The driving range is a convenient place to practice though. It's a little run down, but it's open until midnight during the summer. Balls are pretty cheap too. At night, $3 will get you 30 balls, $6 will get you 75 and $9 will get you 105.
There are some negatives about this range. It's fairly narrow, so the lanes on either end of the range feel a bit claustrophobic. Also, none of the astro turf mats seem to have any tees.
On the plus side, there is plenty of parking. And since the range is three-tiered, you can get some nice shade on the lower levels.
Overall, it's a fun place to check out.
alhambra golf course is my default course to play a round of golf with the homies and then partake in good chinese or taiwanese eats in the area before heading back to the westside.
why do i like it? well:
1. the fairways and greens are well up kept for a public course
2. playing a full 18 holes takes @5hrs to complete........this means i have 5hrs to drink beer, talk shit and hack away
3. it's located in close proximity to fantastic chinese, taiwanese and vietnamese eats
4. i can bring my own cooler packed with beer
yep, #4 is the most important. =) we always inevitably run out of beer before the turn, however, the beers at the bar are always ice cold and do not cost an arm and a leg. and before i forget, the kind lady putting around the course in the concession cart is always full of smiles and definitely saves the day when we are playing the back 9!
the course itself is not a hard course; flat and wide fairways lined with trees. as long as you can hit the ball straight, you are a-ok. however, the course does have a few holes where the difficulty is ratcheted upwards with water hazards.
give them a whirl and you may be hooked!

Decided after eating some occ, I would burn if off at this range. I am a little rusty. But the swing came back. $6.00 for the medium balls. You can use the credit card now for the vending machines. The range is not busy if you go during the weekday. I like how it has the yardage of the balls hit base on the colors. That was not there before. Parking here is always tight.

Nice multi-level driving range. My only beef is that they don't allow you to use your driver or woods on the top deck... don't worry, I dont think I'll be able to hit it over the fence anytime soon!

Was down in Socal for Christmas. A great place to get in a quick round.
A nice little starter's course for the beginners. The course layout is relatively flat and distance is short. Next to the golf couse, there is a 3 deck driving range for warm ups/practices.
Green fees and riding is resonable.
A fun place to go to when you and a couple friends are bored (the driving range).. hit a few balls, none of us knows how to golf, but its always a fun time. They don't close till 9:30 I think, but I'm not positive.. 105 balls for $9.00. You can loan clubs and a rubber tee with a deposit. Theres a putting-green area to the side. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because they lost my friends ID card! I would give it 1, but it wasn't me who lost my ID and I have fun everytime I go there! Except for the last time, when my friend lost his ID..
